Let me clarify something.... I PURCHASED this VIVE as well as "A Chair in a Room" - this is NOT a sponsored video. It's funny how showing a trailer for an indie game triggers so many haters thinking that this is paid marketing when the only flow of money was from ME to THEM!
People on UA-cam are idiots, Jay. Especially given that if a video is sponsored, UA-camrs are REQUIRED to list that it is sponsored. So, yeah, people are dumb.
I think live streaming would be really cool. Kyle over at awesomesauce network did it with hover junkers a while back and I wish he'd do it more. I wish he'd do it more but if you could start that trend that'd be really cool.
Jay if you are planning to do a test/benchmark with the RX480 in VR that would be awesome I am planning on going for Team red if it is as good as AMD claims
Jay, I have no evidence to back this up but I seriously believe I am your long lost son and the only way to remedy all the memories we have failed to make together is to give me your address and let me play with your HTC Vive.
11:59 thats the problem of telling people about VR its not the same as you see when watching someone playing it . So they watch a youtube video and think its a shit gimmick . I had family over to try my VR and they where watching me and some others play VR . Most people said things like "why are you over reacting" it cant be that good " . They cant believe that pepple are actually scared of horror games or confused why pepple are reacting so much to a fake game . But then when they have a turn inside the vr headset they instantly underatand the magic of it. Its my favourite thing to witness someone going from thinking " this doesent look that good why is he exaggerating " to playing it themselves and saying outloud fucking hell this alot better then it looked on the PC screen now i get it.
In fairness to Sony, they've been doing a fairly good job trying to push VR into the mainstream, even if the PSVR is only 2 months in the wild. Hopefully it will encourage more people to become interested in a more high-end setup.
@@xurvis2789 Problem is even with the lower price of the headset, you still need a relatively high end PC which makes the total price of entry still very high. And of course not everybody wants to put a massive box on their face. It's going to be a while before any VR tech is really mainstream.
Not true, I'm using a 1080Ti with my Vive and you get motion sickness from your brain not being able to make sense of the motion. You need static things in your peripheral vision and or limit your FOV of the motion to help with this. That's why driving games in first person can make you feel sick. Google Earth does a good job at demoing a good 'comfort mode' on limiting the FOV.
If you are talking about the racing games. Projekt Cars for example has a horrible VR mode. Its locked at 60 fps. And sometimes it reprojekts 30fps to 60. The stuttering makes you sick. I have build an immense tolerance to it so i can play almost everything but its not fun this way. If a VRgame does not reach contant 90fps you cant even count it as a vr game. I have also a high end system.
Chris Braeuer Would you say the same now that you’ve had it for a year? I’m hearing many mixed feelings about it, but I’d like to get one if it’s worth it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I think this was the best Vive vid I've ever seen, realistic, personal and with just the important little technical stuff without any unnecessary numbers. Great job.
Oculus is MUCH cheaper and gear is meh and other headsets are always popping up. also consumer vr is decently new so give it a few years and it will be much more affordable
When I first put on my Vive I legit cried, I cried right in front of all my siblings and family members because it was so cool and nothing like I had ever seen, and I'm only 15. I don't think it's really the exact number age you are but mostly your relationship to games and the different consoles. I had been playing games since I was a wee lass since my dad was an avid gamer before me and I had saved up so much of my allowance to spend on the steam summer sales, and even built my own computer recently so I hold gaming very closely in my heart, which is why I had such an extreme reaction.
Jay, I've been considering buying the Vive, but I'm worried that if I just wait a little longer we'll be getting more improvements. When do you think a Vive 2 would be released? Or do you even think they need to worry about a 2nd one yet?
They're already working on a vive 2. I heard a story the other day that said HTC has a huge team working on it now that they see there's a real demand vr. I don't think they speculated on a release date though. I'm guessing at least 2 years.
1 year cycles at a minimum 2 year expected minimum 3,4 years possible. Maybe some minor improvements(like a slim edition or something in a year). But pretty much. I would treat Vr headsets like GPU's if it's more then a month till the new one comes out buy the current gen.
It's 100% worth it. Anyone that says otherwise is an oculus fangirl or a VR hater. BTW kids, HTC Vive was rated the favorite among developers and it was rated number 1 tech device of 2016.
I'm a vr enthusiast so it's great to see you doing vr for the channel. The thing about vr is people have to experience it to really understand. The biggest problem with vr imo is locomotion; I'm not sure teleportation is the solution. I'm hoping the Virtuix Omni is sufficient but we're so early it's like we're in the wild west where everyone is trying everything and seeing what works.
