Louis, I really enjoy your videos, even though I'm older. ;) Your videos are full of great logical and practical info for ALL generation to take note of. When I was in my 20's I've struggled for many years to build up a successful business similar to yours, so I can really sympathize with the trials and tribulations of running daily operations you present on your channel.

Thank you! Very well said. I grow tired of the generation that expects something for nothing. I have to laugh when kids leave school and expect a salary and office like mine. Never mind I’ve been busting my ass for 20 years to get there. Great work and I have learned so much watching your videos. Take care!

I enjoy your videos. I'm a tech for above ground hot tubs. I deal with similar people like you do. My question is, what do you say to people who says "your prices are too expensive" I get that once in a while, and at times I felt like giving a rude answer like " you called my to fix your spa because you don't know how, or you paying for the convenience of having me come to your home, diagnose the problem, come up with a solution to the problem, and fix the problem"
How do you handle a situation like that. Thanks you are actually someone I look up too now.

I'm gonna be frank about this, I have almost no idea how to perform most of these things you perform, I find them really complicated to accomplish, but rather entertaining to watch.
But most of all I watch you for the way you talk and your attitude in general.
    I think you're a stand-up guy and I like you for that.

Someone I went to school with, he decided to hack my Amazon account and commit insurance fraud, he used his card, but felt that because his monitor that was a b grade panel had a dead pixel that he would call up and say it wasn't even in the box, he felt that they owed him a perfect monitor and tried to get one free. He made the mistake of telling me and I decided to call up, all I know is that his card was banned, don't know if he was ever fined or taken to court over it

    • @user-wg7nw3mh2e
      @user-wg7nw3mh2e 6 років тому +2

You can't possibly agree with everything he said here. The issue he framed his entire argument around was exactly the opposite of what he then goes on to rail against.
He claims that people of a certain undefined age feel entitled to things they did not earn. Then he sites the letter written by the Oberlin student. ...But in the letter Louis goes on to read the student Louis declaims for feeling "entitled to something they didn't earn" that student doesn't ask for or seek to gain anything for themselves. That student says specifically they are perfectly happy to take the final. HELLO? How can this person be demonstrating a sense of being entitled to something, when they very specifically and repeatedly state they are not asking for anything for themselves?
Did you just not think your comment through? Did Louis not? I'm honestly asking because you both seem completely ridiculous in citing this student as an example of entitlement.
None of that means I think the students should have gotten out of their exam
Lastly, I don't think the issue with people not utilizing the resources provided to them a millennial phenomenon. There are people who behave this way at all age ranges, I deal with 40-50 year olds like this all the time. I personally would say they are worse at least the ones I deal with, because they are less comfortable with technology and they're not likely read a forum or watch a youtube video or use deep google vodo track down the answer to a problem.

I know this video is old, but I actually fear the day you decide that the work required for these videos isn't worth it. What this channel has done for me is immeasurable, not just via tech knowledge either, but also life lessons. Despite growing up with a completely different background than you, you've somehow managed to make all of your videos relatable. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I appreciate that you feel that the fraction of your audience that genuinely value what you do, are worth it.

Louis, I am in my late 40's. I have struggled for years to learn electronics. Since I was 14 I wanted to be an electronics technician but I couldn't understand the complicated electronics books. I felt like a complete and useless idiot. I have seen your videos and have learned more in the past few months than I have in my 47 years in existence. I was a horrible student and thought I was pretty much useless. I want to thank you for changing my life. I'm finally able to understand electronics. I never thought I would be able to actually understand and grasp the idea of board repair. You are undoubtedly one of the best instructors that I've had.
I am very interested in attending the class, maybe in the next few months.
Thank You so much for all your hard work and putting in the late hours to post and edit these videos!

+Riaan de Beer Hmmm... I was ready to give another answer but yours brought a bigger perspective. I see your point.
My original point was that in my country universities are state-run. If you work hard they're free, but you can also enroll by paying. However, I feel it's normal that even if you do pay they don't owe us anything. Now, were I incapacitated to take a test - parent died, broke up with girlfriend etc. - it's on me to simply fail the exam and be ready next time. But it's on me.
I've had issues with my generation. When 3-4 exams were supposed to be scheduled, people were LIVID that someone dared schedule two of them in consecutive days. I mean, it's the professor's right to schedule it (by consulting with a head student) whenever he wants, as long as it's not at the exact time that another one was previously scheduled. It's not his concern that you have a minimum of two days between exams. But my colleagues felt entitled to their best comfort...

