Excellent scene. When Joffrey insulted Tywin and the entire room went dead silent was amazing. Everyone, even Joffrey, knew he messed up. The look Cersei gives him, staring daggers, as to say "what Tyrion said about Kings dropping like flies is very real when you try your arrogance with Tywin".
With the subtly haunting tune in the background and the sinister look on Tywin’s face, you can’t help but think back to those days at the end of the rebellion, visualizing images of the defenseless capital being needlessly sacked and the queen and her children being raped and butchered, all on Tywin’s orders. This short scene gives us a rare glimpse into the true visage of the man behind the veil of stoicism and wisdom. A vicious and ruthless psychopath who will do anything and everything to maintain the flawed power structure he has spent his entire life stepping over bones to achieve. That’s the real Tywin Lannister, and all the pretentious and contradictory speeches about family, legacy, and leadership that he can conjure, will not change the true nature of his schemes.
Yea, very haunting indeed. One often question would he ordered many family members killed he found useless if it so suited him in better circumstances. If it meant keeping the family name strong. Would he had Geoffrey die in a freak accident? Cause it very well looks that way.
@@olofacosta3192 He did admit to Tyrion that he'd cast him into the ocean if he hadn't bared the Lannister name. And note I said if they were useless to him. Family is all that is keeping the useless/incompetent alive.

The casting for the entire Lannister family was so good. EVERY actor and actress portrayed their characters flawlessly. Even the silence between dialogue has so much depth.
Tyrion by far had the best face….sitting back just sippin his tea face lmao he was so eager to see that exchange once Joffery crossed the line. He cuts his eyes immediately to his dad to see his reaction. Man what great writing lmao
I love how after Tyrion says the "kings are dying like flies"-line Joffrey *looks to Tywin* before reacting. And Tywin's like 'let's see - how do you deal with this?"
Man tywin is awesome here. The king starts to go off on a rant and then when he insults him everyone looks almost expecting him to kill Joffery right then and there lol it was very clear who held the true power.
It reminds me of when Roose and Petyr were discussing the Lannister in season 5 after wedding Sansa. They bring up Tywin’s death then Jaime’s hand, and only then bring up King Tommen. It’s clear Tywin was more important than the king
Yet another classic scene showing why Tywin was the greatest character in the show. He was the *only* player in the game of thrones that cared about the king’s sleep schedule, as he knew a well rested king would make wiser choices. What a nice grandpa!
I always saw it a bit differently, personally. The remark "A joke! Joffrey did not mean it" came off as damage control. I feel like she knew what Joffrey meant, but wanted to tell him that he shouldn't be saying such things in front of his council. Any remotely capable person would have taken the hint and rolled with it, but Joffrey being the idiot he is, doubled down instead. If anything, I figured Cersei was more so questioning the lack of intelligence her son possessed xD
I love when Joffrey snaps at Tywin the camera pans around to all the characters reaction, and Varys has to be the best. Just this look of "Are you that stupid??"
Know how this scene is made of Tywin... But when Tyrion delivers his, "Speak softly then, monsters are dangerous beasts and now kings are dying like flies." That was a hard rap on Joffrey.
I especially like tyrions expression after Joffreys outburst. You can tell he is humorously intrigued to see what tywins reply would be, everyone else is like "oh no he didnt*sassy finger wag*"
Tyrion is a wonderful character, I just hope he doesn't die. It's sad what happened to Rob, I was speechless. But that is why I love this series so much you never know how things are going to end.
the amount of respect and fear joffrey have for robert is amazing. he trully believe thats his real father and the way he killed targarien prince and took the crown is like a wet dream for him. He thinks hes like his "father", but we all can see they have nothing in common.
2:24 Tywin: Why you little shit! Joffrey: Oh crap! Cersei: I cannot protect you Joffrey! Tyrion: Now THIS is going to be interesting. Pycelle: Oh dear! Varys: I ain't saving your ass! Joffrey: I am the King, I can say whatever I want!
It got so quite after Joffrey said "while you hid under Castly Rock" that if you listen carefully you can hear footsteps quietly in the background. Bravo detail.
"You just sent the most powerful man in Westeros to bed without his supper. " Tyrion sums the scene up fairly well in this next line after this cuts off.
Otto Hightower: Idiot! My grandson is a fool! He’s worse than a fool! Tywin Lannister: The king is tired. See him to his chambers. Two very different approaches to speaking to your grandson, the king.
