In about two years, EVERYONE will have one. It's just like the cellphone explosion of 2007. 10 years ago, NOBODY had a phone that took pictures, played video, or had an "app." Today ... who DOESN'T have one??? And that was coming out of 2007 -- today's tech is so much more advanced. Just wait two years. No one will ever buy another "controller."
»Just wait two years. No one will ever buy another controller.« You're drawing false conclusions from an odd comparison. Cellphones are a whole different story, as they are a convenience in everyday life. I won't doubt that VR gaming will be big in a couple of years and probably enter mainstream, but classic gaming with controller or keyboard certainly won't die out. While some genres have always strived for more realism in terms of graphics, those are two different experiences. There will be a decline. But like TV didn't replace radio, VR won't replace "classic gaming". Mobile gaming will also be basically unaffected by VR. (At least until Augmented Reality like Google Glasses won't evolve so far that it can be done casually while traveling.)
Now to wait for the technology to get even more awesome games. And some day, maybe even hl3 in VR? Valve has at every point in time broken limits with their newest Half Life release. I hope the same will happen with this coming generation of tech.
+ArinsMind The Vive works just as well just sitting down. But unlike the Oculus, it can do roomscale, too. The Oculus does not have 360 degree tracking. As soon as you or the yet to be released controllers move out of sight of the camera, nothing will be tracked. The Vive lighthouse tech on the other hand tracks everything in your playspace.
***** That is what I said. Also, that means it is not 360 tracking because you can't hold your controller behind your back for example. As soon as anything is not in view of the camera, it is not tracked. The Vive solved that problem.
Farewell VHS Yeah, but it's still to expensive. I am pc gamer, i have not even one console. I have the Gear VR and the S7. That was also expensive... i don't have money for all VR headsets. But i love this shit. :D So i just wait till it gets cheaper.
It is the year 2019 and vive is still amazing to this day. Thank you for making this happen to our community and other youtubers.! This technology is the best thing i've ever seen in my life!
tripping on a wire - no, its easily manageable, not crashing into walls when game asks you to do very quick movement and before "chaperone bounds" have time to appear you are behind them ... - but that is more of developer problem than that of hardware
I absolutely love VR gaming & experiences. Watching video of VR gameplay is not providing the really amazing immersion feeling that the player has, you have to try many games with the helment on. From starters you are seeing everything in real 3D, not a 2D view as watching monitor/tv; not even a 3DTV because the PoV is fixed, while in VR it follows your head, you can now see everything with depth. The real scale of things is incredible, If you play a space game you will feel yourself so small against the size of planets, stars, the multiverse. If you play RPG or horror games, the big monsters are going to mean a very different sensation when you see a giant horror next to you. Watching distant things, Flying, driving simulations with speed illusions. Seriously, I cannot even also mention the fact that you move around that world and you can now do real actions while playing like using swords, punching with box gloves, using BOWS (closing your eye to aim), etc. The immersion is over 9000!! and it freaking works. VR is going to create a new to enjoy games that is not only to play it but to experience it: ua-cam.com/video/rZ3I-DxcSeg/v-deo.html
I remember watching this video four years ago when the vive was new and vr had just hit the scene. I was super bummed that i would probably never experience vr because I was young, so obviously couldn't afford an 800$ hulk of machinery like this, nor did i have a strong enough pc to run the games. But now I'm here, four years later with the Oculus Quest, and I love vr! And I just love going back to this video and thinking about how far vr has come, from something that, to most people, is completely inaccessible, to something that anyone can enjoy, no pc required!
Now *this* was filmed in such a brilliant way. It really helped the 2D viewer understand a bit of how VR feels.
Yeah. Back then so many people couldn’t fathom what the vr experience was like

