We just returned from a 7 day cruise on Regent. I was pleasantly surprised to find “Plant Based Food” notated on the paper menu’s. Enjoyed 3 different smoothies, one included spinach. So good chickpea pancakes and chickpea fritters. The avocado toast on farmers bread was delicious.
I go out to eat in a restaurant at least twice a month maybe even more with a couple Meet up groups that I have made very good friends with. Most of those people know that I eat plant based so I always look at the menu before I arrive to kind of know my game plan. If anyone questions me especially someone new, I may meet I always say “I come for the people, not the food.” Some of the people, I know, roll their eyes, because they’ve heard me say that before, but I’ve been saying it for years! I’m telling them absolutely the truth! I have so much good food at home, that I really don’t crave a restaurant meal! Before Covid I had another Meetup group I’d like to go with and it was a vegan Meetup group… But since Covid that group has fallen apart because they were arguing on whether you should get a vaccine or not, and it really broke the group apart. Thank you two so very much for what you do!!🥰
Tip #5 is the one for me!! I am disabled and gave up trying to access restaurants more than a decade ago. I miss nothing about them and enjoy the food in my kitchen far more. My friends and I have found other ways to socialize. Great video. Thanks.
I didn't want to eat at restaurants even before I started eating healthy because I knew I could make the same meal at home for $3. My sister was just making fun of me because we just had our first sit down restaurant meal as a family, and my son just turned 3. I'm happy to say most of his meals are made at home.
Our kitchen was recently remodeled, so eating out happened a lot. 😁 I tried to eat as healthy as possible, but even ordering a minestrone soup from that ubiquitous italian-american restaurant was loaded with salt. Thanks for telling people to tip. As a former server/bartender, I hated customers who made a big fuss and hassle, but didn't bother tipping.
Love your channel. I’d love to see a video on “travely” food - food you bring with you when you are running errands for hours, or whenever you think you’ll be away from your house for long enough that you know you will need to eat. Thanks!

My husband & I love going to performances of plays & music. We spend our money on those instead of restaurants. Also, if we do a Sunday matinee there's less temptation to eat out. Many of the downtown restaurants are closed on Sundays. I usually have a meal in the slow cooker waiting for us when we get home.
My omnivore husband (80 years old, healthy, thin, on no meds, perfect labs) sees going out to eat as his entertainment for the week. We only pick restaurants that have a large dinner salad and I bring a ziplock of chickpeas in my purse. I do not need dressing. If we go to a steakhouse (rarely) I order a plain baked potato and a side of steamed veggies. I go for the company, not for the food. I’d rather not go out at all but with almost 30 years of marriage I want him to be happy too. He used to want to go out both weekend nights. I’ve gotten it down to once or once every other week. I’ve been wfpb no sos for almost 11 years.
I am a chef and recently oil free. I added multiple vegan choices to the restaurants menu. While I am conservative with the oil I cook with, the other chefs are not. I'd love to have my own oil free vegan restaurant one day. Let's see
If you're ever in NYC, May Kaidee is a vegan Thai restaurant that can make many of their dishes salt and oil free upon request. They've recently also opened a sister restaurant - Chakra - that is even more SOS-friendly.
Oh my goodness, I had no idea she had a restaurant in NYC! I had a cooking lesson from her in Thailand back in '09... wow, I'm going to have to look into that the next time I go out that way :)
I really like your channel, but I’m a serious traveller and sometimes on the road for months… it’s not so easy then to “not eat out”. There are time when you have to just do your best. Mongolia is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been, but there are almost zero vegetables. I spent over a month on packet noodles and instant oatmeal. I survived just fine and it was completely worth it for the trip of a lifetime. A little flexibility is sometimes essential.
I love all of the tips in this video! I'm contemplating giving up the American diet and going whole food plant based, but my boyfriend would like to stay with his way of eating (very American) so, I've been thinking about what I can do on the very rare (maybe once every few months) occasions that we do go out to eat together. Thank you for making this video!! I'm having a great time binging your videos!!
