Unpopular opinion. The soundtrack in this game was ass, to give credit it did sound magical and captured the atmosphere well but it was very annoying to me and wasen't my taste. And this is coming from a guy that was jamming when hearing music from harry potter.
Definitely the case for me with the Guild of Heroes background song. It's like the Fable equivalent of the Hymn of The Fayth from FFX (minus the overarching impact to the plot obviously).
The most memorable part of the original Fable for me was the Speaking Stones quest that wants you to spell out the word HITS, but you are also given the freedom to make it spell out the word SHIT, and spawn a bunch of enemies after it realized what you made them say.
Fable was something greater than the summ of it's part imo. No singular thing in the game was anything overly special (except the music) but it all somehow fit together to form something quite magical. When I think of Fable, I get a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, it's a very "cozy" game, I still love it.
I played Fable when I was 14. I didn’t notice the poor writing or story issues present. I was in love with the world they created. The score for the game is still one of the greatest I’ve ever listened to and I still play it from time to time while I work.
I mean, when you're young it's not really that you don't see story issues, it's more that you don't really care cause things are a decent time-waster. Fable always felt like a very simple, basic, don't-think-about-it-too-much story, but that was part of its charm, including your ability to do right and wrong. It's when we get older we naturally become more snobby and critical of things since we're no longer happy-go-lucky youths, and can't enjoy things as much.
Kevin Iz I know exactly what you mean. I’m 30 now and I see things differently. I think I’m one of the only 8 people who liked the Last of Us 2 for example. Nowadays I’m really interested in games that do push the envelope in story telling and graphics, but I’ll never forget where I started.
fun fact: in the fable 2 loading screen tips there is a tip that says the fable 1 protaganist murdered the guild master and carved "your health is low" on his forhead after the game ending
to be fair, it doesn't say that the hero of oakvale actually did it it just says that its rumored to have happened shortly after or before the hero went to fight jack a second time point being its still left ambiguous, and its possible someone else got tired of the guildmasters shit. Though they have LOTS of mentions of the sword of aeons as well.. though that could be just the avos tear (they look similar in shape) but the only thing going for it is really shape. my guess is its the devs/writers way of trying to be like "this is most likely the canon options" without actually stating as such also remember in fable theresea mentions multiple worlds and timelines, so its possible some weird multiverse shit is going on, which explains heros in fable 2, and fable 3 jespar even mentions how your father designed something to connect and communicate with these other worlds, with other heroes.
@@DivineXPotato bruh it reads: "around the time jack of blades was felled by a great hero, there was rumors that the guildmaster was murdered by this same hero. they say the words "your health is low" were carved on the guildmaster's head" but your explanation makes sense
the weirdest thing about the game is how your character's age is tied to his level. so by the end of the game he was a wrinkle-faced, white-haired old man (still built like a wrestler), but everyone else didn't age one bit.
It isn't entirely tied to your level. If you donate 1,000,000 to the temple of Avo, you get a youth potion to reduce your age while keeping all of your levels.
@@Fading_Skies yeahh you can do that twice I think? You have to time it right though. I THINK it's possible to stay as young as 30 by the end of the game.
@Dentou Steam That's just a jab at the bogus claims. Back before it came out Peter Molyneux, the head of the studio, claimed you could do that with an acorn in the original Fable. They made a bunch of different claims that they didn't fulfill for Fable.
@@billoo13 yeah I remember the plans/claims of being able to cut certain grass or plants and they would remain cut as they were left and grow back slowly over time
The aesthetic of this game is honestly what made it so good, fond memories; haven’t really come across another game with the same aesthetic. It just felt, like playing an old fairytale turned into a game. Weird but, worth it.
Not gonna see a game like that for a long time. I haven't played a game that gave me the feeling of true nostalgia like Fable did when it came out 19 years ago.
It's similar to what got me so hooked on the Witcher series and books. That different take on folklore and fairytales. It has tons of charm imo. Fable 1 really nailed that feel for me.
I remember those times... When games were complete. I must've played through the first Knights of the Old Republic well over 100-almost 200 times and probably only played a dark side playthrough once or twice. Did you do something similar with choosing one path or was it equal good and evil for you?
@@hihihihihello i have played terraria for 500+ hours and i have never beated it i just delete my world half way trough. i have done this atleast 40+ times
honestly still surprised how many character based options fable had back in the day that modern rpgs just don't have, like really why can't i get fat in skyrim when i eat 100s of bread loafs or just emote to a npc with a wave or romance a normal person
I love it how npcs mention your achievements and tittles when they see you, but in Skyrim the Companions are always going to call you a whelp, even after you have kill Alduin
As a dev on this, Fable 2 and Fable 3, thanks for the nice review :). The DLC was certainly not designed before the first game was finished! One thing to remember is that Peter was primarily involved in Black & White & The Movies, the Fable games were designed mainly by Dene Carter who left at the beginning of Fable 3, Peter was more the 'face' of the games as Dene hated publicity (Which is why you don't really know about him!).
I don't have much to say about 2 and 3, as I didn't really play them. But the first game in the series dominated my childhood, alongside games such as Halo 1 & 2 and Morrowind. I played Lost Chapters much later and genuinely felt like it was a part of the original game with how seem less it transitioned from the original story. A decade or so later and being an adult I got ahold of the Anniversary edition. I was so happy that the game still held up, with many quality of life changes that 8 year old me never noticed were a hassle. I hope you and the other devs still take pride in making this enjoyable masterpiece.
