      "Never know when you might come up against some heavy armor" -- Yup, always take the GEP gun. Both the xbow and the sniper rifle can be found in the 1st level anyway and even if you never spend a point in heavy weapons, the GEP is a useful tool throughout the game.

      The only reason I agree is that the sniper and minicrossbow are both available even before you get to the statue. The minicrossbow is a lot more useful than the gep gun.

    The best advice I can give to any player is to take your time and explore the map. Reading the books and terminals, talking to NPCs, this all immerses you into a very rich world. Deus Ex 1 is not difficult at all so you don't need to upgrade skills nor augs, so just enjoy being in this world!

    Another thing about the AI: They have absolutely no peripheral vision. They can only see what's directly in front of them. And yes, it is as hilariously exploitable as it sounds.

    The Pistol is by far one of the best guns in the game, it OHKO when Trained on Headshots, and with the Laser Mod for it, it becomes easy to take out enemies at any range.

      Agree, the silenced pistol is literally my favorite weapon. With the proper investment you are a headshot machine. Only issue is lack of ammo in the late game. I’ve been enjoying making a fast running super soldier with the GEP gun and plasma gun as well

    some more tips:
    You touched on pepper spray, but it seriously is one of the best tools in the game. It takes one or two puffs of gas to stun an enemy, and you can prefire it as enemies run around a corner so you are completely safe. There are situations where it's better than trying to gun down a mob of enemies. It also allows you to bypass certain laser traps(you can also blow them up with explosives). Pepper spray carried me through the harder Deus Ex mods for sure.
    The GEP Gun is a great AOE lockpick tool as well, but I consider the assault rifle to be an upgrade. 20mm ammo is generally more plentiful, and the AR takes up half the space of a GEP gun. In addition, a low tech build with the strength augment can open up most locked doors with a sword, and almost everything with a DTS. Maxed out you can even chop up cameras and turrets I believe.
    In vanilla, speed enhancement is just OP. It works while crouching which makes you silent, essentially obsoleting silent movement in every way. You can conserve energy by turning on speed, jumping, then turning it off. This is kind of like bunny hopping and is pretty fun to do (for me atleast). Regen is also game breaking in vanilla.
    Rebinding augs is big, I use Z,X,C,V,F,G,B,T and ` for augs. I bind caps lock to deactivate all augs, and H to change ammo. Quick save on page up/ Load on page down which is close to what you have.
    In terms of mods, while the modern launch exe is nice, I still prefer Kenties as it fixes mouse acceleration, UI scaling, and a few other issues in a nice GUI launcher. kentie.net/article/dxguide/
    Deus Ex Transcended is ok for a first playthrough as it's really just fixing bugs and a few desperately needed changes to augs. Mainly making the passive augs actually passive and toning down regen a bit.
    www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-transcended
    You recommend using OpenGL which I do as well, as DX10 has a lot of performance issues for me, DX11 just looks weird and DX9 has some color crushing like you saw. However you should update the renderer with this one. A common problem is the game being too dark, brightness sliders rarely ever work for me so a trick is to disable OneXBlending by typing "preferences" in say chat (default t) then go to Renderer at the bottom, OpenGL, then set it to false.
    www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/dxglr21.zip
    Confix cleans up some interactions that were bugged or had typos.
    www.moddb.com/mods/confix/downloads
    For a second playthrough, Biomod with kill xp removed is a good choice. It rebalances augs and adds fun unique weapons to find in addition to a ton of other changes. I like both Revision and GMDX RSD for different reasons. Vanilla Madder is a really great mod that adds a sizable perk tree with more survival mechanics like food and smell. A lot of mods add mantling but VMD"s crouch jump perk is a much better solution.

      Lots useful advice here.
      I will point out for any new players who don't like bothering with mods that vanilla Deus Ex is perfectly enjoyable once set properly, which is what the video focuses on.
      People who do want mods tend to be determined enough to the point where any input on my side is unneeded.

    • @soliddew
      @soliddew 7 місяців тому

      @@danielsurvivor1372 Hey, I usually don't play vanilla so I had to mess around with the spray there to see how it does. Transcended does make it much more reliable especially at close range. Once I figured out the close range issue in vanilla it was still serviceable. The fart cloud is easy to get stuck on corners so you gotta be careful/lean. I distinctly remember some parts in 2027 where you just get swamped with enemies where holding a corner and baiting enemies to be sprayed was very effective
      Unfortunately it's behavior seems to be tweaked in different mods, so it's not very consistent. But a nice trick that should always work is spraying an enemy, then using them as cover to spray other enemies. It actually leans more into a lethal playstyle because you can jam the pistol in their face for an easy takedown and move to the next.

