    Fished Neah Bay and Cape Flattery hard in the 80s. Was good back then. Was so good, I climbed in and spear fished that area a bunch. Sekiu was excellent as well.

      Spear fishing looks fun but expensive. I bet the fishing was a lot better with less restrictions back then.

      Thank-you. I just wish I had kept it to try. Jerry says they're good and I've heard the same from others. I'm not sure if the descending device stuck me or the fish.

    Cool to see your boat in action 👍🏻 It holds alot of gear. Does it feel cramped or just right? The flutter jig works well. Aww, you lost the jig but you found sunglasses 🤣 Love the blue color of the lingcod. The rock cod are nice too. Enjoy the spot all to yourself when you can.

    The China rockfish and vermillions are pretty darn good too, I think they're better than the black rockfish. How come you didn't keep any of those? It might be the last year we will get to keep vermillions, they'll be illegal to retain after may 1st through summer

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  7 місяців тому

      I wasn't positive on the ID for the vermillion and since they are so close looking to the yellow eye I didn't want to risk it. You're right, the chinas are good eating. I regret not keeping one. But with the limits you have to make tough choices out there sometimes.

    Nice bunch of fish, that green lingcod will be some nice green fillets. that first two were yellow tail and the others looked like widow. I was told the yellow tail are some of the best eating rockfish there is. Those black rockfish are good too, never had cabezon never caught one ether. Did you put your front plastic up running out there to the fishing spots
    I see it was raining on you? great video Brett 🎣

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  7 місяців тому +1

      The widow actually cut really nice. I can't wait to try it. It looks like some good fillets. I can confirm that yellow tail are great. The black rockfish especially the bigger ones can have worms (since they're so old) and that can be off putting. I did have the plastic up and the roof because my spot lock is running off a 24V lithium Ion battery and it was expensive. I had a lithium battery on my kayak and it shorted with salt water and that was it for the battery. Lead acids are much more forgiving when it comes to salt shorts.

    They were giving away descending devices (the fancy one you held up to the camera) just outside of the marina in Neah Bay at the beginning of May. I use mine with a rod and weight. No need for a downrigger as far as I'm concerned.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  6 місяців тому

      That's what others have said. I have only seen those used on down riggers but makes sense you could use it on a rod. I guess some find it easier to pull a lever and you can continue fishing without having to worry about releasing the fish.

    • @JeremyVeleber
      @JeremyVeleber 6 місяців тому +1

      @@PeelingLine Yeah, I have done both. It all depends if I bring my down riggers or not.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  5 місяців тому +1

      I will in the next one. I went out to swiftsure. I was only one of 3 to make it out there. We had 8-10 foot swells and 2 foot wind waves. I think I got some of the return footage. I couldn't fish out there it was so rough. This boat can handle the shit most people turn back from.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  5 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately, I lost a lot of the footage somehow. I've been having lots of problems with the gopros. I will likely get some other content soon. I don't have the best luck with the weather. Even when they say it will be okay it goes to crap.

    • @SweetGreenDream

      @@PeelingLine Do you find yourself missing a windshield wiper? How does the boat handle if it takes waves over the bow?

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  5 місяців тому

      @@SweetGreenDream No, I usually look over the windshield. I will duck down if I slam into a wave and water comes over the top. The boat is like a cork though it pops right up. I am learning the boat better and that happens less and less. You have to ease up on the throttle so you aren't plowing into the next wave. But you can also time the waves if they are close together and just bounce over the dips. This is especially good if you have 2' or less waves because you gun it and you are skipping right on the top of the waves. But I have done it on 4' ferry wakes and it works too.

    What is the size of your boat? Always wondering if a 15' Stabicraft can handle Neah Bay or offshore a bit.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  7 місяців тому +1

      It's the 15.5 fisher. That's where this took place. The boat can easily handle it but the real question is can you? I wouldn't head off shore to start maybe start out at sekiu to build up experience. The water can get rough and change in a minute. Also the low gunnel of the stabicraft means you can more easily go overboard so maybe take a friend. Definitely pick your days.
