I was at this show. We had a terrible time. My friend and I were in the upper decks, yelling at the tops of our lungs "SELL-OUTS!!!" as camera crews surrounded the band. Nevermind was taking off, MTV was playing Teen Spirit nonstop. Our cherished little gem of a Seattle band was going mainstream and it was killing us. Now, 30+ years later I'm so glad they got such a good video recording of this show. I can see in retrospect what a great show it was, and what true legends these guys were. RIP Kurt. Thanks for the memories.

One of the few bands where their live versions are better than studio versions (But, maybe that just goes to show of the bad mixing at the time? Nonetheless they still rock live)
Of all the rock bands in history, I think Nirvana has the most unique sound. Literally it sounds like nothing else. You usually can compare bands of their respective times and say: band A sounds like sound B, at least in songs X and Y. But Nirvana was and remains really something unique.
0:59 Such unbelievable synchronised transition comes with severe disciplined practice ! This is the secret why Nirvana was one the best Live Bands ever !
Yes, you are right they sound extremely synchronized but not because severe disciplined practice, if you listened carefully Cobain made a guitar sign , this means 0.5 seconds before the transition he played harmonic notes that sound really good and the same time, give the exactly time to Dave and Novoselic to change rhythm.
A good friend of my older brother lived in Seattle during this time, and he said they had no clue what they were witnessing, they just liked the music and all happened to dress alike and have long hair lol. He showed me multiple pictures that he took with kurt and Dave when they were nobody's. I told him they're probably worth some money but he said he likes them right where they are in his safe. He wrote in his will that his daughters can only share the pictures to the media if they are desperatly hurting for cash but he wants them kept in the family for generations. Emergency use only hahaha. I feel honored to have seen them.
Anyone ever catch the slip from the wrong chord he has for a split second @1:58? It honestly actually makes the song even better knowing that its human and a reminder of how good they were.
This song is pure genius. The changes from intro into the song are beyond compare and so creative and original there are no words to define this and this song is simply sublime.
A masterclass in composition. They have a lot of amazing songs but for my money, Aneurysm encapsulates perfectly everything that Nirvana became legendary for.
I agree that the song writing here is outstanding. However it is not beyond compare, many alt rock band's we're playing with chord progressions and changes like these years before Nirvana. Check out the Pixies which is one of nirvana's biggest influences. Your depth of knowledge of alt rock must extend out beyond Nirvana before you make posts saying they Are beyond compare...
Cobain was a guitar great. His understanding of ambience and feedback and knowing how to control the dynamics and make it like so shoddy easy. Miss his genius.
Great comment ,People just don’t get it , they think cause he didn’t play the most technical music theory solos he wasn’t good , he got what he needed out of it to fit his music
You nailed it. Something in your comments is asking me to listen solo Lee Ranaldo in the 80s, some Wipers stuff (not the Cobain related), Wire and some works on PiL and Birthday Party. I guess I'm missing a lot on obscure guitar feedback players on this one. Any guesses?
Another point he was able to craft incredible melodies over tonally ambiguous chord sequences. That's some thing incredibly technical guitar players study for years to be able to do and he did it straight off the bat
For people wondering where this footage came from, it was part of the 20th anniversary box set of Nevermind. The footage from the concert was remastered and released on dvd. It used to be an exclusive until independent channels uploaded the footage to UA-cam. I guess the label eventually decided to release it officially. Pretty cool to see though!
@Rowan Melton he doesn't come close? can you hear the song that it's playing on the video? and you will tell me that this isn't creative? then i don't know what it is, just the start of smells like teen spirit could end this all out, of course he's in the top 20 drummers of the 90's, even better he's in the top 5 in my opinion, you saying that people don't have a clue on drumming to say that, why do they have to know? it's the person's taste and it's opinion, and in MY opinion Neil Peart's drumming isn't all that close to the influence that Dave brought to me and I believe to a great amount of people, you can disagree with him, but say he ain know shit about it it's very fucking wrong, he can be a drummer and you don't know it, just my opinion here, don't wanna fight