I actually just posted a video on a game for the Vive, battledome... It's like a first person shooter, sorta like a futuristic paintball... You HAVE to try it man
YOU sir, even after keeping up with VR for 2 years now, are the first to tell me that the vive can be configured for a sit down experience. Thanks for that! It was my only question that was yet unanswered.
Depends on what you call Max out. It will defenitely handle textures on ultra, lighting, etc. But nearly no setup can Max out every option like e. G. 16*MSAA
Well the 1080s will preform about the same as the current setup. Most likely better in real world performance because of how much better optimized 2 way sli is compared to 3 way.
I watched 3 minutes of the video and then decided to give you people the short version: YES IT'S FUCKING WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have the posibility, GO BUY IT NOW!
For some reason, when I took off the header after 5 hours of playing rec room soccer I didn’t feel anything like a head ache or eye strain, and it’s really good exercise. I really recommend it!
Went to visit my brother and he had just received his vive, I've been following VR development (various tech reviews), and was absolutely stunned when I put on the goggles and my brother handed me the controllers; reaching out and grabbing the controllers I was seeing in VR felt really cool. I wish I had the coin to drop on a VR system and VR capable rig.... Spent a looooong time with Longbow, sooo much fun.
Thanks. This is the most comprehensive video I've seen on Vive. The setup stuff was very helpful in deciding whether or not I have room for this thing.
My father is obsessed with the game Longbow on my HTC Vive, in "The Lab". Oh, and by the way, the Vive's resolution is 2160p by 1440p, with OLEDs. The refresh rate is 90hz. The reason I know so much, is I have been using one for about 2 years, and I got my own about 2 months ago for my 13th birthday.
Pixel Pirate its pretty noticable. but i dont mind it. because if the vive had the res and pixel density that the image is perfect then even the gtx1080 wasn't powerfull enough for the 90fps i think. vive is still great with the perfect tracked controllers
I just tried the Vive today and i need to stress that the Gear compared to the Vive is merely a "demo" to what virtual reality can really do. Like honestly, the gear is nice and all, but the freedom and immersion that comes with the vive is just MASSIVELY better, there is no comparison really.
I was considering getting the Vive this past week... then I realized I didn't want to spend the money (not on it, in general)... then yesterday I looked at how much I've spent *just* at EKWB over the past two months prepping for going dual loop watercooling in my system... and realized I could've easily afforded a Vive with that money. This is your fault, Jay, you're the reason I'm watercooling my new rig, cause you've made the idea so cool and appealing, and you've made enough good information available that I'm even making my own custom reservoir and possibly a dual D5 pump dual loop block.
Thanks for doing the video about the Vive VR headset. Very useful to me. 'Wondering whether I should get it (I had Oculus DK1 and it tangled up my PC's video). I'm hoping (one of these days) to create my own content, for self-motivational visualizations, and self-education/other education. Thanks again. Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.
I'm glad that you talked about the visual aspect of having something in your face. 3D kills me as well so that is something good to hear as not being an issue on this unit. Want one but will sit out a few generations to see how it develops before I jump in.
As a happy owner of the HTC VIVE, I can say that it's worth every dollar. It's simply the most amazing experience you can get with gaming, it even makes normal games feel dull lmao.
Tried the Vive at Steel Series here in Chicago. Unreal experience. Puzzle games are fun. Played a fruit ninja type game. Project cars with a proper wheel was insane. Definitely keep updating us on what you're playing on the Vive.
I've had my "HTC VIVE" going all the way back to July 2016 I used it for two weeks, and I've never touched it since, why you ask? Because it's not ready for prime time yet. Here are the 3 main things that need to be improved before I'll ever buy another one of these headsets. Number one, and this is the most important reason, the 1080p resolution isn't good enough. Wait till they bump the resolution up to 4k and change the plastic Fresnel eyepieces to glass otherwise your going to be very disappointed. Number two: the headset is still too heavy their going to have to make them lighter. Number three: They need to figure out a way too cut the cord otherwise you could eventually trip over the cable and wind-up breaking an arm or leg. ^^
Hey Jay. Thanks for making this video, I just ordered the Vive 5 days ago and now I am even more static for its arrival :D. I have been looking at VR since 2011 when the first Oculus kickstarter, and finally pulled the trigger on it. I feel like its my duty to invest in this as a tech freak and gamer with the capital enough to do so. I dont want to see VR fail again, and this time i'm not just a kid with dreams, but a man with money and I have done my part so far to keep the VR wheels running. Hopefully the 2 gen of the consumer versions will be cheaper, because i cant wait to game with everyone in VR. Ill be running it on a 980Ti/i7 6700k and hopefully it is as awesome as it looks.
