Tywin Lannister tells Tyrion to go to King's Landing to act as Hand of the king. The firs time in the show which Tyrion appears not to be a total disappointment to his father and be treated as a normal son of house Lannister. - Розваги
"Not you"
"Me, my lord?"
"No Kevan, goddammit you ruined the moment!"
In the book Kevan is actually a part of this scene.
LMAOOOOOOO
Tywin cares to give a dramatic impression while Kevan cares to be practical lol
@@elnombredelarosa3167 That highlights their personality. Tywin is all about showing his Lannister colors by setting examples while Kevan does all the background work for him.
Kevan was Tywin's trusted right hand. Tywin ran his plans through Kevan, because Kevan was every bit as cunning and intelligent as Tywin. He was content to serve under Tywin's shadow.
Yeah, that's the irony. He loves the son least that inherited the trait he is most proud of - his wit.
@@Mynamedjxndndb As much as I like this theory to be correct, I am afraid it's not, although evidence from future seasons have pointed otherwise. But still I believe if that was so then Tywin would never have let the dwarf live. He would've killed him there and then. Tywin is a person who stops at nothing..absolutely nothing to uphold his family name and saving it from getting tarnished. Tyrion is indeed Tywin's son. And if I am wrong then..Holy fucking Shit!!!
@@Mynamedjxndndb That wouldn't be possible if Tyrion was conceived in Casterly Rock instead of King's Landing. Besides the point, it wouldn't make any more narrative sense which is that Tyrion would have a claim on the throne despite not interested to the throne's inheritance and it would make a bigger mess of the inheritance since in the book there's already two heirs and many claimants to the throne. I doubt GRRM would write that since Tyrion has his own storyline to play and adding to a Targaryen bloodline on it is too much.
"That's where you're wrong, father. I am you writ small."
I wouldn't say wit but overall intelligence. Even then, Tyrion admits he's far smarter than himself
The egg and sperm of many species is such that the interaction between the two is mutually assured destruction
Love the way Charles Dance says “You were right about Eddard Stark”. You can tell that Tywin hates telling Tyrion anything positive about him.
Nah, that’s not it-it’s more of a pensive tone. he’s surprised Tyrion is more than what he originally thought.
@@janpablo7 When he looked back to when Tyrion made the cup analogy, he thought he was speaking his mind so he knew that he can send someone who thinks like him to King's Landing to sort out the idiotic mother and son since they both don't know how to rule like Tywin can.
The tone you're thinking of is the one he used to say "you're my son"
I think he hates acknowledging what he knows deep down: That Tyrion is his true heir. Tyrion embodies all of the Lannister family, not just the prestine image Tywin seeks to project. He embodies the extreme intellect, cunning, wit, judgement but also the whoring, pride, and facetiousness that has characterized the lannister family since Lann himself.
I think Tywin admits this painfully because he disliked Tyrion for his appearance yet he realised that Tyrion is very smart and capable. He thought that Tyrion was worthy of upholding his authority in King’s Landing because he was highly intelligent, and knew that upholding the family’s legacy by aiding the King would prove crucial to their family’s reputation and relationship with the Crown.
Probably the closest I've ever seen Tywin actually care for Tyrion. Then again, maybe he selected him as Hand of the King because he needed everyone else in the war.
jessc1979 It was more to do with the fact that if Jaime were to be killed while captured, Tyrion would be Tywin's heir and thus Tywin figured he might as well groom Tyrion to lead.
UndisputedElite But lead what? He wasn't going to get Casterly Rock.
jessc1979 Again, it all came down to if Jaime were to be killed, Tywin would have no other heir but Tyrion. And as we later see, since Jaime is still alive, Tywin planned to have him released from the Kingsguard and able to inherit. Tyrion was just a backup plan essentially. That and he wouldn't be a bootlicker to Joffrey and Cersei
UndisputedElite I don't think Tywin would've given Casterly Rock to Tyrion even if Jaime had died or if he already knew that Jaime would remain in the Kingsguard. The way he told Tyrion 'no' pretty much confirms that.
+jessc1979 Tywin feared Tyrion.
Someone mentioned this before but I feel the need to reiterate: if Tyrion and Tywin actually worked together, they could conquer everything.
That would make a very boring story.