I'm so grateful for Harlow, a mostly plant-based restaurant in Portland, that has a clearly labeled oil-free main option. Almost certainly still has salt, although it isn't sooo much that it stands out to me. Just steamed kale, beans of the day, and quinoa with a couple sauce options. And the plant-milks they use for smoothies are made in-house and they confirmed with me that they don't add oil or sugar to them. 🙏
We eat out at a buffet or place that offers baked potato and salad bar. Buffet like golden corral, we eat a baked potato, baked sweet potato, with salad veggies and a bit of their cooked cabbage and other cooked veggies that don't have butter, the little salt in those things will season the whole meal. ... There's a restaurant in the Pittsburgh area, ''Eat n Park'' that we order ''naked'' baked potato, with a big bowl (that they use for specialty salads) and the salad bar. We grab our veggies from the salad bar, a splash of wine vinegar, and take that back to the table. In the bowl, take half the potato and cut it up into small pieces and then dump the salad ingredients, add lots of pepper and mix that up. We do that when we go out to do our weekly/bi-weekly shopping, so I don't have to cook after putting everything away.
I’m in Pittsburgh, too, and I love your tips for Eat ‘n Park. Would love you to add any other suggestions you have for this area. Although these tips ARE great, there’s no getting around the fact that it’s hard to socialize when you are avoiding restaurants.
Great subject! My husband likes to eat out Dinner on Friday ( so we do sushi - I get avacado roll and edename ) and Sundays - we go to First Watch as they do have plant based items.I would stay home but I don't cook his food so its a compromise.
In the first year of eating whole food plant exclusive, we rarely ate out. Red Lobster was the extended family restaurant choice at about month six of eating this way, and I planned ahead and ordered the steamed broccoli (2 servings) and baked potato, plain. Now, we eat out on Fridays after we have practiced ballroom for an hour and had an hour lesson. It is at one of 2 Mexican restaurants. Rice, whole black beans, veggies (yes, loaded with oil) minus cheese works as well as I can get food without asking the chef to make veggies without oil. I ask for extra napkins. The wait staff has seen me patting down my veggies to remove excess oil. We eat all other breakfasts, lunches and dinners with food prepared at home. Lately, we've been burning a lot of calories on Dance Fridays with learning and dancing the jive to fast music!
I travel for work a lot. I always opt for sushi, ask for pasta with red sauce and veggies made without oil or I order a big salad with sourdough bread on the side. Steamed veggies and rice with some tofu can usually be done too if you just ask... As a rule of thumb, when I travel all week, one day in that week I will allow myself to order something without any adjustments to try out something new I don't eat at home. If I were to do that every day there is no way I would have the energy to work and make it through the week.
More and more, I turn to you guys for support when I need it. This is one that comes up now and then. Have to remember the "sides" menu. Thanks for this great video... Lynn
Good tips! Especially the last one 😂 I don’t like eating out. I prefer simple easy meals at home. I know what is in my food and it tastes better. Also I have celiac and most often I am sick for days after eating in a restaurant. Cross contamination I suppose. Thanks for all you both do for our community❤️😊
Awesome, spot on tips! Who needs restaurant food when you have Reebs and Sillon show you how to eat healthfully with minimal effort and time spent in the kitchen. You two rock as always, this video is going to be the one I come to when my reserves are low and I have the thought of ordering something. Where I live vegan restaurants serve the greasiest food and anywhere else also is challenging to get oil free, I almost always regret it!
thankfully I always travel with food tasty stuffs to rest' /events with food. I always ask before I eat my foods, explaining why I bring with. Respectfully I have always been met with interest in my food and/or rest' has tried to make a meal or side for me...if so I return to 'said rest' with a verbal thanks to rest' staff. kindness meets kindness...not always but high percentage super positive interest. I rarely eat out to be honest.
Though I make all my own food 98% of the time, I'm happy to occasionally support my local restaurants as, having worked in the industry myself, I know that is the only way some people are paying their bills. It is up to us to make the decisions as to what food we put in our mouths.
Not eating out means giving up some socializing with my friends. I enjoy it and I live alone so it’s nice to be in the company of others. I check out the menus ahead of time, bring my own oil free salad dressing and add ons for salads. I order a meat entree without the meat and ask for extra rice, potato or veggies. Most places are happy to comply.
