    I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH MY RCA OUTPUTS ON MY KENWOOD DNX576S WHEN I PLUG THEM IN THEY WOULD ONLY PLAY OUT OF 1 SPEAKER AND IT WAS REALLY LOW AND JUST SOUNDED TERRIBLE, SO I CAME ACROSS A VIDEO YOU MADE OF DIFFERENT WIRES THAT CAN GO FROM RCA TO SPEAKER WIRE WHICH GAVE ME THE IDEA TO CUT MY KNU CONCEPTS KRYSTAL 4 CHANNEL RCAS AND CONNECT THEM TO MY HEAD UNITS SPEAKER WIRES IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE I HOPE THIS DOESNT CAUSE ANY ISSUES DOWN THE ROAD. THANKS MAN YOU AND CAR AUDIO FABRICATION ARE THE BEST OUT THERE.

      No technically what you did is okay but not optimal! It’s cool to do I guess if your in a pinch! Definitely better than nothing however, in lies the problem in which most aftermarket head units sending the audio signal thru their speaker wires(high level outputs) which you resorted to using vs the low level rca outputs, this will cause your speakers to begin to clip(distort) usually at the headunits 3/4 volume level! This is the main reason for using the rca outputs of the headunit to achieve the highest volume and sound quality free of distortion in most cases! For example, my pioneer single din, the volume maxes out at level 62, but the radio begins to clip at anything above 50 when the four colored traditional speaker outputs are in use! However, when sending the audio signals to my amps I’m able to get to 61/62 when using the rca output without any clipping. If I try to go to max 62/62 then it will clip even on the rca’s that’s the trend with these radios. So with that information I hope you can be more aware of your system and electronics to prolong the life 🤓

    Do you need to fuse the new accessory wires? Say for the back up camera or the wires for remote turn on of multiple amps? It seems like those wires are now un-fused...at least from the point of the relay to the actual devices.

    Hi, I know that you guys are really knowledgeable. I’m looking to pick
    up a 4200 NEX but I want to have the backup camera always be able to be
    on as well as switch to it when the car is in reverse. How does the
    radio need to be wired? Do you still have to wire the 4200 NEX to the
    brake lights to get this working? Seems when I was reading online you
    can connect the camera reverse wire to the 4200 NEX and it has software
    to be able to let you still view the camera any time you need to without
    being in reverse. Is this true?

      Steven Chua the remote wire out of the radio will not need a fuse. You would want to put the fuse on the feed wire for the relay( the yellow in the video). Keep in mind if you are using the wires behind the radio they are fuse by the cars fuse box.

  • @firebirdude2

    3:15 It may be splitting hairs, but it's an increase in CURRENT not voltage you're after. You said it twice, but I know you know better. :-) Good video!

    • @JulesBartow
      @JulesBartow 4 роки тому +4

      @firebirdude2 is NOT splitting hairs. Amps and Volts are two DIFFERENT things, but related to each other through a simple 3rd grade equation.
      The most basic fundamental equation of electricity
      v = ir
      Volts = Current (amps) x Resistance (ohms Ω)
      I am always flummoxed by the complete and utter ignorance of people that know nothing about the nature of the devices and contraptions that surround them in their daily life, for instance most people can't explain the difference between AC 120 volts from a transformer feeding a light switch in their home and a 1.5 DC volt AAA battery.
      If you were to use a hose and a water pump the analogy to v = ir is:
      Pressure = Flow times the Restriction
      Up the pressure (volts), you get more amps. But in a car the volts stays at 13.6 (while the battery is charging) so the only way to change the amps is to reduce the resistance. The output voltage of the accessory wire does not change.
      Resistance is given off as heat at the rate of the square of current i^2r. Heat degrades or melts insulation that causes short circuits. Fuses and circuit breakers protect against short circuits.
      Wire has resistance. A larger wire diameter wire is required, like a hose, to reduce its resistance.
      The smaller and longer the wire is, the more voltage drop occurs -- a thin wire has lower voltage on the load side than on the supply side. The more current the load pulls, the greater the voltage drop. If a backup camera only requires milliamps to operate, a relay probably isn't required.
      The significance of a relay is a tiny amount of current (milliAmps) in two small control signal wires to pins 85 & 86 turns off and on a much larger current through larger wires at pins between 30 & 87 or 30 & 87a in a Bosch-type Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) Form-C configuration. This relay configuration occurs in many, many locations; for the ignition system, engine control module (ECM), powertrain control module (PCM), starter motor, fuel pump, fuel injector system, head lights, horn, brake & parking lights, windshield wiper motor, power door locks solenoids and power seats/sunroofs/power window motors both use dual (2) relays to reverse direction by switching polarity, heated seats, alarm, defrost/heat fan motor, radiator fan motor, A/C clutch, radio and antenna motor, subwoofer amplifier, trunk lid opener, fuel door, cigarette lighter/power port, rear window defrost, windshield washer pump, trailer brake, trailer lights, trailer battery charge, accessory delay, airbag, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Pump, reverse backup light beeper, air suspension pump, fog lights/LED auxiliaries.

