Thank you for this!! I went vegan two years ago and sadly fell into the “standard American vegan diet” and went off the Whole Foods and started with all the process vegan foods. I’m back to plant based diet (May 19th, 2020) from when I first went vegan and lost 70lbs. I got 100lbs to go and I’m back to the basics. Thank you I needed to hear this. I’m going to binge watch your channel ❤️
I really appreciate this video. I found it so helpful and the way you laid out the information...simple and precise. I'm so sick of hearing about the next weightless craze and how it affects society's health. Thank you for what you're doing!
I’ve watched countless videos about calorie density but your video really clicked with me. It went a bit deeper than the science. The examples about sriracha and cacao, for example really made sense. Thanks for a great video! I have bookmarked this one.
Awesome video! I've sent it to everyone in my family, so they can follow you. I appreciate the simplicity. I've lost 10lbs in 14 days. Thank you for your wisdom and humor!
I do count calories using the my fitness pal app. When I do not, I do not lose weight. The counting keeps the calorie density concept in the forefront of my mind and helps me make the right choices. I find I grow complacent if I don't actively keep track of myself. Once I reach my goal weight, I would like to stop counting, but until then I find it is a useful tool that encourages more veg and fruit and teaches me the calorie density of all the foods I eat. As long as you don't obsess over numbers, I think it is a positive resource and shouldn't be necessarily discouraged. I appreciate all you do for the community!
Great video! So helpful and so simply explained. I initially lost about 10 pounds after going plant based with my husband, and then I stopped and have been stopped for quite a while. Why? All of the reasons you explained, especially adding in non-compliant foods, eating higher density foods, and straying from eating as much from the green part of this chart, so no surprise. My husband lost all of the weight he needed to lose and has managed to keep it off even adding in the plant based “meats” and using olive oil, etc. Then i began eating more of those same things, which negatively affected my goals. Thank you for the reminders about how to successfully achieve the full health I desire. Louise

What a great talk! I have been following whole food program for a month and a week using Dr. Greger's daily dozen as a platform. I FEEL so good i really can't believe it! I enjoy eating again instead of feeling tired, guilty or hungry. I can snack on veggies while i cook and not count calories. All the spices. I just tried black cumin... Your talks inform and relax me. I enjoy listening to your videos so much. Thank you.
You have great recipes, great videos, and a great way of delivering WFPB, SOS-free lessons. I recommend your channel to folks trying to transition to this way of life. PLUS you are so funny and fun!
Thank you SO MUCH for showing how to figure calories per pound!!! This really helped me see how an "innocent" looking thing (one slice of dry sour dough toast-which contains NO oil) is something I need to stay away from!! I was SHOCKED to find out that it is 1,009 calories per pound 😮!!! I've known about the calorie density chart but was struggling to know how to figure calories per pound so I was eating things like this and not realizing just how far above the 600 calories per pound I was going. I thought that without the oil in it, it wouldn't be as bad as "regular" bread. Now I know. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
Dillon, I just found your videos today, and they're awesome. I started with your comparison of Dr Fuhrman and McDougall diets, and you really lifted a burden for me, because I've been agonizing about the very issues you tackled. This video is also spot on! Thank you very much.
Love calorie density. I don't have to eat less. All I have to do is eat healthy starches, vegetables, and some fruit if I want. What's so nice about this is that the foods that are the lowest in calorie density, are also the highest in nutrition. It's a win/win!! Plus, as you show, it all is very tasty. I use red pepper flakes to give my food some zip... therefore don't need to get into the commercial sauces... for now. I get off track too, and wonder what's going on, so it helps to hear it again. It's just important to be aware... for me. Thanks for the reminder.
Thank you Dillon! I have been dousing my food w hot sauce and eating more and more! It was escaping me that the salt was making the food hyper palatable. And, I should know as I am extremely salt sensitive.its always good to hear these concepts reiterated! Thanks again!
I so wish I had been taught this as a kid, but then I was raised on a beef farm with parents that used real butter on any vegetable we ate. Thanks for the video, It's not my first exposure to calorie density, but it was the clearest! Thank you so much. PS: I like the beard - why did you shave it off?
Second time listening. The fog is starting to lift. My biggest a-ha was the adding of salt. It is so true. I have a difficulty of thinking of food as fuel. Someone said each meal should not be a celebration.