Jay. The ability to Supersample the Vive resolution was just enabled. Nobody has been able to get smooth gameplay with 3x and above though. Im sure you've got a rig to do it. Would be awesome if you could run some tests. Running it at 1.5 is a pretty huge difference. Cant image 3x or more. Instructions are on the front page of the Vive Reddit.
I like how Lil'J is your assistant on this one. While a video sure does not give a feel of VR, seeing how naturally a kid interacts with the VR, it gives more of an impression on how immersive it is.
Oof that sucks, we just had a deal in the US where you get a GTX 1070 FE and HTC Vive Set with Fallout 4 VR for $800. Hope the deals head over to y'all soon.
2 things. First Jay I gotta say your daughter is very cute! Secondly I have tried VR and it's as amazing as you say! I'm saving up for my Vive now. I plan on buying it around Christmas. I'm hoping by then there will be more, and better VR games out. Not to mention I could buy them during the winter sale.
Jay, this review is spot on! My nephew and I were playing chair in a room when i first got my vive and the same exact thing happened where he didnt want to move because of how different it is from just watchibg it on a monitor. Also a heads up, if you begin to experience weird things happening like crashing or tracking issues, switch to a usb 2.0 port!
Jay: two non-games you absolutely have to try on the Vive are Google's Tilt Brush and Universe Sandbox 2 (once you realize you can use the grip buttons to re-scale the world it becomes absolutely incredible)
Bought one just 2 weeks ago, not a single regret about the purchase. I'm also someone who hates to spend money, so you know I mean it when I say i'm glad i bought it.
Nice one man! I'd love to see some more VR experience vlogs - very helpful! I'm hopefully upgrading from my current PC to a VR capable beast in the next six months or so. I'm not saying what I have now - it's beyond embarrassing. Suffice to say it's going to be like trading in an early 90's VW Golf for a McLaren Spider. Somewhere along that line I anticipate a Vive.
It's amazing how you can't explain to people that didn't experience VR how good and amazing it is. With time some of the novelty does wear off - you feel it is too much work to put on the headset, deal with cables etc. But it still amazing and unlike anything you expected, even with crappy graphics, resolution, visible pixels and other weirdness. You just need to try it, to even understand what people mean when they talk about their experience with VR, it just doesn't compare. You need to have something to compare it to. That's why try, try, try.
Awesome video..My HTC Vive is waiting at the post office atm,was thinking to get it on friday. This video made me change my mind..Getting it in a moment. Thanks for the great video.
i got to try out the vive at a friends house just the other day and i can say that i was pleasently surprised with the experience. the tracking is really smooth and i got absolutely no motionsickness out of it. now i think about burnin all my savings just to upgrade my computer and get a vive. i got to try out the lab and i found a jar with a little guy on the inside. and i was like "aaaww, so freaking cool! look at this guy, he's so freaking cool! i just want to pick up my phone and take a picture."
Will you cover the new Vive Pro ? I enjoyed this video when u made it. Maybe even an update on how much you used yours over the last +\- 1.5year. Perhaps after the knuckle controllers release...
Thanks for taking a look at this Jay. I was on the fence about VR due to poor experiences in the past. After watching your preview, I'm sold. After I finally get my GTX 1070 I will be picking up a VR headset.
I have watched a lot of your videos mate..and your fantastic.. i had htc vive before you.. and watching your previous videos.. rift etc..just quietly smiling... thinking.. 'just wait til you try it' . and you have...and you have had the same reaction with it as myself..my mate ..and everyone else. its amazing isnt it. You cant really explain it..its stunning.. may i suggest 'windlands' to you..that spiderman feeling is just like nothing else.
I know it has been a number of years since you posted this review but I want to thank you. The price has come down and as of this posting you can get it for 500 dollars now. I am fixing to purchase it and I am very excited after watching your review. Again, Thank you
i have wanted one without touching it, or trying it, just for all the games on steam that have some support, and have wanted one ever since i found out the oculus was taking a shit and people were still having issues with the lag the price is a bit high, but if you think about it, it is replacing a screen, controllers/gamepad, and sound all in one package, not to mention, no need for trackIR in some games, so it's worth the 800 to me at this time, until some of the 144hz monitors come down and you can have surround with 3 of them as i do thank you jay, as always you give an in depth look into products that everyone wants.
Really liked this Jay. It was very "real" in terms of overviews. It also convinced me that this is worth a try. Vive or Oculus? Who knows. I'm about to drop close to 2k on a system so I think I will have one that's VR ready. At least, that's what every card I'm thinking of dropping into the new rig says. Thanks man.