    can any relay be used to create the remote turn on?

    • @firebirdude2
      @firebirdude2 7 років тому +2

      He's not "creating" a remote turn-on. He's increasing the current capacity of the remote turn-on that comes from the head unit. The second part was the same situation, but with an ignition wire. Also, this is a SPDT 12V relay. There are many designs. Many will work, but many are overkill. In fact, a SPST relay would have worked for this case.

      Boyd Reid is the first relay application for 2 amps??

    • @firebirdude2
      @firebirdude2 7 років тому +2

      It can be used to turn on many many amplifiers. A standard Bosch SPDT automotive relay is good for 30+Amps of current. An audio amplifier takes anywhere from 3-40mA of current to power up. In other words, you could turn on nearly 100 amplifiers with that one relay.

    how do you know how many amps a wire has?

    • @firebirdude2
      @firebirdude2 7 років тому +1

      If you're asking about the remote turn-on wire, you can try looking in the head unit owner's manual. If you're asking about a wire in the vehicle, it's more difficult. You MIGHT be able to find that info from an online resource like AllData or Directechs, but they generally don't list that unless it's something out of the ordinary. You can track down which fuse it's connected to in order to get a rough idea. Also, the wire gauge itself would be a clue. A skinny 20awg wire isn't going to carry the amperage that a 12awg on would, for example.

      firebirdude2 so if for example i have a 15 amp remote wire i can run 3 5 amp items or how do i divide the amps properly for like a power stripe and bridg e them the 1st one will have more power or will it divide by the pool of the load ?

      I was only just saying it looks like a relay for a motor control for an assembly line. I'm sure that manufactures use relay designs for different purposes.
      I meant no offense.

      3.6L Dodge Avenger non taken, I went and looked at the relays you were referring to. They look like big versions for of the ones we use. Very cool. Last year I had to replace a AC on one side DC on the other for my Air conditioner, I never knew they made such a thing.

    You're still using ONE 12v power line from .. wherever.
    Dont you want a 'bigger' power line to power accessories? Or, is this ONLY for turning on amps, not 'powering' them.?

    what does a relay do

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc
      @FiveStarCarStereoInc  7 років тому

      speaker zedan it allows you to take a low amperage circuit and turn on a switch to a higher amperage circuit. So for example if you had a 1 amp output circuit and you needed a 10 amp circuit, you would add a relay. This is the most common use for it in car audio.

    IMPORTANT! Dean, you left out an important detail !!!:
    You need to put a "QUENCHING DIODE" or Suppression Diode in Parallel with the relay coil (Between Contacts #85 & #86) to suppress any Back EMF (which can be up to 200 volts!) from damaging the attached components!
    See Topic #36 on Relays and then scroll down the page at *www.bcae.com*
    There are Diagrams & Photos to illustrate this on the web page, but Here is what it says...
    *** Quenching Diodes:
    Anytime that a relay coil is driven by a circuit that is not specifically designed to drive a relay, you should use a quenching/suppression diode connected in parallel with the relay coil. The diagram below will show the connection of the diode. Initially, you may think the diode serves no purpose because the voltage applied to the relay cannot pass through the diode. This is true when the relay is energized. The diode comes into play When the Power s
    Source is Removed from the Relay Coil.
    When power is applied to the relay coil, a magnetic field is created and energy is stored in the coil. When power is removed, the magnetic field collapses causing a reverse voltage to be generated (it's called inductive kickback or back EMF). The back EMF can easily reach 200 volts. The diode will absorb the reverse voltage spike. This voltage, if not absorbed by the diode, will cause premature failure of switch contacts and may cause the failure of power switching transistors. You can use virtually any type of rectifier or switching diode, i.e. 1N4001, 1N4002, 1N400x... or Radio Shack part No. 276-1101, 276-1102, 276-1103, 276-1104.***