Bang on Dillon. Simple and easy to grasp. I grasped this two years ago thank God.I have difficulty explaining how all oils are poison because they are a processed food. They all come back with the olive oil is the only healthy oil and the wonders of the Medeterranium diet. I holiday in Southern Spain all the time and they are all mainly fat! I saw your video with Dr Klapper. Great. I'm hoping you can get that that lovable rogue McDougall on sometime now that he has retired from practice
Fuhrman says that nuts and seeds have such overwhelming benefit that we should always include them. I definitely hear what you're saying with food addictions, though, because I am absolutely the worst food addict I have ever met. However, even I do not think I would be unable to do only flax seed, for instance, adding a tablespoon of ground flax to each meal. Actually, I do better with flax than with avocado or any other fat source. And since fats make us absorb 10 times the number of nutrients and since nutrient adequecy is a factor driving our hunger satiation, too, we definitely want to get in a non-addictive, health-promoting fat like flax or hemp seeds.
I love the way you simplify everything. It makes it more achievable and sustainable. I also enjoy the cooking videos - informative & tasty and they get me laughing at times. Thanks :)
This is excellent advice. I’m 59, vegan 3 years, 50% raw vegan. I am 5 ft 3 in and 170 pounds. I don’t really look fat but have too much tummy weight. I lost 10 pounds of COVID lockdown weight so far just by having a green smoothie each day with chick peas or other beans added and not cheating by ordering pizza. LOL But I have plateaued at 170. I have been having salads with lots of EV olive oil and eating prepackaged sweetened oatmeal plus adding brown sugar. Since drinking the green smoothies, my blood pressure is almost back to normal (135/85). I take no medications. I eat within a 6 hour window.. I walk with my dogs on my property everyday. But it is really hard to lose weight at my age. I’m able to lose a pound every 2 weeks. I am trying to get down to 140. I used to weigh 110-120 in college but I think those days are well behind me now.. I think it will take me about a year from now to get to 140. I like what you said about jumpstarting metabolism with a water fast. I am also going to pull back my eating window to 4 hours. Thanks for all the good advice and knowledge. 🙏
Very well said. I have found that I by watching these videos and becoming more and more acquainted with this Vegan lifestyle I naturally gravitate to the foods that feel good in my body. Perhaps a little more intuitive.I’m not sure.In any case your video is very informative and this is helpful. It is also good to recognize that this is a process and although I have only been Vegan for 7 months now ,my tastes have change. My cravings are almost non existent. It’s a slow progression that not only is transforming my body ,which was pretty fine in the first place, but changing the way I see our planet.,our animals etc....it is such a personal journey for each individual that I really don’t talk about it all that much.I really do appreciate however watching you share your knowledge and your cooking skills. Thank you 🙏😊🇨🇦🕊
I really appreciate your videos. In addition to being very clear and concise you are very objective and constructive. You don't bash or tear other people down to get your message across.
I've just found your channel and YES. No calorie counting, thank goodness, I can not count calories, I get myself in a complete muddle (I'm crap at maths). I've also looked into keto but Ive recently found that putting Murdered animals in my mouth repellent. Absorbing suffering. Its been difficult because I'm so used to the meat veg tatas diet. Dairy is a BIG challenge but I'm getting there. Plus keto is stupid hard especially on a budget. Anyway this is just a perfect, easy to understand channel. 👍👍👍
I've seen this information in several forms, but this was particularly well described! Especially the reasons to be wary of added salty condiments and nuts (nuts send me off the rails big time).
I recently tried carnivore to help me lose weight, it just made be have diarrhea and become super nauseated. I made the decision to go Whole Foods plant based, it’s day 3 and I feel amazing. Definitely had a binge yesterday. Gotta stay away from sour dough bread for awhile and focus on those first 4 bars.
I've been on and off a wfpb diet for about 2 years. I have lost weight but gain some back when I stop eating healthy..of course. A few days ago I began to watch your videos. I had knowledge of the information you shared already, but I felt like I was hearing it for the first time. As a person who always asks why, I gained a deeper appreciation for eating healthy. I feel motivated as never before. Today is day 2 of being back on a wfpb diet and I feel better already. I subscribed to your channel today and I know I can do this. Just wanted to thank you.