@@buca9696 Are you kidding? It would be probably the most genius war even fought
@@buca9696 The way they both do politics, espionage and war? It would have elevated the show from what we ended up getting. Not to mention the compelling idea of Tyrion being accepted by Tywin as his son truly for once. You could literally form a whole series around it.
His pride was his undoing. If he were a wiser man, he would have had the foresight to see the glory his son Tyrion could have brought him and the family, but he couldn't see past his physical "deformity". Instead, he died on the toilet a hypocrite.
Would they do though? Both are intelligent and can be ruthless, but so are a lot of other characters in the show (The Starks, Olenna, etc.). I think they would be very formidable, but to say they'd conquered it all is a long stretch. Even here they're working together and Rob Stark is whooping their candy asses all over Westeros.
Tywin: did i ever mention how much i love you, tyler?
Tyrion: it's tyrion
Tywin: same thing
Best comment here lmfao
Upon hearing "Because you are my son," everyone, including Tryion thought or hoped it meant Tywin's fatherly love for Tyrion.
However, after seeing how things ended, I think Tywin's statement rather meant that Tyrion's status as "Tywin's son" would give him the ability to control Jofferey and Cersei. Something no other Lannister could do.
Interestingly, Jaime's aunt tells him:
"Tyrion is Tywin’s son, not you. I said so once to your father’s face, and he would not speak to me for half a year. Men are such thundering great fools. Even the sort who come along once in a thousand years."
It was because Tywin was sure Jaime was dead and Tyrion was his only choice, so Tyrion all the suddenly became his son, something Tywin always refused to accept
"you're my son" as intended by Tywin clearly seems to be double-edged, he means it in the sense of Tyrion's status. Sending his son (as opposed to his brother or some other Lannister) means he carries the weight of Tywin himself. But he also is clearly manipulating Tyrion's emotions here also to suit his needs. As much as he chooses to wrongly overlook his children's personal desires, he understands how they function under normal circumstances better than I think is recognized. It's the times when they act outside of how he traditionally has seen that Tywin's understanding fails him in all three cases (after Jaime's capture and mutilation, after Joffrey's murder for Cersei, and after Tyrion is sentenced to death).
This scene is actually explained in the books and *andres neira* is right. Tyrion is actually *livid* when Tywin says this, because Tyrion understands Tywin is doing it because he wrote Jaime off as dead and Tyrion was all he was left with.
I think at that point Tywin is resigned to Jaime being a dead man. When he tells Tyrion 'you are my son' he means it. But not out of any sort of love or sudden epiphany, he's saying it because he has no other choice.
I don't know why, but it never occured to me how pissed off Tywin was about Ned getting killed. They had a perfect captive to pretty much demand from the Starks anything they wanted, and Joffrey fucked it all up.
cause Joffrey an idiot like his mom and cause this old idiot was not there to stop it
Tywin made two fatal mistakes: first, not seizing the irone throne for himself when Aerys die, and, second, not bursting through the gates of Kingslanding like a boss immediately following Robert's death -- by the time he arrives at KL he's like "Look at all this shit I have to clean up now".
@@yusufkoroma7124 take the throne after Aerys???? How? The main reason he defected was because they were low on numbers. You think Robert would just bend the knee to Tywin and say “oh yeah your chill unlike your friend”? He literally defected to the rebellion because he was not going to tarnish his family’s name by siding with the losing side.
@@zeokingsilver Joffrey accomplished to be far was worse than Cersei. She wanted Ned alive until they could sent him to the Night's Watch. He was just a reckless fiend who wanted to torture and kill everybody who stand in his way.
When Joffrey died she already had lost the control on him. I go as far as to say that if Joffrey had the chance to grown up, Cersei would be soon in the endangered species list.
@@yusufkoroma7124 One of the main reason Robert got the throne was because he would’ve been king anyway if Aerys and his children were all dead since he is their closest relative period. So with Viserys and Daenerys deposed he was the rightful King
its interesting in the book tyrion is bitter about his status change. he sees it as Tywin giving Jaime up for dead and settling begrudgingly on himself, who is his last boy and last possible heir.
You still see that in this scene, tyrion's glimmer of a smile fades upon Tywin giving the answer "you're my son," which is when Tyrion realized why he was being chosen as hand in the books as well. Unlike in the books, we are unable to actually see into Tyrion's mind and hear his inner monologue but they do show his distaste.
