      I don’t ever eat added sugars. Ever. I’m talking white, cane sugar or even brown sugar which is supposedly “healthier.” We get enough sugar from unburned carbs, from fruit, etc. fruit doesn’t make me crave sugar. Eating sugar (even a 1/2 teaspoon in my coffee) makes me crave more sugar...just like a drug addict.

      @@SuzyB0901 I don't really have sugar either but if someone buys me some vegan chocolate I eat it because it was a gift and I'm not trying to loose weight anyway I just eat like it most of the time to feel good. But i don't have an addiction to sugar so if i have some chocolate or something I'm fine with just having that.

    You know I bumped into an old friend the other day and she commented how great I looked. I’ve lost 40 pounds on a plant-based whole food diet. She immediately complained that she had tried the plant-based diet and gained 10 pounds in just a couple months. My response - What the hell were you eating? She obviously had no clue. Seemed confused when I explained how I didn’t eat sugar, oil, processed foods...Amazing how so many people don’t know what I’m talking about when I talk about whole foods. Anyway, I love your videos.

    • @Amanda.c91
      @Amanda.c91 4 роки тому +12

      Mary Hakkinen didn’t eat sugar? This is where the confusion is coming from. Sugar is alllll carbs. STARCH AND FRUIT are sugar! You didn’t eat any apples or bananas or sweet potatoes or rice? C’mon my people, the sugar phobia has to end. End the confusion. A vegan diet will suck if it’s loaded with FATS and oils and salt. But SUGAR is what is needed by every single cell. We must not talk down SUGAR! Carbs are life. Cellular respiration. Done by every cell for day to day function. The reactant is GLUCOSE and the end product is ATP or energy/vitality/functionality. Again, carbs are life.

      Ya when we say sugar we are talking about processed garbage. Obviously no one here is debating whether the body needs carbs/sugars.

    • @valerienoyes1756
      @valerienoyes1756 4 роки тому +7

      @@Amanda.c91 There is a HUGE difference in "sugars". Fructose, sucrose and glucose are not the same thing, nor are they processed the same way in the body. The body has no need or use for fructose and processes it exactly like alcohol. Which is why children today are suffering from non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Watch Dr Lustig's: Sugar-The Bitter Truth.

    Dillon, I just found your videos today, and they're awesome. I started with your comparison of Dr Fuhrman and McDougall diets, and you really lifted a burden for me, because I've been agonizing about the very issues you tackled. This video is also spot on! Thank you very much.

    Love calorie density. I don't have to eat less. All I have to do is eat healthy starches, vegetables, and some fruit if I want. What's so nice about this is that the foods that are the lowest in calorie density, are also the highest in nutrition. It's a win/win!! Plus, as you show, it all is very tasty. I use red pepper flakes to give my food some zip... therefore don't need to get into the commercial sauces... for now. I get off track too, and wonder what's going on, so it helps to hear it again. It's just important to be aware... for me. Thanks for the reminder.

    Thank you SO MUCH for showing how to figure calories per pound!!! This really helped me see how an "innocent" looking thing (one slice of dry sour dough toast-which contains NO oil) is something I need to stay away from!! I was SHOCKED to find out that it is 1,009 calories per pound 😮!!! I've known about the calorie density chart but was struggling to know how to figure calories per pound so I was eating things like this and not realizing just how far above the 600 calories per pound I was going. I thought that without the oil in it, it wouldn't be as bad as "regular" bread. Now I know. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

    Thank you for this! Simplified finally! I learned about the hot sauce and the cocao powder 😲 that would be an area for me to re-examine! 🤦‍♀️😝 thank you!

    I do count calories using the my fitness pal app. When I do not, I do not lose weight. The counting keeps the calorie density concept in the forefront of my mind and helps me make the right choices. I find I grow complacent if I don't actively keep track of myself. Once I reach my goal weight, I would like to stop counting, but until then I find it is a useful tool that encourages more veg and fruit and teaches me the calorie density of all the foods I eat. As long as you don't obsess over numbers, I think it is a positive resource and shouldn't be necessarily discouraged.
    I appreciate all you do for the community!

      Good morning I just got a comment questioning how I feel a year later and I feel freaking awesome....I’ve lost 83lbs and I’m planning on riding my bicycle from Washington DC to Pittsburgh early fall 2021... I could barely even walk a year and a half ago let alone think I could ride a bike haha