You are SO good at explaining calorie density. I really found it helpful as I'm 'plateauing' right now and I've got a handle on it now. Thank you from a Scottish girl from the U.K. I love a lot of your recipes by the way.....only just noticed this was done in 2018! Hope you get it x
Yes, after losing 55.5 pounds in a year, I hit a plateau on the (vegan) 16/8 IM fasting plan even after eliminating added salt and oil. I'm eliminating all starches for 10 days and 6 days in I've lost almost a pound a day so .. changing things up does help. Thanks. 🌹
Thank you for the perfect video that I can share with my family and friends who just don’t understand the concept of a WFPB lifestyle and calorie density. You've made this easy to grasp. 👍👍👍

I have been eating this way for 4 weeks now after over a year of researching it, and getting over the fear of eating carbs. Respectfully...you look very nice with a beard.
Good morning I just got a comment questioning how I feel a year later and I feel freaking awesome....I’ve lost 83lbs and I’m planning on riding my bicycle from Washington DC to Pittsburgh early fall 2021... I could barely even walk a year and a half ago let alone think I could ride a bike haha
I'm currently on my second week of eating whole foods. I LOVE this video it's so simple compared to all the other "diet" plans I've tried and the counting obsession with calories. Thanks for your videos so right on.
I Jess watch this video I loved it. I was telling a friend, that I need to get back to eating like we did in the 70s at our dinner table. The food was much more basic and good.
Thoughts on dried fruit in small amounts to make sauces such as dates? What about a little bit of cashews to make sauces creamy? I have seen recipes using white beans to make sauces creamy but not sure how it will taste?

I am not 100% vegan, but 90% of my diet by weight is whole food plant based. I really look forward to salads, but often many restaurants charge a huge premium for salads. I end up eating at home because of that. By the way, i watched jeff novick's presentation. I love it!
I am morbidly obese and desperately trying to change my LIFESTYLE not a quick diet. This makes the most sense to me and I'm really excited to begin this. The only thing is, it sounds like you're saying if the food taste good then you will over eat. like I said, i'm looking for a LIFESTYLE change...as in FOREVER. I don't want to eat tasteless food FOREVER. I'm still going to try this and continue to look into this so that I can still enjoy my food, just healthy food.
My two cents - what I’ve noticed is when we stop eating processed foods, fresh, whole, natural foods taste far better. We start to crave them. It’s possible that the more processed foods we eat, the longer it will take to clean our systems. I wish you all the best on your journey, Gamma Mghee!
13:01 “You’ve got to avoid them at all costs. They can take your delicious meal of whole starches-400 to 600 calories per pound-and ruin the whole thing by making them closer to 800 calories per pound per pound.

I think I made the mistake in combining rice and beans and corn for enchiladas for example. When I began the WFPBNO lifestyle i was at a good weight...I have since gained a lot. what am I doing wrong
I’m new to this style of eating and am trying to get started 😊 my question is, protein. If I’m focusing on the those first green food groups on the chart how do I get enough protein? If there has already been a video covering this I’m happy to watch it if someone can help. Thanks!!
We have been severely brainwashed about the need for protein. (It started back in the 1950’s). We dont need nearly as much protein as we are taught. Think about it; when is the last time you heard of anyone (even a vegetarian) being diagnosed with a lack of protein??? There’s more than enough protein in veggies and legumes. Mushrooms and brocoli, for example, are very high. In the western world, we consider a typical portion of protein to be 6-8 oz of meat, but in many parts of the world (look up Blue Zones if you are not already familiar with the term), that same piece of meat would feed a family of 4 or 5, and just 1-2 times per week. So, don’t worry about your protein intake…and if it still concerns you, eat a very small amount of nuts per day and gradually cut back.
what about plant-based milks? they are processed but are they calorie-dense? I don't drink a lot but I do consume it at-libitum, I don't pay attention to the quantity. is that ok? thanks for all your videos!
To make this system of eating more affordable, various, what about tofu? I find it difficult to follow the vegan plant based diet, becsuse it's the same every day. So I mix, normal and vegan. I must say I don't need to loose weight s lot. I try to eat healthy. Thanks for your help.

Great vid, one of the best. But you never mention fish or butter or popcorn. Thanx.