I truly enjoyed and still love the original FABLE. To me that is one of the greatest rpg ever created. I spent hours playing and replaying that game. You guys did an outstanding job with that masterpiece. Thank you very much.
Whose idea was to ditch classic unique weapon system and replace it with silly nonsense of morphing weapons from preset parts? Worst design decision of Fable 3 imo.
I actually really liked The Movies when it came out, so I'm pretty surprised to hear he headed that one. This explains what happened to Fable 3 though.
"I actually won't be covering the entire franchise in one 4-hour long video" You do you Salt but you know i'd be watching a ten hour video breakdown if you did it
Seriously though long videos are huge on youtube now. Especially video game reviews, people love background noise while they're gaming Not sure how different the monetization is between one long video vs 3 short ones though
I'v played fable The lost chapters at least a dozen times! It remains ym fav game of all time!!! I've evenrecently mad e a profile where eI'v got ALL the silver keys and demon doors, and done almost everything there is to do in the game!!! @@manny9050 i played through 4 times once 100% good. Then evil then one where i started as good and then turned evil and then one where i started evil and redeemed myself. The game does have some roleplay value.
Back when this game was released I was enthralled by it. I don't think it has aged that well, but back when it came out, many new game mechanics were introduced that we take for granted these days.
i think it has aged very well after watching 2 minute of this video i realized i missed it and went back and now replaying the game. after that im gona play lost stories
The original game has very different graphics, a little outdated but not clunky as they seem here. It was the Art and Sound i loved so much about this game i still have it
Dude I don't know, watching this video is the first I've seen in years, and it looks Great! The story was pretty good, and the character building was pretty fun, but for 2004, these graphics are better than some games nowadays, I think it looks super fun and if I still had my Xbox I might give it another run through. So, respectfully, I disagree lol
JbuckeyeT this video is for Fable Anniversary, which is the graphically remastered version of the original Fable that was only released a few years ago. The original Fable’s graphics look very different.
The trick was to save your experience elixers and use them at the most opportune time.. There is a good spot on the road by the prison you rescue your mom from.. Get your multiplier up really high say 120-130X then drink the elixer. The next time you visit the college to level up, you literally unlocked every skill in the game. The trading system was also retarded... Sell all rubys, then buy all rubys. sell all buy all, sell all buy all. Literally make millions then donate millions at the church for a blessing of youth. Then donate even more millions at the church for the priest just to laugh at you as you realize you get nothing for it the second time... The priest just laughs and says the gods are fickle today. Buy all and sell all for unlimited gold.
Whisper calls you “farm boy” while begging for her life because you are childhood friends and that’s what she nicknamed you when you first met. She was trying to invoke the bond you share to spare her life.
@@littlebird7383 well Buttercup did call Wesley farm boy but that’s not exactly unique. Could be a reference or it could just be them using the same nickname.
I killed her in one of the games that I played and after wards I got so much flack from villagers that I decided then on I would err on the good side if I wanted to play it that way.
I remember being too goddamned terrified to go into Darkwood when I was younger. It wasn't the area itself, although the creepiness didn't do anything to help, it was those bloody Balverine's. They came back in future games but they weren't nearly as annoying as they were in the original. In future games, you could stun-lock them and just kill them easily. They didn't get nearly as bad invincibility frames and were easy to avoid even with a young and not very tactical mind. But in this game, I mentally shat myself whenever they jumped in the air and would roll around like an idiot to avoid getting dropped on. They also never seemed to die to my master longsword which was really annoying too. Mini rant aside, there's so much about this game that I haven't found in any other game no matter how much I look for it. Maybe it's because this was my first ever video game but there's just something about it I love and will never be replaced.
I was laughing at salt dealing with those mushrooms with the bow like a tool. You just use lightning and auto target and you'll zap the whole field of them in half a second lmao.
I couldn’t figure out how to use the inventory, I sold my clothes for $ ended up running dark woods with the rusty katana naked. it was very difficult.
You can abuse the combo multiplier by always having a force shield on. The multiplier drops when you take damage, but the mana shield prevents that. Totally broken, shittons of exp.
I used to abuse the assassin rush spell when fighting things like trolls, just as they are about to smash the ground, you use assassin rush, and for whatever reason, your character will appear to have taken damage but it actually has no effect on your health. Works great in the arena lol. No sure how well known this is.
There is a genuine charm about your videos. They are like a playthrough with commentary that also reviews. Can't say that I can binge watch them all in one sitting but I find myself going back and rewatching them from time to time.
The Sword of Aeons and Avo's Tear are the highest DPS weapons in the game, while the Solase Greatsword does more base damage, the Sword of Aoen's and Avo's Tear are light weapons which means you can swing them faster leading to more hits and thus more damage in the same amount of time.
