I don’t know your background, but as an adult who was an abused child I also had a profound emotional reaction to the “it’s not your fault” scene. It still gets to me almost 30 years after this movie’s debut. I was about Will’s age when this film was released.
I hear you man. I think that scene cuts pretty deep with a lot of us who can relate, and that's a lot more people than anyone will ever know. I pray you broke the cycle and are living your best life now. 🙏😎
I read something recently about Matt Damon advocating to have a statue or memorial in Robin Williams' honor be placed at the park bench in the scene with Sean talking to Will by the lake. People already leave things there for him anyways.
Chuckie was a real friend. While he’d miss his best friend, he wanted what’s best for Will and knew he had to tell him move on from the group to reach his potential.

Good Will Hunting is one of 4 of my favorite dramatic roles of Robin Williams' vast catalog of work. Mrs. Doubtfire is my favorite of all his movies for sentimental reasons. The other 2 are Dead Poet's Society (I even have a tattoo of a quote from this movie it's that important to me) & the underrated, Patch Adams. All are such pictures into more of Robin's soul & all have important messages just like this one. Good Morning Vietnam & Hook are amazing as well.

If you like to sample some good Robin Williams movies, i suggest "Dead Poet Society" or "Patch Adams". Is interesting when I was that young, I used to believe that the residue of abuse was momentary and ephemeral. But now at my age, i realize that that pain lingers and is something not to be underestimated. The triggers remain. But with time, you learn to live with such pain. The pain is quite real. Thank you for your review on "Good Will Hunting". Is one of my favorites. 😊
Robin Williams's best movies and performences, despite being considered a comedian, are all fuses of drama and comedy. This one is almost all drama though
I saw an interview with Matt Damon where he said there's a group working to create a statue of Robin Williams to put on the bench in that park. So, if you ever had the need, you could go sit and have a conversation with him. I can't express in words how much I hope this happens.
After Robin Williams passed away someone found the exact bench that scene was shot on in Boston Common, and left a message. The epitaph read only three words - “Your move Chief.”
This is one of my favorite movies, not only because of the great script and acting, but because of the theme of a genius who might turn his back on his talent. As part of the Vietnam War/Hippie generation, I saw a tremendous number of talented people throw away their lives. I showed this movie to my daughter when she was about to enter high school. She was a brilliant student, especially gifted in mathematics, and I hoped it would ease that struggle with not fitting in with her friends (we always discuss movies in depth afterward). She went on to graduate summa cum laude and win a 4-year scholarship. Last May, she graduated college, cum laude, in just 3 years. Ironically, she would have been summa again, except for a C in organic chemistry.

Brilliant assessment of this film. Really impressive. The sequence from chief to sport to son as well as the different places Will chose to sit in Sean’s office as the movie progressed as well as the angles and movements of the cameras as well as the music were all profound and genius subtleties to give us insight into how these characters truly feel. I don’t know if I ever watched a movie prior or since, in which such a realistic and relatable dynamic was created. I can watch Damon and William’s interactions a million times and still be completely enthralled by the dialogue and expressions.

"Do you like apples?" "Yeah." "Well, I got her number. How do you like them apples?" Fun Fact: Director Gus Van Sant painted the picture that hangs in Sean Maguire's (Robin Williams) office. Five Year Dream Fact: The very first day of the shooting, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck started crying out of happiness, because it was a scene between Robin Williams and Stellan Skarsgård, accomplished actors, doing Damon's and Affleck's scene verbatim, and they had waited so long (five years) for this to happen. What Script Fact: The lines in the scene when Sean talks about his late wife's farting antics were ad-libbed by Robin Williams. That is why Matt Damon was laughing so hard. If you watch the scene carefully, you can notice the camera shaking a bit, possibly due to the cameraman laughing as well. Robin Williams' last line in the film "Son of a bitch. He stole my line" was also ad-libbed. MIT Connection Fact: Matt Damon, a former Harvard student, originally intended to make the title character a physics prodigy. He discussed his idea with Sheldon L. Glashow, a Nobel laureate in physics and, at the time, a Harvard professor. Glashow told him that the premise did not ring true to him: he suggested that the main character be a math prodigy instead. He referred Damon to his brother-in-law, Daniel Kleitman, a professor of mathematics at MIT, who provided advice on the story. Both Glashow and Kleitman are thanked in the credits.