      Do you have more ideas for keybindings that can feel organic? Your suggestion make me want to put Q and E to leaning, but in my case they are F3 and F12 augs respectively and leaning are "," and "." keys, all other augs being "\ Z X C V F G J", then use Numpad 5 to close all augs, R for reload, Tab for inventory, H for health menu and "U I K O L P" for hud components and + and ÷ for quicksave and quickload.

    nobody ever talks about the eye augmentation. The eye augmentation allows you to fly a camera around corners and down corridors without being seen. When you are done with the little "Ship" it sends down you hit the button and it detonates an EMP blast. That blast gets stronger, and the speed of the camera gets quicker. When fully augmented you can take out any robotic or electronic guards from a huge distance away by flying the ship and igniting it. The last scene, there are two heavy robotic guards in the entrance hallway at the far end, you don't even need to be in the building to take them out this way.

    • @Ryvaken
      @Ryvaken Місяць тому +1

      That's an eye aug in Invisible War. In DX it's a head aug, and it competes against Aggressive Defense, which is a huge survivability choice. Also, taking spy drone means the "activate all augs right now" panic button is not helpful.
      Also the spy drone EMP is a one hit KO to all bots at level 3. Maxing it to level 4 is a waste of upgrades.

    1:35 That's only true for later game enemies, early game enemies don't need you investing a single point in low tech skill to one shot em with baton from behind.
    Also even for later game enemies you can just circle strafe them and keep using baton on their lower back to end them in 2-3 hits

    stick with the prod, it is the most silent way to remove resitance but remember that a headshot is a lethal takedown, sometimes its best to pick them up from a distance so take a sniper rifle and you never know when you come across some heavy armor so a GEP gun might be useful.

    Some notes:
    For Stealth non-lethal players; the tranquilizer dart loaded mini-crossbow does work instantly if you can headshot at master pistol skill due to the x8 multiplier on headshot damage. Also, you forgot gas grenades as a ranged grouped enemy/trap mechanism to incapacitate enemies before you knock them out.
    For stealth lethal players the stealth pistol is actually a worse choice than the normal dart loaded mini crossbow that has nearly double it's damage (15 damage to stealth pistol's 8) meaning you have to be master level in pistol to one shot headshot with the stealth pistol whereas the crossbow can do that completely untrained. The stealth pistol's advantages are on reload time, range and availability of ammunition. Silencer mods can also be applied to the Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle for high damage and high rate of fire quiet force projection respectively.
    For stealth and non-stealth lethal players the Sniper Rifle can be used at Master Level to destroy cameras, turrets and alarm panels.

    I did replay Chaos Theory multiple times just to try for 100% on every level.
    I got 100% on every level but 2 or 3 I think. The only game I've replayed immediately after finishing it, and one of the only games I've ever replayed at all. I actually haven't even replayed Deus Ex, although I should after I finish all those other singleplayer Steam games I have in my library.
    Looking at the games I've ever replayed. Chaos Theory, Half-Life, Stanley's Parable, and one of the HL2 episodes for achievements is about it. I've restarted some games that I got partway through and finished, but those don't count.
    I sunk a shit ton of hours into the Deus Ex Nameless Mod, but since I didn't really get it, plus it is way too long, I got bored and quit.

    This misses out on a LOT to be honest, to the point of advising players away from very good tactics. For one, people definitely use pistols given the basic pistol can headshot from trained level or so. In fact, best option is if anything to take the points out of pistol, put them wherever (or keep them for later), and in vanilla you'll find you started with trained anyway. It's relatively easy to start with advanced pistols pretty early, about on par with leveling low-tech skill. It works as basically a bootleg sniper rifle with only a modest combination of skill and accuracy mods, from far enough out that enemies won't hear the gunshot (negating the main drawback it has over the stealth pistol)
    Second, starting with advanced in computers is actually VERY good, and something you can potentially do from the start of the game. It unlocks the ability to turn turrets against enemies, which is astoundingly broken and you get plenty of opportunities to cheese this. Those things can take on anything up to commandos and light bots pretty much effortlessly, and are very good for creating safe areas to fall back to (the prelude to the cathedral level gives you a good chance).
    It's also worth noting that lockpick and electronics skills can be flat-out ignored in vanilla, IF you're willing to take advantage of an exploit. By starting to unlock the item, hitting the inventory key or other menus that pause the game, then idling for long enough to let the unlocking progress, you can open any level of lock, keypad, etc with only a single pick or multitool.
    GMDX fixes the explit and also locks turrets behind master level computer skill (:

    • @danielsurvivor1372
      @danielsurvivor1372 7 місяців тому +1

      Definitely agree with you about pistols being good skill, especially if you consider the fact that 10 mm probably most common ammo type, and it's very good and forgiving for new players who might miss a lot. But you do lose out on rifles being your cheap lockpick by leveling pistol skill so there are tradeaways.
      Also you're the second blud here promoting advanced computer tf y'all smoking 💀
      There aren't that many turrets around enemies so it's mostly a waste, small robots are already easily defeated by emp and especially lam's, even on untrained explosives skill. I mean if you like the "stealth lethal" type of build Ig it's alright but still just meh