@@nobodie9996 They never made the Sword of Aeons a heavy weapon. That's a really weird lie. They cut it's damage per swing in half, but they never slowed it's swing speed, and even with the damage nerf, it is *still* one of the two highest dps(econd) weapons in the game, tied with Avos Tear. If you're gonna make stuff up, pick something that isn't so easily checkable. Furthermore, you cannot even *GET* Avos Tear in the original. It doesn't exist. So why would you assume he never played The Lost Chapters, when the second item he named is exclusive to that version of the game? Seems more like *you* never played Fable at all lol.
The second game I ever played was fable 3. The first was Halo: Reach interesting both franchises driven to the ground. I played them both in a rented Xbox 360 it died
NatarisX I disagree. I played “Fable: The Lost Chapters” with no context as to what the game was. I didn’t pay attention to game development at that time and played it about a year after it’s release. I was absolutely blown away by it. Maybe it would seem bland if you were promised an entire universe for a year and got something different, but that would be the same with any game. That wasn’t the case for me. It *was* ahead of its time. I’d never played a game where every small decision I made had such an effect of the world around me. How I was perceived by NPCs, my appearance, what I had access to, the environment... pretty much all RPG games these days have the morality system that started with Fable. It was honestly the best game I’d ever played at the time and it’s still in my top 3 today. Between Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.
I've always had a soft spot for this franchise. The music, the art design, the humour ... I love it all. But I would be lying if I said I wouldn't see the massive flaws each installement has. I'd still love to have a Fable 4, tough.
Same, Fable 1 was my first true experience with hype as a kid. Even though being lied to sucked immensely, I still played the absolute shit out of this game and was completely blown away by the depth of the game at the time. Edit: have to add something: was the anniversary edition or whatever version is being played in the video censored in some way? I'm remembering blood and dismemberment in quite a few places where it was missing in this video.
@@Lysergiik Now that you mention it... Can't say since I only played the original. Maybe there's an option to turn the blood off? Damn, it's been too long.
Yeah, Fable takes the older, Ancient Greek definition of “hero” as the norm- being an unusually powerful demigod of sorts who is destined for great, if not necessarily good things. I actually always found that idea quite interesting, because other games just wouldn’t use the word “hero” at all unless it was good stuff you were doing. Also yes I think the Lost Chapter was originally meant to be for the vanilla game, since it was possible to bug your way to the Northern Wastes in the original XBox release from what I remember. No quests or anything, but the location is there.
i remember I always chose the evil thing to do and ended up with horns on my head, red glowing eyes, and walking around leaving fire and smoke in my wake. The people would scream in fear and run away whenever I came into town. I did end up playing both good and evil, it was so satisfying to see how your actions changed the peoples perceptions of you. It was fun game. Chicken Chaser. lol. I never did play 2 or 3.
I always thought that the reason you lose the ability to use magic in jail is because the guards confiscated your Guild seal. I don't think it's ever stated explicitly, but given that you need it to teleport, I always assumed that it helped you focus your other magic powers, too. Like, will is innate to the user, but isn't really all that useful without something to focus and direct it with. Like wands in Harry Potter.
@@valmaxianelvengod And the reason why there's no heroes anymore in Albion by the time of 3 is because people got tired of jackass heroes eventually and destroyed the old guild. I always liked that part of the story. Makes sense to reason they'd eventually start using their power for self serving purposes.
@@valmaxianelvengod ah but in fable 3 you also need the magic gauntlets to cast spells! which to me implies the guild seal is only for teleportation and such, while the gauntlets are the true Harry Potter wand type thing, although there’s never really a point where you have the guild seal without the gauntlets and vice versa so it’s hard to say
@@SeviathTheHumanDrago I like that part a lot too, it’s a very real feeling part of the story, it’s not an insane incredible story about the hero’s guild falling valiantly, they were just assholes because they held a bunch of power, and people got sick of that, it’s just like a super cold cut realistic way for the guild to fall apart and I love it
this series has so much potential. a modern remake for the original that not only fulfills the original promises but great expands on all the basic ideas and adds new ones could be amazing. It wouldn't even be hard to do at this point.
I remember everyone i walked past calling me a chicken chaser. This was the default title until you changed it. It was pretty funny but when i was a kid i was so confused as to why everyone was calling me that. i was like "But i don't even chase the chickens"
Fable 1 - The Lost Chapters will forever hold a special place in my heart. I was maybe 12 or so when I first got this game, and the athmosphere created in the game through the music and game design was just magic to me. Just as an example, the Darkwood Trader Escort Quest: Being 12 Years old and deciding if you let a dude that got bitten die on his own in this forsaken place, or taking the risk he could be turning into a balverine himself was just mindwrecking to me then. I recently replayed it with a good friend of mine together and still can recommend it a ton, I have to say this is one of the games I will always remember for being truly unique. It is just a shame the other Fable Games were so bland in comparison for me...
Fable 1 is probably my favorite, but Fable 2 is really good as well. I think some of the charm is lost on it, but it is a much more fleshed out game while still retaining many of the great qualities from the The Lost Chapters
My old self was always so afraid to do the dark wood trader escort back in the days, the dark woods just really scared me especially when your character is just a skinny newbie at the beginning, I was really afraid too of failing a quest before for whatever reason that was lmao
If I remember correctly, the Lost Chapters was a re-release including cut content missing from the original game. So your pretty much right when saying the original game was released early/unfinished.

