    • @annematthews1837
      @annematthews1837 2 роки тому +18

      It was a success. This was a PC project, and at the time the game required a decent mid range gaming PC. Back then, although PC's were light years ahead of the consoles, they were still mainly an office / study machine that you did your emails with and possibly a bit of solitaire.
      Also we don't equate copies sold with quality. If we did, Katy Perry's "ROAR!" would be a masterpiece, while Mozarts Great Mass would be some pulp shit in comparison.
      Just cos Playstation and XBOX sell millions of copies of Tombraider 27, COD 74 and Battlefield 109 ... doesn't make them "good games".

    • @TOASTEngineer
      @TOASTEngineer 3 роки тому +31

      Yup, it's literally just which door you leave through. Nothing else matters. Bring TNT from the hostage situation, kill everyone in the building, but leave through window: Paul dies. Cloak and run past all the attackers, walk through the front door: Paul lives. You can even just hide in the closet or the secret room and let Paul kill everyone his own damn self, he's still got plot armor.

  • @illdoitlater4735
    @illdoitlater4735 3 роки тому +33

    lol, what are you talking about? That isn't Paul's body that is Jojo Fine. Paul is literally flagged as Invincible in the 'Ton hotel fight & you can win it. The real issue with that sequence is the flag which determines the outcome is based on the exit you use. You have to exit through the front door not the window for Paul to survive.
    Also, that isn't what a sequence break is, that is just the game not clearing what JC is carrying after loading, hell the game doesn't even clear your inventory until a second after you are placed in jail meaning you can drop everything & pick it up in prison without having to go pick it up from the MJ12 armoury, which is a sequence break. Which Deus Ex is full of, anytime you use a keycode from your own memory instead of finding it, that's a sequence break, the biggest being entering the restricted area of Versalife with the keycode you get from Tracer Tong before you have ever met him.
    The soundtrack is available with the GOG GOTY version in case anyone wants to find it.
    Even with these errors I was going to thumbs up the video but you didn't kill Louis Pan so gonna have to hit the thumbs down, what a shame.

    Calling this one of the best games ever really isn't an exaggeration, but it's kind of like calling Psycho one of the best films ever.
    If you watch it now so many parts will seem familiar to you because so many other movies were inspired by it.
    Deus Ex is the same. The story, dialogue, level design, quest progression, skill system and the style, and the way it handles player choice have been used in so many other later things.
    None of the have quite managed to do it justice though.
    In truth Deus Ex didn't invent most of those things, it's just the first example I can think of that put them all together so well.

      @@nathanielhaven3453 I still think it's a shame that nobody has modded those gorgeous prerendered cutscenes into the PC version. The intro in particular is downright chilling in the PS2 version.
      I played the PS2 port of Half-Life, but I always got killer headaches playing it. Something about the way it renders angles is just... off, I dunno.

    What’s funny with the Disney reeducation camp joke at the beginning has become somewhat true with Disney supporting anti-Muslim concentration camps in China where they filmed the Mulan remake and thanked the CCP and it’s concentration camps.

    It is not the greatest PC game....
    It is the greatest game of all time across all platforms! 😁👍
    Seriously though. A lot of people overlook the PS2 port, which is a same. Up until recently that port was the only way for me to play it and i never felt I missed out on anything. From the moment I first played it I was hooked. The game is a masterpiece.

      The original was arguably the most immersive. No bs. No tailoring to cod fanboys or anything. It’s like half-life. Timeless. From the sneaking to going full guns blaze it. It had the perfect style and blend of the two. The areas you go we’re both open and enclosed rewarding both types of gameplay. The original actual made you think about where you’re spending your points on levels and such. What weapons you’ll take. How you solve this puzzle or that puzzle. It was a very strategic and difficult game on the higher levels, but rewarding.

    Last I checked the J.C. actually stands for Jesus Christ as Denton was the name of one of the friends of a dev and whenever he would do something odd the dev would say 'Jesus Christ, Denton' and thats how his name came about.

    good review, but you missed a few things like: - guards seeing you through walls
    - guards instantly knowing where you from 50 miles away because you peaked out of cover for 0.0001 seconds
    - guards instntly knowing where you are for no fucking reason at all
    - inconsistant damage
    - the fact that some lasers will be activated if a crate blocks them while others won't
    - camera alert sounds not playing causing me to be detected
    - sometimes the game crashes and deletes all your saves
    - the weapons feel like shit and and stealth is incredibly simplistic and buggy
    - skills vary in usefulness widely, this is emphasized by the scarcity of exp wich means that only a few skills are usefull (those being locpick,
    electronics, rifle, pistol, heavy weapons, and computer, medicine and meele at level1 but not above that so only 2/3 of skills are worth picking)

It is the greatest game ever made.

    let be honest, it was a master piece of the era but it didn't really aged that gracefully apart from the story who's like fine wine.
    it was already an acquired taste back then, and it's perk system was more likely to screw you than allow different style playthrough.
    would most defenetly deserve a remake ala Black Mesa, keeping the spirit and the best part of it but improving both the visuals and the gameplay to more refined standards.

    I remember someone saying that they had only just played Red Dead Redemption 2, and that now no game would ever live up to it.
    I told them that I was envious if that was the best game they had ever played, since I had played the original Deus Ex when I was a kid, and still hadn't found something that was anywhere as good.
    Needless to say, that person was very unhappy that I had the gall to say that a game that released in the year 2000, could be better than a game that came out in 2018 with a budget that's probably ten times higher.
    I know it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges, but I'm serious when I say that Deus Ex is the best game I've ever played. It's not my favourite game of all time, but it's definitely the best game of all time.