Don't drink and Vive!
I have just don't go overboard.
You watch this wil become a UK law.

Once the price of VR like the Vive reaches the 300-400 dollar range it will become more mainstream in the gaming world.

Ive always wondered why people just dont put an eye hook in the ceiling so the cable is not a trip hazard.
one of those booms for a car wash hose plus a bungy taking up slack with a little tension.... its what i did for my air hose in a cabinet shop
Actually it should just pull the plugs out the back off the headset. And if you hit a stud it should keep you from falling!
i always wondered the exact same thing dude
because mom/wife
There's weird tension if you do that, along with if you try to crouch it'll yank the cables and pull the vive off your head.
I think this was the best Vive vid I've ever seen, realistic, personal and with just the important little technical stuff without any unnecessary numbers. Great job.
I just returned my Oculus rift to buy the Vive, was this a good decision?

There's a $400 unit coming out with similar specs, but I forgot who is making it. That will make vr $1000 total.
OSVR. But it also doesn't have most of the huge features the vive has.
The Rift also has shitty business practices.
Razer's OSVR is probably what most people will go for if they're getting the RX 480

Yeah the vive is an amazing piece of hardware. HTC has shit customer support tho
One year later and this comment is growing less and less relevant
both the rift and the vive are just fantastic with iRacing(rift only for now), Assetto Corsa, and Pcars

good one, except it doesn't look like he's using skunkworks unless he's used a very long cable

well thats not a possibility now, unless its in a funeral :/
He's dead
Because of the vive?
Appreciate your 2 cents.. as always your videos help answer the questions we have on these kick ass products, good stuff jay.

I have been waiting for you to make this video!!
Holy shit that looked scary af. I want to buy a really creepy game for the vive if i buy one. !
Kinda reminded me of Stranger Things
Hah. Your daughter has by far the best archery form I've seen from someone playing The Lab's Longbow demo.
im gonna literally cry bcus i want one sooooo muchh
Karl Robin Save up then :/
Will im too stupid for saving
Karl Robin got mine for Christmas
Will ive like 30$ hahahah
I'm glad that you talked about the visual aspect of having something in your face. 3D kills me as well so that is something good to hear as not being an issue on this unit.
Want one but will sit out a few generations to see how it develops before I jump in.

2 year old comment made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that. Thumbs up to you.
Dude, your little corner setup is amazing
didnt know you can get STDs from VR xD
VR porn will get you everytime.
This was the first video of yours I've seen. I really enjoyed it. Thx.
does it have pornhub support?
The fuck?
Yes
asking the real questions
As a happy owner of the HTC VIVE, I can say that it's worth every dollar. It's simply the most amazing experience you can get with gaming, it even makes normal games feel dull lmao.
wow if they went back and put F.E.A.R. 1 and 2 in VR holy shit man lol
Tried the Vive at Steel Series here in Chicago. Unreal experience. Puzzle games are fun. Played a fruit ninja type game. Project cars with a proper wheel was insane. Definitely keep updating us on what you're playing on the Vive.
I have one. It's awesome. Just buy it. Immersion....
Finally a setup video. And from Jay. Thanks man!
*Joke = my life*
your little one made the vr experience adorable, great video
Jay don't listen to the people saying this is sponsored. they just jelly. I'm definitely gonna get this. I has a 1070.