I am trained in electronics but the job changed from component level repairs and recalibrating on high end test equipment and telecom equipment to just pull the box out and put in a new one instead of replacing a relay that allows an alarm when ac has failed or the battery isn’t charging. I totalled my car on the way to a lab meeting. My dad came right to the accident site, gave me his keys, and told me to go. I got there half an hour late, and stayed an extra hour to make up for it. The problem isn't necessarily the millenials themselves, but I think it has to do with the older generations who failed to instill discipline. As an immigrant child, I was raised by parents who worked their assess off day and night every single day to provide for me, which managed to rub off on me. We need more parents and role models who value hard work and striving for excellence over the pursuit for success/fame/fortune.

Somewhere along the line the workforce turned from craftsmen to labor. That mentality, is a huge factor in why things are the way they are now. It is a training of a workforce, that will do exactly what you want, when you say "jump".
"Well you should do what I want because I have money and you need my money". No. I need quality relationships. People forget that business, is a trade of needs. A client has something I want, and I have something they want. What should be cultivated is good relationships, not money. Money will come, through experience and quality of work. That's how you build a name.
But, names don't mean very much any more. And that has some to do with the throw away culture with superficial attitudes.

Hey Louis. What temperature do you use your soldering iron at?
I'm glad you made this video. God it is so true. And I get that it seemed like we were jumping up and down on that guy the other day, so this really puts that into context.
I was watching Mark Shaffer's brand new UA-cam channel the other day, which I know will be fantastic over time. He posted a link on a forum of a video he made. A dozen or so questions pop right up. I can see the enthusiasm in his answers. And it made me sad because I know that he will undergo the inevitable metamorphosis from enthusiasm to fatigue. I have withdrawn from a lot of the forums I used to really enjoy.
I will be interested to see what happens with a few paid videos. You're right---if you paid $5 to watch this content, then it better be good. My hope is that paid content will both motivate me to keep the video edited, on topic, and organized. While also weeding out bogus entitlement. If you've paid $5, you are in fact entitled to ask a question about the video and deserve an answer--no resentment required. It is my hope to turn the clock back and recapture Mark's enthusiasm.
Plus, a paid video that answers the common questions is a great way to stop all the repetitive typing while answering them---just point to the video. If the asker really wants to know, then pay up, bro. If not, then feel free to go dig up the answer on your own, it's around here somewhere.
I'm excited to see how this works out....

Louis Rossmann I have always suspected that by you offering these videos people would be annoyed. By doing so it makes it hard to get answers for your own questions which impacts your business so offering paid videos would at the very least compensate for that. Maybe like Jessa a free and paid list of videos? Just a thought...

Your videos have helped me out i can't stand people who moan about people uploading videos to help other people. Don't take no notice of them idiots they just moan about everything. would like to say Thank you for your videos they helped me out repairing logic boards myself. Your videos are trust worthy unlike some of the videos which are on youtube. As a 35 year old I completely agree that those ten years my junior have this arrogant attitude towards people. I suggest that this sense of entitlement may stem from a cultural change of attitude viz. content and distribution. All music, film, game content etc is viewed as free to download. Even hardware is dirt cheap through hand me downs and credit card culture. When I was a teenager I had to work and save for my stuff, sometimes for months if I wanted a new TV or monitor. Today many of this generation expect the world to owe them a living, and they should have a 'right' to the latest gear!

+JonnyInfinite As someone who is 38, I can tell you that fifteen to twenty years ago, people your age and mine had the same attitude towards me that you now have towards the youth of today.
The previous generation got their University education for free in the UK, Millenials have to take out loans of £9000 per year, I guess when you're paying for your education, you want every break you can get.
We live in a time when the youth of today actually do have it harder than previous generations and, at least in the UK, have a government that seems to want to make it harder, while keeping this current generation of pensioners, the ones who prattle on about how spoilt Millenials are, to the life to which they're accustomed, full of perks that they get purely because they're old.
Mind you, the youth don't help themselves, they're the ones not voting. A young mother made the news because she didn't know who David Cameron, our Prime Minister, is.

