My #1 favorite thing is when a part of a characters design is actually a gift they received recently, it’s so wholesome and makes you feel happy every time you see it 💗
it's really sad. I almost didn't want to be moved, but then I remembered that despite being employed by a terrible company, there are real people making these, talented, and genuinely caring people who love what they do. people who want to, in all of their power to make people smile, and happy, despite the ever looming shadow over them.
And that's why I've loved this game more than any other. At the end of the day, they inspired me to be a hero too. To be brave enough to tell stories that don't get heard often enough. It's priceless, I owe these random people I've never met my life lmfao
Spoken true. The company is a soulless wretch that exists only to shake down people for money, but there are people who just want to pay their bills and create quality content somewhere within the folds of that amorphous beast we call Blizzard.
Can I just say that I love that they actually use JSL (Japanese Sign Language). It would've been easy to use ASL and most people wouldn't have noticed/cared, but the fact that they put just that much more effort into this short makes me happy.
For a second I was confused and thought they used ESL because i know that those weren't ASL signs after learning it. But, after reading this comment I would not be surprised. Good catch! :)
@@koi-z8s There are even "dialects" and "accents" in sign language. For example, BASL is a variation of ASL that came about among deaf African-Americans because of school segregation in the United States, and gestures & styles of BASL signing are still prominent today in some communities.
i wish the personality they gave kiriko in this short translated over into the game. she's so sweet in the short, yet the most annoying character in the actual game. the soundtrack in this short is so emotional tho, its incredible.
she has that youthful-slacker-in-a-serious-grown-workplace personality which fits her since she’d obviously put on an entirely different manner for her mom, an elder and a child that idolizes her
This cinematic is so heartwarming. it really adds alot of character to kiriko and how much she cares for everyone that she loves. she definitely is a top tier hero
In case anyone missed it, the Hashimoto guy who calls for back up on the phone is a direct call back to the Hanzo and Genji Short. @@EsotericPain Each video pertains to the character they focus around. Most of the characters in the game are adults who have fought in wars, Kiriko is a young adult who is still fairly new to being a hero, so of course she might still be a bit goofy, rather than being battle-hardened like so many of the characters in Overwatch are, but that doesn't mean that she can't be serious when need be, as we saw in the short.
I love that the Kitsune is never physically manifested throughout this whole animation, but you know it's there. These Overwatch shorts are incredible. Pixar used to be this good - which in itself, is upsetting to admit. The roller coaster of emotions in most of these amazing animated stories is staggering.
made my heart soft when kiriko started signing to the little girl, it was so adorable. Along with the great animation and voice acting, it all goes so well together. I love kiriko so much
Yeah! At first I was so shocked that it was JSL (I think it was at least, I know it wasn't ASL) and never ever thought that there would ever be a cinematic where it featured any kind of SL. Kiriko is definitely one of the top tier fleshed out characters imo

Seriously though, Blizzard needs to make an animated series - as long as they maintain a good level of story-telling, these shorts show that they can rival Arcane blow-for-blow
Nah, as good as the animation quality of these is, it does NOT rival arcane's beautiful animation. Arcane just has a certain uniqueness that these don't. Tho they still do both look amazing
@@billnye8760 tbh ofc the cinematic look better, they’re choreographed to be cool. But if you actually play the game unranked with no toxic players its actually quite fun and you actually do feel like a badass at times.

