I've installed a lot of aftermarket stereos in my kids cars. I've gotta tell you. I have no intention of bypassing the parking brake for video, but you have made an amazing video, with excellent explanations of how the relays work, etc. You even explain the proper way to crimp wires. I have picked up three or four gems in this video. I see that this video was made 11 years ago. I wish that I would have seen it back then. I hope you are well and prospering. You are a talented teacher, and I appreciate you. Thanks brother!
Just did this with my Pioneer. The Radio shop was wanting 60$+ for the kit and I spent just around 5$ Thank you kindly for the video time well spent and pointless money avoided!
hea bro, I just bought the new Pioneer AVH-X64500DVD. I installed it and could not for the life of me figure out how to get my DVD to play. I watched your video, i went back outside and grounded the parking lot wire from the deck to a good solid ground and Viola!!! It works, thanks man you are the best and i just subscribed to your channel
Thanks so much!!! I thought I hooked my radio up wrong because all it said was audio only when DVD played. So I took the green wire and put it under a bolt underneath my dash and now it works great!!!!!
My alpine had to have a positive signal than a negative signal but I apreciate you putting this out their instead of trying to sell me something, especially since u r a car audio seller
You could also use a on/off switch. I have used this on hundreds of headunits and all have worked with the on off switch. Just run the teal wire fro. The relay to one leg on the switch and the other leg of the switch to ground. If the radio requires it to switch after turn on just flip the switch off and back on. But I also see why the relay might be a more appeasing choice seeing that it automatically does this for you. But on the other hand the switch uses less wires
Thank you for this! I was going nuts looking for a wire coming off my ebrake and couldn't see anything! With all the screws on the head unit, this was an easy fix. Thank you!
Thanks a lot brotha. I was kinda mad that I couldn't get that feature on my radio and entertain my daughter in my truck. That was the whole reason why I bought it. You made my day. Thanks and great tutorial! Gracias!
Ever since I started in the buisness of car audio installer 16years . I learnd so much about relays that I use them for so many installs and mods from killswiches like horn and brake press while you crank it or others, rewired windows or doorlocks . People that are in these kind of buisness should take more time to study how a relay works , it helps alot in different funtions that you might need to modify or customise
great tutorial. Thanks. can you wire the ground into to the ground coming out of the stereo back or is it safer to run the relay ground separately and directly to the frame?
dude you'er super cool...i was getting so stressed in trying to verify the location of my parking break wire and with your help in 2 seconds i'm done. Thanks again !!!!
sadly some newer ones are getting smart, and gets the speed signal from the GPS... if it's moving but the parking brake wire is grounded, it still won't show the video and will say "parking brake signal incorrectly attached" and won't let this bypass method work. in this case, you'd have to do some research and find a workaround for it. mine? I had to click "off" and hold a certain spot on the screen for like 5-10 seconds... then got a message saying "set on"... now I can watch movies and mess with navigation settings and such, all with the parking wire cut and not attached to any ground at all.
hi James I got KIA CADENZA 2015 and would like to ask you some question regarding bypassing the DVD since its getting the speed from the GPS. Would you please contact me on Essatop16@hotmail.com
I just grounded the brake wire to my stereo unit and it worked took me 5 mins to pull out the stereo, ground the wire to the unit and put the stereo back in, thanks for the video Awesome!
First, thank you very much for posting this video, it's very informative However, I do have a question, the standard car relay draws about 120 mA, can the amp on signal from the aftermarket radio handle this current? wouldn't it be better to use a normal relay that draws about 30 mA?
Got lucky on mine was able to ground directly to radio as you did in beginning so added a small ring terminal pulled screw out back put back in with wire connected so now my dvd works keep up the videos they are helpful
Awesome mate, did this on pioneer sph da250dab, didn't allow me to do most of things because it was thinking I was driving, worked perfectly grounded to it.
Hey thanks for the video...Please post the link here for the PDF that you were talking about regarding the RELAY. It will be so much useful to me..Thanks
Lessco Electronics hello I recently watched a video about bypassing the e break feature for a double din DVD head unit. in this video a PDF about relay uses was mentioned. please send me the link for this PDF. thank you and looking forward to more videos.
Thank you so very much. I wish more people in the world were like you, it would be a better place. I too like sharing knowledge instead of making a buck out of it. Hope you are doing well.
