      @@fergusdenoon1255 he didn't compare fixing a flat tire and going to a funeral. He said that he used to be the kind of person you could call IN THE MIDDLE OF NIGHT to get help. Also, if I'm good enough friends with someone to call them IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to fix my flat or I'm good enough friends with them to help them when they call me IN THE MIDDLE OF NIGHT it shouldn't be a great inconvenience to them to show up to a funeral. One is an active and sudden disruption and inconvenience and the other is something that you are given notice for weeks, even months in advance. Tell me, why is it insane to expect a friend to show up to an important even but not a cousin? I went to my Aunt's wedding when I was 5or so because we were, as family members, expected to go. I DIDN'T KNOW HER,I knew NOTHING ABOUT her. But it would have been callus and rude if I didn't attend it also happened MULTIPLE STATES AWAY. We had to drive there over the course of 2 days. But nobody thought doing that was crazy. So how completely emotionally numb do you have to be to think it's insane to be expected to go to YOUR FRIENDS MOTHER'S FUNERAL where you will spend 2-3 hours maybe 3-4 and then go home? From the sounds, you probably think it's insane to be expected to go to your BROTHER'S funeral.

    • @fergusdenoon1255
      @fergusdenoon1255 4 роки тому +27

      @@enayatchoudhury5431 I'd be the one to ask for a little more information before making any assertions...
      … are we under the impression his mother wanted them there … were they asked to attend… did they like his mother... did his mother like them, did his mother know them, did they know his mother, do they go to anyone's funerals, and... is assumption the mother of all fuck ups...
      one's things for sure .. I wouldn't hijack my mothers funeral and make it all about ME ME ME! that would be a pure dick move.
      I would be the one to leave this guy out in the cold as seemingly if you ask him to do something you're obligated to something of his choice in return although it's unclear if he even tells you what it is and maybe just assumes you should be there when he desires as a pure act of mind reading… I'm pretty sure his so called friends didn't make him come out and help them fix a tyre .. they just asked, and he agreed, that's how things work, what doesn't work is demanding they come out or you'll never speak to them again .. that's not really how friends act is it... he may claim that he no longer picks up the phone, but its just as likely there simply aren't any phone calls anymore because of the way he's treated them since his mothers funeral, we simply do not know...
      but lets play assumptions and see where that gets us … so this guy (who's gone awfully quiet) gets phone calls and goes out at night and fixes peoples tyres, I would assume he owns a garage? which would mean he charges them for their tyre being fixed, he then calls them friends … so... he's crazy.
      is assumption really the best point of reference to judge a story, probably not, is one opinion that maybe skewed the best form of evidence .. .probably not!
      so,lets play devils advocate; if this guy invited his friends to his mothers funeral and they declined, that's fair enough, that's their choice, if he's punishing them for that choice he's a dick. If he invited them to his mothers funeral and they just didn't bother saying anything, then they are dicks and could have acted better, if he didn't invite them to his mothers funeral but assumed they'd be there despite the lack of invitation, he's a dick and his friends deserve an apology as for some reason it was apparent they were not wanted at the funeral due to the lack of invitation. I'm going with this guys a dick, just because he made his mothers funeral all about him which requires quite a twisted self involved self obsessed mind set, I'm just not into it.
      To answer your question directly, I don't go to funerals, so to take that as a personal insult, is just basically illogical.

      @Ardhemus agree. But it depends on the person's circumstances and personality. I'm definitely a "trading favours" type person. I'm happy to and even enjoy doing stuff "free" for people in exchange for something they can do for me. Some people aren't like that tho: they prefer the other type, e.g. paying full price. Or something else - some people I haven't figured it out yet. Also someone might be really short of cash or time one year, they may not be able to or in the mood to work how they used to.