Interestingly, he might not had been entirely correct. Jaime's aunt tells him:
"Tyrion is Tywin’s son, not you. I said so once to your father’s face, and he would not speak to me for half a year. Men are such thundering great fools. Even the sort who come along once in a thousand years."
@@shevek2954 She didn't mean that literally, merely that in terms of personality Tyrion is far more similar to Tywin than Jaime is.
@@shevek2954that quote is pointing out the biggest weakness in Tywin. His hatred over Tyrion “killing” his wife/dwarfism blinds him of the fact that Tyrion is the one who inherited his genius. Tyrion, if treated like Jaime from birth, would’ve made the Lannisters unstoppable for another 70+ years.
It is so sad that Tyrion realized that his father selected him because he had actually given up on Jaime's life. He saw that his father called him "Son" only as a tool to be used, and discarded Jaime cause he thought he was going to die. Then after Jaime is saved we see the 180 shift he has on Tyrion. Tyrion's conflicting emotions on his family gave so much depth, but we clearly see his definite emotions towards his brother Jaime and Jaime was the only that treated him with love and respect even when he was furious against Tyrion for killing their dad.
His face...I want to hug Tyrion so bad.
@@analauramorelrocha2383 It is very sad, even as a fictional character, it is a horrible thing to see that this does happen in real life, and that historically it has happened.
you're wrong here I guess. After the battle of blackwater bay, tyrion demanded of his rights (casterly rock) from his father and tywin refused and treated him so harsh. at that time jamie was still captured.
Tywin trusted tyrion and made him hand of the king because he realised that tyrion has a good strategic mind. but tywin expected only one thing in return, that tyrion should stay away from any whores, which he couldn't. thats why tywin lost the faith in him. Tywin was strictly against tyrion loving whores
@@ISHAN419 Bro, Tywin told Tyrion to his face that he intended to drown him at birth, and basically called him a monster because of his dwarfism. Also, later he intended to have Tyrion killed. Tywin never cared for Tyrion, he indeed saw that Tyrion was smart, and indeed hated that he loved Tyrion's habits of drinking and paid women, but he also saw Tyrion as a shame to House Lannister because of his birth. The books even clearly indicate this, the ONLY one in the family that really Loved Tyrion was Jaimie but even the latter would hurt his brother at the behest of Cersei.
Guess you need to read the Books more, and even rewatch the series.
Jaime was not captured in that scene@@ISHAN419
I love the moment at 1:18
It looks like Tywin is being a dick to Tyrion to usual and Tyrion's weary-upset expression shows it, but then Tywin starts pouring Tyrion a generous serving of wine and the expression on his face turns to "What's going on..." confusion.
I saw it more as he wanted to pour for him himself so that Tyrion doesn't drink too much
Is this poison? Is it finally going to happen?
Especially in comparison to Tyrion’s arrival with the hill folk when Tywin grabbed the pitcher to move it away from Tyrion.
Tywin played game of thrones better than anyone else. such a powerful character
He was a chess master
god charles dance was amazing. that man was born to be Tywin Lannister.
@@Cissablack708 best character of GOT in my opinion
i wonder y there were no gaurds outside tywin's room when tyrion came to kill him
@@hiddendagger7291 Same thing happens again and again in the show. The old Frey with Arya posing as a maid; the Iron Born old chap killed by his brother in a bridge; Lysa killed by little finger; Roose killed by Ramsay (one guard is present). It's getting so common that it smells like plot hole. Wonder if it's the same in the book.
This scene is actually super tragic in retrospect. Tywin's back is to a wall, his feet are to the fire, and only now with no other option is he forced to utilize the intelligence and quality of his smartest, most loyal child. But once he has some breathing room, he goes back to hating on him, and tries to have him killed. And everything he claims to hate Tyrion for? The whoring, the lying, the arrogance? Tywin is guilty of the exact same thing, only WORSE because he is under the delusion that he isn't. And ultimately, that's why Tywin hates Tyrion. He isn't beautiful. The ugliness of his house can't be covered up with aesthetics and platitudes, and it reminds Tywin that the "nobility" of house Lannister is all a smoke-screen. Lann the Clever was an underhanded bastard, Jamie and Cersei aren't very smart (cunning and capricious, but not intelligent) and are guilty of some Borgia-level perversion, and Tywin ran his family's gold dry and whores with the SAME WHORE he berates Tyrion for loving.
That is a superb analysis of Tywin, projecting his flaws and insecurities on to Tyrion. Freud would have loved the Lannisters!