The harmony section with the bass and guitar is amazing! After the explosion you find yourself in the clouds! But it’s Nirvana so it’s going to explode again and you can’t wait!
the dissonance that somehow works so beautifully is just Nirvana!
This is the most accurate live version of any song I’ve ever seen. Dave’s drumming was really something else. Kurt’s variation of heavy distortion to raw chords is perfectly timed. Kurt’s bass playing is the definition of a back bone. Best b-side to a song, wish it was more popular.
RIP Kurt. Thanks for the memories.
that ''sellout'' shit is some of the dumbest shit fans do lol
Hopefully you also learned to be happy for others who are finding success with their gifts and what they love…
Can you imagine being at this show? My goodness. Lord have mercy
I was too. I was 16
@Ginger111 yeah right
@@allrequiredfields I wish , I was 5 years old
Those people are so fucking lucky
I saw them in Oct 1993.
Kansas City
It was amazing but Even at just 16 yrs old? I could tell something was off with Kurt. Like he was just "dialing it in." Even at that rate it was amazing.
Less than 6 months later, he's dead
I like that Dave's cymbals and hi hats are pretty much as high as they can go and then Krist has his bass as low as it can go
I have the same ones
@TopHatJack I'm pretty sure he used Zildjian Avedis
Kurt went all the way too, buts thats another story, Rip ten 4 rubber duckie.
Oh cymbal stands can go a lot higher, check out John Starnier with Battles 😄
Christopher i got bored once and made all my cymbal stands go as high as possible and it was like 7ft tall or something
One of their most underrated songs
Dave Grohl on drums is mesmerizing
Dave played guitar and
sang since 1994 when
founded his band Foo
Fighters.
The best way I can describe Dave's style of drumming is 'rhythmic violence'.
Proud Gen-X here. This is the music of my generation.
After more than 30 years I still believe Nirvana is one of the coolest things that could happen to the Rock...
Sounds better than their Album version .. what a legend
Live is always the way to go when the band plays real instruments
When artists were able to sing without autotune...
@@snttmstr5248 true!
This is the Album version.
Are you sure it’s not the album version? Kick ass video nonetheless.
Hard to believe this was almost thirty years ago

@@alvarodurand4889 ..i was 18 when kurt died...

Thanks jerk for reminding us were fuckn old.
I *love* the little abstract dance that Krist and Kurt evolved over the years during instrumental sections. Check out different iterations of it at both 0:13 and 3:33.
It's one of countless reasons to watch this timeless high-quality recording.
One of the best songs.... very hot, very insane! ❤️🔥 The people who were in that audience can now die happy .
The fact these three made such a good live band makes me angry as hell that I'll never see them live.
Just thankful this footage exists!
Tell me about it, I was born in 91, I wish I went to one of these concerts
But its still kinda sad that you cant see them live
Yes! I had bought tickets to Lollapalooza in 1994 just to see Nirvana. Concert was in June and he died in April. I was devastated
And I was living in a country consumed by supid pointless war..And could not even go to the neighbouring country (literally) to see then live
One of the few bands where their live versions are better than studio versions (But, maybe that just goes to show of the bad mixing at the time? Nonetheless they still rock live)
Getting goosebumps in the transition. Imagine being in that concert.
@Hunter Vonnegut nothing can replace them bruhhh
These men give me life
Of all the rock bands in history, I think Nirvana has the most unique sound. Literally it sounds like nothing else. You usually can compare bands of their respective times and say: band A sounds like sound B, at least in songs X and Y. But Nirvana was and remains really something unique.
They sound like all they ripped off, and came before them.
@@pierinocb being able to do exactly that takes practice to get right playing in a band
Just know the song, actually...
They weren't practicing much as Kurt's drug use increased. I was just watching an interview with Dave about that. Kurt barely did sound checks.
You are building up something we musicians do very easily. You just bought the hype.
One of the BEST Nirvana songs
I know, for me too.
ThatOneSceneDude im ur 100th like
The best
Nirvana ain't got any bad song
the best, dude
One of the best songs in American History. Aggressive, unhinged, melodic. Real as real gets. Everybody solo.
What he said.
Krist Novoselic's arms are so long his bass drags the ground as he plays.
Haha, agreed
zudemaster hi is huge lumberjack and guitar like ax
Yeah
Krist is such a underrated bassist.
@@ojlover123 he knows his place and plays to it. it takes talent to know when not to play and what not to play
Such a beautiful time.
Aneurysm the definitive edition
This song is pure genius. The changes from intro into the song are beyond compare and so creative and original there are no words to define this and this song is simply sublime.
A masterclass in composition. They have a lot of amazing songs but for my money, Aneurysm encapsulates perfectly everything that Nirvana became legendary for.
Has everything... a mark.
FACT! everytime i play this song the smooth flow in that transition as that bass rolls in reaches deep into my core.
No this is Nirvana
Almost had an aneurysm headbanging to Dave Grohl drumming
A drumming masterclass this performance!
Regardless of genre, this is one of the greatest live vids ever.
I really enjoy the balance of simplicity weighed against intricacy. They definitely knew how to manage their margins. -Regards Patrick Bateman
Hard to believe this wasn't shot yesterday.