Originally, the Jack of Blades sword, named the "Sword of Aeons", caused 550 of damage, but it was later downgraded to 230 of damage in "The Lost Chapters" & this downgraded version was reused for the Anniversary Edition; Its counterpart, named the "Avo's Tear", which has existed since TLC, also causes 230 of damage.
It was only strong because it was the end of the game, why not give you an overpowered toy to play with if you decided to play after the credits. Once they lengthened the game they couldn't have you running around with a one handed 550 dmg sword, you would melt everything.

Molyneux is a massive liar, and a con artist. He made a game called Curiosity. Where players tap a cube. He sold DLC such as a $77000 DLC and others, all because he said the content at the center of the cube is worth it and "would be life changing" ... Then a person finally got into the cube, and there was a video of Molyneux saying "we could have just given the winner a ton of money, or a car, but we will do something better, we will make the winner into a literal God" and then Molyneux did an advertisement for his upcoming super shitty mobile micro transaction game, and promising the winner that they would get to influence the game "like a God" and would get "a small portion of the revenue". So okay, the winner tried to contact Molyneux, and the team replied that he will get his prizes later. He kept mailing them once per month until they stopped replying. Two years later he went to the press to say he STILL had not received the prize. Molyneux promised via the press that he would take care of it. But he didn't. That was in 2015. Way back when I first played this game, I kept expecting there to be a "twist" that your mom was Jack of Blades, since her hero name was Scarlet Hood and Jack also wears a similar garment.
I think a better twist would've been that she was the Queen of Blades trapped in a mortal form. For the same reasons: both she and the Queen wore scarlet robes..