When I go on vacation, I always make sure to get a room with a kitchenette. I bring precooked seasoned beans, grains, & salad with dressings. I bring white & sweet potatoes to put in the microwave. I also bring salsa & homemade sauces. I have dry oatmeal bags with dried fruit, ground flax & walnuts made up in individual portions ready to just add water & microwave. I bring plant-based milk & coffee creamer. It takes some preplanning, but it's worth the effort. I don't like feeling like I have no control over what I eat at restaurants. The food is expensive, oily, salty & the options are usually very limited.
my best advice for eating out is... "don't." What I do is, I eat a full meal if i'm going out to a place where food is being served. And when i get there, i might sample a bit of this or that, but it amounts to maybe 200 calories, so even if it's greasy crap, it's little harm done...and usually I just have some berries or raw greens in a salad...
My taste buds have changed since eating wfpb. When I go out to eat, I find it not always as satisfying as I thought it would be. I regret spending money on food that was only mediocre. I keep healthy snacks in my bag so I don't get "hangry" or make poor choices when I'm out and about. I also use my diabetes as a reason I can not eat something, and it eliminates a lot of social pressure. A lot of restaurants will give me extra veggies in my meals. I also phone ahead when I can. Planning helps.
That’s so true Reebs! People do not know what we’re talking about. I went to a restaurant that supposedly had vegan choices. It was a farm to table restaurant in a cute resort town in Wisconsin. Their menu marked vegan” dishes with a V. Each one contained an egg🤦🏻♀️. It can be exhausting going to a restaurant but it’s something we do because so much of socialization centers around food. Makes me want to become a hermit.😂 Thanks to both of you for addressing this!
I used to travel for a living, so I ate out exclusively five days a week. Even when I was home on the weekends, I still ate a lot of fast food. I'm retired now, and I'm just beginning to learn how to cook and eat healthy. I can't believe how much money I'm saving, and I feel so much better.
Dr. Esseltyn once said that you just tell the waiter you are allergic to oils. I find that Asian restaurants are fairly easy to eat at. You just asked them to leave the oil out. I find that a lot of chefs are up to the challenge.
My kiddos are 11 & 12 and we go to a restaurant maybe 3 times per year! I loooooove food prep and it's cheaper and it's healthier! Instead, we hit up a coffee shop as our "out eating" around once per month for a (vegan) drink and they feel 'cool' from that.
I haven't been out to eat in years, but on the rare occasions I have, I do treat myself... but don't crazy. Still, the next day usually provides a great reminder why I never eat that way at home!
Great tips! We're a family of 5 adults and we all have different dietary preferences. When we do go out, we like to try places that offer vegetarian or vegan food, and we also like to eat at a buffet so we have more options like salads, soups and sides. We pack our own food like hummus sandwiches, precooked sweet potatoes and vegan burgers, nut mix and whole fruit when we fly and go on long car rides. It's become a way of life for us.
there's this thai restaurant I LOVE!!! Thai Cuisine in Lafayette, Louisiana. I order a tray (yeah a whole tray) of spring rolls, with the rice paper and raw veggies, little strips of tofu inside...omg...only problem is, it's expensive;)
Not if you do it like Peter explains in his comment. Those are just plain ingredients. If you order a veg entree though yes it will be very salty and probably oily too.
@@jasonhsu4711 it can be high sodium, but those spring rolls are salt-free;) Also, a thing I noticed in Thai-owned restaurants, is that they always..ALWAYS...know how to properly steam veggies, or sautee them in mirin or water without oil. I've ordered a large order of the sauteed veggies and mushrooms with those spring rolls, and they really understood and executed well my instructions. The salt was served on the side (a nice dipping sauce based on soy sauce and what looked like sambal oelek. In my experience, the Thai restaurateurs are accustomed to catering to their patrons, whenever possible. However, they're also very honest in telling me they can't do it during peak business hours....If I have a special order like that, I call them as they need an hour of lead time for that. That said, I just about never eat at restaurants because it's SOOOO expensive. My special lunch of spring rolls and veggie mushroom stirfry, easily set me back $60.