You explained this better than anyone I've ever listen to. Thank you!
I’ve watched countless videos about calorie density but your video really clicked with me. It went a bit deeper than the science. The examples about sriracha and cacao, for example really made sense. Thanks for a great video! I have bookmarked this one.
This is the best Weight Loss Advice Video I have ever seen!!! And (sadly) I have seen a lot of them... I'm starting now, wish me luck everyone!
This is by far, probably the best video I have ever seen. I’m going to save this to my Favourites and watch it everyday.
Thank you very much, very kind!
Louise
And Plus My son in-law Mom is a nurse and kept saying you can't eat that Way and her SON and My husband and daughter because she goes by her mom in-law and her husband so it has been a battle to ever get started BUT I am determined I AM going to do it with your help DILLION and REEBS watching you THANK YOU SO MUCH DILLION and REEBS for the help and support you give by caring and sharing so many people need you DILLION and REEBS and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR being on YOU TUBE where I found you THANK YOU 🙂🙂🙂🙂☺️☺️☺️
What a great talk!
Thank you very much! Hope you’ll keep coming back!
I'm just looking at going vegan and this was the best video that I seen on line .thank you.
You’re honestly a genius. You can help thousands of people with this information & you already are. Great information!
OMG! You condensed the book by Dr. McDougall! I loved the visual charts and everything you explained!
This was one of the best explanation videos I’ve seen. Totally puts all the diets out there and how the body works in perspective. Thank you!
I've seen this information in several forms, but this was particularly well described! Especially the reasons to be wary of added salty condiments and nuts (nuts send me off the rails big time).
Keep doing God’s work - you have a unique approach to this so please keep sharing.
THE best, the most informative video on calorie density. Hands down. Succinctly explained. Perfect.
Thanks. 🌹
Eliminating all starches? What did you eat? Did you maintain any weight lost?
You are an excellent teacher...you explain so thoroughly, that you have no stones unturned. Btw, I just became your newest Subbie. Thanks ❤
Thank you for the perfect video that I can share with my family and friends who just don’t understand the concept of a WFPB lifestyle and calorie density. You've made this easy to grasp. 👍👍👍
Amazing video! As everyone else has already stated, I have heard this info many times over, but I have to agree that this was the best and easiest way to understand it. Thank you. I am a subscriber and saved your video!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I'm in transition to this new way of eating. I HATE counting calories! This is so much easier! Once again......Dillon delivers!
Aw thank you so much Amber! So great to hear you are making big changes!
Well said. I have been vegan for 4 years but not losing weight. Time to make some changes.
This is an amazing video! I’ve never seen this guy before, but I will definitely watch him again on an ongoing basis!
Thank you John, check out my newer stuff too about simplification of a plant-based diet.
Well Your World, I will definitely do that! Thank you for your quick response! I’m a amazed and impressed!
Wow this is very interesting. I was doing wrong and I was thinking to stop butter almond but I was not sure. You answered my question. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Diet: Middle English: from Old French diete (noun), dieter (verb), via Latin from Greek diaita *a way of life*.
You rock! What a great role model and KISS teaching method
I needed to be reminded of this. I don’t seem to be losing the weight as fast as I’d like. I know I want to eat whole food plant based for the rest of my life. I have been eating this way for 4 weeks now after over a year of researching it, and getting over the fear of eating carbs. Respectfully...you look very nice with a beard.
This is the type of information to everyone that is interested in a healthy way of eating needs to know, congratulations on a job well done.
Thank you so much for this explanation. It is so helpful as I am starting out on a whole food plant based lifestyle.
Thank You...... Day 23 NO animal products
And how is it going three months down the road?
OMG I am A rock star ….thanks for asking lol.....My husband & I both feel awesome!
Suzie D. Good on you. Congrats and keep it up!
How about 1 year down the road?? 😁🥳
Great explanation better than doctors keep doing videos like this one you can help a lot of people. You have certainly helped me!!!!!!!! I just wanted to say thank you!!!!!!
That means a lot, thank you very much Jeshur!
This was wonderful!!!! In this older video you spoke much slower than on another one of the same subject and we appreciated it as new info takes time for people to absorb. Thank you! Much appreciated!
Hi Heather! I am glad you are enjoying the information! You can always slow down videos on UA-cam in the settings, hope that helps!
