Starting and lighting for the first time on the Masterbuilt Grill
I am using the Masterbuilt Built Gravity Series 800. The Masterbuilt Gravity Series has a great way to cook similar to an Offset Grill. The cooking area is separate from the combustion chamber on the Masterbuilt Gravity Series giving this Grill lots of cooking area.

Thanks for the tutorial. I really wasn’t getting it from the manual. I couldn’t find the part about removing the slides.
You are going to enjoy this grill.
I missed the slides at first as well and starting beeping at me. It is in the burn off instructions but easy to miss
@@shawnpaley5890 I have done this a few times now.
This grill is not better than a normal grill. It ain't with it
@@ooogabooga4836 Not sure what you mean. What is a normal grill?
Did you have the griddle inside that while seasoning, just the grates or both? Thanks!
The griddle or the grates fit in this grill but not at the same time. I bought the griddle separately. I seasoned the griddle without the grates in the bbq. Use the griddle a lot.
When you increase to 350° after oiling, do you then let it cook for 30 minutes or an hour?
@@JewelShain After the you burn off any factory oils and you clean or coat your grills with vegetable oil you should be good to cook.
@@GregRocheleau in the video, you said to spray with vegetable oil, increase to 350°, and start the heat process again. I didn’t know if that meant the 30 minute heat or an hour or an hour and a half.
@@JewelShain I don’t remember the exact manufacturer recommendation. It wouldn’t hurt to do an hour.
I just picked one up from Home Depot. 800 griddle grill smoker.
Mine has a different hood handle and wheels.
I hope my video helps you. I am loving this grill.
@@GregRocheleau it has. Subbing 👍🏾. Watching videos most of the day.
Great info.... Does anyone leave the Series 800 plugged in all the time or plugged it in each time you use it.
The plug is not very water tight. Unless you are out of the rain I would recommend unplugging it.
Thank you for the video! Good information.
This was a very helpful, quick and to-the-point video! Thank you! A few take-aways from my personal experience (on a 900 series which is essentially no different). 1. Use the Masterbuilt phone app to easily keep an eye on the time and temperature. 2. According to the MP app, the temperature fluctuated from 5-10 degrees. There was really never a solid hold temperature. This is a little concerning when thinking about smoking. 3. There was a fair amount of smoke coming out of the back of the unit. It was more intense at the beginning. Not sure if this is normal or not? 5. Used Kirkland Professional charcoal briquettes for this start up burn.
I have since started using the App, it is very helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
Don’t think I’d worry about that range of fluctuation too much…pretty normal. Tends to even up but can spike when more coals ignite etc
Thank you for posting this! I followed it step by step!
Great to hear, you will love this grill.
Very helpful
In total how long would u say this process took ? 4 hours ?
Yes, I believe it was under 4 hours.
Looks great! I’m surprised the fire starter worked well when it was cut like that! 🎉
I bought some small starters that are on the way. We will see how they do. Paper burns too quickly and may not start the coals. Others starters may put unpleasant smells into the cooking area. For now this looks like the best way to start this grill.
@@GregRocheleau non scented mineral oil soaked cotton balls are my favorite fire starter. Or just a little lighter fluid on the cotton ball, not the charcoal! They sit right on the bars of the charcoal grate.
@@AndyRock1 good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Helpful video - thanks!
Thanks for the feedback
Maybe put fire cup in first😂
That works if the hopper is empty. I actually made a bracket that hangs below the plate under the charcoal hopper. Works great every time.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome vid!
Thank you so much for your feedback Ismael.
How loud is the fan?
It’s quiet. I hear it for a few minutes when you set the temperature. It is still only half the noise of my pellet grill. When it is at temperature, I don’t hear the fan for the rest of the cook. I was impressed how quiet this operates.