Cersei and Tyrion think the same sentence, but with different emotions- Cersei's is more of disgust, disappointment and anger. Tyrion's is more of amusement
This scene is very well adapted from the book, the put emphasis on something that happened a lot throughout the book series. At councils of any kind Tywin always listened before he spoke and still was feared and respected
One of the amazing things about this clip is that Tywin only speaks three times, and yet he dominates the scene. That's presence.

@@grahamturner2640 he was too powerful as a character. you can't have a character in a show named Game of Thrones who is more powerful than the person who sits on the throne
@@mathze tywins death is meant to be a turning point in the story. In the books the war of the five kings had been going on for a while and tywin was firmly leading. However his hypocritical and cruel treatment of his son had caught up to him and after his death house lannister falls apart with tyrion becoming a cruel imp,Cersei getting a psychological breakdown and Jamie wanting nothing to do with his family. Unfortunately the show only touches on of these storylines
glad he's dead fuck Tywin
The silence in the chambers and then the ominous strings that start playing along with the way Tywin looks at him are just brilliant. Even a part of Joffrey realises “I just fucked up”!
@@Wolf10media idk. Tywin is many things but I'm not sure he is a kinslayer.
He is all those things but I don’t know where u see it in this scene
@@olofacosta3192 He did admit to Tyrion that he'd cast him into the ocean if he hadn't bared the Lannister name. And note I said if they were useless to him. Family is all that is keeping the useless/incompetent alive.
@@Wolf10media IIRC there's a theory floating around the ASOIAF (book that GOT is based on) community that Tywin knew Tyrion was innocent, but he used the situation to kill two birds with one stone.
At 02:32 Varys' expression is like "Boy you have no Idea how fucking mich you messed up right now." The other's faces are pure perfection as well.
Varys: In a minute, Tywin's going to give you an out. Take it.
The actors for Joffrey and Tywin are amazing. I almost wish we got more of them together but at the same time the little we have is made all the more special
Tywin was the most powerful person at that table. The look of shock and fear on everyone's face at 2:25 and the music. 🙌🏻
It seems that Joffrey doesn't know the one rule of Westeros, "Do not fuck with Tywin Lannister"
except Tyrion did fuck with him, and Now he's dead
The casting for the entire Lannister family was so good. EVERY actor and actress portrayed their characters flawlessly. Even the silence between dialogue has so much depth.
tywin just reminded everyone in the room who's the real king.
This scene is a masterpiece. The actors, the dialog, the music. 10+
Tywin's internal monologue at 1:36: Not bad. Not bad.
Joffrey: You're going to let the dwarf speak to me like that?
Tywin: Yep. Let's see how you handle it.
Joffrey: I AM THE KING!
Joffreys one redeeming moment. He has the balls (or stupidity?) to Yell at Tywin Lannister.
I'd say it's the other way around-Tywin deserves some respect for sending the King to bed like a little kid.
Tom H Tywin has no reason to fear Joffrey where as Joffrey has all the reasons in the World ot fear Tywin.
Tywin is the real Power behind the throne.
That's what I meant-he's one of the few people who can treat Joffrey like the spoiled kid he is and get away with it.
Tom H Exactly - which is why creds to Joff to >trying< to stand up against him for what TYWIN is... which is a scheming opprotunist.
Technically he's psychology impaired
Man tywin is awesome here. The king starts to go off on a rant and then when he insults him everyone looks almost expecting him to kill Joffery right then and there lol it was very clear who held the true power.
It reminds me of when Roose and Petyr were discussing the Lannister in season 5 after wedding Sansa. They bring up Tywin’s death then Jaime’s hand, and only then bring up King Tommen. It’s clear Tywin was more important than the king
I love how Cersei immediately takes Joffrey out when she realizes Her father is about to end his whole career 😂
Yet another classic scene showing why Tywin was the greatest character in the show. He was the *only* player in the game of thrones that cared about the king’s sleep schedule, as he knew a well rested king would make wiser choices. What a nice grandpa!
1:12 Love those moments when Cersei sees Joffrey for the monster he really is.
@@dysonsphere2394 your interpretation is the correct one.
Oh no
reading the book she knows what he is , she even told Sansa what her son is.
Yes, she's like "wtf did I give birth to?"
@@pandapirate25yearsago33 Dang, maybe banging my brother hasn't been the best idea...