    • @F2PMegaGod
      @F2PMegaGod 3 роки тому +21

      That is very correct. In fact, if you want free stuff, its the best way to do it. My mother is friends with a few repairmen similar to Louis where I live, she always made sure she tipped them and paid even for the simplest things, even stuff they wouldnt usually charge for. Whenever she needs, she has assistance on her PC or mine, and they throw a bunch of free stuff in, just because they want us to have it (the most extreme one was them giving her a free second-hand netbook they werent being able to sell).
      If you want help, help others first, and you won't even have to ask for it.

    When my fiancée left me and I was working a shitty job, My bestfriend was in my corner, was a reference for me at a new job, and legit offered me a place to stay with him. I didn’t accept the offer of the place to say but he was there for me in ways my blood family never came close to.
    And what’s crazy is that this guy tries to pay me for rides to the airport or for feeding his dog when he’s out of town or helping him put furniture together. Now he’s going to need school because he is going to be a doctor and I’m in a position to offer him and his new wife a home I own and usually rent out. We “fight” constantly about him insisting on paying me. I refused to accept any money.
    This fucking guy just drops $600/month into an index fund and says “one day You can use it for your kids’ college or I’ll just give it to them to help out when they graduate college since the investment will have grown by then”
    I’d still rather he just kept his money, but when he said that it blew me the fuck away.

    So I’ve been living in an RV owned by my boss because I had no job and no car so he offered me a place to stay while I got back on my feet. All he asked was that I clean up around the shop, make a fb page for the shop, and do any oil changes that come in. Over my time living here, I’ve overextended myself to show how much I appreciate what he has done such as doing some landscaping, painting, pressure washing the floor, washing his truck, randomly bringing him coffee, etc but everyday is starting to feel like he is taking me for granted to the point where in his mind he feels like he owns me. During my time here I got my driver’s license, got a car, got a job as a vehicle inspector at the same place I’ve been working. Today started off as a normal day, he was making some welds on an axle. Apparently, he was calling my name, but I was elsewhere putting my shoes on to go grab lunch w my mother. I come back to where he was working and is so infuriated that he made me an ultimatum that I either “help him” or “move out”. Well boys, today is the day I move out. If someone gives me something I appreciate it to the extreme and show how much it means to me, but when you start to hold it over my head as a means of manipulation, I no longer appreciate it nor want anything to do with you

    In addition to this, I would like to add: volunteering someone else's services without asking them. Don't do it. It's not cool to start handing out obligations. If someone is willing to help, that's another story, but just because they have done it before, don't expect them to do it again. It depends on their schedule, their money situation, the closeness of the relationship, the reciprocity, etc. And if they say no (hopefully in a polite way), don't shame them for it. Do keep it in mind, though.

    I learned this lesson the hard way. This lesson is something people should be taught about when they are young so they don't fall for the guilt trips that family and friends will hit you with the second they "need" something (including time) or "borrow" something (most of the time permanently) from you. The only way I will ever do anything anymore for friends and family is if I don't expect anything in return regardless of what they offer or say they are going to reciprocate with. When you are young and willing to please or are gullible or naïve, it's very easy to give into the guilt or shaming if you don't give every last drop of blood, sweat and tears you have. Family is absolutely the worst for this too.. zero boundaries and zero empathy towards the person they are using.

      The sad thing is, it's not even impossible to trade service for service. My mom and step dad traded a $4000 painting job for full exterior and interior, for $2500 and first pick of a litter of dogs they were about to have. They were professional breeders, and based on how much attention my dog got throughout its life, I can definitely believe he was worth $1500.
      If he would have been like hey, I can't pay $1k upfront for the cameras, but I can give you $300 upfront and give you and your staff a $1000 dollar tab of free meals for the labor and remaining price of the cameras. Of course, he would get this in writing, but that wouldn't be a bad deal if the food at the place was good. That said though, if hes trying to cut corners on cameras, his food probably wasn't that great.

