Great job.. looks good. I just did my house with a 20kw so we could have AC (Modulation). Im a mechanical not electrician also. I rate this no more difficult as installing an AC system. Yeah 3/0 isn't easy to minupulate. Yes unbonding a panel is tedious work. Thanks for sharing..stay safe and be well.

Looks very doable by a layman, but, as usual, The Man doesn't want anyone working on or building their own house, so the electric meter into the house is of course closed by a tamper proof seal so that you must go through your local crony network of contractors.

No, you don't want a handyman tinkering with such things. Skill and experience are when things aren't as simple as they appear, which is where handymen unknowingly get into trouble because he won't know he's doing things wrong or how to safely and correctly navigate around pitfalls.
I did handyman electrical work a long time ago, and all was well -- so I thought. Later, he became a career electrician and it became apparent how much I didn't previously know. I agree about politics and money grabs, but some things require someone skilled in the field.

Hey brother so I’ll be installing one for my aunts . On my wiring diagram it just ask for two wires from utility fuse to the generator. All the other wires aren’t even on wiring diagram was yours different ?I seen you used the yellow blue and white.

was the transfer switch hooked up after the meter so you aren't charging yourself for your own generated power. if that was covered I might have missed that with all the unrelated generator portions.

Do you have any overload lockouts? That looks like a small generator to run that Lennox along with the rest of the house.

I am looking at something similar. I will hire licensed electricians and plumbers. Not sure about the permits since we live in an unincorporated jurisdiction. What kind of clearance is required around the generator? I know that min. of 18" from the house but what about the sides? Very good video. It will help me a lot.

I am not sure if regulations change from state to state. I am 18 inches from the house. The 5 foot mentioned in this video is for a working window or door. If the window is fixed, then distance isn't a problem. I have 3 feet between the generator and the AC unit.
My natural gas run is using 3/4 flex line, with shutoffs in the basement and outside. My situation was different than klapenna1's...as I had an old 1950's breaker panel replaced....so my actual downtime was only a few hours as the main panel was in a different location and had been pre-inspected. Consumers came out and rerouted the feed from the pole.
I am running this same 12kw Briggs and Stratton generator...but have the 150 amp xfer switch.

I've got the exact same 200 AMP ATS - mine is not switching power - can you tell me how you wired the control board in the ATS ? Does your generator have the 3 outputs for that (GRD, T/R, 12VDC)?

The 3/0 IS Both.... THHN-2, and THWN...... The THHN- "2" gives it a better rating than standard THHN.

I have been attempting to find what the fuel pressure (propane) should be to my Briggs & Stratton 20 kW I can't find it anywhere if anybody knows I'd appreciate it.

Where are your CTs to tell your system when it looses power? Also what about the control modules?? This is not a hard task at all if you know what your doing why dont you get ahold of some 500 or 250 kcmil!

Watch out! The Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is rated at 200 amps but the generator output is only 100 amps. The ATS is rated for 200 amps because that is the most common max service to a residence.
I had that Briggs 20 KW natural gas generator & 200 amp auto transfer switch installed 6 years ago by professionals. Engine went Tango Uniform in about 6 months. Briggs replaced the engine under warranty. A few weeks later the alternator failed. I went to war with them until they replaced the entire unit under warranty. Had the new one now for 5 years and have it serviced every year. Have had multiple power failures during that time & the gen has operated flawlessly. Still, I would rather have had a Kohler but no local dealers install or service Kohler so I had to go with the Briggs. Didn't want the Generac. Heard too many horror stories about it.

@@sunny71169 That’s me 😂. We are largest Cummins dealer in the nation, install about 1k gensets a year. I’m always curious why people go with other brands I think it’s a price fear…it may be a couple hundred bucks more expensive (depends on who you have install it), but long term reliability means you will save more than that years 3-5,7,10,12…etc etc

I’m sorry it sounds like it could the making of a good video hence the word video it’s not audio video as kids would say show and tell dammit it knew your were planning to make a informational video then maybe you could’ve planned it better by taking the panels off to demonstrate the details 👎 on your video I rather would’ve like to see more of what the heck you were trying to demonstrate in the boxes thanks rated 3 on efforts