»Just wait two years. No one will ever buy another controller.«
You're drawing false conclusions from an odd comparison.
:)
That's a time span of nearly 10 years, not a couple.
I know what you feel.
God, I wish I have one!
What an amazing piece of technology! This will truly change the form of electronic entertainment!
well I know now what I want for Christmas
+oriana garrido hell yeah!
Not the Vive ?
Sw3ggur
I would prefer HL3 than a HTC VIVE
(but.. *cough* if ther's HL3 on the actual Vive thing.. I would definetelly take it)
+oriana garrido 800$
but it's your PC vr ready?
Now to wait for the technology to get even more awesome games. And some day, maybe even hl3 in VR? Valve has at every point in time broken limits with their newest Half Life release. I hope the same will happen with this coming generation of tech.
OMG I can't believe you predicted the future 😂...I mean Alyx is not HL3 but is a HL on VR :0
Hey dude can I borrow your time machine
I'm more impressed with the setup they made to be able to film it.
+Cloud Stratus I am interest too, It seems not a consumer tech vive can provide currently.
"Can I go first?"
Immediately doesn't go first
Yea, but can we have just as much fun... sitting in a chair? That's what I want to know.
+ArinsMind No, but thats the same as asking if playing soccer sitting on chair in the middle of the field is as much fun as really playing it.
+ArinsMind
Just go to IKEA, they have plenty of chairs! And for good prices too!
+ArinsMind of course you can!!
*****
That is what I said. Also, that means it is not 360 tracking because you can't hold your controller behind your back for example. As soon as anything is not in view of the camera, it is not tracked. The Vive solved that problem.
I just want one sooo badly, like unbox it, smell the all new scent of HTC Viveness... ahh....
One day.. Hopefully... One day..
Smells like fresh paint, weirdly.
let me tell you, it's worth it.
I loved every second of my brother's vive, totally worth the wait. Someday, everyone will have one hopefully
Same. I really want one, but the price is just too much.
Smells nauseating to be honest. Like paint on plastic rubber nauseating.
Wish I had $800
ya me tree
ChaosBelow ya me 4
ChaosBelow ี
it cost 1000 bucks in Russia, man. this is fucking crazy
ChaosBelow buy rift you can use it in steam and it is much more cheaper now.
Proud owner of a Valve Index. Setup was a breeze, love the near-perfect Linux compatibility.
Looking forward to what's to come!
I'm pretty sure there is a lot of HL3 announcements hidden in this video.
? How so
@@bonbin6053 u made me cry again
Its awesome as fuck, but its too expensive.
Farewell VHS
Yeah, but it's still to expensive. I am pc gamer, i have not even one console.
I have the Gear VR and the S7. That was also expensive... i don't have money for all VR headsets. But i love this shit. :D So i just wait till it gets cheaper.
Yeah....
*****
Don't spread viruses under my comments!
Just wait for v2 which will be some time in 2017.
Vic B when did they announce it
This sold VR reality for me
Virtual reality reality
+Christopher Wright I need to go to the ATM machine and enter my PIN number so I have enough money to buy a VR reality headset :3
It is the year 2019 and vive is still amazing to this day. Thank you for making this happen to our community and other youtubers.!
This technology is the best thing i've ever seen in my life!
This is the only thing I've ever seen that I've been tempted to sell a kidney for.
Can i play half life 3 on the vive?
hl3 will only come as vive exclusive
valve is actually making 3 full vr exclusive games
Ice Carbon X I guess they figured out somehow
I could imagine someone tripping on the wire
LoL
I mean, if you feel the cord you could just activate the camera mode real quick and untangle yourself from it.
It's surprisingly not as annoying as you would think. You sort of learn to keep clear of it.
tripping on a wire - no, its easily manageable, not crashing into walls when game asks you to do very quick movement and before "chaperone bounds" have time to appear you are behind them ...
Can't wait to trip over that wire.
I'm actually afraid of how drunk I'll get while playing this and jump out the second story window for real.
the htc vive tells you if you go too far out of your space or get close to a wall.
Pyronectic Yeah but my drunk ass will ignore all warnings
You get a virtual reality system, and you expect me to believe you're going to waste it pretending to work in a fast food restaurant?
Its a allegory for how we can never escape our horrible lives.
+Liberals Are Insane I was not hired by McDonalds, so this will fulfill my dream.
I got mine in November as an early Christmas gift for both me and my mom. It's absolutely awesome, don't regret spending nearly 1000 getting it
Can you plug it into your PC and just watch movies with it?
Yes. With Virtual Desktop for example.
NO
If they say make a movie with a 360° view ,than yee
That's what I was thinking. Who needs a movie theater when you have an HTC Vive. Assuming the screen has a high enough resolution.
"movies"
Giant spiders in VR? FUCK THAT I'LL DIE!
Okay valve, we have waited long enough for HL3, at least a trailer would be nice, I mean, its 2017
AwesomeDoge2334 AwesomeDoge2334 HL3 on vive?
AwesomeDoge2334 AwesomeDoge2334 You have to wait.
AwesomeDoge2334 AwesomeDoge2334 or portal 3 but hey it's just a suggestion
I guess volvo stopped making games altogether
i heard they are big in the car industry now
1:16 "It makes you feel like Spiderman."
Oh cool, so if my job flipping burgers at burger king isn't mundane enough I get to come home and do it in the luxury of my own living room! Sick!
A stealth VR game would be awesome
Better than the oculus by a long shot
+Dust Oculus are going to release tracked controllers as well later this year, but yeah until they do the HTC Vive has a massive hardware advantage.
+Santarii Oculus still has not a full room scale.. That's where the real imersion starts.
The tracking will be roomscale when the Oculus Touch controllers ship with a 2nd tracking camera.
You're making the htc vive looks about 100 times better than it actually is
I need this in my life NOW!
BULSHIT!! THE CHEAP PLATIC CRAP FROM VALVE SUCKS! AND VALVE HATES CUSTOMERSE EVEN MORE THAN STEAM HATES CUSTOMERS!!!
Its awesome that they got to play this. But it triggers me that these people are playing the lab and don't even know what portal is
Sean Ferguson at 3:32 one of them drew atlas in tilt brush
I have this VR headset. I got it Christmas. It was amazing. We play it almost everyday.
thats the coolest thing i ever saw
Once I saw real mountains, dogs and reefs.
That cord in the back though...
Cordless vr is now a thing BTW. Go grab a quest 3.
WHEN HALF LIFE 3???
No… portal dog
This was a genius way to advertise the htc vive. Good job valve.
I just tried one out at my friends and it was the coolest thing ever keep up the great work I can't wait to see what you bring us in the future
If you see this comment,Gabe, send me a HTC Vive :D

Valve, I love all your videos and games, and, everything you guys do! It's just so amazing! You guys are awesome! Can I have an HTC VIVE?
(My Email is SpringLock8@Gmail.com)
+Pj Bj naive
?
+Pj Bj you will not get it
Maybe not THIS way
I have a HTC Vive I've been having it for 4 years
Wow, this is actually a good way of describing the experience.
1:26 This is Borealis...HL3 leaked
Not really man..not really
It would be pretty cool to play Half-Life 3 with thi... oh, right...
hey, Half life 3 confirmed, VR = 2 letters, Steam = 1 word, 2 + 1 = 3, half life 3 confirmed
The hardest part of this video is not buying the headset but finding true fun friends.
3:05 Here is your ziplines from leaked hl3 files.

4 years later and this headset is still better in terms of tracking than pretty much anything else.
Still it’s amazing how far we have come in such little time