Other good Robin Williams dramatic roles: Dead Poets Society; and Awakenings. Such a well-written film - particularly amazing given how young Affleck and Damon were when they wrote it. Damon also gives great performances in Courage Under Fire and The Departed.
Okay, answer this. Why does everyone dump on Will for not going to California? I mean, he can't. He's on probation until Robin releases him. Plus being with Skylar means being with someone who doesn't see his luggage, his fears. Hard to give that up. What is Skylar giving up? She's going to the school of her choice, she has a once in a generation superhero for a boyfriend. If she washes out of med school, she goes home and does Will go with her? Is she asking Will to marry her? Live with her? Uproot his whole life to wait at the door for Skylar to come home? Come to California for a vacation? The whole thing is so sudden it feels like Skylar has a bad case of "pride of ownership." She thinks,"I'm going to lock that kid and his genes up. Look at him. Practically a virgin. He's straight, and I've had a ton of lovers. I know things and can do things that will rock his world! Med students are notoriously cold-blooded, so I can make his blood boil. I can be so outrageous in bed, I'll become heroin to him. And he'll never leave me. I'll have the Pride Of Ownership." Will will be okay. He is so smart he could run NASA in 10 years. But it won't be with Skylar if she dumps him. And she wants to make him lover. How much time have they had together? 3 weeks? Four? And she ASKS HIM TO MARRY HER? THAT is jumping off and I to the deep end!
In honor of James Earl Jones you should check out "a family thing"! Robert Duvall discovers he and James Earl Jones are brothers after a deathbed confession by Roberts racist father and decide to meet. It's an absolutely beautiful, touching movie, with some very funny moments as well!
Those guys to write that movie at such a young age is very impressive, I heard that there was interest in companies buying the script for a good amount of money but a stipulation of the guys was, they would both be in the movie with Matt Damon playing Will, the companies did not want that, but they stuck to their guns and finally found a deal...
Also if you notice Sean and Jerry have been at odds throughout the movie, but when they finally reconcile at the end, their footsteps up the stairs are in unison.
@Martonesdef yes to know more. The whole point in life is to gain knowledge and live the life the experiences. If you can prove me wrong, please feel free. Love your reactions man. Glad you're delving into the world of Robin Williams as he's my favorite actor. Check out Dead Poets Society next since you liked this so much.
I feel like this movie challenged you not just emotionally but intellectually as well! I could be wrong! It’s not my favorite movie but I think there are some incredible moments in it and Robin Williams might be the G.O.A.T. It really affected me when he passed!💯
I know it's kind of obscure and probably not as popular as other movies but I wish you would react to The 13th Warrior, starring Antonio Banderas. I think it's an underrated classic and something you would really enjoy.
@@MrValentineReacts this movie is loosely based on Michael Crichton's Book. Eaters of the Dead: The Manuscript of Ibn Fadlan Relating His Experiences with the Northmen in AD 922 (later republished as The 13th Warrior to correspond with the film adaptation of the novel) is a 1976 novel by Michael Crichton, the fourth novel under his own name and his 14th overall. The story is about a 10th-century Muslim Arab who travels with a group of Vikings to their settlement. Crichton explains in an appendix that the book was based on two sources. The first three chapters retell Ahmad ibn Fadlan's account of his actual journey north and his experiences with and observations of Varangians. The remainder is kind of a retelling of Beowulf. The budget and theatrics are not 'blockbuster' caliber stuff (i.e. Indiana Jones, The Mummy, etc.) but it's a wonderful story with touching characters and a small appearance by Omar Sharif, (an Egyptian actor, generally regarded as one of his country's greatest male film stars. Born: April 10, 1932, Alexandria, Egypt and Died: July 10, 2015 (age 83 years), Cairo, Egypt). He's best known for playing Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and the title role in Doctor Zhivago (1965).