This short alone makes me love this character. The passion, the animation, the music, even the story is just all on point. Also when kiriko used her ult I got chills all over, the one thing I love about these shorts is that they always give me chills
Imagine an Overwatch series, hour per episode, and each one focuses on the story of a different hero or heroes (some work together from origin, like Genji and Hanzo) and the finale of Season 1 brings them all together… that would be perfect! YOU SAW HOW ARCANE AND EDGERUNNERS TURNED OUT, BLIZZARD. THIS IS EZ PROFIT AND MARKETING.
I probably wouldn't spend hours of my life watching cartoons about video game characters. Arcane was good but I watched maybe 2 or 3 episodes and got bored of the story. Never finished it. Good animation isn't enough to occupy my attention.
they'd have to divide over multiple seasons. 36 episodes would be a lot for one season. so this would work pretty well if it was an origin story show kinda
I love the sign language conversations they have. I certainly wouldn't mind having more movies with deaf people in it. Seeing sign language animated is so cool.
The dragon prince has some of it in there! If you like animated series like Avatar or Gravity falls I'd highly recommend checking that one out as well :)
@@nexusprime2487 I'm pretty sure the point is the people doing the animation *now* are doing a fantastic job. the art style has to remain consistent, they would never pick the team that did arcane
you should watch arcane : bridging the rift. making a show is a whole different thing compared to clips. unless baby kotick is generous enough to fund a passion project, it will never happen.
Kind of want a mission involving Kiriko, Genji, and Hanzo fighting the Hashimoto in Kanazaka. It would make for an epic reunion and a nice way getting them together to face an enemy that they have a history with.
I remember when this first came out and I watched it for the first time and it was sensational, now almost a year has passed and watching my baby kiriko still hits the same, time really does fly ❤️

@@SaneStreet No. Those two games are not compareable. Overwatch is known for it's animations for YEARS. Cyberpunk is a fresh franchise, besides, if it follows the animation's style, it will be a 3D animated movie, not an anime wannabe.
You're not wrong, but I would suggest watching the making of Arcane. It's not as simple as "just make a show." Even for a company as large as Riot it was nearly a disaster, and I would argue that Riot is much more successful than Blizzard. I mean, just take a look at the World of Warcraft movie.
I am not saying the team doesn't have talent, I'm just saying they are wasting their potential by sticking them to cosmetics and emotes for most of the time. They should pull a Riot Games (I hate saying that name out loud) and let their creative team make their own series based on the Overwatch universe. There's so much potential for it.
5:36 Increidble voice acting that conveys so much about this dudes character, we'll never see him again but things like this just add so much depth to these shorts.
That's what I have been saying. She would benefit big time from having her own mini-series. The show would be mainly CGI, but I could also see short, narrated flashbacks be done with anime-style art. But I also have a bad feeling that Talon comes in to take Kanezaka once the Hashimoto are cleared out.
100% agree. Instead of raking in the money from her skins in OW maybe make a new game. I'd love her as the main character and from what I know she is even more popular in Japan.
I think the highest honor goes to the team animating these shorts. They create them with love and passion, and I would be extremely honored if I would be a part of the creation. If they ever make a movie out of this, it's gonna be an Oscar winner guaranteed.
They cant earn an oscar from this. they have to meet certain political goals. I wish I was joking. X amount of time displaying LGTBTQ yada-yada. must have an ethnic minority as the main role, should feature at least 2 homosexual themes/relationships. If the creators of these shorts created a movie... I'd hope its to make a good film instead of check boxes.
@@betatestedyourgf8091 I don’t think that’s an actual thing. Besides, even if it was true, they’d meet those standards with Tracer and Soldier. Edit: just googled it, you’re actually right about the requirements, so sorry about that. Then still, my point stands
@@tomdejong6028 aye. It sucks. But I'd rather they go for making a good film rather than checking boxes. Overwatch is good because its lore blended well. The characters and story were already established and developed. But when you have real life drama injected into it and characters are drastically changed for the sake of virtue signaling... It ruins the creative vision of the writers and animators. It sucks
It's interesting that her "ult" almost seemed to make them get this immense adrenaline rush, and then they became shocked after it was over. There were moments where she became way more frightening than I gave her credit for, which fits the kitsune theming, like here briefly popping into existence behind them. Overall, I dug it.
No kidding the old man and scared girl turned into some sort of zombies. She let the little girl nearly split a mans head open. Overall alot darker then i thought
The game itself may face its ups and down, but Blizzard's animation team NEVER misses. If one of these reach movie length, it WILL win an Oscar for best animated picture
The old cinematics was much better. They told the stories of the characters. They revealed the characters' past and they interactions with each other. But here Kiriko is strong simply because she is strong. She just comes to beat the bad guys and everyone is happy.