    My mom was complaining about him when she saw him drop by and hand me $150 back after he got his last paycheck at his old job and is now making salary. She asked him why she handed me money. I told her I helped him cover rent. She went off because I loaned someone money.
    My response was: He is as much family as you are. He is not only loyal, he goes above and beyond. He gave me more money than he owed me. When I was in the dorms, having a nervous breakdown at 3 am because I was going to miss a deadline for class, I tried calling you, I tried calling my sisters. But my friend who dropped out of college, who (at the time) was working 2 jobs to make ends meet, who has a severe blood condition which requires he has monthly infusions, HE was the one who called in sick on his morning shift, drove 2 hours with me on the phone the entire time, and took me to Denny's to calm me down.
    I had to leave the college for my own mental health. I work part time and live with my mom while I look for a legitimate job. I know why my mom was mad that I lended him $100. Not only did he try to refuse my money, he went above and beyond for me. If THAT is not family, then I don't know what is.

    My friend fixes/builds computers when i asked him to build my latest one for me he said "30$ because you're a friend and I've known you my whole life" I decided to bargain with him and said "eh 30$ really man?" When he asked what was wrong I told him 30$ is too low and offered 50$ and offered to help him build it. We spent 2 hours making everything beautiful and doing some cable management. Afterwards i gave him 50$ and took him out for lunch on me. Never low ball anyone no matter what.

      Joke was on me. That piece of shit ended up getting addicted to pain pills and consistently stealing money from me, my girlfriend, his girlfriend, and every single one of his friends. I should have just stole his PSP from him in the first place.

    My late teens and early 20s i was the free tech support/repair guy. I eventually lost it at about age 25 when my family continued to do the things i explicitly told them not to do (dont click on links in emails, dont shut down Ublock Origin, dont install mcafee,) and their response was always the same "I didnt do that, i was hacked." When the "well you were the last one who fixed it" response popped up, that was the last straw. Took 1200 miles and 10 years of separation for that bad blood to go away.

      Hey could you explain why not to use mcafee? Ive been using it forever mostly because my dad also uses it, but i know antivirus is only necessary if you regularly go to sketchy websites and click spam mail links. I like to game and i always notice in task manager there are about 20 open mcafee tasks even when i manually turn them off... it doesnt work. Ive always wanted to uninstall but have never gotten around to it. Even disabling the firewall or active scanning leaves about 15 processes still running. I have done some research and people say that the antivirus doesnt put too much load on the computer but im still doubtful. Can you please educate me i have been around computers for a while but still dont know very much.

    • @traister101
      @traister101 4 роки тому +21

      @@the_guy9946 Well nowadays you don't even need a anti-virus besides the default one which would be Windows Defender. The reason why is because of how much work goes into keeping that off the internet. Google has a bunch of stuff in place for detection and lots of ways to report what they miss. Emais for example are relatively safe now. You can open emails that have known viruses in them and as long as you don't download or open any attachments your perfectly fine.
      If you use Ublock origin it blocks all the adds anyway so you don't have to worry about those. If you download stuff like Minecraft mods for example you need to make sure that what you downloaded is the right file. If your downloading a PDF but the file is named virus.jar it's obviously not the PDF you wanted. File extensions are always after the dot.
      Another easy way to figure out if your downloading the right thing is if it has the right name as well as file type. If your downloading something that's supposed to be called "Banana" but it's actually called "Orange" there's a possibility that's not what you want. A super easy way to make sure you never get viruses is to just not install the random file you got. You can basically ignore almost all my advice and just not install virus.exe.
      Also McAfee is such a pain to get rid of and that lends to it being suspicious. It'll reinstall itself if you don't delete all of it, sorta like a virus... I'd recommend you get rid of it and just not be stupid since it's "virus scans" don't even scan anything.
      The entire time my dad had it on the computer I was suspicious of the file names it kept claiming were doing bad stuff. So eventually I actually just looked for the file and guess what? Said file didn't even exist. McAfee is a very suspicious program although I don't have any solid evidence that they are harmful but they are definitely less helpful than windows defender.
      Easist way to delete it is going to your hard drive and searching for McAfee you'll want to just wipe all of it if you find it on your computer again that could be because it installed itself as a extension on each of your browsers. It's seriously a huge pain to get rid of it and because of that I simply cannot believe it's there to help out.
      Sorry for this mass of text but hopefully it's formatted OK seeing as I'm on mobile.