A few years ago I made a decision that I would no longer go out for lunch or dinner at a restaurant. I simply didn't and still don't enjoy it. Where I live, there are a lot of cafes, so I can meet up with friends for a herbal tea and not feel uncomfortable not ordering anything to go with it. It makes life so much simpler and cheaper for all of us. I'm relatively new to your channel, but have noticed that you use an Instant Pot fairly regularly. I know they are great timesavers and I did have one once, but was afraid to use it. I've since given it away. A friend had a horrible accident with a pressure cooker years ago and that did it for me. I know they are safer now, but I still can't get past my friend's lifechanging injury. I do use a crockpot, but of course it takes forever to make a meal. I'm not one that likes to cook much anyway and wonder if you have other fast recipes that don't require an Instant Pot. I haven't looked at your full sight yet so please excuse me if you have other recipes that I haven't found on your site that are quick and easy using a pot other than an Instant Pot.
Hi there, we have plenty of super easy and fast recipes that don't require an Instant Pot. You can browse our recipes here on our website, wellyourworld.com/pages/youtube-videos
Eating WFPB SOS free has become SO important to me over the years. Friends say “Oh come on, treat yourself” but to me it is NOT a treat it’s like a punishment ! As Dillon and Reebs said, do other things with friends which don’t involve food. I just won’t compromise any more🤨
This is a little depressive, but it's true. Most restaurants don't care about your health (even those labelling themselves as healthy serve lot's of meat dishes and use oily dressings in salads and sandwiches, and of course there is always salt added to the food as well). I started out my plant-based journey trying to avoid oil, knowing it was the healthiest way to eat, but somehow the oil sneaked it's way back especially after getting a boyfriend that eats vegetarian (and loves his cheese pizzas, eggs and oily foods like chips). I went off the health wagon, and started eating like him to some degree. I want to get back to my healthy starting point again, and I hope my boyfriend's unhealthy habits are not going to affect me this time! Gosh the biggest obstacle to healthy eating is living in a world that don't.
A surprising number of restaurants have peanut butter. Maybe for picky kids, or maybe for a quick snack for the staff. So my goto is a salad with a potato drizzled with peanut butter.
I monthly go to a steakhouse with friends that has a great salad bar and used to get that each time bringing my own dressing, but I realized by the end of the evening that I was very gassy. Finally decided that they must spray something on the greens to keep them fresh or something like that? Now, when I meet these friends there, I order a plain baked potato, and a plain, sweet potato and plain steamed broccoli. They know me as “weird” anyway so they laughed about it the first time. But now we chat for hours, my abnormal eating is normal for me and that works. No gas. 😊
Reebs, I gotta know--I also have purple hair, and I use a shampoo/conditioner combo with tint. Are you dyeing, or tinting? You don't have to tell me if it's a secret 😊
Hey Holly. I usually dye it. I was using a color conditioner called Overtone but then I found out it badly stains the hair. (Found out when I tried to bring some pieces blonde). Which is too bad because I did like that product. But now I just get it dyed.
Great ideas. Eating out is so expensive these days. I’ve always said that Italian is such a rip off for vegans. $15-20 for $4 pasta and tomato sauce with garlic bread you can’t eat. I’d rather eat at home.
Tucson has the Govinda natural foods restaurant where they have a buffet style vegan meals for about 10 dollar a person for lunch / 12 dollar for dinners. It's not perfect, but you can pick you own ingredients , it is vegan (several days a week at least) and not super expensive at all especially since its an all you can eat place. Also it's beautiful! Maybe an idea for a romantic date to take Reebs to? ;) (there is a petting zoo for Luca as well)
Yes pretty cool place. But it was pretty oily when I was there last a few years ago so I wouldn’t really call it compliant. Doesn’t mean I don’t eat that kind of thing once in a while.
@@WellYourWorld hahaha no me neither. But once a year when we fly over to Tucson to be with family it is a lot nicer than all those sport bars they want to go all the time 🤠
Each to their own, but if you’re eating out like 1-6 times per month then it’s really not gonna have any significant impact on your health to not worry too much about how clean the food is. Some people are robots and can eat clean 100.000% of the time, but for a lot/ most people it's probably “healthy” to not be overly obsessed with health at all times.
