Crazy how much VR has evolved, i remember thinking it would take forever for there to be a headset like the quest 2. I still have my pre ordered htc vive.
+Melinon Not really. Valve is willing to work with any headset manufacturers, HTC just happens to be the first one that wants to cooperate with them unlike facebook.
I remember in 2020 starting in a tech class where they had an old htc vive full set up. This my first time using the vr headset completely but about two years later & graduated from that high school tech class & I'm still craving the old htc vive feeling.
The Vive is going to compete with Oculus Rift once its polished? Wait, isnt that the other way around? Oculus Rift doesnt even have hand trackers for sale yet, while Vive have excellent tracking, and above all, a large volume for you to move around in, also much more solid and portable head tracking, a REAL software platform through Steam. How can the Rift even compete with this?
+blackmagic x She was talking about the actual headset, not the experience you get with the headset. The rift is more comfortable and polished but less advanced. The Vive is more advanced but is less comfortable and polished. Also Oculus Home is more simple, intuitive and focused than Steam VR, which could be good or bad depending on your personal experience. It sounds like she is arguing that the Vive does have some advantages over the Rift, but these advantages will be negligible once the touch controls are released. But if you are someone who doesn't want to wait for room scale with motion controllers, Vive is your best option for now.
+Jody Brennan I think we can agree that the Oculus is more ergonomic. For a polished experience, i dont know if I agree. The tracking system that Vive uses is far superior to Oculus (camera based tracking) and is less glitchy. Large tracking volume will not be negligible just because Rift gets hand tracking, especially as hand tracking isnt for seated experience.
blackmagic x That's what I said. The Rift's headset itself is better than the Vive but the technology (tracking) is less advanced. However, for the majority of users, the tracking will be identical between both Vive and Rift because the play area for most users will be small enough that the Vive's superior tracking won't actually make a difference. It's like having a car with 450 horsepower and a car with 500 horsepower. Sure, one is technically better than the other but most people will never be in a situation where they can take advantage of that extra horsepower.
+Jody Brennan Okay. But until Rift have hand tracking and two cameras to allow a larger volume its quite a bigger difference than that. And for a Rift user to pay for all that they will have paid more or the same as a Vive anyway... i wouldnt choose the Rift unless I knew i would be seated all the time and uninterested in exploring VR in bigger depth.
"No one has figured out exactly what to do with it" Seriously? Tons of people have done some downright amazing things with it. There hasn't been this much innovation in gaming in a long time. You're crazy.
Nice review. The simple fact that Adi doesn't sound like a cynic douchebag - she actually sounds like she enjoys stuff and is hyped for things! - makes this review a thousand times more watchable. Also, clumsy as fuck :D More Adi videos, please.
Watch the "Tested" review if you want to know how the Vive actually works... This review tells you nothing you need to know except a timelaps for setup.
Thanks for an honest review of the Vive. Until now I hadn't heard anyone say anything other than praise for it, its nice to know where it has room to improve.
+Jordi Santini I would supplement this review with the video review on Tested or the text review on Tom's Hardware. This reviewer left a *lot* of information out in an attempt to be short. Fine if you are just passing through, but if you are in the market for a Vive, there are far better resources out there.
Is that her apartment? like her actual home? that's a really nice apartment, I like the way the living room is set up. Also, I would totally buy a vive, but it's $1,149.00 in Canada, and that's way too expensive, that's like half a pay check and for many people an entire paycheck or more, I could buy a motorcycle for that amount of money.
I used this in a mall a few times for about an hour of total use. It has come a LONG way but has a LONG way to go. Paired with a kick ass alienware this headset really gives you amazing VR experience. We are talking FPS indistinguishable from reality. But of course, the quality isn't quite there. Whoever buys these early VR's is going to hate themselves. These little guys will be 100X better in about a year or so. But find your nearest microsoft store and try this.
Great review..!! Very informative too.. i was curious about this product and Adi talks about everything in the right amount of details.. Thanks!! I like the short oops clips that u guys are adding to every video at the end.. They are fun.. The Verge's video team is the best!!
