- Getting this old but tight King-Seeley 103. drill press back into service. Lucky yard sale find turns into a better than new model user. Long version video with a lot of how too stuff.
#kingseeley, #craftsmandrillpress, #dunlapdrillpress, #drillpressrestoration,
My Olde Dad would say, "When it comes to bushings vs bearings. . . bushings win when in comes to accuracy."
Enjoyed.
King Seeley made the best stuff. I have the 8" table saw, the same band saw you have, the 4" jointer and the floor drill press like yours. That's the first bench drill press I've seen from King Seeley. Looking forward to the next installment. Thanks for the video!
“And when i say nuts and bolts, I literally mean drill presses…” A joke that only a bunch of shop nerd dads could appreciate. This video perfectly illustrates the difference between American manufacturing, back when that was such a thing, and Chinese manufacturing. THIS is why we need to get our companies back stateside and bring manufacturing back to the US.
I bought a 1938 Delta/Rockwell 50 bucks, and restored it,,bench top but has solid steel colum,, heavy bitch but zero run-out,, mounted a automotive sissor jack under it for height adjustment,, l already had a newer Delta floor type,, but it's not even in the same league as the vintage press,, so true and heavy l can do light milling with it with no problem..
Those old motors were heavy as hell. You probably just need a shorter belt to get it closer to the press.
Amazing -- was looking this up to deal with my old Craftsman drill press. Noticed your ser. # 103-23621 and mine is # 103-23620.
What a great find on the DP! I have a couple old Delta DP's and they're serious machines. Now, on your dial indicator did you mean 0.001" (one thousandth) rather than 0.0001" (one ten thousandth)?
Also I added a treadmill motor now have Total speed control.
Dunlap was the lowest cost brand at Sears. I'm not surprised it's Bushed. I have the Craftsman version of this in my drill press collection but not a Dunlap. Wait, let me check. I might have one after all.
Try the sissor jack the truss design takes out all the side to side movement and easily rises platform to any height and holds it there.. just mount it close to colum not to bind.
I think you jumped the gun a little quickly on that one I would of called my buddy a drill press expert to check it out first.
Throw away that crescent wrench and use the right tools !!!
It’s odd that you can get 0.0001” concentricity using a chuck that’s rated at just around 0.003”, or worse, new, and an old one at that. I wonder how they expected those bushings to remain lubricated without any apparent method for doing so, though the top one does seem to have a hole for that. Maybe they expect oil to drip down to everything?