    • @JonnyInfinite
      @JonnyInfinite 9 років тому +2

+GeoNeilUK I can see your point but I see this attitude more and more, I think you can draw a direct link to the riots and looting a couple of years ago in the UK to this instant gratification culture engendered by hyper-commercialism and the extreme narcissistic tendencies exacerbated by social media and the base entertainment of celebrity worship. People have forgotten how to have fun and be human beings, without coming across as hyperbolic, I think many of those under 30 have a real issue, I kind of pity them..

As you were reading this, I was sitting here telling myself that if I were the professor, I'd have given him one of those arm flapping, "fuck you"s that you do all the time. Cracks me up every time you do it. lol I personally feel so many black Americans (not African Americans, AMERICAN Americans, just as American as you me and everyone else here) are poor and living in poverty because so many people are constantly telling them that this country is so racist that you'll never find a job, so don't even bother trying, just take the government handout and be happy. And then we also started this Affirmative Action crap, where we then say to them, look, since we are so racist here, and your people have been so mistreated for so long, you are entitled to get into this school for no reason other than your skin color, regardless of the fact that your grades aren't as good as the requirements, regardless of the fact that others who have a different skin color put in much more effort and time, and got better grades, you get in. The same ends up happening for jobs after college. We are basically telling a decent chunk of our population that hard work does nothing for them, and what are the results? The projects, plain and simple. This kind of crap ruins peoples lives, and keeps generations of people poor and struggling when in all honesty, if they went out and seriously tried to get a job, they would have one, and then they would be able to support themselves and their families, live in nicer houses in the suburbs instead of cramming a family or 4-6 in a one or two bedroom apartment, you can go to any school you want, and the list goes on. But instead of economic freedom, they end up rotting in government housing. I find it morally wrong to do this to people.

Not enough people are saying this. I hire and supervised many people over the last 12 years and the younger they are the more pain in the ass they are. The older guys are willing to do the job right, they like the idea of working hard and getting payed for it and they take pride in what they do. The younger guys are always complaining and seem to want to just get done and get paid without any consideration to whether they did a good job and made the customer happy. If you ask them to do something it's always what do I get paid for it as if it isn't part of their job already. The last guy I started training with wanted me to call the owner so he could borrow money and he was with me for about 2 hours. What the hell fool, do you think he is your mom? Hard work is out the window and personal responsibility is fading fast. 2 generations of babies are being raised and I think the near future is bleak because of it. No wonder Bernie Sanders is so popular, they all think they are entitled so someone else's stuff.

The problem with you is that you are a sensible capitalist. Those types of comments likely come from socialists or socialists-at-heart who think that you should give away your valuable time and money to people who won't appreciate it enough just because you are a fellow human being. There's nothing like building a business from the ground up to make a person understand that money is not an indication of greed, it's (in most cases) a representation of what you got out of your valuable time. More money can always be earned, but more time cannot, and these people, in many cases, just aren't capable of understanding this.
You are young and wise, and while you may never be excessively rich (although you very well could be someday) you will never be poor for long enough to cause you significant grief. You are living the American Dream as it was meant to be lived, and that is AWESOME.

I disagree that this situation has anything to do with socialism. The current generation has grown up in the baby phases of the internet when most things can be acquired for free. And if it isn't, it's considered skillful to be able to find a way to get it for free.

This is probably one of the best videos I think I have seen on UA-cam. You are 100% on the ball about todays generation. People no longer give a shit about the people who cohabit the environment about them. For example I work in the public sector and 90% of the people never give a shit about, 'the guy in a uniform' or the source of what they want. There is always some reason or unreasonable excuse as to why their needs always need to be placed ahead of everyone else.
If more people communitised together and helped eachother then evolving goals and succeeding would be so much greater.
Keep up the good work and be assured it is definitely appreciated.
