      Hatred?
      Such cold clear.disdain can't possibly be for the hated.
      But the dissapointement? That tyrion is not tywin. But worse. He is tywins father in a body that suits tywins fathers form.(in tywins mind. A jester. A clown. An imp of a man)
      He is tywins father remade.
      A reminder of everything tywin isn't without Joanna. And because of him (tyrion) he (tywin) is without Joanna.

      Yes he hated him but not just for being a dwarf. I genuinely think he could have got over that.
      What must annoyed him I feel was he was a rebel, never wanted to do what his father said. He partied hard and enjoyed women and attention. He was known throughout the kingdoms as the half man but also as a drunk and whore lover. Which I'm sure for a man like tywin was much worse to hear than jokes about his dwarfism. Tywin could ignore jokes about his twins incest, but the drunk and whore lover with the sharp tongue most upset him.
      Tywin was a bad father but tyrion loved being a problem too

      @X What? probably as a reward or that he also is a whore lover in secret, this suggests that one of the reasons tywin hated tyrion was because tyrion had characteristics he held and was secretly ashamed of whilst his son could do it without a care in the world

      It's tough love. I don't think he actually hated Tyrion, he was just tired of Tyrion's BS. Wasting the crown's money on getting drunk with strangers, and sleeping with random women in Brothels instead of making a name for himself and helping Twyin's legacy and family name. As a fun fact that might reinforce this scene. Tywin had a favorite sister, one of the few people that could make him smile after his wife died and she was also Tyrion's favorite aunt. However when she once remarked to Tywin how similar Tyrion was to him in how capable and smart he was, Tywin became so angry that he didn't spoke to her in years after that. I think this scene really captures their relationship perfectly.
    Also an interesting contrast that both Tywin and Tyrion had the same favorite sister/aunt showing how similar they were which was reinforced by Shae lying on Tyiwin's bed in the end.
    PS: I think this aunt is mentioned in the show as the "fat Lannister", the mother of the Lannister that shared a cell with Jaime.

      Not too much in common of course, as Tyrion's favorite uncle was Gerion, who Tywin resented for his jovial nature and kindness to Tyrion. I don't recall if the book ever discusses Tywin's feelings regarding the man after his death though. Maybe he respected him somewhat for his desire to see Brightroar reclaimed, or maybe he thought him just a suicidal fool, prancing in the mists of doomed Valyria for a lost sword and a petty token of honor.

    This scene actually makes me cry lol. Tyrion really wanted his father to love him and be proud of him and treat him with respect. That's what he's really asking for in this scene, he literally proved himself in battle, as a family Tyrion and Tywin won the Battle of Blackwater together. Yet Tywin is as hateful and condescending as ever. Had Tywin been able to love and respect Tyrion their house name would have lived on like he so desperately wanted.

    I love how Tywin mentions his father (Tytos Lannister), then immediately mentions his father's father (Gerold Lannister). Tytos was hated by Tywin. Tytos used to "waddle about" being laughed at by the members of other houses, as Tytos threw his money around, spending it on wine and prostitutes, and Tywin mentions with Arya in S2 that Tytos "nearly destroyed our house and name." The exact same things that Tywin is accusing Tyrion of doing. He sees Tyrion as his Tytos, but in a body more suited to his behaviour in life. Tytos' father, Gerold Lannister, known as Gerold the Golden was, on the other hand, known to be exceptionally smart, quick-witted, and a very capable lord who massively increased the wealth of House Lannister. A man who was greatly respected by Tywin. Kind of funny how he immediately mentions "his father before him" after mentioning Tytos.

Tyrion, by contrast, openly enjoyed "playing the court jester," whether that be publicly dating prostitutes, pointlessly antagonizing and challenging the king, having scoundrels like Bronn at court, etc.
      Tyrion, by medieval standards (and by most public political standards), would rightly be seen as a personal and family embarrassment.

    Tyrion rose on unsteady legs, closed his eyes for an instant as a wave of dizziness washed over him, and took a shaky step toward the door. Later, he would reflect that he should have taken a second, and then a third. Instead he turned. “What do I want, you ask? I’ll tell you what I want. I want what is mine by rights. I want Casterly Rock.”
    His father’s mouth grew hard. “Your brother’s birthright?” "The knights of the Kingsguard are forbidden to marry, to father children, and to hold land, you know that as well as I. The day Jaime put on that white cloak, he gave up his claim to Casterly Rock, but never once have you acknowledged it. It’s past time. I want you to stand up before the realm and proclaim that I am your son and your lawful heir.”
    Lord Tywin’s eyes were a pale green flecked with gold, as luminous as they were merciless. “Casterly Rock,”he declared in a flat cold dead tone. And then, “Never.”
    The word hung between them, huge, sharp, poisoned. I knew the answer before I asked, Tyrion said. Eighteen years since Jaime joined the Kingsguard, and I never once raised the issue. I must have known. I must always have known.
    “Why?” he made himself ask, though he knew he would rue the question. “You ask that? You, who killed your mother to come into the world? You are an ill-made, devious, disobedient, spiteful little creature full of envy, lust, and low cunning. Men’s laws give you the right to bear my name and display my colors, since I cannot prove that you are not mine. To teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about wearing that proud lion that was my father’s sigil and his father’s before him. (Obviously not Tyrion's fault, but going off Tywin's logic.) While I think deep down, he has a grudging respect for Tyrion, it's too covered in his disappointment that it was Tyrion the dwarf that was most like him instead of Jaime or even Cersei, disappointment and embarrassment in his whoring and drinking, (which is probably some projecting and generational shame as we clearly see later that Tywin is not so above whoring as he claims and acts,) and grief turned hate for his wife to truly ever be considered love. I think Tywin is certainly capable of loving his family, as we see with him and Tommund, but there's just too much covering any possible love he may have for Tyrion to be even considered that anymore imo

      Tirions performance as Hand of the King did impress Tywin, at least somewhat. The problem was that due to Tirion's deformity, Tywin raised his expectations nearly to the ceiling. Tirion did cut back on whoring, limiting himself to a single courtesan, and he did cut down on drinking, and he rose to the challenge of being Hand of the King. However, Twyin probably was expecting little to no drinking, no whoring at all, and sole consumption of Tirion's time with his duties, as Tywin often is. An unrealistic expectation, honestly. Still, I'm not sure Tirion ever could have been "good enough" for Tywin.