That front facing camera is a huge plus, however, I would kind of like an AR view that glows when you're about to hit something. You hear me Valve? I feel it would prevent incidents like the blooper in the video.
Total encapsulated helmet for VR technology, with special futures like air wave technology, voice interactions, wind, air smell, and temperature detection in a simulated world. The helmet will correspond with the gaming experience.
This seems like a huge difference in expectations than what the Oculus Rift has in the immediate future. I want to be able to walk around and feel like I'm in the world and it looks like now ONLY the Vive can provide that. But what about the reverse? Oculus is suposed to have very precise rotation so when you are sitting down it feels very 1:1. Does the Vive also have this precision or is that the caveat to making your whole room a part of the game?
+piclemaniscool tracking is smooth on both, but VIVE has the advantage here. Oculus uses a single directional camera with a cone view in front of it, and not really ideal for tracking anything that's not immediately in front of it. In other words, Vive can do what Oculus can, but not vice versa. Oculus's advantage is primarily its price, polished aesthetics, and having a different set of library of games. Obviously the latter may not be a long term advantage, as profiles will likely be built for both systems eventually. I'm not saying the Vive will be a clear winner from here on though, as Rift can definitely improve in the next versions, and Rift Touch will close the gap between the two products by a little.
My biggest question would be the effects of long-term sessions. I know that all headsets have improved tremendously in reducing eye fatigue, but what about perception? I hear of people who have difficulty with depth perception and an unclear sense of space outside of VR after extended use, having to wait before their brains readjust to the normal world. I haven't heard much else about it lately but I'm wondering if this is still a problem.
Of all these reviews of Rift and Vive online, I just want to see reviewers to play some flight or space sims like DCS A-10 or Elite Dangerous and some racing sims like Assetto Corsa or Project Cars. Hell, I'd be happy with a Team Fortress 2 experience. A lot of these games have support already. I want to know how these headsets enhance what I already have (a major selling point).
pretty sure thats the point of the sponge? to soak up sweat? having leather pads that arent breathable is mightly uncomfortable and would probably trap moisture and fog up the lenses. Unless your ire is the fact that you cant take it off to wash it I cant see it as a problem.
+Charles Liu I agree it seemed like they are Biased towards the Oculus. Maybe they are somehow partnered with Oculus or FB.. but then again im just speculating so who knows. like someone else said in these comments oculus=IOS vive= Android.
This first gen of VR is a bit lacklustre so far. I'm probably going to hold out until the second gen, or at most get the Sony VR headset when that comes out
+invalidusername Instead of using mounted cameras, I want them to use real time tracking like the microsoft holo lense. That way, your game space isn't restricted. Moreover, wireless headsets are almost paramount if they wish to make any headway in the consumer market.
Nice review. It's still early days for VR. It's hard to be patient and not buy the Vive or Oculus just yet. Especially when I already have a VR ready gaming PC (i7-6700k/980Ti).
So basically, I need some sort of higher place to put the lighthouses ontop of? Good that I have basically not a single spot like that in my room. And then there is the power supply issue.... damn Im gonna need more cables.
I think VR gaming will pick up steam over the next years as VR and AR interactions will bring a new user experience for people who use the internet and want to see different worlds. Ironically it kind of makes perfect sense for us to be using VR with Covid19 shutting down the real world.
+Corrosive www.asus.com/Tower-PCs/ROG-G20CB-Oculus-Ready/ I think this is the one they used, so it could be using a 970 or 980, with a Skylake i5 6400 or i7 6700, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.
I really liked your present review of Vive. simple and straight. Ok, it´s a video from 2016, but I only heard a few things about Vive, I did not know much of the specs that you´ve mentioned here. So, thanks for the video. I am thinking buy a VR set but i don´t know wich one is better, the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift

love to know how the Vive runs with sli in a actual game... in the steam Vr test my system gets a very high 8.9 with a couple gtx 780s 16 gig ram and i5 3570k
Thanks for the review. I just bought a PSVR and returned it due to tracking issues. The Vive definitely looks to be the best of the bunch, but why they heck couldn't they make the headset more ergonomic? Sony really nailed the design of theirs. I think I will keep waiting, but if Vive makes it to the next generation, I will seriously consider i t. Any comment's on HTC's customer support? I've read many reviews on Amazon saying it's atrocious. That right there is enough to turn me off from buying their product.