I was going to ask if this would work. For my pioneer I just bought, I can bypass by connecting the green wire to my ground wire only AFTER the connection is made after the unit is on (the car is started). If the green wire is already connected to ground and then I start up my car (and head unit powers on), it will display a message stating that I need to make sure my parking brake is applied. Its only when I part the connection and reconnect will it trigger and bypass. So, I was thinking about using a toggle switch so after I turn the car on, I can toggle on and trigger a connection between the green wire and ground.
Thank you, bought a relais 3 euro. installed it according to your video in my mitsubishi outlander with clarion NX501 factory installed. I had to disconnect the green wire and the rest all according to your video.
The firmware on the newer Pioneer head units require you to pull the brake, release the brake, then pull again. So, the $13 bypass via ebay did the trick quite well for my AVH-4100NEX, and at only 1/20 the size of a relay.
Bout dam time we have someone that thinks like i do. Great info. I refuse to buy a 15 dollar part that is a waste of money. Thank you for clarity of information.
For those that have Pioneer Radios, you need to connect then disengaged then reconnect parking brake. It is in your owners manual. For the few that have said after installing this way my battery dies. Something is not powering all the way off. Connecting a sense wire to power or ground has nothing to with drain. It is only verifying and not pulling. A radio that is off is different than a radio in Standby. If you have amps install, make sure that your remote turn on is not still on with the ign off.
Thanks you so much. Did this to my Kenwood DNX570 and it works every time. I can hear it click as the HU is powering up. Now to keep my eyes on the road instead of the movie. :) Thanks again. 'Merica
The Kenwoods (at least from years ago) used to work if you simply grounded the parking switch wire from the back of the unit. that's as dirt cheap and easy as you can get. :) Sorry, added my comment before watching the whole video. I see your Clarion is the same!!
Nice trick. I was going to wire to chassis, but like you said Alpine made it tricky because DVD player will know that a ground wire is already grounded and It wont work. I have a bunch of those relays in my tool box, very handy things.
Clarion decks were awesome, idk if they still make them the same. I bought a flip out back like in 05 and it lasted at least 7 years, sold the truck in 2012 and the stereo was still doing its job.
Just wanted to personally say thank you for taking the time to explain the bypass. I got my girl a Pioneer AVH-4500BT and ran into the green wire. I'm hoping it works? If not, I'll just have to keep on trying....thx again!
this is a good video on the bypass. i tried to ground the wire to the dvd frame but didnt work so i just stuck the parking wire in the antenna adapter and it works just fine
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about the caps but I was ready to spent the money on the bs-moneymaking item and instead you learned me, with the minimal electrical skill I have, that I can actually do the exact same thing. Again, thanks very much.
I took your excellent advice and tested the "grounding to radio chassis" before buying a bypass and even though you said Pioneer units require a pin swap my 2015 AVH-x3700BHS works flawlessly. thanks for the info!
You did an awesome job on how to do that without buy lots of modules. The only mistake you say there’s 2 86 terminals when one is 85. There are only 87 and 87a
Thank you so much I did not know how to do it I took my device out and put a DVD in and would not let me use it I touched the wire to the cd player and it worked fine I was like wow to easy I still had the screw from the back that you take off when it is brand new bought I wrapped the wire around the screw and screwed it in tight and it works fine I am like wow to easy thank you worked great took me 5 min and was free
dudeeeee !! your tutorial rock!, it works!!! i try in my new kenwood ddx749 wiring directly to the chasis of the device and... tada!! my tv receptor works!
Thank you so much for this, I especially liked the jumper idea. I thought i could only play dvds on my Pioneer 4600bt with the emergency brake on. I only had black wiring in my garage so I used green and blue heat shrink on the tips to differentiate between the amp turn on and e-brake leads. Just a note for everyone, buy these relays online because locally at auto zone and oreilly they are ridiculous.
Others said you can ground the Green Parking wire and add a toggle switch and turn it on and off every time you want to watch the video. Over time that switch will break, plus you have to do it every time manually. Relay is best for this application, it costs $2 and 5 more minutes of your time
Hi Thanks for this informtaion, it has proven to be very helpful. On another note I would like to kindly request a copy of the relay instructions for future use. Thanks in advance.
