  • Antique Craftsman 150 Drill Press, making modifications with the addition of a pulley reduction and table counterweight. Changed out bolts for quick turn knobs for easy service. This vintage drill press is truly one of the best machine tools in my garage: Also a bit on SHARS tools.

    Love these drill presses. I've got two of these, both floor models. Easy to work on, easy to repair and they last..

    No farmer no food. No anybody. Most couldnt feed themselves to survive. I can live off nature there those who do. People only think of themselves in most situations. I thank vets cause many in my family have served and died in wars. Liked the upgrades on the press great job

      @@donsengine3158 I have a similar set up to what you have, meaning two lathes. I have a South Bend 9A long bed and a Hardinge HLV. I would like to run the South Bend on. VFD for speed control.

      @@aguycalledlucas Ohhhh an HLV.. Very nice. Very smooth , precise machine. Lucky guy. Would love to spend a few hours on one myself. I think the old U.S. machines Southbend do very nicely with a variable speed set up. Makes them very easy to dial in a good speed. I don't know if you saw my Atlas hot rod video. I actually used a DC motor and controller on that. The lower HP that those older machines were built for like a lower HP motor install, and with the DC motor you have a better torque/HP compensation. If I went to a VFD Ide have to raise the HP of the AC motor to like 2 HP to keep power up at lower speeds. That could get a little hairy if you stared pushing it in its powerband. I used a large AC motor 7.5 HP on the Monarch, but that's way overbuilt. Its original DV motor was 3HP to you give you an idea. Don

    Yours is the first video that I've seen marry these two concepts so nicely. I have an idea for something very similar but I do like the way yours looks, would love to get more detail on your design. What part of Florida are you in? I have a brass round that I want to lathe to fit into the center pole with a 10lb deep drop lead weight. Assuming the 10lbs will be enough to counter the tray, how much weight did you use to counter your table? Thanks for posting.

      @donsengine3158  2 роки тому +3

      Smokee, You should watch my video "synergy project" it gives the whole build. I think the original weight I used was was around 32 pounds. I took 8 pounds off later when I did the synergy video. So I should have 24 pounds in there now. It feels a lot better. You can always add or remove as needed to find the right balance. I'm outside Lakeland... or better said retentionpondland... 😃

      @@donsengine3158 I didn't see your "Synergy Project" video but I did find "Vintage drill press upgrade: Make a Counterweight and Pulley Jackshaft Reduction unit - Best Ideas!" Great video but I don't have the shop setup you've got. Let me know if you're ever interested in selling your initial build, I'm not far from you. Lutz, just north of Tampa or just west of Lakeland. Thanks again for the video and additional info.

      @@smokee27 Yes. you found the video then. The intro card is "synergy project". Honestly with a drill press, bench grinder and a welder you could make one. The lathe and mil just do it faster/nicer. I was going to hang onto both of the builds as I may be doing another larger drill press again soon and may convert it as well. If you would like to make one and feel you don't have enough equipment, let me know. I could probably whip you up something when I have a moment. Just use my email in "About" section of my page. Don

    Don: Enjoyed this video. I just recently bought a Craftsman 150 drill press. I have identified a reduction pulley sold by Sears and hope to buy. If I do, can you tell me the dimensions of the two drive pulleys to use on it? What is the correct way to measure the depth of the throat/size of the drill press? I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more videos.

      Thanks Wiliamo, Sure, but a lot of that depends on if yore going OEM or trying to slow it down or how many speeds you want to use. Let me know. Don