I believe you have it on your list already but a hidden gem and gorgeous movie but a hard watch is What Dreams May Come. Robin Williams and Annabelle Sciorra (along with some other all-star actors).
It's Robin Williams' dramatic performances that I miss the most. For as exceptional as he was at comedy and improve and making people laugh, when he took on dramatic characters, he delivered such well-rounded characters with a great deal of depth and humanity. Him, Tom Hanks, and Michael Keaton made such successful turns towards dramatic performances in their careers from their comedy roots.... it's so ironic how a man who could bring so much joy and laughter to the world was suffering that deeply within. I'll simply never be able to watch his movies "too much" or too often, as they're such an incredible body of work that he graced us with.
Last month was 10 yrs he's been gone. He's the only celebrity that I wept uncontrollably for upon hearing the news, as if a part of my childhood was taken. I watched Mrs. Doubtfire in his & my mama's honor on the anniversary of his passing. So sad to find out that he chose to leave us, but he didn't wanna be a prisoner inside his body, as the autopsy revealed early onset Parkinsons AND Lewy Body Dementia. I'm glad he's not suffering any longer, but oh how I wish he was still here. Oh Captain, My Captain ❤

Too bad "Bwastahn" is so full of scum, it wouldn't last a week.... That memorial should be an American landmark.
Most people think the professor was jealous of Will. Both Sean and the professor had will’s best interest, but went about it in different ways.
A few of the best monologues ever, Sean on the bench, chuckie’s speech to Will, and “it’s not your fault”
More powerful to me, was the bench scene, which was almost a pure monologue of realness, with a single line by Matt Damon.
Stellan Skarsgård and Robin Williams having that intense argument was such an incredible scene. Robin was such a great actor.

I'll have the Pride Of Ownership."
Will will be okay. He is so smart he could run NASA in 10 years. But it won't be with Skylar if she dumps him. And she wants to make him lover.
How much time have they had together? 3 weeks? Four? And she ASKS HIM TO MARRY HER? THAT is jumping off and I to the deep end!
You should watch Robin interact with Robert De Niro in Awakenings. Another film worth putting on your back burner.
duly noted!
Almost in double digits dude (10k). Love to see it. Keep on keepin on.
headed in the right direction. couldn't do it without you! cheers
Love your intellectual reaction! I never put much thought to when He called him son. Great catch!😊
appreciate you watching!
Your "calvalry" line made me LOL. Perfect description!
🐎 ♘
For shits and giggles u should watch Matt/Ben and Robins Oscar winning speeches
*doing it now*
Excellent reaction to a true classic!
🙌🏽 much obliged bro, much obliged. this film is spectacular
Great reaction, especially since you seem to relate so personally to Will's breakthrough with Shawn at the end.
Sean and Will helped each other.
Also if you notice Sean and Jerry have been at odds throughout the movie, but when they finally reconcile at the end, their footsteps up the stairs are in unison.
nice catch!
Will Hunting is an INTP-T. Sean is an INFP, Chuckie is an ESTP, Prof Lambeau is an ENTJ, and Skylar is an ENFP.
I don't know what all that means anymore 😅 but I can tell you do. I'd love a recap of you'd be willing to interact
@@Martonesdef google and UA-cam it.
@Martonesdef what do you mean willing to interact?
@@medieval420 to know more
@Martonesdef yes to know more. The whole point in life is to gain knowledge and live the life the experiences. If you can prove me wrong, please feel free. The one and only thing you can take with you when you pass is your life experiences and the knowledge you gained along the way. Let me know if someone has ever been able to take there money with them.
I knew you'd love this movie. I was so excited to watch with you.
🧡
Great reaction. That scene "Its not your fault" got me too. I hope you consider "Braveheart" 1995,
One of my favorite films; a perfect movie. I loved your reactions and insights as always. Your understanding and analyses of movies overall is very impressive.
cannot overstate how much gratitude I have for your watching these with me! here's to many more
One of the best efforts ever put to film. Not enough good things to say about it - both critically and personally. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed watching (& crying) with you. :) Loved your commentary.