I've personally tried this at a microsoft store, and from that personal experience as well as the research I've done, the vive is the best VR headset on the market. personally I would prefer to play on a console, I'm just waiting on a console VR setup to be as good as the vive, or perhaps for the vive to become compatible, which is extremely unlikely to ever happen
+Hildebert We were supposed to get it on the 5th. It's the 7th now, and most of us haven't heard a thing. Nobody knows how long it'll take for it to arrive.
+Sam Suite Apparently things like text and far off enemies in games like Elite dangerous get really gritty unless you lean in? Its easy saying resolution is ok when then only demo games are bright colored low poly ones, or ones that have text as large as a human head. Games that arent 100% geared towards VR seem to suffer a lot.
I wouldn't even bother playing those games in VR. The experience itself is mind blowing in the Vive. After a week of using it, traditional games seem silly right now.
2faced No way in hell is shooting bubbles the next generation of gaming. The hype will wear off and you'll be back to playing Doom and No mans sky on a screen like the rest of us.
Haha, I'm not sure why you think VR = shooting bubbles. I don't know if it's the "next generation of gaming," but maybe chill with the anecdotal opinions until you've tried it. Text is perfectly readable. It's more comfortable if it's larger, but that seems like a reasonable concession. Sure, VR games are pretty much only good if they were made for VR, but that kinda goes for any medium. The best phone games are the ones built for phones. I've actually developed for the Vive. I'm not the most experienced, but I have an understanding of what works and what doesn't. Really, give it a try. You can get demos in retail stores now.
Adi in a VR video, YUP, I'm gonna watch. That said, not enough Adi waving VR controllers around, although that was a great payoff at the end! Adi, keep being Adi!
I just gonna wait a couple of years when I can get an wireless, lighter, more comfortable VR, its just to soon yet and its too expensive for what it is.
Still a no go for me--I wear heavy, thick glasses and the demo I did at Best Buy made it clear that, if you're vision impaired and can't wear contacts, then using this thing is hopeless.
I'll wait a year for more actual games with realistic graphics (I want dying light remade for Vive, using the controllers to grab onto stuff and being chased by those night zombies and swing an electric sword around) and there might be another version out which is better, because they could of rushed it so everyone doesn't buy occulus.
Crazy how much VR has evolved, i remember thinking it would take forever for there to be a headset like the quest 2. I still have my pre ordered htc vive.
i'm still surprised that it's out of all the companies, HTC who made this
+Harold Struik I heard it was because HTC and Valve have their US headquarters in Seattle.
+Harold Struik a proof that HTC is a still a great company , they just need to get their shit together
+Melinon Not really. Valve is willing to work with any headset manufacturers, HTC just happens to be the first one that wants to cooperate with them unlike facebook.
+Harold Struik ever since the HTC One M7, i have been a fan of HTC. i think they're great!
Devon Connelly same but i have HTC One m9+ prime camera edition.
WHY DOES NOBODY USE THE WRIST STRAPS?!?
+Adam Possiel They're like condom, it's a bummer to put them on before when you can just slide in right away.
+Ra D. Yes, bit much like condoms, better to be safe than to rush making a huge mess.
*risk
I do
Someone isn't using the wrist straps...
+Patrick Monkman im using the strist wraps
Screw the wrist straps.
how are you going to say less comfortable when the straps are clearly put on wrong.
yeah it was incredibly crooked.

How to Watch 3D Blu-ray Movies on HTC Vive? Tips for you: ua-cam.com/video/23niaaYrP5c/v-deo.html

I fucking love this review. The host, her shirt, her nerds and emoji pillows
Lol this lady thinks Big Picture is "the full version of Steam"...
This hole thinks she is smart cause she works for this company.
That front facing camera is a huge plus, however, I would kind of like an AR view that glows when you're about to hit something. You hear me Valve? I feel it would prevent incidents like the blooper in the video.
that feature is in the vive. maybe she set up the play area too large.
That's... exactly what the Vive has.