Be careful with baked potatoes. Our granddaughter works in a steak house, and she told us they coat their baked potatoes in beef fat before they bake them!
Well, i don’t eat out at all. Whenever my extended big family decide to go for korean barbecue, i always end up doing the grilling their meat, fish, chicken, veggies, cracking jokes but not eating. I only go for the social not the eating.
Even if you can evade the oil (big if), I can't stand the saltiness of restaurant/fast food! It's unpalatable. Like hello America, there are so many wonderful spices out there. Branch out my dudes! 😅
My partner loves eating out and eating crap at home. He’s getting fatter and fatter, while I’m eating cleaner and cleaner. I love and care about him, but I know he’s shaving years off his life, and I’m finding it less and less amusing that I have to constantly be researching the “best” restaurants for him, so we both don’t end up eating crapily made crap, versus well made and tasty made crap (if you know what I mean). Hate airing this on the internet with my name but it’s just facts lol.
Chipotles is the only restaurant that I will go to and maybe once every couple of months or so. When I get home I add extra veggies and my homemade sour cream and taco sauce.
No the body does not need salt. The body needs sodium which for normal people is adequately present in whole foods. Humans are roughly 250,000 years old and we only started playing with salt about 5-10 thousand years ago. For almost our entire existence there was no salt. It’s still ok to have some of course, but it’s also easy to overdo it.
It’s true, you do lose the desire to eat out. Never thought I’d think that 15 years ago! Thanks for everything you guys do!
That's awesome Rhonda! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@WellYourWorld Just got my sister switched over, too! She’s already received a WYW order. Now, we hope her kids and hubby come along. 🤞🏻

I am so glad you enjoyed the video and our recipes! Thanks for the kind comment!
thankfully I always travel with food tasty stuffs to rest' /events with food.
AWESOME VIDEO 💪❤ LOVE YOUR TRUTH !!!!!!!!!!!!
I generally get a side salad, baked potato and bring my own dressing. And steamed veggies if they have.
great way to do it
Vacation or business travel - - tuff when you're gone a week, 10 days, 2 weeks, etc etc...

Wow! Cool dad! WTG on giving them the WYW recipes!
my best advice for eating out is...
Those are some great tips Leslie! Keeping healthy food on hand is an awesome way to ensure you are staying on track!
Oh wow... It really can be difficult.
I used to travel for a living, so I ate out exclusively five days a week. Even when I was home on the weekends, I still ate a lot of fast food. I'm retired now, and I'm just beginning to learn how to cook and eat healthy. I can't believe how much money I'm saving, and I feel so much better.
A lot of times, my hubby will order his meal and I get his sides. Works great for us.
That's a wonderful idea, sounds great!
I haven't been out to eat in years, but on the rare occasions I have, I do treat myself... but don't crazy. Still, the next day usually provides a great reminder why I never eat that way at home!
You got that right!
Love you guys and every time I watch your videos makes want to keep going.
Keep it up!
Forgot to add Dr. McDougall's Instant Soups, oatmeal, avocados, popcorn, whole grain bagels and dried fruit.
Buffets are great to pick and choose items!
Thank you for the gem video. You two are beautiful beings.
there's this thai restaurant I LOVE!!! Thai Cuisine in Lafayette, Louisiana. I order a tray (yeah a whole tray) of spring rolls, with the rice paper and raw veggies, little strips of tofu inside...omg...only problem is, it's expensive;)
so.....I try to suggest that restaurant if we're going out...
Isn't Thai food high in sodium?
You both are awesome ! Thank you !
Great tips! Eating out always a struggle!
You can browse our recipes here on our website,
wellyourworld.com/pages/youtube-videos
Well said. I agree with everything said.
Hi! Yeah, we were asked out to dinner with the family but it's luckily it has steamed vegetables and rice! 😊
awesome!
Sides….many places, their sides are what I call ‘brown and tan food’. French fries, fried veggies, mozzarella sticks etc.
