- Is it possible to beat Deus Ex without upgrading any skills or installing gameplay-changing augmentations? Join me on this journey and experience all the trials and tribulations of an entirely basic and unquestionably unimpressive JC Denton as he struggles his way through the excellent story, levels and game design that is Deus Ex.
RIP Bob.
Massive thanks to@Nerbit13098, @hbomberguyand @Civvie11 for making videos that inspired me to have a go at my own gaming challenge content!

I know the game well enough to know that the answer is definitely yes, but I'll never be good enough at the game to do it myself
Nah it wasn’t that bad! But it’s also not as fun as being able to play with augs and upgraded skills. I actually had to play it all over again normally after this run to not feel blasphemous to the game.
20:24 Fun fact, Ppr spray(and fire extinguisher)can also block electricity arcs! Although it may not be as consistent without mods that improve Ppr spray consistency
The free mod of Revision has extinguisher better than ppr spray due to some dead bugs on range vs stagger time.
Paul can’t die in his appt. You can let him kill everything, he’s invincible.
I’m sure I’ve read somewhere if you leave via the window he will not make it 🤔
@@ChrisTries Yeah, I usually just hide his little computer area until the shooting stops and proceed to the door.
@@johntim5293 good strat! Might use that for a pacifist/no damage run, thanks!
how does this only have 200 views? holy shit this is INCREDIBLE. i smell the scent of going viral in ur future
Thank you 😅!
great video. I am going to check your other vids for system shock. they did a new system shock recently and that could be a viable no skills etc run type thing, especially as deus ex is the spiritual successor to the system shock games.
Thank you! I hope my other vids are enjoyable also; I am considering doing videos for the original System Shock, the Remake and probably the Bioshock games too!
Honestly you made a 30 minute long video that was never boring at any point. you deserve way more views. keep this up i hope you make it.
You are honestly too kind! I’m so grateful you’ve taken time out of your day to watch it 😅. I’ll keep making these videos because I enjoy playing the games and I enjoy the editing process, so I’m not going anywhere just yet. But seriously, thanks for watching!
Great fun! Makes me want to play Deus Ex again (although I don’t think I’ll go without the Augmentations…).
It’s certainly more fun with augs 🤣
Ohhhh boy the memories. :) Very well done btw, I really enjoyed this video. Keep on going sir. :)
Thank you 😅! I’m thinking KOTOR2 next 🤔
Really appreciate this challenge run! It definitely looks hard to complete the game without skills, even on the Easiest difficulty. I have some questions on the run:
- From my experience with Deus Ex, even removing the Pistol skill at the start of the game will still give one level of Pistol at the start of the game; Warlockracy and other UA-camrs note this in their videos. Is this a different patched version to take away this bug?
- Another question I had was in relation to sniper rifles. Was there a consideration to take a sniper rifle or scoped pistol to deal with high-durability enemies? (MJ12 Commandos, MIB and WIB agents) Or does the lack of accuracy without skills make their use more prohibitive?
- I've also never seen the skill point loss from destroying passive Walton Simons or the energy bots (noted in the A51 part). I've done the same thing in A51 and never saw a point decrease...is this in a certain patch or modded version of the game, because I've never seen that happen?
Hey thanks for watching! Let me see how best to answer your questions!
So I think for the most part the use of the SHIFTER mod has fixed the pistol skill bug (as it’s clear to see pistols remains untrained throughout) as well as the additional skill point gains/losses I got from certain actions, which wouldn’t grant/remove in ‘vanilla’ DX. As I wasn’t using skills it didn’t matter if I gained extra compared to ‘vanilla’ DX as I wasn’t spending them on skills.
As for scoped combat, the lack of any weapon skills made it quite unbearable, even with the target reticule at its most accurate, the weapon sway was too great for any meaningful use. For the most part I used rockets or melee given their high damage output and/or area of damage effect making accuracy a secondary consideration.
Again thanks for watching and taking the time to engage!
Answering the first question - yes, Shifter fixes that.
This is nice. I like the cosy discipleship vibe about Helios options here. Be blessed.
@@danieltan2869 thanks for watching!
@@ChrisTries You are very entertaining so far. I'm impressed.
@@danieltan2869 thank you, plenty more runs planned and one in the pipeline at the moment, hopefully won’t disappoint!
@@ChrisTries Stay true to your purpose and all these things will be added unto you. Be blessed.
I was looking for a pacifist challenge run, but I guess this is just as good
I’ll probably do a pacifist run eventually 🤔
You mention the swimming skill and then say the game rewards head shots, which is a shifter/biomod thing that removes specifically the swimming skill? The fact they are both talked about within the span of a few seconds makes me think that was on purpose to specifically target Deus Ex no lifes, which it worked. Good video though, I think im going to do a similar challenge once im done playing the game twice.
I think I was just generally talking about the systems in the game. I was using Shifter, true, but for this particular challenge it was neither here nor there 😊. Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it!
You can beat deus ex and deus ex revision without any upgrade, augmentations and without kill with any weapon....just hermann and navarre by killphrase and final boss depend on decision
@@MartinHotay I may go for a pacifist run sometime, might be fun and more challenging. Basically any excuse to play DX again 🤣
This gave me the strength and courage to replay it in realistic difficulty but with augs hehe
Frankly, if and when I go back to DX for more videos, I’ll do the same. Might do something daft, like ‘Spy Drone Aug Only’ run?
