    That was a fascinating project. I HOPE that was a gag photo of it by the trash bin! I've definitely picked up a few tips from viewing these videos. Thank you.

    Really coming along. Mine had a couple white balls on it, one had turned more yellow than the other.
    On my spindle assy. that thick rubber washer had opened up and was causing issues. Think its because the new grease 'digested' it -- LOL.
    Loved the idea of bluing it all. My drill press lived in central Calif- rust never an issue . Here in western Washington it is a huge problem.
    What a beauty you have now !!! ...and I learned alot about my old drill press see you dissect and put this back together. Thanks.

      Absolutely. These old King Seeley's were so pretty from day one. Its a shame to see them get run down. Good luck getting ours up tight. Don

    That thing is beautiful. I recently restored a Craftsman 150 myself. But, certainly not to this level. I’m going to revisit it and install a nicer switch and LED lighting. Thanks for the inspiration and sharing!!!

    Love the restoration. You did a wonderful job. I have the exact same model that was handed down to me for my late father. I’d like to add the lights as you did. Are they LED and where did you source them from? Thanks.

    Excellent job, Don! Can't help but admire a guy who appreciates the good ol' machinery...BTW was the paint scheme meant to look "Bobba Fett-esque"? I picked up a functional Craftsman DP at a neighborhood garage sale last summer. Still working but in need of some TLC. Non-OEM motor and belt adj. plate but has a foot pedal switch. Thinking of converting to a DC treadmill motor drive because of easy speed-changes (i'm old with a lot of "wrenching arthritis", so learning to adapt...or die ;o). The only numbers I can find on the machine are on the head (Craftsman tag): 103.23590, looks a lot like yours but doesn't have that quill spring adjustment knob. I can't find that exact same model # anywhere on the web...was hoping to get a user/parts manual. Keep up the great work and your videography...very helpful and inspiring!

    • @donsengine3158
      @donsengine3158  Рік тому

      Hey Russ. If it looks like mine without the spring adj. then it probably is. The serial number says it is 103. Sometime in the mid 60's they did away with that, but the rest of the press is the same. I did the paint scheme just on what I thought would look good. I always liked the Detroit diesel engine color but thought it should be offset a little. The DC motor sounds like a plan, but most of them that I've seen are pretty large and have really high rpm ranges like around 5000. But hey, any thinking it through can get you a workable plan. Good luck with that. Thanks for following. Don

    Nice Job, I found one in the garbage down the street , all it needed was a new cord , plan on cleaning it up and painting as soon as the weather gets warmer . it’s the same model as yours . I need to get a chuck key . Is that a 1/2in chuck ?

    • @donsengine3158
      @donsengine3158  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks, Yes sir, it is a 1/2 incher. Very nice little DP. I can't believe anyone would chuck it. Its a sick world. Would love to see it once cleaned up. Don

      Update on the drill press , motor has no power to start up with belt on , will start up without belt, but can stop pulley with hand. Local electric motor shop wants $130 to rebuild . Any suggestions ?

    • @donsengine3158

      @@howiemook7701 Sounds like the start windings are toast. Ide be looking for a new motor. I had that problem with my Atlas lathe and switched it up for a 1 HP DC motor. A Used good motor is cheaper than rewinding for sure. Don

    Thanks for the video Don, I have the exact model and features, although branded Craftsman. Quick question: I had to replace the power cord to the motor. Motor runs, however, on startups it will sometimes run backwards and the motor housing becomes hot to the touch, but is not carrying a current. I'm guessing there is a jump somewhere but I'm stumped... do you have any suggestions?

    • @donsengine3158
      @donsengine3158  Рік тому +1

      Sounds like there has to be a polarity issue going on there. Best to tear it down and check for any shorts, especially at and around the wiring connectors.

  • @Swamp419
    @Swamp419 Рік тому +1

    Did you check runout after reassembling it? I was wondering if it retained the same amount.

    • @donsengine3158
      @donsengine3158  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely.. It was spot on. There's a lot to be said for a good bushing set up vs bearings. Not for every application, but in this one they're a spot on good design. Don

      Hay Mack, I friend of mine wupped it up on his 3D printer. I asked him specifically to do it as a King Seeley to pay respect to the actual manufacturer. If you r interested and would like to contact with him, just shoot me you email via my attached (on page/about) and I'll forward it to him. Don
