Watching all your barn find / car cave content Jonny, they all seem to get better and better as your channel has evolved. This collection of Martin's has raised the bar yet again! What a lovely chat and tour around his awesome collection! I love the random nature of the reasons for owning each, and it is a fascinating time capsule of eclectic motoring history!
Lovely to see The Beast in it's new guise - and still being driven as it should!

That Aston DB5, mentioned being owned by the costume designer for the Bond films was a man called Tiny Nicholls. My dad tailored for Tiny in the late 60's - early/mid 70's and made clothing for many of those Bond films, also Star Wars and The Elephant Man and Aliens.....Blew me away seeing this car in this collection! If Dad was still with us, he'd have been chuffed to see that! Amazing!

A couple of my closest friends went to Angouleme and the first thing they talked about was a guy towing a Porsche 962 with a Bentley Blower...so here I was shouting at the screen...it's him, it's him!! What a guy and what a totally off the scale, amazing collection of cars. He has nearly all of my bucket list cars...and better than that he uses them. The best Car Cave you've done Jonny and would love for you to drive every vehicle in there and do a separate episode for each one.
    Mind. Blown.

He’s another Harry Metcalfe but with his own personal brand of auto linguistics and excellent jargon that I will repeat among friends, such as the very early vintage that ‘chats’ to you while driving. Favourites are the red Porsche, the burgundy Aston DB5, Lotus Carlton and the Mercedes out in the snow. What I love about You Tube is coming across a very special vid like this which is a story of one man’s great passion. Remarkable collector.

    Johnny, the MG Maestro Turbo
Was advertised as quicker than a Ferrari, over so many yards.
The police wanted the Lotus Carlton banned because it was faster than the forces helicopter.

Way back in 1973, as my first proper job after leaving university, I became a management trainee with the Dove Group, the British Leyland dealer for Croydon & Wimbledon. For 3 months in mid 1974 I looked after the PDI workshop and the preparation of and fitting accessories to the cars for the customers. I got to drive pretty much all the Rovers, Triumphs and Morrises of that era. Range Rover, Stag, TR6, GT6, Spitfire, T 2000, T 2500PI, Rover 2000/3500, Midget (once, being 6'4", I couldn't get in properly!), MGB, Land Rover, Dolomite, T 1300/1500 and one Land Rover (which had free wheeling hubs fitted as an accessory!). The most fun I had was in the Dolomite Sprint, the Rover 3500S. the Triumph 2500PI (all expected!) and bizarrely, one solitary Marina 1.8.TC. That was very quick and agile because it was so light, and had great suspension. 50 years of memories!

I bought a Messerschmitt three wheeler 44 years ago age just 16 for the princely sum of £15.
i think we managed to get 3 of my mates and me squashed into it one night and drive it.
To go into reverse you started the engine backwards,so it could go as fast backwards as it could forwards,we had great fun on the old disused bit of stoughton aerodrome in Leicestershire.
Incidentally I do remember flooring it going downhill on the way to Melton Mowbray and passing a surprised Capri owner at nearly 75 mph.
You had to be careful opening the lid as I found out one night when I opened it against a lamppost and cracking it.
It went for spares eventually after I ran it into a kerb at a T junction one foggy night
A lot of fun for a 16 year old and my mates
Great show Jonny and ,Martin what an interesting chap and a well deserved collection.

Sounds like it has he Dynastart system to allow the engine to run backwards. Some Bond Minicars (not to be mixed up with Bond Bugs) had the same system to run their Villiers two stroke engines backwards. A school friend had one. Another friend at school back in 1972-73 has a BMW Isetta. There were all sorts of crazy motorbikes and microcars available very cheaply at the time as people were upgrading to "proper" cars.

I was interested to hear the story about how John Dodd was teasing Rolls Royce and that being the reason Rolls was on his case. The story I heard was the German Police called up RR and asked them to stop testing their new model on the Autobahn as it was fucking up their radar traps. John Dodd tweaking RR sounds much more likely.

That is one of the best collection of cars I've ever seen. I'm 67 yrs old I had the Lotus Cortina and the Mexico, my favourite car of the 70's was the Cortina 1600E I just have so many fond memories of that car it makes me smile when I think about it. That is definatley a collection to be proud of, thank you for showing. :)

Im 36 years old and my dream car is a Ford Escort RS1600. The front end is beautiful and the way the back end dances seems alot of fun. I'd love a passenger ride in one, as sadly i don't think I'll ever own one. Keep up the great content ✌️

Lotus Carlton for me. I drove one many times and it never failed to put a big smile on my face. Ask your mate Shakey who he knew years ago that owned one and was mad enough to let his employees loose in it🤣

    Well Johnnie,
That is the car collection of a true motoring hero!
Martin obviously has taste, a very broad taste if we are honest. Set out in a car park, you would have to say the collection is a great event by itself. Fantastic to see the range of cars he has and the attention to detail on each one. The Aston DB5 and Range Rover need to stay as they are and be used.
If he needs people to keep them being used on the roads, I would selflessly volunteer.
What a man, great to see his passion and love for all his cars.

That garage encapsulates my 1960's childhood, and onwards, my dad bought, repaired and sold car. I have been in a lot of those cheaper cars as a passenger and as a driver. Particularly remember, Vitesse, Fuel guzzling 2.5 PI, Mk 1 1.6 GTI and very quick (for the period) 205 1.9 GTI, seeing a SM near Ilchester in the 70's. What a great video and very decent of Martin to allow you access to his collection. 👍👌