8:02 It’s funny because when I die I go back to my saved game just to keep my brother alive . 😢😅😂
Paul is awesome. He must live!
youre a mad man, i love it
@@David-nd4to thank you 😎!
There is a glitch. Even if you downgrade pistols in the creation screen it upgrades it again but gives you the skill points for downgrading.
@@spesago2 this was fixed with Shifter, which I had installed. I show you a few times all my skills are untrained throughout 🤓
I did this years ago, so Yes. I've also beat the game in Matrix mode, in pacifist mode, in modes where I can only use certain classes of weapons, etc.
My question is: can you max out every skill in one playthrough? There's a LOT of skill points to get.
@@silentsnooper3307 hey thanks for commenting! I am certainly open to more DX CYB’s in the future, so would welcome any suggestions from a fellow seasoned player.
@@ChrisTries Beat it in Matrix Mode. It'll be confusing at first, but you'll get used to it. (There's 2 options here, with and without shadows. When you activate the mode, there'll be no shadows, but if you save/reload, it'll load the shadows and the matrix texture...which might make it easier. Either way, it's something no other game I know of has.) I did enjoy the video though!
I’ll see if I can get this to work and how playable it is! Thanks again for watching!
Answer - yes
There's a 1hr 45 speedrun of it on yt somewhere, he also use no weapons or healing or bots
Spoilers 🤣
Yes, because it's when I was a kid I didn't know about skill points lol. Did you augs at the end after figuring them out, lolol
I was a bit like that with Final Fantasy VIII - didn’t get the junction systems at all, struggled all the way to disc four 🙄
11:42 wait a sec, scramble granade turns the bots on player's side, not disable them
Believe me I was just as confused, but hey, it worked either way!
The EMP grenade disables bots.
stopping 30 seconds into the video to install gmdx
@@sergeykolesnik1171 the most reinstalled game!
Yes? That's why Revision has achievements for doing playthrough without any skills leveled or an achievement for beating the game without any augs.
I did this playthrough just today infact, I also did other achievements like completing the game under 10 hours, no weapon upgrades, no healing/recharging from heal/energy bots, and lemme tell ya, it almost makes me hate the game for playing it that way 😅
However it still IS possible, just very tedious and you have to run a lot and use your silenced weapons a lot to distract enemies(I was also doing no stunning enemies achievement and no killing(except Anna Navara) achievement so you can imagine how torturous those 9~ hours were 😅.
Good video nonetheless
Oh man that sounds rough. I recorded over 220GB of footage for the play through I did; I think attempting your way would’ve maxed out my SSD 😂
Great video 😎⚡️
Thank you for watching 🙌!
If you have the raw footage of you playing the game from start to finish, Id watch it
@@convexcornet2169 well sadly that was over 200GB and since been deleted to make way for SS2 and the more recent DXHR - but I may try streaming or long plays one day.. who knows?! Sorry to disappoint!
@@ChrisTries No worries, and thank you for the reply
*watches video*
"Oh man, that was fresh. Wonder what all the comments say- 76 COMMENTS?!"
for real though, this feels like the kind of video that should have thousands of likes and hundreds of comments
Hey thanks so much for watching 😁; I’m just happy knowing those who have watched it had a good time!
Bro I would love to have a voice chat with u and learn more how to play this game and how to progress it would be fun
Well I won’t pretend to be an expert at Deus Ex but I’m always down to geek out about it
i agree
That's weird, I thought you get bumped up to Trained Pistol even if you downgrade it, did you have a mod that changes that?
I think Shifter changed that oversight 🤔
@@ChrisTries oh, you're playing with Shifter? That makes sense then.
I was never properly trained in its operations
Ahahah 🤣I’d say my JC was a failure as far as UNATCO is concerned
Excellent vid
Thank you, and thanks for the sub!
Nooo bob :(
@@RF-INF may he rest in pieces :(
Of course you can, it's deus ex!
And what a journey it was!
If you're committed, you also can finish it with an empty inventory all the time, just using stuff from the environment...
Получилось здорово.
I - uh - yeah..!
how does this only have 600 views?
Probably because I am a complete amatuer 🤣
You can go further with the challenge and play every hub as if every one of them were starting hubs and still beat them.
I am likely to do more severe play throughs in the future, such as no items, no kills etc; feel free to chuck in any ideas!
@@ChrisTries no more reloading when dead, no kills but do sounds to disctract once all enemies, I don't know hahaha I just do not enjoy realistic difficulty as it seems a joke to me.
Hey look, watch this space, I’ll do something along those lines eventually. Thanks for the engagement too! (New video soon by the way…)
Who deletes Deus Ex in the first place?
@@JohnSmith-qh4mi I agree it should be installed by default on every device and un-uninstallable.
How come no saving smuggler?
Honestly I can’t remember if I did or not?! The play though was AGES ago and I obviously didn’t write about every little thing or it would be hours long 🤣. I’ll make sure on future play throughs to save him and incorporate it to the video!