🧡
I still get emotional ... What a movie. Glad you enjoyed it as well.
it is, as they say, heavy! In all the right ways. A supremely engaging picture
Love your reactions man. Glad you're delving into the world of Robin Williams as he's my favorite actor. Check out Dead Poets Society next since you liked this so much.
thank you! Dead Poet's Society coming soon. Cannot wait to get some ever needed context behind 'Oh Captain my Captain'
I feel like this movie challenged you not just emotionally but intellectually as well! I could be wrong! It’s not my favorite movie but I think there are some incredible moments in it and Robin Williams might be the G.O.A.T. It really affected me when he passed!💯
this is an exhaustively engrossing movie. I was moved on all fronts. Yeah, I'll never forget the sensations I had when I learned of his untimely exit
I know it's kind of obscure and probably not as popular as other movies but I wish you would react to The 13th Warrior, starring Antonio Banderas. I think it's an underrated classic and something you would really enjoy.
+1 for The 13th Warrior!
+ 2. It's a lot of fun. A nod there to Beowulf.
you have me intrigued
Indiana Jones, The Mummy, etc.) but it's a wonderful story with touching characters and a small appearance by Omar Sharif,
(an Egyptian actor, generally regarded as one of his country's greatest male film stars. Born: April 10, 1932, Alexandria, Egypt and Died: July 10, 2015 (age 83 years), Cairo, Egypt). He's best known for playing Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and the title role in Doctor Zhivago (1965).
You should check out Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society
Dead Poet Society is another great dramatic role from Robin Williams.
🔜coming!
You should check out Dead Again. Robin Williams has a small but great role. The whole movie is excellent.
Outstanding and insightful commentary, a pleasure to watch Mr. Valintine.
This is in the top 5 films ever made.
I believe you have it on your list already but a hidden gem and gorgeous movie but a hard watch is What Dreams May Come. Robin Williams and Annabelle Sciorra (along with some other all-star actors).
Such a beautiful classic!!
Check out Robin Williams in "Dead Poets Society" and "Good Morning, Vietnam"
Dead Poets Society-you must watch it!
Great Reaction. Robin Williams did also in mrs Doubtfire
Val! Can I call you Val? I feel like I know you well enough after 20 or so reactions. 😎 Thank you for finally getting around to this movie.. I knew all your flabbers would be gasted, there are so many great moments in this movie and I was looking forward to you reacting to every one. 👊 🙏
You can, indubitably, call me Val! 20 reactions? We are essentially old pals. Appreciate you experiencing these pictures with me!
You may be right. I'm pretty critical of movies when it comes to screenwriting, But I cannot think of any flaws in that category either.
Same. My 3 act structure antenna is ACTIVE during films. It seems pristine.
You should watch the Robin Williams movies "WHAT DREAMS MAY COME", "ONE HOUR PHOTO" and "INSOMNIA" w/ Robin, Al Pacino, Hillary Swank. Robin was such an Incredible Person, a Huge Talent. I miss him. RIP Robin.
Thank you for your reaction to the movie, "Good Will Hunting". Can you please react to the movies,"Jo Jo Rabbit", "As good as it gets " and "Dead Poet's Society","The Barbie Movie","One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest","Jerry McGuire ","Pleasantville ","Corpse Bride"?
I've been meaning to watch Jo Jo Rabbit &&Dead Poet's society!!
Pleasantville was one of my favorite films growing up. Even at a young age I was bowled over by it's sophistication and subject matter
@@MrValentineReacts Thank you Mr. Valentine . Yesterday I watched your reaction to the movie, Stand by me. The movie touched your heart ❤️.
I love this movie so much I still have it on DVD lol I watch it a lot. Great reaction!
I've seen it twice since. It only increases its effectiveness with each rewatch
@@MrValentineReacts Yes, absolutely. I could not count how many times I have watched this and it is just as emotional and beautiful every time!