    Tywin has generally been a character I couldn’t come to hate due to his extreme intelligence and presence but this scene is an exception. Tyrion’s been looked down upon by the whole world, including his father and sister, for being a dwarf and ‘killing’ his mother, something he can’t control. This unfortunately happens in real life too, so many awful parents are biased against certain children for qualities and characteristics they can do nothing about

  • @adamrobinette6832

    Their relationship is the most interesting on the show. Tywin sees Tyrion's strategic abilities, leadership skills, and intelligence as right up there with his own, which is why he made him hand of the King, and he has deep conversations with him about running the kingdom more than any other character. Tyrion's is the only opinion other than his own that he gives any consideration to when it comes to matters of leadership. Yet the things that disgust him about Tyrion, specifically the way he chooses to live, is pretty much entirely due to Tywin never properly accepting him as his son and being disgusted by his existence.

      @@carloscortez6842 Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul or two of the greatest shows in modern television. But those shows are grounded in a real world mythology.
      There has never been a fantasy show that has equaled Game of Thrones at its zenith. Nothing with its budget; its cinematic grandeur; its effects; or its massive cast.
      Breaking Bad was an intimate show that focused on Walter White's exploits. The show revolved around him. Game of Thrones was an ensemble show with a slew of plotlines all going on at once.
      The notion that they are comparable in that respect is absurd. Game of Thrones stands alone that aspect. Game of Thrones wasn't able to do what Breaking Bad did within its wheelhouse, and Breaking Bad couldn't do what Game of Thrones did within its wheelhouse. Even as he was being held at gun point, he didn’t care about calling Shane a whore. I remember some dialogue about a prank Tywin did to Tyrion when he was young. Tywin hired a whore to pretend to love and marry Tyrion. Both of these scenarios paint a story about Tywin never allowing Tyrion to have true love because he took his true love away from him.

  • @user-nv2wt4hi8t

    Possibly the most anger inducing scene in the show. Tyrion rounded up the known thieves, he organised the defence of the city and held it long enough for Tywin's reinforcements to come, he fought on the battlefield and rallied the men when both the Hound and King Joffrey ran, while Cersei sat in her chambers drinking wine before bringing Tommen to meekly commit suicide in fear of Stannis. Tywin says 'Jugglers and singers require applause' as if it's reserved for the lowly entertainment but that's why King Joffrey and co awarded 600 knighthoods in the post-battle ceremony? But Tyrion's above any praise for being the key component in saving the city, aside from the Tyrell-Lannister last minute alliance and Stannis' forces thinking Loras (not in the books but in the show) was Renly's ghost and being spooked into retreating. 'You are a Lannister', so you reserve that for being said when it means Tyrion is denied any recognition for his fantastic performance as Hand of the King and yet at the same time Tywin foams at the mouth at the very idea that his unwanted son was absolutely critical to saving all he held dear and doing so in the name of the family Tywin argues to love and support for the sake of it's dynasty. What an ego-maniacal piece of shit. People gloss over Tywin's atrocities and overemphasize any small thing Tyrion does because of Charles Dance's ridiculously awesome performance but make no mistake, Tywin is a narcissistic, hypocritical heap of shit and never more so than when denying the capabilities and position of Tyrion as the most useful Lannister child, followed by Jaime and then a deep gap to Cersei.

    • @user-nv2wt4hi8t
      @user-nv2wt4hi8t 2 роки тому

      @Anjelica Snorcket Exactly. Eye for an eye. Tywin should have been proud given how malicious and focused on creating constant vendettas Cersei is. Tywin ravaged Castamere and forced Jaime to lie to Tyrion about Tysha before forcing Tyrion to have sex with her after she'd been forced to sleep with his guards. This sounds right up his alley.

    • @user-nv2wt4hi8t
      @user-nv2wt4hi8t 2 роки тому

      @Anjelica Snorcket He happily ordered a plethora of his guards to sexually violate a young girl one after the other, manipulated Tyrion, his SON, through his other son Jaime, into thinking this young, sweet girl he'd married was a whore only interested in him for his riches and mentally abused Tyrion, forcing him into sleeping with this girl while the latter had been lied by Tywin into thinking she was nothing more than an uncaring whore and not the one person who ever loved Tyrion for who he is. And Tywin made damn sure to emotionally and physically damage her and Tyrion forever. The man is off his trolley, only short of true lunatics like Joffrey and Ramsey who can't even disguise their atrocities, unlike Tywin who hides it into the pretence of 'family' and 'legacy', which, given his behaviour and crimes, is a crock.

You might do with reading those books a few more times to actually get what's going on as this is day one stuff.

He has a large body of work throughout his career and yet is only known for 1 serious role. I think a lot of mainstream actors get overlooked simply for being mainstream that are better actors overall with a lot more diversity to their craft. Men's laws give you the right to bear my name and display my colors, since I cannot prove that you are not mine. To teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about wearing that proud lion that was my father's sigil and his father's before him.