The thing with Tywin though is that he's not got any openly known vices he's very discreet about that part of his life whereas all his children have well known vices Cersei's is wine, Jaime's is Cersei 🤮 and Tyrions is wine and whoring. Throughout the series you never see Tywin letting his guard down he's always on guard for trouble and slights. And the only time you see him drop his guard is on the night he died Tyrion caught him off guard and had the advantage that's why Tywin said lets discuss it in his room because he was in a vulnerable position being on the toilet in his room he could be commanding and dominant because thats HIS turf so to speak
They say we hate things that remind of ourselves the most
Well said
Great analysis
“And now madness… madness and stupidity”! I can’t think of line in the entire show that makes me chuckle more.
It's tragic to realize that Tywin isn't calling Tyrion "my son" because his heart has changed; he's saying it because given the situation, he has no choice but to place that value on him.
The book did a great job explaining why Tywin did this. It wasn’t care for Tyrion, or doing what’s best for the kingdom. Jaime was captured, and Tywin assumed that his heir would soon be dead, which means he needed to elevate the next in line to a higher position.
Nope. This scene happens from Tyrion’s perspective, no? So anything thats said in the book scene is from an unreliable narrator. Sure, I’m sure some this is partly true, but I really do think Tywins motivation in making Tyrion hand, is because he has a hunch that it’s his best move.
Wouldn’t Jaime being in the Kingsguard technically make him heir to nothing? Wasn’t this a huge reason for Tywin resigning as the Mad King’s Hand?
Tywin sent Tyrion to act as Hand of the King, simply to groom him.
Lol and also because Cersei made a royal mess of things in Kings Landing so he needed to send someone competent to get things in order.
@@rickeyalexander5174 Yes, but Tywin always held out hope that Jaime would leave the Kingsguard at some point.
madness and stupidity he just described Joffrey perfectly
Imagen if tywinn and tyrion got along could've ruled the fucking planet lmao
And the shows writing post season 4
Tywin is really pragmatic, and even if he hates Tyrion, he knows he's his most competent child and is too smart to let someone as hot headed as Cersei be the hand especially when the stakes are so high.
and yet he tried ti kill him in s4 for no reason
s1 tywin is my favorite. cant believe they ruined him later on
This isn't just pragmatism, its fear. Jaime captured, his army defeated and no hope of peace, Tywin is making use of an asset he has always known that he had. "I always thought you were a stunted fool" is a lie, Tywin has known Tyrion's worth for a long time but was too proud to let him know it.
@@nickdziura7373 why does he deny Tyrions genius later on though in s3? He acts like Tyrion did nothing as hand
@@wcsdiaries Because deep down Tywin is arrogant and vain. He knows Tyrion saved kings landing but he'll never admit it because he resents Tyrion for being a dwarf and for killing his mother in childbirth.

"I've always loved you backup son i mean Tyrion"
Yep this is the correct interpretation of this scene lol
Tywin is such an amazing strategist. I think he picked Tyrion for a bunch of different reasons. He knows his son isn’t an idiot and will probably do a good job at ruling, but he also knows if King’s Landing is attacked in the war, there’s a good chance he’ll be killed. Such an evil bastard but my absolute favorite character.
He placed Tyrion there because he realized that that was the best move he had, not because he was to be killed there. Cersei is there, his grandsons are there. They'll all be killed if Stannis attacked King's Landing. He put him there because that was the best decision.
@@janvincentsacramento6060 It was the only real option he had, not neccesarily the best.
Jaime's captured and at that point he had little hope of him returning alive due to Ned's death and Arya's disapearance (although he only learns of that later) which no doubt would've been interpreted as a "silent kill" by the starks and would've led to the execution of Jaime.
Tyrion had no place in a war room, he could barely mount a horse and proven in the battle prior to this scene, not a great warrior.
So that would've led to Tyrion being send to either Casterly Rock and wait out the war- which Tywin didn't want to do because of his fear of his son turning it into a whorehouse or to King's landing where he'd have a purpose and ensure that Cercei and Joffrey wouldn't do any more rash decisions and making sure the council were still on Lannister side.