I wanted to ask for the tip back, but I didn't want look cheap so I let it go. The next day he give me a free drink. While I was eating, he came over to me, and started talking. I just wanted to eat in peace, but what do you say? "Could you please leave alone so I can eat." The next week he is eat lunch with me. Every day, week after week I eat lunch with an old Asian guy. I don't want to eat there anymore, but I know he is waiting for me. At Christmas he invited me to his home for dinner. He is holding my hand, and says he won't let go unless I promise to go. I tell him I will go. He has big family, and introduce me to them all. They all speak Chinese, then laugh after the introduction. We all set down to eat, and introduce me again. Then he goes into the story about how I give him a ten dollar tip, and acts out the story. Everyone laughs, and laughs. I guess he likes me, sort of, maybe. I go back to eating eating lunch with the guy. Can I back out? A couple of years after that he tells me he has cancer, and he going into the hospital so won't see him anymore. That night his wife ask me if I could do her a favor, and take food to her husband after work. I tell her it won't be a problem. He is in and out of the hospital, and have dinner with every night at the hospital. After he dies, his wife tells me I was his only friend, outside the family.

      You should feel honored to know that he felt that way about you. I know that I can be an asshole at times. I might have a bad day, week or month. But I will always smile at strangers. I even go out of my way to help people. I don't do it to make myself feel better. I do it because, in spite of what a shithole the world is, it's the right thing to do. You never know, things change and you could be that man who was just grateful to think someone outside his family cared about him. Sure, I will troll people online at times, like many others do. But in the real world, I will listen to other people talk about their life, problems or whatever. You learn about life in ways you never thought you would. The worst F word I can think of is, family. You can always find a new friend, but you are stuck with family. I only count my immediate family these days. After my father died, I wrote off all uncles aunts and cousins. My dad did all sorts of favors for them. They didn't do anything for him. Very few even went to see him when he was ill. If a friend tries to guilt you, they are not a friend. I would have been very happy to have known that man you talked about. I doubt you have any friends that thought that highly of you, in spite of not knowing him that well.

      @@Nu_Wen From my perspective making an official appointment with your uncle sounds ridiculous - I would compare it to telling my mother to make an appointment. I am very close both with my direct but also more distant relatives. And if I was a doctor I would enjoy being helpful and making my family be privileged.
      I guess it all depends on how close you are. Maybe in america families aren't very close but here it's strange to be so cold

    As a kid in middle school, my classmates treated me like trash. I was suffering every day in school because they either pretended I didn't exist or treated me like I wasn't a person.
    But then, conveniently, whenever they need something from me, a signature, a pencil, a calculator, my fucking books and personal items, they get all nice and say "hey friend, can I get that?" as if they expect me to give them free shit after they treated me like less of a human being.
    Then I'm the asshole when I say no. As if I'm obligated to give anyone who treats me that way a god damn thing.

      I remember being bullied relentlessly when I was in my last year of primary school (age 10-11). On the last day, suddenly everyone seemed so much more chilled out, and one of my bullies came up to me and said, "Oh well, I guess you're going to miss me." When I straight-up, flat-out said in response the singular word "No", his grinning face immediately fell. He tried a sudden snarl which I didn't flinch at, just gave up and slunk away, never to be seen again. I know it's not exactly the same thing, he didn't want anything from me (perhaps apart from some smug, last-word taunt?), but that was genuinely the most satisfying thing that happened that whole school year, and I still remember how he looked when that exchange was made.

I'd probably do the same thing but if we really wanted to make the world a little better, we would first experiment with a little "re-education" would we not? I'm sure a lot of people (and I'm not entirely innocent here) just need to be made aware. Like Louis has done to some degree to me just now.