First time I've seen your channel. You have some very astute observations. I'll subscribe!
grateful for your sub!
I knew you would like this movie!
Even in a damn reaction video, this fucking movie always makes me cry several times.
"you're a phony, bucko" that's what I say to all my haters
I remember thinking this would be a chick flick and thought it'd be rubbish and avoided it...put it on TV one night by chance, very powerful ,very moving and uplifting movie..its in my top 10
My super power in life, knowing someone's intelligence without knowing them. You rate very high on my meter sir.
Along with that power comes the instant knowledge whether someone is more intelligent than myself. That part i never share. Its to my advantage, positive or negative to the truth.
grateful for your generosity. I have my moments. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
What is the little gold statue on the chair behind you? Significance?
It is a 'Dundie' from the TV show 'The Office' lol
The most prestigious award of all.
Top 5 movie imo
Mr. Valentine, since this film moved you, I think you would be remiss if you miss "The Fisher King" (1991), another amazing insightful film where Robin Williams is brilliant. It's underrated, and deserves to be remembered. I always enjoy your reactions, but am subscribed for your commentary. Thank you!
I've heard that film mentioned in interviews but I haven't the slightest idea about the plot line. thanks for your subscription and recommendation!
I really enjoyed this reaction.
🙏🏾
Wish you had included the baseball scene due to it is great but also due to the call back to it in the final scene.
Another masterpiece reaction in the piggy bank. Thank you, Mr. Valentine. It was an hour well spent.
music to my ears. thank you for your time!
This reaction was wonderful to behold. Thank you for this. It's a great movie! ❤
If possible, could you please react to 'What dreams may come". It is another fantastic, heart-wrenching, and funny preformance by Robin Williams. It touches on so many emotional levels and is just absolutely beautiful, visually, and deeply effective in every way possible. I think you will *love* its exquisite story telling and STUNNING cimematograpghy!
you have done a remarkable job of arousing my curiosity for the film. Will make sure to get around to it. thank you, kindly 🤙🏽
@@MrValentineReacts You won't regret it! 😊 Have a great night!!!
Good one, Mr V! Yeah, this is a special movie. So when they took their trip to Hollywood for the Oscars, both Matt & Ben took their mothers with them to the awards ceremony. And then they actually won. How cool is that? You should look up the clip on YT of their win. It's heart warming. Thanks for sharing this one. Your shout out to Al made me chuckle.
Simple Question??????? What do you want.to.do with your life is THE HARDEST QUESTION THERE IS FOR A KID OF 20.I!!!!!! KIDS WILL HAVE 1000 THINGS THEY WANT TO DO AND BE BY THE TIME THEY ARE 30! Yet viewers let that guy slide by with that question to Will.
And the Professor isn't a psychologist. He's doing the best he knows how to do.
I think Lethal Weapon (1987) would be an interesting view.
I hope you at one point soon check out Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and many others. It's such a brilliant and beautifully shot movie, I'll think you'll absolutely adore it.
Thank you for your reaction to the movie, Good Will Hunting " I will watch it once it premieres. Can you please react to the movies, Jo Jo Rabbit and As Good as it gets?
As good as it gets is awesome! ❤
Jack Nicholson? Sign me up!!!! also i like Taika Waititi's aesthetic
Try a movie called Big Fish. Fabulous storyline, better writing. Top actors. You’ll shed more tears than this movies.
I'm pretty sure Ben Afflek and Matt Damon wrote this.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
thank you for watching alongside me
Adored this and deeply appreciate your profound ability to articulate your emotions and perspective throughout...I would be abundantly grateful if you could appropriate the time to react to a similarly profound Robin Williams film, Good Morning Vietnam. You will find it immeasurably satisfying and full of brilliant improvisation!
Consider my time appropriated, my friend. you have my gratitude for watching this with me and I look forward to it!
Insightful reaction.
🤙🏽
Well, there's *sort* of a sequel...
(Watch Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back)
Annals of History....No, not redundant.