@@stormbreaker415 Tyrion did mount an effective defense of kings landing that allowed them to hold out long enough for reinforcements to arrive
The small plays of control really add up. Like Tywin seeing Tyrion stand and walk but he waits for him to get to the door to tell him to stay. Then immediately stops him pouring a new drink just so he could pour it himself. Those small things do alot to show you what their relationship is like as father and son when they aren't sharing scenes together in the show
In the book Tyrion was more mad than surprised and rightfully so. Tywin knows Jaime is as good as dead so that’s the only reason he warms up to Tyrion
Probably the nicest thing Tywins ever did for him, even if it was only out of desperation
2:54 is Tyrion’s face when he realizes Tywin has given up his brother for dead
The series hardly focusses on the fact that Tywin did NOTHING to save Jaime.
@@leonpaelinck Aside from beating Robb Stark in the war I don't see what he realistically could have done. Cersei sends people to attempt to rescue him in the second book and it instantly fails.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 yes, but that was Cersei. Tywin arranged the red wedding from half a country away.
for those wondering the reason why tywin says your my son to tyrion is casue hes given up on jamie - believing the northerners will kill him, leaving tyrion as his only male heir (not including joffrey or tommen)
such a great lineup of actors. Charles Dance nailed this role
How do people always know who needs to stay when he just says "not you"
Maybe Tywin would havd adressed anyone else by name
Maybe it's assumed that Tywin wanted to name Tyrion "Notyu".
I get the feeling that the men were starting to respect Tyrion as a frontline strategist and Tywin didn't want Tyrion to get more support from the other men so he sent him back to essentially babysit Joffrey while making it seem like he was giving Tyrion a gift in the form of a honorable position. Tyrion wanted so desperately for Tywin's gesture of temporarily making him Hand of the King to be a sign of love and respect that he didn't see it for what it actually was, just another way to get rid of Tyrion and have him out of the way.
I am not so sure. There are a hundred ways he could have gotten rid of him. I think Tywin did this out of necessity and not love, but the hand of the king is no joke. It has real power, and Tywin needed his help. I think this is a great demonstration of trust and respect, even if it is not one of love.
"Heads, spikes, wall" the good old days
It's funny how Tywin only ever considered Tyrion his son when he assumed Jaime was a dead man or when he was facing a loaded crossbow.
I really like how Tyrion immediately answers "heads, spikes, walls." to any hint of treason and Tywin gives that big nod as if that's the exact direction he was going in.
Tyrion was Tywin's son.
...not you.
hearing tywin tell tyrian he is his son and showing him a shadow of love or respect is honestly super heart wrenching to me. after seeing the show and reading the books and seeing how shittily his father usually treats him, seeing this smidget of affection is potent and must mean a lot to tyrian (who still wrongly thought he may have a small chance of gaining casterly rock, his rightful inheritance, and his fathers respect at this point)
Of all adjectives, you really had to use “smidget?” Lmao
@@caguioaness Freudian slip 💀
This scene is even more tense in the books, because when Tywin says ‘You are my son.’, there is the implication that he means ‘You are my only son.’ He put more trust in Tyrion because he needed to in order to continue his legacy.
The sad thing is that Tyrion was literally Tywin's only child that could rule competently, but his own personal ego and hatred for Tyrion wouldn't allow him to teach Tyrion properly or raise him to full potential.
If you think how much time Tywin in vain poured into teaching by Jamie or Cercsei he could have poured in equal time to Tyrion, Tyrion would have been one of the greatest leaders in history. Plus would have made the Lannisters probably unstoppable.
But at the end he would only turned to Tyrion when his back was up against the wall because he always knew no matter how badly he treated Tyrion, Tyrion would always be loyal and was actually competent.
One of the things I always hated about the show(later seasons)was the cutting of Genna Lannister, Jaimes aunt. Wed to one of Walder Freys sons(not even his heirs)by her gentle father Tytos just to make Frey happy, Tywin spoke against the match as a boy of five. She talks about some parts of Tywin we never got to see, like how he smiled when he killed the last Tarbecks, when he wed Joanna and when his twins were born. One of her best lines is how she tells Jaime that Tyrion is Tywins son, the one most like him, as Jaime is more like his uncle's and his mother(as he has true empathy and kindness). Apparently, when she said the same to Tywin, he refused to speak to him for half a year.
All would have been around the taking of Riverrun and would have been better than the Dornish roadtrip and the crappy short story we got with Blackfish being killed(he escaped in the book by swimming upriver).
