Honestly Junkerqueen just proves how much the junker people have been wrongly ignored of in terms of story. Like this is just so cool, how in this part of the world they went complete mad max. This only strengthens my desire to see a REAL animated short for Junkrat and Roadhog.
Same and not just how they met either. We already read the comic, we watched the short, and the origin of them during their worldwide heist and after they blew up that one guy who framed them for insurance fraud. What's going on with them *NOW* in terms of this story where the chances of a second Omnic crisis is being threatened. Roadhog who lived during it (only to go on a raid on the omnium since the Australian government gave up their home) and junkrat born after it how would they react to something like this?
A LOT of people in the OW universe have been largely ignored for lore content. I still wish to see at least SOME lore where Zenyatta is the main focus.
Junkrat yelling "Junkerqueen" idk just gave me good vibes considering the stuff he did to her to get kicked out I wonder what sort of interaction they will have
@@rekt_yer_nan_darding_5788 consider Australian history with them, one can see why. Omnic war turned Australia into Post Apocalyptic Mad Max/Fallout country. It makes sense why they hate Omni to the guts

I don't like that a lot, feels a bit forced by Activision as to keep the Teen rating. I'm a pacifist myself and believe everything can be solved without violence, but it doesn't fit her character a lot
@@nxt_tim Buddy, did you forget about roadhog, widowmaker, soldier 76, reaper, doomfist, moira and others? Does EVERY character have to be ruthless for ya?
It’s interesting to me that wrecking ball is seen (shown with Hammond out) with her and some of the other Junkers in what appears to be out in what they called the wasteland. Considering in his lore it’s stated that no one knew it was piloted by a hamster, wether that’s just a visual for the short or a relationship that will be explored more in OW2 I’m still curious to see how these two interact with each other.
They make good shorts and cutscenes. Really good ones. It's unfortunate that management has always been garbage, or the games would likely be just as good across the board.
The lore management was also pretty shittily done..everything was just like. Oh new stuff here. Oh we forgot about that old lore? Don't worry about it. God forbid the team gets into controversy cause then they introduce a new secondary character that changes a main character so they can get diversity points without actually putting in effort. Aka Richard I still think they should have used Li(lu? I can't remember the other original founder of overwatch the Chinese male) and had reaper kill him at the Switzerland base giving solider a valid reason to really really hate reaper. But then make it so he wasn't actually dead but crippled like genji but captured by omnics and make his release event the only event you'd need to play first to unlock a character (unlocking for everyone else after the event obviously) where the plot is solider and a team going and saving him from the omnic forces.
my idea is that it would move forward slowly and anyone that gets caught in it starts taking bleed (the scrap cuts them) and then it tosses them out in a random direction
looks can be deceiving. i appreciate junker queen a lot more now after watching. she's looks like a rough person but she's actually empathetic. really liked how she didn't kill anyone in this as well despite being through obvious life or death situations
It would be ridiculously expensive to make a full length movie looking like these cinematics and it would probably take well over 5 years of non stop work. Blizzard (moreso Overwatch) doesnt really have that big of an audience to make up the profit for such a project. Something like Arcane for Overwatch could work though
At first I thought junker queen would just be another ruthless maniac, but this cinematic proved me wrong. It wasn’t her brute strength that turned her into a queen, it was her ability to care and look out for her subjects. Instead of watching over people doing the dirty work for her, she’s there working her hardest as well, while leading her people to the right path
I like that she has good and bad qualities. She is obviously racist towards Omnics, but she is a good leader, and an honorable fighter. She didn't let the other fighters die even though nobody would have blamed her for killing them.
@@tirelessfrog916 Define 'another brute'? OW doesn't have any traditionally brutish characters. Reinhardt is refined like a paladin. Doomfist was the head of a worldwide criminal conglomerate, who managed to break out of a maximum security prison on his own. Roadhog is the brains of the operation of the most successful robberies in the world. And Winston is a.... uh... scientist.
To quote George Ushiromiya from Umineko, "...You spoke of force as a monarch's third power. It looks like you still misunderstand the meaning of that force. In this situation, force doesn't mean hastily wielded violence. It refers to a deterrent, knowledge that if someone opposes the monarch, that person won't get away unharmed."
@Legion Isn't it? These days, every single time a female character does something that is taken for granted and treated as totally normal for *male* characters, there's a vocal part of the internet crying out because some guys are hurt in their stereotypes or something. Curious how nobody would have bat an eye if this character was a dude.
Another character with a great backstory, a fleshed out personality, and a unique fighting style. Seeing her be tactically merciful is really smart, and justifies her rise to being the Queen and why they would choose to follow her.
@@aradiamegido2965 totally, compared to the reinhardt and bastion short, this feels boring. Not that its bad, excellent animation. It just lacks the amazing cinematography and storytelling the others had
@@thog9501 Basically went: "Hey chat! I'm going to join this tournament and third party everyone else to become queen! Woohoo! Like and subscribe!" Yep... Riveting story telling lol
The one thing from Blizzard that has never disappointed me in 25 years, the cinematics. It was always a motivating drive to see the next one and has always been the benchmark that most other games never even attempt to meet, and no one has been doing it for longer.
I agree fully! Blizzard cinematics is what made me buy Warcraft (not wow), Starcraft, (the cinematics for SC2 is my favorite short animations by far), Diablo and fell in love with the OW cinematics after I started watching them after playing the game for a time. Blizzard have an amazing animation philosophy for all their teams. I love it!
Theres always a beautiful moment in these shorts when the animators show off a little. 2:42 when she dodges the knife, reacts, swings, smirks, and they illustrate twisting the wrists to hit him bluntly and not cut are just 10/10. Even here face at "...when I'm queen." Please please make an animated short with Sigma. Please. I'd pay to watch that.
Whoever makes these animated shorts needs to make a full length Overwatch TV series or Movie. They are the best animated visuals i've ever seen for anything ever.
blizzard has an in-house cinematics team, they make every cinematic for overwatch and other blizzard games. almost all other game developer hires animation studios like digic pictures or blur to make cinematics for them.
yes please make a Overwatch tv series and a movie btw I love Tracer Mei Winston Zarya Torbjorn Lucio Reindhart Mercy Ana Genji and Junker Queen she's awesome and the female Mad Max
I like how the details in this animation show just how cowardly Mason is. Not only is he in the middle of the arena, with the most open space, but he’s also higher up than the others, preventing people from reaching him. His giant mech is basically bulletproof, but even with that he still flinches with every attack thrown his way. Truly a coward through and through.
Forget just adding her as a character, i want all of these guys in the game. They made their background characters in the cinematic that interesting. Bravo with this cinematic
I also noticed this difference... in the game, she seems like just a psychopath who enjoys destroying everything, but in the animation, she is intelligent and a natural leader... I wish her persona in the game was like that.
The first time watching this it felt very awkward and cheesy. But after rewatching it, I feel I understand better the interactions between Geiger, Meri and Odessa. The way she gains their trust to fight Mason is very cool to see. I'm also expecting Junker Queen to talk to you as the player while playing as her. Like she talks to some imaginary friend or something. I would love that
Self talking would fit Sigma way more, yet still they didn't add it. So I doubt it will become a thing. Speakkng of Sigma, he really doesn't have a lot of personality 😅
I feel like here, the audience is taking the place of an imaginary friend. Like if they went out in the desert and she was losing her family and started seeing hallucinations that got her through the whole ordeal.
I get why there’ve been fewer animated shorts lately-OW2 is definitely an “all hands on deck” kinda thing, especially now that there’s an official release date-but man does this remind me how good all of these shorts are. I can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store for us.