@@WellYourWorld wow we didn’t know that!! I just ordered four tshirts and several products as well.
@@heatherangellight8558 No worries, glad I could help! That's awesome! Thank you so much for your purchase, I hope you love your products!
This is great but what about insulin and how fat raises insulin significantly less than carbohydrates? Where’s the balance ?
Brilliant. Very clear, nonsense free and totally to the point. Loved it, thanks a lot.
......Yep, Everything You're saying makes Good Sense----I just cannot do it.....!!!.....LOL.....:).... 🤩🤩🤩
Best explanation I've seen so far on density. Thank you!
This is my go to video for sharing with friends. I've probably shared this video with at least 15 people.
Thank you Angela!
Excellent video. I started following Chef Aj two years ago. Tried her 21 day challenge and lost 12 lbs. Just like that. But I’m on and off again. Trying to get motivated again. Thank you for this video! :)) Time to get back on track!
Been watching your cooking videos for a few days and new to this way of eating watching this particular video has answered a lot of my questions thank you
Really well spoken; calm, clear and rational, you make calorie density a topic that is accessible for everyone to understand 😊
Oh my goodness you look fabulous with a beard. You look so different and much more 'shy' for want of a better word here. You and Reebs are fabulous ❤️
I am not 100% vegan, but 90% of my diet by weight is whole food plant based. I really look forward to salads, but often many restaurants charge a huge premium for salads. I end up eating at home because of that. By the way, i watched jeff novick's presentation. I love it!
Thank you...Great.. straight forward ...no frills..love it
That's how we are here at Well Your World, thanks for watching and commenting!
Read The Starch Solution by Dr. McDougall
13:01 “You’ve got to avoid them at all costs. They can take your delicious meal of whole starches-400 to 600 calories per pound-and ruin the whole thing by making them closer to 800 calories per pound per pound.
John Paradise that is crazy, right?! You think you have a healthy salad but you actually don’t.
This is an awesome video! So clear cut and easy to understand. I started WFPB a few weeks ago but wasn’t losing weight and this explains why. Thanks! On my way to a healthier me!
What camera and lens are you using? Your video is so perfectly focused and crisp, you look like you are popping out of the screen!
It may be my new beard, no? It could be the Canon EOS 80D with 50mm f/1.4 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009XVCZ/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wellyourwor04-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00009XVCZ&linkId=6f671d172f3d38341859682c45cc3bd1
that is bcoz background is out of focus and he is focus.
Or it’s the beard 🤷🏻♀️
Wonderful words about DIET!!!! LOVE IT!!!
I really appreciate the information you share regardless of what you are making, cooking or talking about. You make it very clear. Thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH DILLON for all that AWESOME AND AMAZING INFORMATION
How about making creamy dressings w beans and boiled potatoes like the cheese sauce but less cheesy and less thick.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched a couple of videos on calorie dense food and this was so much easier to understand. I truly appreciate you simplifying the information.
Dillon, I am reposting...I have struggled and gained so much weight back that I lost. What do i need to eat that is lower calorie density?
@@suzanneh4275 Thank you for your Insite!!
what about plant-based milks? they are processed but are they calorie-dense? I don't drink a lot but I do consume it at-libitum, I don't pay attention to the quantity. is that ok? thanks for all your videos!
Is it ok for what?
@@WellYourWorld it is ok to consume it without restrictions like plant foods or is it calorically dense?
To make this system of eating more affordable, various, what about tofu?
I find it difficult to follow the vegan plant based diet, becsuse it's the same every day. So I mix, normal and vegan. I must say
I don't need to loose weight s lot. I try to eat healthy. Thanks for your help.
Abt to go vegan from mostly vegetarian and checking into the doctors/science. This vid was so down-to-earth, simple to understand, & just downright wonderful. Will reference it again & again. Would join FB group but don’t use FB. Thnx for these YT vids. New sub here!
Thank you. Am learning. Need to lose 50 lbs. Have lost at least 40 lbs. Was a size 10 but went up to 230 and stopped weighing. Lost down to 160 and weight slowly creeping back. Now around 190. Lots of issues. Loss of family members, a reaction to an antibiotic, illness injuries, etc. Thank you.
I hope that you succeed Gretchen, I need to lose a similar amount.