There is a Demon Door that wants you to perform a great evil act in front of it. The most memorable part of this game was when Whisper departed. Whisper may not have been the best person but I did consider her a friend and when she said she was leaving forever, it hit me real hard as a kid. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of playing Fable 1 but damn if I didn't play the shit out of Fable 2, it's a shame that it doesn't get talked about as often because it was really fucking good, and revolutionary to my tiny kid brain growing up. One section in particular which blew my mind was when my character was sent out to the spire to work for eight years. By the time he came back the family he left behind grew up and had little personalities. It was tragic in that I missed out in seeing them grow up but the family which was completely optional to have with a random girl, changed because of the choices he made. Also he got fat when he ate pie. Please review
I strongly disagree that the evil ending in The Lost Chapters is more compelling. If you read the hero's journal, it's revealed that the mask still contained the essence of the Jack of Blades. He completely possesses the hero, mocks him for having a journal and declares in it how he has everything he needs now to dominate the world. The Sword of Aeons with the heroes' mother and sister's essence in it, and the heroes battle-tested body. Why would the player character, even if he's pure evil, surrender his body and soul over to the Jack of Blades? It's a complete possession, too. Jack writes something along the lines of "he's gone, only the Jack of Blades remains!" or something like that. It's not a merging of souls. Why give his mind and body to Jack when Jack has caused all this mayhem in his life? The "Hero" may be evil, but, I presume he wouldn't want to give his entire being over to the bad guy who he killed in the first part of the game and who has constantly been taunting/insulting/mocking him throughout both the original and the DLC/expansion. It doesn't really make sense. If the player is evil, then Jack is more of a rival than someone you'd want to give your unlimited power to. Even in my evil playthroughs, I threw the mask away immediately after trying it once and discovering the journal entry. I would get a buttload of karma for doing it but then I'd go sacrifice some folk to Skorn to make up for it, haha. Anyway, just my two cents. I found this ending to be more compelling until I saw the journal and the implication it gave that the player was now Jack and he had fallen for Jack's plan.
it's less of an implication and more of a statement honestly, jack of blades is immortal- this we keep getting told by books and his general reputation as being roughly 10-20x stronger than all the top teir heroes which seems legit if you've ever fought thunder... the mask IS jack the body is just a fool who wore it thinking that he would become that strong....he doesn't (jack gets a weak body but he himself is powerful, combine his strength and he's unstoppable but still only jack not you)
Sam Sizer if putting on the mask was such a dumb idea even for an evil character then why did you have your character put on the mask the first time round
"Wear me, wear me and gods will envy your power. Wear me, and the world will bow at your feet. Wear me, and you shall be immortal." This is what the mask promises you. Power, immortality, ruling the world. It's not your character willingly surrendering body and soul; it's a trick claiming he will gain even more power (not that he necessarily needs it at this point, but I think it's plausible an insane evil character wanting all the power he can get). So by accepting the mask you aren't willingly inviting Jack in, you believe you're simply going to be stronger. Which is why I think this was an awesome ending/twist-in trying to become more powerful than...anything that has ever existed, the evil Hero loses themself to the mask-like previous heroes have done, continuing the cycle. Alternatively a good hero throws the mask away, defeating Jack once and for all.
@@ossiehalvorson7702 I found the story quite interesting actually. Liked the many fairytale parallels this game depicted-such as King Arthur’s Excalibur, Jack in the Beanstalk, Red Riding Hood, no Goldilocks or Hansel & Gretel though sadly.
you forgot the mystical frying pan........its a side quest to find a frying pan for someone in a town or something, but the frying pan is made with mystical properties so at the very end you must toss something in that's mystical not just the sword. so at the very end when you take the sword, switch out the sword for the frying pan and toss that in and it willl think you tossed in the sword. then sit through all the credits, do NOT just hit the x button to skip the credits. once they run through, it'll ask you to continue and you'll play after the last saved point WITH the sword. my faorite bit was augmenting a strong weapon to gather mana energy each time it killed an enemy and then enter berserk mode which gives greater strength and endurance with slightly slower speed (unless you dash). once you max your stats for damage then you one hit monsters in normal but remember you're in berserk mode and since your weapon is refueling your mana you never leave berserk mode while you're continually attacking, sooooo that's why i like going to the grey house and just getting rich cause each monster also drops money so if they are never ending and you are just one hitting with invisibility then you go ham.
What ending are you referring too? The first fight with jack you either kill ur sister and keep the sword after the credits of toss the sword and get the light side equivalent of the sword after the credits. The second battle with the dragon you either toss the mask or keep it.
I haven't thought about Fable in forever, but this video brought a wave of memories flooding back. I was mostly a Nintendo kid when I was growing up, but I got an original Xbox in, like, 2008, and played a lot of those games a bit late. Fable blew my mind. There are so many standout moments that I remembered, and hearing that they were actually good is nice.

