  • Welcome to another Barn find episode of The Late Brake Show, where Jonny Smith unearths an incredibly rare Lamborghini survivor. The car has secretly sat inside a stone barn, abandoned 30 years ago after the owner mysteriously disappeared. This is a British right hand drive Lamborghini Espada, of which only 130 were made (there were over 1200 Espadas in total made between 1968 and 1978).
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.
The mysterious nature of this discovery is just as intriguing as the rarity of the RHD Lamborghini V12, as Jonny learns that the deceased land owner was actually storing the car for a person who paid for several months storage and then never returned. That was over 30 years ago! There was no information in writing about the owner, and the solicitor land owner was left owed for decades of unpaid rent. The traditional stone barn had no windows and sat in a very secretive part of the Lake District, near Kendal.
Amongst the idyllic scenery passers-by would never suspect what may be inside the barn. The Lamborghini was hidden by sheets of wood, a layer of owl droppings and constant darkness. It was also boxed in by a 1990s Vauxhall Cavalier and Calibra, also unclaimed by their original owners.
The Barn find playlist episodes are proudly supported by Adrian Flux insurance, who Jonny has used to insure his own classic, modern and modified vehicles with for many years. Adrian Flux have their own UA-cam channel:

Guy who owned the land said the dude showed up in a hurry, paid a for a few weeks parking in big bills then never came back for it. Think it was eventually scrapped. Never knew what happened to him.

Yeah, the interior is special, but the wiring is astonishing. I've seen the wiring on a car that has been left only 4 years and that was out €400 on a Renault!
But the engine bay of this Espada is just astonishing. The cores of those cables may have deteriorated with age, but I reckon they'll look new with just a damp cloth over them.
I've always had a soft spot for Lambos. Not the new, VAG Lambos, but the completely nutso, "I'll do what I want" Lambos that are not far short of the nutso TVRs, and there's something even more nutso about a 10 year production run that managed on 1200 cars.
I was never convinced by the shapes of the Espada, but this is just so quintessentially original Lamborghini that I can forgive it anything.

Hey Jonny, awesome video! Love the Lambo! Also those Vauxhalls and GM bits, rare stuff for sure. I hope it all gets a home, I mean the Espada will but I hope the others do as well, they're pretty well sought after these days.
I do know of a cool late 60s Ford Thames 309 5cwt van in the Peak district. It's nothing to do with me or my family but we've often looked in on it. It's in a knackered large shed and judging by the old magazines and whatnot around the car it was mothballed in the very early 80s. It's up on blocks of wood and the body is covered in something like Ankor Wax but seems complete and untouched and in pretty good condition given its age and surroundings. If you want any more details I'll happily provide them.
P.s. was this one of Lord Lucan's escape cars?! 😂
    Just utterly brilliant.

The 5 MBP registration was last assigned (or still assigned) to a 1973 Porsche and according to the DVLA was last taxed in 1981 and the V5 logbook was last issued February 1996. Even the plate has a story to tell, never mind the car... Great video, was there any update on what has become of it after it was removed from the barn?