Nice video, I just connect the parking wire to players ground and use that relay to drive the remote wire to pre amp, 4ch amp and sub amp. Very useful.
Thanks for the response, I misunderstood thinking you meant before four years ago, LOL! Duh! little brain fart on my part. Keep the videos comin great quality and very informative. A lot of simular topic videos a not near as good.
I got a Pioneer AVH4000NEX head unit and when I bench tested it, touching the green wire to chassis worked fine for the video bypass but once I had the head unit installed it would no longer bypass to watch video. It's much easier to find a premade bypass than making one with the relay you show on the video, at least for me.
I tried to make it very clear at the beginning of this video it is not for pioneer, they are unique, the new pioneer like yours needs a ground pulse and then another ground afterwards (as you most likely learned by now). But thanks for the enthusiasm and sharing the info.
My pioneer requires you to engage the parking brake, disengage, and then engage it again in order to watch videos. I wired a ground to a toggle and connected it to the video ground. Works just fine. Click click and your in business.
Hi and thanx for this very important piece of information, Just to help others too,it works with The new 2015 Pioneer AVH x7700BT fold out radio. Went to my local Maplin, picked a relay for 3 quid and was Gud to Go. It also plays dvd when u place the green wire on top of the stereo just as u did on yr video. thanx again, brilliant.
Tried grounding it to the chassis like u showed. Works but once I shut truck off stopped working. Would have to keep taking ground off and putting it back on. Tried the relay like u showed, heard the relay click on but once again relay clicks on too fast. Radio doesn't read the relay, can't watch videos while in motion. My last option is the one I didn't wanna do is run a switch in order to watch dvds. So I had an existing switch in the truck, tapped into that one and it works if I wanna watch dvds I flip the switch and video plays in motion
I just use a simple on-off-on switch and hide it under the dash. One leg goes to the parking brake wire, one goes to ground, and the center goes to the parking brake trigger on the stereo. Flip the switch one way and the parking brake has to be on (should I ever need to prove to a cop that the video won't play while moving), or flip the switch the other way and watch videos any time. For a stereo that needs to see a pulse, I can just flick the switch on and off. Cheap and simple.
I wonder if the back EMF from the relay could damage the 12V remote output on the head unit. Might be worth putting a diode across the coil terminals (Reverse polarity of course!) to suppress any spikes. I would think a 1N4001 should do the trick for a small relay, worth checking data sheets though.
This Bypass will work on the Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS but every time you turn on your car and want to watch a DVD you have hold the power button (Source button) to turn off the unit... then turn on the unit and select the source (Disc)... then the prompt will display a message saying you applied the parking brake press the OK button at the bottom and you're done! You can watch a movie without any restrictions!
Check out the double pulse bypass from DIYBypass. All new AVH-X pioneer radios will not work using a relay. They must see a double pulse on the parking brake wire.
Even after eight years, this is by far the best video on fixing this situation.
I've installed a lot of aftermarket stereos in my kids cars. I've gotta tell you. Doesn't work on all units. It did many years ago, but many don't work that way anymore.
Thank you so much for this video it really helped me alot and saved $114 on harnesses thats not needed.. Thank you again God bless
Can a person just attach the green ground wire onto the frame of the car and avoid the extra plugs and all?
makes sense to me
+Johny John yes, i did that for my eclipse unit
+Johny John yes you can , I am doing it for many years in my business .. www.hameedauto.com.au
You used to, but Pioneer made it to where you have to ground, disconnect, and reground. The relay sends that signal to trick it.
Big Thanks!! Saved me $20 and 2 weeks in the post. First method works using Sony XAV-65.
Dude you can just ground it to the ground wire and use a toggle switch
mario alvarez that's what I'm using but forget the switch sometimes
mario alvare
mario alvarez you don’t even need a toggle switch, just connect it to the ground and leave it
I was going to ask if this would work.
Hi absolutely perfect just put this relay onto my pioneer avhx3500 dab and worked straight away thanks again
Great video. Thanks. Now I'll wait for the how to PDF on relays.
positive on 86 worked for me, thanks for putting this info up
2020 still dropping knowledge thank you
Great video. This is exactly what I was looking for 👍🏾
Thanks for the video again connected my fourth vehicle with a double DIN using a relay switch major go major major go!!!