It's incredible how visually well the first Fable has aged. Even mecanically. Missed it on the OG days so tried it a while ago and it was a blast (until the final boss, that is).
Fable II is still one of the most positive gaming experiences of my childhood and I'd do anything to replay it again for the first time. Good video, brought up good memories :(
Remember the vanilla days when the Sword of Aeons was the most powerful weapon? That choice kind of lost its impact in TLC. Though having no new content to use it on killed the impact in it's own way back in vanilla.
Not sure if it's relevant, but they might've had to nerf it due to an exploit speedrunners found to get the Sword of Aeons near the beginning of the game. Maybe it's just coincidence though
i always just went to the graveyard with infinite respawning zombies and got a crap load of xp before maxing out all skills. personally hated TLC, what 7 yr old thought it would be a good idea to revive the final boss you already killed as a dragon? makes no sense even in fables world
@@timmorton8918 It's not about the power. The Sword of Aeons was the ultimate weapon but you needed to kill your last family member to get it. That choice loses all impact when it's no longer the most powerful weapon. Even more so when Avo's Tear is a functionally identical counterpart that you get for throwing it away. It went from being the final temptation to just a decent evil aligned sword with a heroic counterpart.

This is the last game I truly enjoyed playing. I was at the end of my rabid gamer phase so I maxed out every aspect of Fable and loved every minute of it. I was never really able to get into a game quite as I did with it and even tried again with Fable 2 but I lost the magic. A lot of people blame the games for not being as interesting or good but fail to realize they are the reason why and have just grown out of the phase where they can truly enjoy playing. Some people are able to bring the joy of playing into later life and some cannot. Life just got too complicated for me to be able to invest the time needed to really enjoy games. I am much sadder as a result. I loved this video tho, it brought back a little blue to the gray.
He only did the title/ main theme, the rest was done by someone else. That iconic, floaty fantasy tune was not him. He did the actiony, dramaticish song that plays during major story cutscene and the title screen.
The music in this game was second to none. The music, the art style, it all has this.... soothing effect. Wandering through Bowerstone and Greatwood in the first game was just enjoyable and pleasant. Fighting the Balverines in the Darkwood was terrifying. A great game, and will always be missed.
Man I love Fable. Whenever I recommend Fable TLC to people, I always describe it as "imagine Skyrim made ten years earlier" and "it's a perfectly average video game. It doesn't do anything amazing, but it don't do anything bad". Sure, some quests and areas I really do not appreciate, but they're never long enough to overstay their welcome, at least not for me
It's one of those games where if you take any one aspect of the game in isolation, it's going to be pretty meh. The game has to be appreciated for all aspects together, because it's a pretty unique experience. Some other games like Kingdom of Amalur sort of try, but in all the worst ways with almost none of the positives.

