      Cody Stabelfeldt Uh...no. This statement goes against the whole idea of punk/grunge, which is that you don't have to be a special being to play rock music, you just gotta be yourself. Even if "yourself" is just "a guy next door".
      Kurt hated being a Rock Star, and he felt really uncomfortable with the image of a flawless god that a lot of people saw on him. That's one of the reassons that led to his depression.

      +Carson Runyon I guess. But when you think about it hasn't it always been like that? Take a look at Glam Rock, Disco, Pop, etc. There's always been phases of shitty mainstream music and phases of great mainstream music. Of course there are many shitty mainstream artists out there, but there are also plenty of great ones. Take a look at Kendrick Lamar. Arguably the biggest rising musician as of right now and he's a phenomenal artist. Take a look at Royal Blood. Many people considered rock to be dead but then comes along this hard rock band that makes it to #1 on the UK charts with their debut album and is now playing the main stages at festivals. I personally think things will start to turn around within the next 5 years or so. Even if it's not as great as grunge or the alternative boom of the 90s it'll at least be better than what's now

    • @Wiizardii
      @Wiizardii 8 років тому +3

      +Orange Juice W/ No Pulp I think the correct term is mainstream music rather than modern, it's just that we haven't had good mainstream like how Nirvana was in the early 90's in a LONG ASS time, and we won't... Most mainstream music is crap, you have to dig in deep to find good music in times like these, and it's only old hags like me who would listen to that because kids nowadays have different ears. Just imagine if a band came along like Nirvana was with Nevermind, and released an album with amazing music (like Nirvana with Nevermind, lol). That would have blown my mind away.

After that, I've watched a Kurt's/Nirvana's documentary about how Kurt was told as a young, aspiring dude to find his own sound by someone teaching him to play the guitar... After all of that, I came to the conclusion that what makes a great/influential musician is finding his/her sound rather than being epic copying others and BOY! Kurt was/is a standout figure in Rock n' Roll history.

      Like Krist explains right before "Floyd the Barber" at this show, he has dressed up as John Jacobs for Halloween, explaining his fascination of Jacobs' ripping up phone books for god. His T-shirt has the logo of the "Power Team" (god made you to win) of which John Jacobs is the leader. They are christian body builders, running around smashing ice blocks with their heads and "ripping up phone books for god" and other ridiculous stuff. Krist catches some flak from the audience after "plugging" (obviously mocking) them. While The "Power Team"'s deeper agenda remains a mystery to me, it's nice to see Nirvana's liberal values shine through like that, after all Nevermind was initially called "Sheep"....