I love the look of surprise on Tyrion's face when Tywin pours him wine
he's like what kind of sorcery is this
I hear "They have my son!" when I fall asleep at night. This mf was so badass
Tyrion filled out his CV in a matter of months. He spent 30 years doing nothing with his life and in two months he organizes mountain tribes to be his body guard and wins the day as the vanguard in a battle no one was meant to win.
'Not you' they kindest line Tywin ever told Tyrion

"You're my son."
Tyrion looked like he wanted to ask "Are you feeling all right?"
First time watching the scene: "Aww, he does value Tyrion somewhat - sending him to KL to be HoK in his stead"
After the scene where he rejects Tyrion's demand for Casterly Rock: "Guy's a bastard, but what a brilliant manipulator"
True but he told him not to bring that bitch to court and yet and still he did not listen. Plus his father even said look here son stop trying to look for approval even for me just do your damn job and do it better because you're a Lannister.
Yep, Tywin was a soulless and ruthless prick but he was also a brilliant strategist, and in the end that's what won the war and made his family so powerful.
I love how Tywin Lannister turns to Tyrion Lannister to be hand of the king cause that’s his only option

I absolutely adore this scene. It’s the only scene off the top of my head that I think Tyrion and Tywin actually get along and agree on something. They were both talking strategy and if they put their differences aside more often they would’ve been a force.
Tywin and Tyrion together scheming would’ve been almost impossible to stop.
He said "you will not take that Hoowah to court'🤣🤣🤣🤣
The way that you get the sell in the show and you feel how convincing it is that Tywin may actually respect and care for his son but in the books you can read Tyrion's thoughts and he immediately guesses that this respect has only come about because his brother has been captured and Tywin now has no other choice for the next head of House Lannister after he's gone. Which is all his father really cares about.

Tywin pouring tyrion a glass of wine shows that he has a very new found respect for him in this scene. He finally realised the brain his son has, even if it was closer to the ground then normal
Agree💯 He should've been sitting on the Iron Throne in the end💯
in the books tywin hands him his own cup and he doesn't do it because he's smart or anything he gives up on jaime assuming he's dead that's why he treats tyrion dearly in this scene thinking he's his only heir left and instead of feeling proud or cheer up tyrion understands the reason tywin treats him so and think to himself you have already given up on my brother haven't you? And want to stab him right in the chest
This is where you had him, Tywin

I think he would have been a better king then who ended up as king.
The pre-season 5 Tyrion....yes !
You'd be dead.
Poor Tywin won't admit he acknowledges Tyrion's wit. Just says "You are my son". That's pathetic
the way tyrion saw his father filled his cup was like "what the f is going on here?????"
I remember watching this at the same time Charles dance voiced Emhyr Var Emreis, best voice actor ever.
I bet everyone but Kevan was like "well the dwarf makes a point"
Tywin was very tallent charecter indeed!!!!
Like any child looking for fathers approval no matter how old he is
The narrative from the books when Tywin has his outburst is of Tyrion thinking "You bastard; you've given up on him".
Tyrion reaches for the jar of wine.
Tywin grabs it; Tyrion grimaces - expecting another scathing admonition.
Tywin proceeds to pour him a drink.
Tyrion: "What the actual f---- !"
I think he did that so Tyrion didn't pour himself too much wine. Tywin despises alcoholism and over-indulging in general.
Weirdly, even though Tywin hated Tyrion, we see him strategizing with him far more than any other child.
0:54 they have my son. This scene was the only scene where tywin actually felt weak and robb was strongest
I loved that scene,The only time Tywin showed any kind of real recognition of Tyrian bein his son.
Tywin manipulated Tyrion by buttering him up becasue he needed him to do a good job. Love withheld unless you bow in service. The trademark of a narcissist.
He was saving "you are my son" for a time when he really needed it. He took hand of the king away at the first opportunity.
This was the closest moment that I actually see Tywin feared losing the war with Jaime losing half of his army & he himself being taken hostage. If only Stan is focused on teaming up with Robb to defeat what's left of Tywin's army instead of obsessing over king's landing the ending would have been much different
Robb's mistake was not brokering a deal with the Martels, Tyrells and Baratheons. King of the North shouldn't have been about one kingdom breaking free. But all breaking free. No one liked the Lannisters and no one liked being tethered to King's Landing. Give everyone what they want by going back to seven kingdoms. Stannis can have King's Landing, Casterly Rock could go to Renly. And the Martels would have their revenge on the House that killed members of their family.
