  • You are not allowed to target sevengill sharks in Puget Sound. Unfortunately, it is hard not to catch them when you are trying to catch soupfin sharks. They can be a pain and I show you why in this video. They are a really cool species of shark.

    New species for your references: there are many different type of Arctic freshwater fishing in northern Alaska, we had tried to fish Arctic Grayling, Arctic Char, etc. and as well as arctic cod in the salt water...

    Sharks are some of the coolest fish in the ocean. The way that Rascal ties itself in the line, it's almost as bad as catching an eel, Haha. Seeing that Orca was totally awesome.

      The orcas were much better in person. They swam in with the tide and there were 7 of them. The video is when they were swimming out with the tide.
      I agree with them being the cool fish. They can be a pain though and you have to retie after they do this.

      Right! The water is shallow and you can catch them in the day time. There are quite a few species of shark in our waters. I hope to do some night fishing for them. @PeelingLine  Рік тому

      @@lesstalkmorefishing1000 The basking shark is a filter feeder and feeds on plankton. It would be tough to catch but people have done it salmon fishing. 3 on the list (sixgill, sevengill and thresher) you can't target. But if you are fishing for sharks, skates or halibut you may get them as by catch. So potentially yes but I haven't found any on people catching most of those around here.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +1

      It would be tough to get underwater footage of them. Even when the water is really clear they don't get close enough to film. You're not allowed to pursue them either. Although there is a bunch of charters where they do just that.

    • @PeelingLine

      Thanks. No the soupfin sharks are hound sharks and the sevengill sharks are cow sharks. There are thresher sharks here but you aren't allowed to fish for them. The third species you can't fish for is the sixgill shark which is also a cow shark but you can't even take those out of the water.

    Pretty cool but I’ve heard holding a fish by the tail to lift out of the water can mess them up as it can separate their vertebrae. It was a big no no when I sold salmon to lift the fish by the tail and did cause spinal bleeding into the meat. Sharks may be tougher than salmon of course and I know they are challenging to hold as they are so squirmy with a biting mouth.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  22 дні тому

      Thank-you. They definitely are tougher than salmon. They also have cartilaginous spines which are more flexible. I think if we were damaging their vertebrae we would see it when they were swimming away and a bunch would be washing ashore from internal bleeding.

      Yes there aren't seasons for sharks. Just need salt water license. You can't target 7 gill, 6gill or threshers but you will get them fishing for soupfin or sturgeon. Just make sure you don't remove the 6gills from the water.