+2faced okay, okay - point proven selling feature. Good to know.

"It's not a pretty piece of hardware" -- Neither are you, damn gurl.
Thanks for this! Decided to go with the more simple system Occulus Rift as the controllers are more comfortable to me.
nice place. how do editors able to afford apartment/house like that
by working
yeah in NYC? that's looks like a 5000 a month apartment are you sure it is by working ?
+littlebigmarc nah bro they definitely robbed a bank in gta style
3:18 if you whack it the sensors become messed up making it unplayable
Nice intro. We use HTC Vive with Simlab software for Product Design visualisation.
no one is saying whether VR is actually good or not, like I see no in depth review on the experience itself.
My biggest question would be the effects of long-term sessions. I know that all headsets have improved tremendously in reducing eye fatigue, but what about perception? i should probably watch the video before commenting
+Harold Struik yea, I agree.
+Jonathan Dirks you're all over the vive videos today
I still want to get a multidirectional treadmill for this, if I ever buy it.
The 'industrial look' I think is actually pretty cool. Looks very cyberpunk.

At least she is competent and knows how to set them up
Why would you give oculus such a praise while VIVE a middle finger?
+Charles Liu I feel like these VR reviews are really biased towards oculus.
In the oculus review they weren't talking about the short of oculus but here they took about 1/3 of the time talking about the flaws?
+Charles Liu I agree it seemed like they are Biased towards the Oculus. Maybe they are somehow partnered with Oculus or FB.. but then again im just speculating so who knows.
like someone else said in these comments
oculus=IOS
vive= Android.

i would skip the sony vr thing. I heard it's not really the best experience. However it is more affordable.
I'm going to have to rethink my whole house setup in order to do this...but...I still want a VR headset so bad!
so what if u have a small space will it exsclude you from using it until you get a bigger space?
Nice review. It's still early days for VR. It's hard to be patient and not buy the Vive or Oculus just yet. Especially when I already have a VR ready gaming PC (i7-6700k/980Ti).
me too i cant wait gonna order a vive soon
Out standing review! any new updates since you had it for awhile?
not including earphones is a huge plus over the occulus. why would anyone not use their own high end headphones anyway?
This headset is for creating games and stuff like education like they use this in museum
So basically, I need some sort of higher place to put the lighthouses ontop of? Good that I have basically not a single spot like that in my room. And then there is the power supply issue.... damn Im gonna need more cables.
+JOENY_VEGAS The Vive comes with wall mounts (she did not use them) and need to be placed about a foot above your head slightly angled downward.
"a pain for me to set up, but cool experience"
Weak review. Should not have expected much from a 5min video though.
Can my $5000 macbook pro with Touch Bar compatible?
haha jk don't hurt me, I'll just leave....
lol she reminds me of Trinity from the Matrix
Oh hell no, pls
I think VR gaming will pick up steam over the next years as VR and AR interactions will bring a new user experience for people who use the internet and want to see different worlds. Ironically it kind of makes perfect sense for us to be using VR with Covid19 shutting down the real world.
Adi is like an Oracle to me lol I was hoping she would review both Vive and Rift and there you go. Very good and balanced review.
Isn't it kind of weird doing in this in a room by yourself?
What was your PC setup? Mainly CPU/GPU/Ram --- If that was the base 970 then it didn't look too bad at all.
+Corrosive www.asus.com/Tower-PCs/ROG-G20CB-Oculus-Ready/ I think this is the one they used, so it could be using a 970 or 980, with a Skylake i5 6400 or i7 6700, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.
can i hook this up on xbox one as well like can play games on xbox 1 using the VR Vive
I really liked your present review of Vive. simple and straight. Ok, it´s a video from 2016, but I only heard a few things about Vive, I did not know much of the specs that you´ve mentioned here. "Oh God what I do" I would watch a Montage with moments like these
Is that a Nord in your living room? Nice! Did you record the soundtrack? What model is that? Cant's tell.
Why don't they just have gloves you wear instead of controllers to hold?
Like The Power Glove, basically
Because each app or game turns that controller into a device with a lot of functions. You need to sometimes be able to hit buttons or use the disc.
