Let's do a first light burn-in and pre-season of the Masterbuilt gravity series 800.
follow along for this easy-to-follow how-to pre-season your grill in this case the Masterbuilt gravity 800+griddle.
As always it's good practice to refer to your manual.
PRE-SEASON GRILL PRIOR TO FIRST USE.
    1. Fill the hopper with charcoal approximately 1/4-1/2 full.
    2. Start grill following the START-UP instructions and set the temperature to 250°F (121°C)
    for 60 minutes.
    3. Set the temperature to 400°F (204°C) for 30 minutes.
    4. Shut down the grill following the SHUTDOWN instructions.
    5. Allow the grill to cool COMPLETELY.
    6. Using a napkin or cloth, rub a light coat of cooking oil on smoke + sear grates, warming/smoking
racks, charcoal grate, and the inside of the grill lid and body.
    7. Repeat steps 3-6 at 350°F
    ** My added Pre-Season
    8. Halfway through re-coat with Veg. Oil (be careful as grill is extremely hot)
    9. After the 30 Min. Re-Coat one more time, Turn Temp to 700F, Once Temp is reached. Shut her down.
    ALL DONE:).... Enjoy!
Frequent seasoning prevents rusting. If rusting
    Start-Up.
    1. REMOVE heat intake and air intake slides. (Refer to assembly step 21.)
    2. Open the hopper lid and hopper ash door.
    • There is a safety switch at each of these doors that will prevent the fan from running when these doors are opened.
    • If charcoal remains from a previous cook, shake the charcoal grate to ensure all ash falls through to the ashtray.
    • Discard any ash from the ashtray.
    3. Fill the hopper with charcoal.
    • Approximately 16 lbs. of charcoal briquettes.
    • Approximately 10 lbs. of lump charcoal.
    • Never use fast light charcoal or lighting fluid.
    • If charcoal slips through the charcoal grate into ashcan, remove before starting.
    4. Place fire starter in charcoal grate and light.
    • Use a food-safe fire starter block or twisted paper towel/paper.
    • Place in the charcoal grate on the fire starter support bars.
    • Use caution and wear protective gloves.
    • Light with a match stick or lighter.
    5. Turn on the controller and set to the desired temperature.
    • Wait 1-2 minutes after lighting the fire starter to ensure the fire starter is fully lit.
    6. Close the hopper lid and ash door.
    • This will activate the fan.
    7. Wait for the grill to reach desired set temperature.
    • Approximately 13 minutes to reach 700°F (370°C).
    • Approximately 7 minutes to reach 225°F (105°C)

One reason i picked a grav vs pellet was points of failure grav has way less
For MB Fan and 3 switches (can bypass switches very easyly) and computer brain
I picked MB due to an active mod/help community .. one recommendation rotate fan so wire is from bottom also for a 3rd party fan replacement

Looking forward to your cooks and your use of the griddle. Looks like smoke is coming out of vents near the temp. Controller. Did they add some additional venting or does the 1050 do this as well?

Tommy what's the mod I can get to prevent coal from dropping ...I just noticed lots of briquts in ash tray

    • @thegalleryBBQ
      @thegalleryBBQ  3 роки тому +1

Masterbuilt has upgraded the ash screen that stops the charcoil from falling through un-burnt. Seems to work good. Have you been to my Facebook group?? I know there are a few work around mods in there.

Tommy is this a one and done action? If not, how often should we season?

    • @thegalleryBBQ

Mostly one and done although sometimes when getting a new pit ill spry it down after every cook for a few cooks.

Have you had any issues with flare ups when grilling?

    • @thegalleryBBQ
      @thegalleryBBQ  3 роки тому +1

No. You just have to be carful on what your cooking and how clean your pit is. If you got say chicken going and that grease falls you may get flare ups.

Nice video,. I am from Germany, I have seen only one video on German YT channels which was showing this kind of grill.
I am a fan of this grill but I want to have some more information about this grill also in Germany.
do you have any contact to Mastbuilt?

Not sure if you have read their replies on this but the liner is made to deteriorate. It is only for holding fire brick on place for shipment. Weird but true.

Tommy, thank you so much for the videos. Between this and the build video you have save me tons of frustration. This is my first pit, so I am super excited, and these videos got me up and running super quick. At the end if the video you mentioned that you didn't think it was necessary to steps 3 through 6 again. Were you just saying that it was worth videoing or actually doing 3 - 6 again at 350? Also a quick question, does the charcoal used make a difference on how much ash comes into the pit? Once again huge thanks and huge props on the video. Are you on Twitter? on more thing "Oh Yeah"

      @thegalleryBBQ  2 роки тому +1

My man. Yes. the more you season on the burn in the better. Also Lump gives you less and a finer ash while some of the other brands like kingsford give you more. Cheers brother and make sure you check out my Holiday giveaway!

whatever you do don't use softwood reason Why Softwoods contain higher levels of air and sap, as they are a pine cone-producing species. So not only does the wood burn extremely fast, which is opposite of the “low and slow” barbecue practice, the flavors can be quite unpleasant and even toxic