    • @danielsurvivor1372
      @danielsurvivor1372 7 місяців тому +1

      Also not only promoting exploits to ignore skills is 😂 moment but also makes game too easy. It's already a ton of skills that are outright useless(swim) or close to it(healing, environmental training, explosives, heavy in vanilla game, computer on master and maybe advanced)
      That's why despite loving Deus Ex 1, even more than it's sequels, I do wish Skills system was better made 😢

    Minicrossbow: You have not done enough research. First keep in mind for a lot of your demonstrations, NSF troopers have less health than almost all humans, 80 vs 100. That's why some of your demonstrations get the results they do, especially on Liberty Island.
    The tranq dart does damage the way any weapon does, and then the poison damage does recurring damage to the torso. If the enemy succumbs to nonlethal damage, he silently falls to unconscious. That means you can help him along the way by shooting him again, with another dart or possibly with a stealth pistol or silenced sniper in the arm.
    It's been years since I crunched the numbers, but at Master and possibly at Advanced, a headshot is instant and nonlethal to troopers without a stealth bonus.

    2:48 Heavily disagree here about skills being easy to understand
    It's very easy to waste skill points if you don't know their effectiveness.
    For example, computer skill SUCKS beyond trained, advanced only lets you reprogram turrets(and they suck in DX1 compared to Human Revolution where they have wider range of turret movement, they always work and not just when alarm is on, and you can pick up turrets in HR/MD for extra funnies. Master Computer skill doesn't even do anything besides giving you extra time before being kicked off the menu. In HR and MD hacking is way more important for getting the most out of the maps, in DX1, keep computer at trained to spare oh so needed skill points.
    Next, almost NEVER master any skills, only exceptions are Pistol, Rifle and Low Tech, and you only master those if you specifically doing run with their weapons(regular pistol for pistol skill, sniper rifle and/or sabot ammo sawed off shotgun for breaking objectives, and dragon tooth and baton for low tech. Another noob points trap is mastering lockpicking and especially electronics. It's most expensive master skill and it's not worth it, game already provides plenty of lockpicks or explosives to break stuff, and electronics is even worse since it's easy to avoid most electronic security objects and most locks are mechanical not electronic.
    Swim is just, da meme, literally not worth it unless you're build is very straightforward and small and you just don't want to waste time slowly swimming, there's like 2 locations(one in the secret water base where you definitely can't reach hidden ship with no swim skill and another location in Hong Kong flooded district i think is too long to swim)where you need to swim long way and you can either use two rebreathers for it or not care about it.
    Environmental training also pretty pointless even on combat builds since you can't really go rambo in Deus Ex without burning up all ammo so game kinda forces you to always be tactical in your shooting and avoid dmg but Ig you can upgrade it once or twice since it's pretty cheap.
    Heavy and especially explosives is also bad, explosives already do max dmg you need to break toughest breakable objects so you won't cross new thresholds by leveling it and the window to turn off mines is pretty generous even without investing a single point into explosives.
    Heavy skill is only good n fun if you have mods making Plasma rifle good again, besides plasma rifle and Ig flamethrower you really shouldn't be using heavy weapons as main tool, and GEP gun/Law already one shot everything soo... Really kinda niche skill
    Also Healing skill is, again, kinda pointless since ammo is kinda scarce in Deus Ex and enemies give way too few of it, so game insentivises tactical shooting where you avoid dmg.
    So yeah, it IS vital info to know about skills,

      Hi bro, I just downloaded this game on Steam this afternoon, what should I do to play this game for the first time without any mods at all? And if the player chooses semi-stealth, what skills and augmentations should I choose, please tell me. 🙏

      One more thing, I ask for suggestions for keybindings that are comfortable to use.

      Here I am, leveling Demolitions, Environmental Training and Medicine. Medicine at trained effectively doubles your medkits, and lets you save on bioelectrical later on.

    There is only two things new players need to remember. First, use Kenties DX10 renderer (far better option than using OpenGL). Second, drop the Dragon's Tooth when leaving Hong Kong and never pick another one up... it breaks the game. Don't downtrain pistol at char gen... that is juist cheating, the game is easy enough as it is.

    After having beaten this game so many times... I have discovered the real reason why binoculars were designed for the game and how they should be used. It shocks me that no one talks about it. My recomendation: always have one in your inventory, always smoke cigarettes before "flying" to another map, always eat soy in every Lv. Always have some "garbage" in your inventory.

      @@User-s7j5u it is not about stopping them, Unatco and Mj12 have an existence and are doing things before you start playing the game.

    nobody uses pistols? are you mad? One shots most of the enemies, has perfect aim with the laser scope and has the most common type of ammo.

    The VERY annoying thing in all the Deus Ex games, it's that he is as flimsy as cigarette paper. I liked the character from Terminator Dark Fate that could go toe to toe with a Terminator, that's how a bionic man should be, much more durable.

    It's not an easy game I'll admit but c'mon. I beat it without any online guides and I'm garbage!