BSODs in your face.

Jay. The ability to Supersample the Vive resolution was just enabled.
Nobody has been able to get smooth gameplay with 3x and above though. Im
sure you've got a rig to do it. Would be awesome if you could run some
tests. Running it at 1.5 is a pretty huge difference. Cant image 3x or
more. Instructions are on the front page of the Vive Reddit.
I heard that sony will release a $300 VR headset. Hoping it is good as htc vive
Well, the resolution will be significantly worse on PSVR as well as a being locked to the PS4 and PS4 Neo.
+Jackal it's not for pc? Fuck it then
No, it will work only with a PS4
It's not official yet but I heard that Sony is considering bringing it to PC.
Also it uses the regular move controllers. Which are shit.
This is the best VIVE review I've found. Thank you Jay, tons of real life and technical information.
I want to get Vr because of VrChat
me too
Same
I like how Lil'J is your assistant on this one. While a video sure does not give a feel of VR, seeing how naturally a kid interacts with the VR, it gives more of an impression on how immersive it is.

What an excellent review.
Candid, honest, informative & real.
Really enjoyed it, thanks.
$800. No, thank you!
$600 brand new, $500 open box now
both vive and rift still are around 800€ :(
Oof that sucks, we just had a deal in the US where you get a GTX 1070 FE and HTC Vive Set with Fallout 4 VR for $800. Hope the deals head over to y'all soon.
useless how? any 1070-1080ti would have no issues with 1440X1600
right now VR is only 1200p the vive pro takes thats to only 1600p. so thats barley above 2k not 4k.
I just recently bought a new gaming computer. I'm so freaking excited and can't wait until I can get the vive!
I had already seen some of your videos a long time ago, but that one made my subscribe your channel! great video, thx
Cool video jay, thanks for sharing the VIVE, look like a lot of fun.
Thanks for sharing the experience man, great vid!!
Thanks for the great video.
got mine today...a fucking blast
i got to try out the vive at a friends house just the other day and i can say that i was pleasently surprised with the experience. the tracking is really smooth and i got absolutely no motionsickness out of it. now i think about burnin all my savings just to upgrade my computer and get a vive.
i got to try out the lab and i found a jar with a little guy on the inside. and i was like "aaaww, so freaking cool! look at this guy, he's so freaking cool! i just want to pick up my phone and take a picture."
Fantastic perspective for anyone considering this product. Thanks for making this video!
Worth the experience. Mine came in yesterday and now I'm hooked!!!!
Will you cover the new Vive Pro ? I enjoyed this video when u made it. Maybe even an update on how much you used yours over the last +\- 1.5year. Perhaps after the knuckle controllers release...
I love jay's sponsor ads he puts in the beginning.
Thanks for taking a look at this Jay. I was on the fence about VR due to poor experiences in the past. After watching your preview, I'm sold. After I finally get my GTX 1070 I will be picking up a VR headset.
Welcome brother! If your using a vive get battle dome! If your using an oculus get touch... to play battledome!
Racing in VR would be amazing! Can you do a video on your experiences with that? The ultimate racer setup.
Could you do a vr performance review on a couple of different graphics cards? I'm interested to see how everything holds up
Glad you made this video Jay. Looking into getting VR when the prices drop.
Thank you for doing this. Been debating the Vive for months.
Again, Thank you
i have wanted one without touching it, or trying it, just for all the games on steam that have some support, and have wanted one ever since i found out the oculus was taking a shit and people were still having issues with the lag
the price is a bit high, but if you think about it, it is replacing a screen, controllers/gamepad, and sound all in one package, not to mention, no need for trackIR in some games, so it's worth the 800 to me at this time, until some of the 144hz monitors come down and you can have surround with 3 of them as i do
thank you jay, as always you give an in depth look into products that everyone wants.
Thanks man.