Robb was great at military tactics. But he was not a good politician.
When Tywin poured the glass of wine for Tyrion, the level was higher than when he drank from the glass. I think Tyrion got shorted.
Tywin had a little moment at 2.41 nodding as in to say that’s my boy.
Tywin respected Tyrion because he they thought alike. And they both knew that
Season 1 to Season 3 was god tier drama and politics
"Not you number two."

If only Tywin could have seen the intelligence in Tyrion. They could of both ruled as father and son.
I was just thinking that myself. If Tywin has cared for Tyrion the same way he did about Jamie, the two of them together would have been nigh unstoppable.
Admittedly Joffrey would still need to be dealt with, but the faith militant wouldn’t have gotten so powerful, the sept wouldn’t have needed blown up and the whole of Westeros wouldn’t have become the mess it’s become
I love what if stories. And having Tywin and Tyrion work together even if only for practicality would have been more marvelous to see
He DOES see it. He intentionally ignores it due to his hatred. Later when Tywin was winning the war his attitude to tyrion was just like before.
❤ so good
Whenever tywin pours u a glass of wine, means he needs you and is asking u to do something
tywin was lowkey a great dad
I can’t believe they left out Tyrion saying “why not a bigger man?”
"Oh and one more thing... you will not take that who-ur(?) to court."
"Not you"
Thanks Tywin for gifting us with the best bit of television ever in season 2 with Tyrion as hand of the king
"You are my son". That is such a clever red herring. To the casual onlooker, it appears as if Tywin wants to say that he cares for Tyrion with those words. However, seasoned veterans of the show know better. Tywin hates Tyrion with every fiber of his being and would wish for nothing else than for him to never even having been born, but BECAUSE he is a Lannister and more to the point, his own son, Tywin wants to put him in places of power because in the end, what's good for Tyrion is good for the Lannister family. That's the thing, Tywin cares about nothing else but his family, it's hammered into us all throughout the show "the name, the family, his children", but the issue is that while he seeks to better them, he doesn't have genuine affection for any of them. He is the uncaring father who wants his children to succeed without necessarily loving any of them. And most certainly not Tyrion. So, the "you are my son" is not any kind of declaration of affection, it is a simple, matter-of-fact statement.
I say so what if he hates his son his father gave him complete orders not to bring sha to court and yet still he did not listen also he demanded to be the heir of castly Rock that really pissed his father off more.
One could even say he never cared about "his" family, only about "the" family. Obsessed with legacy, like many great people struggling with their own mortality
At that moment Tyrion would have marched into battle for his father.
I actually think the show portrays tywins love for tyrion in a weird kind of lannister way.
Tywin: Hates Tyrion
Also Tywin: Knows everyone else is so useless he trusts Tyrion for the task anyway.
Cunning Tywin - He bought Tyrion’s obedience and loyalty with just 4 words! He knew Tyrion’s obsession for his father’s approval and he used it! Best example of how a mere factual statement used at the right time for a right listener in the right context can weigh more than a universe between the time it was said and heard! As we know later, Tyrion was ready to fight and sacrifice himself for the people who never gave a damn about him or saw him worth anything more than a stunted fool, these 4 words being the reason! GRRM is a legend as are these two characters!!
Tyrion making more sense than any of Tywin's generals. Tywin recognized this and decided Tyrion would be an ok hand
It's such a brutal dichotomy. Tywin is his father. Tywin respects and admires Tyrion for his wit and wisdom, something very very few people in that world can lay claim to and rivals his own. He also respects and admires Tyrion's unwavering resolve to survive and thrive in a world that hates him just because he's small. And you would think that, being his father and that he admires and respects him that he thus loves and is proud of him too right? Wrong, he's utterly ashamed of him, wishes he'd never been born, and resents him for the death of his wife.
I’d love to take a trip from Godseye to the Redfork
Imagine if Tyrion didn’t bring her. Tywin might have showed him a tiny bit more respect when he got there.
Yeah I think that's subtly implied in the book, like Tywin genuinely did give him a chance to show he could be "better", but was pissed off when he realised he still kept around whores and mercenaries and got drunk.
He would find a reason anyways, the man kept an entire folder of loathing for his youngest
Tywin seeing how much his support, recognition & basic acknowledgment means to Tyrion, and goes on to treat him like he did anyway was at the very least a disgrace, and foolish at most.
