- When Tom arrived in St. George, UT, he didn't have a single lead to go off of, but using his basic barn finding techniques he begins to cultivate leads. Before you know it we are on our last day and the leads are still pouring in. In this episode of " Barn Find Hunter," Tom finds some unique barn finds where you least expect it.

As far as I can see he isn't a mechanic. He just likes chucking things together so they look like a veehickle and then expects someone else to come along and finish the job.
At least most his cars are inside and not just rotting away in the yard

I just can't get over the fact that the 80 year old man is like he's still in his 20's.
Your only as old as you feel!..and I plan to be to get that far in age and still work on cars...
Says he was a firefighter, probably kept in good shape for a long time.
I know someone just like him, and the guys had more cars than Henry Ford...

My first car was a purple 1970 Charger 318 2 barrel and my brother had a purple 1970 Super Bee 383 4 speed and a 1965 Mustang 289 2 Barrel when we were teenagers. Love old cars, basket cases.
That house is amazing, building your house to fit your collection of runners and non runners, that’s what winning looks like.

Tom what a simply brilliant episode, I am a great fan of your blogs, since I was a kid (I am now 80 yrs young) have had a love affair with American cars, I dont know what it is but I have this fascination with car lighting, And the one I remember so well is the Chevy Impala with those rear synchronising indicators, I believe that the T Bird in late fiftys early 60s had them to? I am an English man living in France, and sad to say do not see to many American cars here. Just to see a Chevy with that rear lighting in action would make my day. Keep up the great work Tom.

Looks to be a 68-70 Beetle with pre-67 front fenders so it's kind of a mish-mash, but if the floor pans are solid who cares. A month worth of weekends and that thing will clean up quite nicely!

If I lived in the USA I'd buy this beetle immediately, you can't even get a bag of rust for that money here in the UK.
@@adamweston4152 heck it's almost to that point in the USA now, every now and again you'll find a great deal, but most of the times you'd spend thousands on a pile of rust and a tube with what looks like floor pans.

@@aaron___6014 Exactly why the 60s Pre chicken tax Ford Econoline trucks are so damn cool! They were meant to be used up, billions made, millions scrapped, maybe thousands left. Sorta makes it special, as it survived.

Today I saw how this guy kept his car cover from blowing off, thank you, during March every year my cover gets blown off no matter what. Gonna try that.

The replacement parts for that bug are dirt cheap in central Mexico, I'm talking 5-10 bucks.
I was thinking for a retirement plan for myself, buying a bus and driving into Mexico with it, driving out restored. Enjoy the world. I live in a car now. So, since I like this so much, I gotta find a way to make travel special again.
I hope to work for you in the mechanical department. I have a great passion for American motors. I love him more than anything in my life. I consider American motors a way of life and cannot live without it.

The tradition of the doodlebug is still alive in Sweden. The legislation that you can drive a tractor from the age of 16 was the death of many Volvo Duetts, being converted to short pickups with solid rear axles, dual gearboxes and a red reflex triangle in the rear. Epa was the swedish name given to doodlebugs from a old discount store. Today Volvo 740s are the most common builds, but with suspension in the rear and speed limiting cutout boxes to the ignition instead of a screaming motor on high revs.

I remember I drove down 80 one time going to CO and there was a whole hillside of old cars going out of Salt Lake City heading east.

I'd drop 900 on that Beetle in a heartbeat. Always wanted one and have been looking for a project. It's a little too far from me here in KS, though. Most of the old VW stuff here either seems to be rotten or priced high, but I guess that comes with the territory.

Easier said than done. Find a project with the best intentions, life has different plans and you can't do it but hold onto it with hope and in the meantime accumulate others as someone discards it or other means. There is never the intention to have multiple unfinished projects but we often overestimate our own ability to get things done....and then of course there are hoarders which I kinda undertand that line of thought too unfortunately lol
Because if they didn't pay for it, nobody would. If they didn't store them, nobody would. And then the cars would be scrapped and end up in EV's or catfood tins.

One of your earlier episodes you were in Midland Texas and the Permian Basin Museum with the Chaparral Gallery...great stuff. We were there recently to see the Chaparrals that I saw as a fifteen year old kid at the now defunct Bridgehampton track. One think I bet you missed was Johnneys BBQ in town. It is the best but next to their parking lot in downtown Midland are two British double decker derelicts sitting there. I have a photo but I'm not sure how to attach it here. If you want a copy of it email me.
If I had the money. I'd buy that beetle and shoehorn a tiny European Ford turbo 4 cylinder and trans into it.