+2faced why not just have that virtually?
Does mirror's edge officially support VR now or was that a mod/driver?
"fig leaf of protection", I like that
I'm just going to wait for the vive two..
why not gloves wit thees sticks sensors instead of sticks ? Clearly when you try to lift something wit a hand you feel you use your arm muscles gets a sensation but then ther is the magic in the game that would bend stuff like pressure points of an arm that make a brutal sword swing of curs you are strong enough to do that ,so there is a lvl sensation that should be allowed in a game a stress limit
this looks cool , also trying this while walking seems more interesting
Great review! well done
is there a reason that she's wearing all black? Gives me a plugged into th3 matrix feeling. Probably intentional
love to know how the Vive runs with sli in a actual game... in the steam Vr test my system gets a very high 8.9 with a couple gtx 780s 16 gig ram and i5 3570k
Hi, where did you buy those tripods. What are the specs. Thanks
Thanks for the review. I just bought a PSVR and returned it due to tracking issues. Shove the furniture out of the way, I'm setting up my VR room!
Tbh it looks like the most intuitive of the VR headsets right now...
So what's unfinished with the hardware???
I've personally tried this at a microsoft store, and from that personal experience as well as the research I've done, the vive is the best VR headset on the market. personally I would prefer to play on a console, I'm just waiting on a console VR setup to be as good as the vive, or perhaps for the vive to become compatible, which is extremely unlikely to ever happen
you gonna use this with the computer you "built"?
What coffee table is that?
Does anyone know how to take a "screen shot" with an HTC Vive Headset using Valve controllers?
You guys have forgot the timecode on the video. Rookie mistake.
You can actually see the eye on the triangle i dont know what it means but i feel bad if i buy it Idk.......
I 100% agree that this doesn't seem like a finished product. It feels DK2ish to me while the Oculus feels well polished. But again, my opinion.
Every one of these videos is a huge slap to the face to us idiots who live in Europe and paid for the Vive by card.
why?
+aaron4820 You're not alone. I ordered, and got confirmation at :01 and still don't have any clue when my Vive is arriving.
spec24 They released a statement today, I'm :03... also nothing...
aaron4820 Oh yes, I'm well aware :) Just damage control IMO.
+Hildebert We were supposed to get it on the 5th. It's the 7th now, and most of us haven't heard a thing. Nobody knows how long it'll take for it to arrive.
cant wait for counterstrike VR
still grainy?? so, what more on PS VR?? :(
Good Review. Well Written.
do i need a larg space to use it ?
ID for the first track/song?
Grainy resolution is whats stopping me from throwing 900 bucks at this thing..
+SvenOkonomi It's really not something you notice unless you're looking for it. there's very little SDE
+Sam Suite Apparently things like text and far off enemies in games like Elite dangerous get really gritty unless you lean in?

still waiting for Nerve Gear for sword art online...
FLEKS OR GOOGLE KEYBOARD????
Adi in a VR video, YUP, I'm gonna watch. That said, not enough Adi waving VR controllers around, although that was a great payoff at the end! Adi, keep being Adi!
"...there's a link box that needs plugged in..." Let me guess - Kansas?
Where did you get it
Imagine trickshotting in COD lol
I just gonna wait a couple of years when I can get an wireless, lighter, more comfortable VR, its just to soon yet and its too expensive for what it is.
Love your videos, can you please review Furious seas? A vr pirate game on steam.
price?
Still a no go for me--I wear heavy, thick glasses and the demo I did at Best Buy made it clear that, if you're vision impaired and can't wear contacts, then using this thing is hopeless.
Boots indoors? And in the living room? Savage!
But nice review ! :)
I'll wait a year for more actual games with realistic graphics (I want dying light remade for Vive, using the controllers to grab onto stuff and being chased by those night zombies and swing an electric sword around) and there might be another version out which is better, because they could of rushed it so everyone doesn't buy occulus.
please try out paranormal activity vr
i wouldn't even say this is competing with oculus, the vive is in a total different league. imo oculus is just a small step up from gear vr
I feel like it's not supposed to crush your ears like that? Is she wearing it properly?
+Mason Cusack she might just have a small head