It’s based largely off Mad Max which has colored a lot of people’s perception of Australia in pop culture. This arena is based off Thunderdome in the third film with Tina Turner.

There's one key difference between Mason Howl and the Junker Queen that ultimately makes her more fitting for the throne, and it all happens at 4:53. A true ruler of a kingdom always puts the protection of their subjects as their first priority... A spectacular short, Overwatch Team! Well done!

Junker queen's backstory is kinda harsh her family was exiled from junker town by the junker king and her parents have kids the junker king is a heartless monster😈 💔
Has anyone else noticed how Junker queen and her equipment have completely changed between the cinematic and in-game? Her shotgun, knife, and axe model are completely different and her outfit has changed a little bit too. They changed her color palette from yellow to red, and made her in-game character design more simplistic.
Simplifying the design in game is done to give them something to monetise since she's not in the game pass. Also, unless I'm mistaken, between the events of this cinematic and the game itself is about a decade.
Oh my gosh, this exceeded my expectations in ways I didn't expect. I didn't expect her to have a sad backstory. I love how she rolls with the punches and takes everything in stride. I can't believe they even gave her an (arguably) noble moral code! So many fakeouts where you'd expect her to kill them. Queen's a deeper personality than I expected. She's better than I ever predicted she'd be. Fantastic stuff from everyone at the OW team!!!
Reminds me of pirate leaders like Ching Shih; they were brutal murderers and arguably sadists but they had a strict moral code/laws to keep their underlings in check while inspiring them

The lore management was also pretty shittily done..everything was just like. Oh new stuff here. Oh we forgot about that old lore? Don't worry about it.