Eating WFPB SOS free has become SO important to me over the years. Friends say “Oh come on, treat yourself” but to me it is NOT a treat it’s like a punishment ! As Dillon and Reebs said, do other things with friends which don’t involve food. I just won’t compromise any more🤨
I HATE going out, maybe 2 times a year and it stresses me out 😭
Baked potato can usually be found if you're going for lunch. Top with veggies.
Perfect!!
Making Sweet Potato Curry tonight.
We love our own cooking. No longer like eating out. Too much hidden oils added.
Yum, that sounds amazing!
7:06 Spot on Dylan. Love it
This is a little depressive, but it's true.
Best option: no restaurants. Yes sir!
Keep up the beat! Great video! Many thanks both!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
A surprising number of restaurants have peanut butter. Maybe for picky kids, or maybe for a quick snack for the staff. So my goto is a salad with a potato drizzled with peanut butter.
that's a great tip!
No gas. 😊
Nothing wrong with plain potatoes and broccoli!!
All of it, so true!
Thanks. Excellent tips and awareness that we choose to ignore.
Don't let the Pleasure Principle ruin your tastebuds and health!!!
So true!!
Excellent talk!
I sneak celery into the movie theater!
We are fortunate to have one restaurant about 45 min away salt/oil/sugar free dining. My husband hates it though😅since he’s not even plant based
Haha well that is good for you though!
Great ideas. Eating out is so expensive these days. I’ve always said that Italian is such a rip off for vegans. $15-20 for $4 pasta and tomato sauce with garlic bread you can’t eat. I’d rather eat at home.
Such a good point!
But once a year when we fly over to Tucson to be with family it is a lot nicer than all those sport bars they want to go all the time 🤠
A petting zoo ?
I love you guys!! ❤💚🌱
Great tips for eating out sos WFPB Dillon & Reebs. Love 🥰 the video and love ❤️💕 Dillon & Reebs.
Find the frequency that works for you. It’s not that some people CAN go 100% which is true, it’s that some people must.
Be careful with baked potatoes. Our granddaughter works in a steak house, and she told us they coat their baked potatoes in beef fat before they bake them!
I’ve heard that too, especially at popular chain restaurants. Have to be extremely careful and always ask before ordering 👩🏫
@skoop0808 thank you!
Very good!
More helpful vids like this! I don't care for the rant style. However I love this style! Great tips! 👍
I like tip5 .
Well, i don’t eat out at all. Whenever my extended big family decide to go for korean barbecue, i always end up doing the grilling their meat, fish, chicken, veggies, cracking jokes but not eating. I only go for the social not the eating.
Thank you for this! You feel my pain.
We sure do
Why is oil bad? I'm seeking to understand your view.
Seek by searching our channel. It’s all we talk about. ua-cam.com/video/x8HYyEAllM0/v-deo.html
So it's a good thing then?
When I travel long distance, I usually pack lunches for myself, so I don’t have to stop at fast food places
That's great!
Hi REEBS and Dillon 💖💖💖💖
Hi Valerie!!!
Even if you can evade the oil (big if), I can't stand the saltiness of restaurant/fast food! It's unpalatable. Like hello America, there are so many wonderful spices out there. Branch out my dudes! 😅
I only eat out when I didnt have something first
I miss sweet tomatoes! Bring sweet tomatoes back!
They are opening one in Tucson!
Thanks! Eating out is my Achilles heel
Glad you enjoyed the recipe Kathy!
Yes the cheapest way to eat! When my non-vegan husband and I go out to eat he always says I’m such a cheap date, every time!😄
My partner loves eating out and eating crap at home.
Just realized I wasn’t subscribed! 😱😆😁✅
Chipotles is the only restaurant that I will go to and maybe once every couple of months or so. When I get home I add extra veggies and my homemade sour cream and taco sauce.
Adding your own sauces and more veggies is definitely a good choice!
The body needs salt the problem its processed and people dont eat salt on only a need basis
NOT. WORTH. THE
PAIN IN MY TUMMY AFTERWARDS!!!👎
such a good point!
I wish I was not the lone wolf in my house.