Heh, no kidding? I actually just found Origins at Gamestop about a month ago myself and wanted to revisit it. Along with far cry 2, halo reach, and trying fallout new Vegas for the first time
origin have the best story but worst gameplay (if you compare the gameplay of dragonage 2 and inquisition) 2 have worst story , inquisition kinda mixed good point of origins and 2
@@bobbeatbox idk i like the game play more in origins. Its harder and theres far more skills. Inquistion is basically a hack and slash. Even on the hardest difficulty with enemies at your level turned on its still too easy and whatever type of character you build you pretty much have one route to take. Everyone basically has the same character running around skill wise.
When it comes to killing whisper I usually don't. Her dialogue indicates a change if you stand there long enough she says "Please just walk away Far-...Hero"
After watching the whole video in one sitting, I would really like another where you cover Fable 2! Great video, super entertaining, will definitely get back into playing this classic.
Fable now that I'm older impacted me more than I realized. I cried when his mother was killed. That whole level taught me so much about life and death. I felt my heros pain so much. Idk if others feel this way. Matured me in a way at such young age.
Great video, very jam-packed and it's always good to see someone's view on the Fable Games. No one really does it anymore... I always feel disappointed when I hear how much content was cut from this game. The open world, the amazing ideas like being able to change the world around you, not just your character. You can tell the developers tried their best to iron out what they can and make a solid game with what they had. I have been playing the game annually, ever since I was a kid and I honestly don't see that tradition ever changing. Thank you for the amazing memories, Lionhead Studios and may you guys find great work elsewhere.
i remember seeing this game as a kid in 2008 in a magazine and i wanted to play it so bad but never got the chance to (poor boi) but i experienced fable at first with the second one and i absolutely loved the game, played the 3rd one hated myself then the original fable came to 360, by far my favorite out of all of them.
"I actually won't be covering the entire franchise in one four-hour long video so we can all breathe a sigh of relief there." As a fan of MauLer's critical analysis, I sigh with disappointment.
Salt : "it's easy to see how dark souls was inspired by this game" IGN reviewer of the crash bandicoot remake : Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well
I'm really enjoying these videos! Fun to go back in time, I can picture myself as a kid in my basement sitting cross-legged playing these old games! Good memories! 😊
With regards to Fable's charm and style, the closest things I can think of that match the game's character are the Discworld and Overlord series (both of which were penned by the Pratchetts, incidentally enough). Comic fantasy with a dash of dark humor and wit.
Thank you for putting into words how I feel about my first and favorite rpg with a morality system. Also my favorite animation in this game is how sometimes a bandit’s head will come off, spin on the air for a few seconds while the body falls, and then you can kick it around for fun.
Who else remembers hearing all the rumors about the "Dragon Island" when the Vanilla game first launched? I remember doing the shovel dig glitch and forcing myself into the ocean because I was told if you kept on digging you would eventually traverse the water and get to that island up North.
I remember playing the first one on PC out of curiosity. I started loving it as I played further. I love the whole good and evil thing which changes your alignment and appearance! That was what I remembered about the game the most.
@@grognack1817 Renoun doesn't matter. She won't leave town during work hours. OP is correct. I did it twice this weekend because the game glitched and brought her back to run the shop before I could buy it.
I've played through this game so many times and yet never knew about half of the optional stuff till I watched this. I had no idea you actually got to see Whisper again after the arena
as someone who has played this game sooooo many times, This made me laugh really hard to watch., I was a long time fable fan and I haven't played in years and never would've thought of comparing it to stuff now. I have. yet to play another game with similar charm and aesthetic. that's my favorite part about it .
The music of this game crawls into your soul and stays there forever
Unpopular opinion. The soundtrack in this game was ass, to give credit it did sound magical and captured the atmosphere well but it was very annoying to me and wasen't my taste. And this is coming from a guy that was jamming when hearing music from harry potter.
@@Liam-jy7yi very unpopular. This game’s music is a masterpiece
To the point where time to time I'll find myself whistling the opening to fable 2 absent mindedly
We all know that the oakvale theme is the greatest musical creation
Definitely the case for me with the Guild of Heroes background song. It's like the Fable equivalent of the Hymn of The Fayth from FFX (minus the overarching impact to the plot obviously).
Fun fact: For the "do something evil" Demon door, if you already have a shit ton of evil, he'll be like "holy crap you're the master get in here"
For the demon door in the guild you just have to shine your lantern at it
I remember that. On my first playthrough I threw the sword away and the game ended with "You are now good enough to use the Apologize command."
yes
I remember one of my playthroughs I took a female villager there and murdered her in front of the door and he said It wasn’t good enough lol.
You can also eat a certain number of 'crunchy chicks' (basically eating baby chickens whole)
The most memorable part of the original Fable for me was the Speaking Stones quest that wants you to spell out the word HITS, but you are also given the freedom to make it spell out the word SHIT, and spawn a bunch of enemies after it realized what you made them say.
I was looking for this comment! Shame he didn't mention that in the video.

Fable was something greater than the summ of it's part imo. No singular thing in the game was anything overly special (except the music) but it all somehow fit together to form something quite magical. When I think of Fable, I get a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, it's a very "cozy" game, I still love it.
I agree 👍 makes you feel at home and is great around holidays
Exactly that, you pinned it down really well.
What the fuck is this smudge on my scree- oh

Is that a duck?
I played Fable when I was 14. I didn’t notice the poor writing or story issues present. I was in love with the world they created. The score for the game is still one of the greatest I’ve ever listened to and I still play it from time to time while I work.
Me too! Also this game has some insane replayability for what it is. I've replayed it all a FUCK TON of times and I'd do it again.
Roberto La Barbera I know! It hits the nostalgic feels hard. The OG Fable is still the only playable one to me.