Dave is a beast on those drums.
The fact that they’re all good friends or was makes them play
A billion times better
For people wondering where this footage came from, it was part of the 20th anniversary box set of Nevermind. The footage from the concert was remastered and released on dvd. It used to be an exclusive until independent channels uploaded the footage to UA-cam. I guess the label eventually decided to release it officially. Pretty cool to see though!
They just released this on vinyl record too. I found it yesterday at a bookstore and snatched it right up.
what the fuck are you talking about this has been a separate video release for at least 15 years.
@@stella-vu8vh You're right. The footage may have been re-mastered, but the video and audio have been avail for a long time. October 91 Halloween show

How do we watch the whole show?
The bass fills during this song's verses are always just incredible.
Kurt, we needed more songs from you. i wish you had lived longer.
In my opinion, the best version of Aneurysm.
Agreed
i do enjoy the “beat it, beat it,” in the choruses on the original version though
Definitely up there

Dave Grohl is just ridiculous. The Drummer of last 25 years. Just insane. God
This generation's Bonzo.
A lot better at drums than guitar, that's for sure.
@@nmfl100 yep
He should start a band orsm
Pretty impressive reach on Kris. His bass is almost on the floor.
A voice of a generation. Legendary. He left a void in a lot of peoples hearts. He left us hungry.
When music was good
I am a Nirvana Fan over 30 years❤
Now i realise why kurt made this the best perfomance of Aneurysm ever, its cause Tobi Vail, the girl this song was written about is in the audience
Too bad he didn't end up with Tobi. We'd probably have 12 more Nirvana albums at this point.

I remember when i was only 10 years old, when my mom introduced me to Nirvana. I couldn't stop listening to them, I knew every song from Nevermind. I started searching for newer content and I was really confused why didn't they realease new songs and albums, and then my mom said to me "Kurt Cobain isn't with us anymore, neither Nirvana is". Those words crushed me but in the end it made me a more loyal fan and to this day i didn't stop listening to them.

Nirvana's gone, and so Kurt. But their music will never be gone.
Sounds like you had a really kind and generous Mum :)
Are Krist's arms four feet long, or what? The bass is literally at his knees.

Kurt recorded this song at age 23.... unbelievable
How intense should the drum fills be?

Weird that Eddy is the only lead singer left.

Stone Temple Pilots still exists, You can still listen to Nirvana and Soundgarden, Pearl Jam is fine, but old, Alice In Chains also still exists.
Also I was not even in the mind during 1988-2014 , and I’m fine. So stop bragging that you got to see them live and just listen.
I love how much this performance sounds almost identical to the recorded version. It really shows how in the 90s we praised people who were actually musically talented!
sounds better than the studio honestly
i promise they were saying this exact thing about the 1970s in the 1990s. try to enjoy the present as well instead of just idolizing the past, there are a lot of great musical acts today

This is so absurdly well mixed. The vocals, bass, drums and guitar are so perfectly balanced to maximize the impact of each element. All 3 of them are utterly, completely at the top of their game here.