Dank Louai it was also found carved on the guild masters ass “ insert potions and food here”
to be fair, it doesn't say that the hero of oakvale actually did it
it just says that its rumored to have happened shortly after or before the hero went to fight jack a second time
point being its still left ambiguous, and its possible someone else got tired of the guildmasters shit. Though they have LOTS of mentions of the sword of aeons as well.. though that could be just the avos tear (they look similar in shape) but the only thing going for it is really shape.
my guess is its the devs/writers way of trying to be like "this is most likely the canon options" without actually stating as such
also remember in fable theresea mentions multiple worlds and timelines, so its possible some weird multiverse shit is going on, which explains heros in fable 2, and fable 3 jespar even mentions how your father designed something to connect and communicate with these other worlds, with other heroes.
I swear I need fable 2 on my PC
@@DivineXPotato bruh it reads:
"around the time jack of blades was felled by a great hero, there was rumors that the guildmaster was murdered by this same hero. they say the words "your health is low" were carved on the guildmaster's head"

To be fair, it doesn't actually specify that the hero of the first game did it, just that some hero did it.
the weirdest thing about the game is how your character's age is tied to his level. so by the end of the game he was a wrinkle-faced, white-haired old man (still built like a wrestler), but everyone else didn't age one bit.

The most memorable part of Fable was planting an acorn and seeing it grow as time passes.
@Dentou Steam That's just a jab at the bogus claims. Back before it came out Peter Molyneux, the head of the studio, claimed you could do that with an acorn in the original Fable. They made a bunch of different claims that they didn't fulfill for Fable.

Not gonna see a game like that for a long time. I haven't played a game that gave me the feeling of true nostalgia like Fable did when it came out 19 years ago.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is as close as you can get.

Ah, that's why Fable 3 loses steam after the first couple missions.

I used the infinitely spawning enemies during a couple of story moments to get my multiplier over 100
I used to abuse the assassin rush spell when fighting things like trolls, just as they are about to smash the ground, you use assassin rush, and for whatever reason, your character will appear to have taken damage but it actually has no effect on your health. Works great in the arena lol. No sure how well known this is.
Thanks for the tip.
The game is unbalanced in many ways however its pretty irrelevant since its so easy you can just do whatever and win.
Go totally good, then totally evil, maxing out berserker and physical shield.
Combined, it is by far the most broken combo.
The difference between damage per second, and damage per swing.

I thought they explained it in the game that is exactly how magic works. That was how it worked in Fable 3
@@valmaxianelvengod And the reason why there's no heroes anymore in Albion by the time of 3 is because people got tired of jackass heroes eventually and destroyed the old guild.

The sword of aeons/avo’s tear actually deals more DPS than any heavy weapon just because you swing more times per second with it.
No way
Originally, the Jack of Blades sword, named the "Sword of Aeons", caused 550 of damage, but it was later downgraded to 230 of damage in "The Lost Chapters" & this downgraded version was reused for the Anniversary Edition; Its counterpart, named the "Avo's Tear", which has existed since TLC, also causes 230 of damage.
👿 - One of the worst decisions in my opinion. And I’m *totally* not bias.
For real the sword of aeons was soooooooo fucking strong in the og version
It was only strong because it was the end of the game, why not give you an overpowered toy to play with if you decided to play after the credits. Once they lengthened the game they couldn't have you running around with a one handed 550 dmg sword, you would melt everything.
@@LizardHunter777 BULLSHlT! It was OP.. because in the LORE of FABLE, the SWORD OF AEONS, is the weapon that allowed William Black to defeat.. The Court, and becoming the first and greatest Archon of the Old Kingdom!!

Robotron Sage what do you even mean?? It’s the FIRST TIME how tf is he meant to know ahead of time??
"Wear me, wear me and gods will envy your power. Wear me, and the world will bow at your feet. Wear me, and you shall be immortal."
This is what the mask promises you.
Alternatively a good hero throws the mask away, defeating Jack once and for all.
zero18000 4th+5th strongest entities known to man mixed together? Fuck yeah

you forgot the mystical frying pan........its a side quest to find a frying pan for someone in a town or something, but the frying pan is made with mystical properties so at the very end you must toss something in that's mystical not just the sword. so at the very end when you take the sword, switch out the sword for the frying pan and toss that in and it willl think you tossed in the sword. then sit through all the credits, do NOT just hit the x button to skip the credits. once they run through, it'll ask you to continue and you'll play after the last saved point WITH the sword. my faorite bit was augmenting a strong weapon to gather mana energy each time it killed an enemy and then enter berserk mode which gives greater strength and endurance with slightly slower speed (unless you dash). once you max your stats for damage then you one hit monsters in normal but remember you're in berserk mode and since your weapon is refueling your mana you never leave berserk mode while you're continually attacking, sooooo that's why i like going to the grey house and just getting rich cause each monster also drops money so if they are never ending and you are just one hitting with invisibility then you go ham.