Tyrion was always a badass but you can’t deny Tywin absolutely roasted his grandson with “When I’ve won your war for you”
Joffrey was basically king in name only. Everyone in the court knew he was a little shit, but they put up with him because the rules of succession.
'Any man who must say, "I am the King", is no true king.' - Tywin Lannister
I love when Joffrey snaps at Tywin the camera pans around to all the characters reaction, and Varys has to be the best. Just this look of "Are you that stupid??"
Know how this scene is made of Tywin... But when Tyrion delivers his, "Speak softly then, monsters are dangerous beasts and now kings are dying like flies." That was a hard rap on Joffrey.
Not harder than when he slapped him 3 times tho
1:32 I love that Varys is trying to hold in his laugh when Tyrion effortlessly comes back at Joffrey
I especially like tyrions expression after Joffreys outburst. You can tell he is humorously intrigued to see what tywins reply would be, everyone else is like "oh no he didnt*sassy finger wag*"
Acting, writing, down to the camera work was perfect... man these people have so much skill. Well done.
Any man who must say he is not tired is in fact tired.
The Maester deftly plucking up that note at the end, just to show that yes, he intentionally dropped it in the first place, was a nice touch
just so refreshing watching this scene after sitting through season 8 and 7's mediocre writing
This scene was taken directly from the book, almost word-for-word. That's why it's so good.
as the other guy said, the show is at its peak when it's adapting the books
1:38 I love how you can audibly _hear_ all of their heads turn with that “WTF DID HE JUST SAY” look on their faces. 😂
Tyrion is a wonderful character, I just hope he doesn't die. It's sad what happened to Rob, I was speechless. But that is why I love this series so much you never know how things are going to end.
Darkz0m bruh
"Saddest Let-Downs in Anime History"
Bruh
They end badly, quite evidently.
In GoT, you either die a hero or live to see your character turned into a dumb parody of themselves by inept script writers…
I love how everyone got serious when Joffery snapped at Tywin, they were ready to see that boy get dragged in that moment.
The tension in that room after Joffrey made that I'll advised statement is legendary.
When Ceresi, Tywin , and Tyrion all agree you really messed up
the amount of respect and fear joffrey have for robert is amazing. he trully believe thats his real father and the way he killed targarien prince and took the crown is like a wet dream for him. He thinks hes like his "father", but we all can see they have nothing in common.
Like either of them, frankly; guess Joffrey was really a mama's boy.
That's maybe the one positive aspect of Joffrey; his respect for Robert.
I love how in this scene everyone is like, "This punk yelled at Tywin?"
everyone else in that room is terrified except tywin and tyrion
"Becoming the King doesn’t mean people will acknowledge you. But when the people acknowledge you, you can become King."
When most people are intimidating with a look, they are looking down on someone. Whenever Tywin does it, he's looks up. Amazing.
Lord Varys subtle face expressions are the best things about the small council scenes
There's so many funny moments like Lord Varys reaction to monster and "I am the King!!" and Cersei's gulp after Joffrey outburst against Tywin 🤣🤣🤣
Varys’ face at 1:32 is priceless.
2:24
Tywin: Why you little shit!
Tywin: -Get this impudent little shit out of my sight immediately.- _"The king is tired."_
-I am not tiried!!!
Tywin:
-You better f*cking be...
“Old fingers”
Code for:
“I don’t approve of this and this is how I’m telling you.”
I met Jofrey and he was the coolest humble kid . I couldn’t believe it nice dude
It got so quite after Joffrey said "while you hid under Castly Rock" that if you listen carefully you can hear footsteps quietly in the background. Bravo detail.
Charles Dance’s vocal resonance is like James Earl Jones’. Every word is understood and impactful.
Tyrion is just amazing , he chooses right words at right time.
"any man who must i am the king is no true king"
*scares the king without saying a word 5 seconds later*
Joffrey: " everyone is mine to torment!"
Tywin: * Tyrion is not yours to torment. you are all mine to torment and i can torment Tyrion alone*
Also Tywin: Go to bed or Tyrion will slap you there.
And now I'll torment Tyrion
"You just sent the most powerful man in Westeros to bed without his supper. "
Tyrion sums the scene up fairly well in this next line after this cuts off.
Tywin: I ate supper though.
“Any man who say I am the king is no true king” is one of the truest lines ever spoken.
Love how tywin encourages conflict to consolidate power
I love how Tywin stays silent long enough for Joffrey to realize he fucked up lol.
So many great moments in this scene, perfect acting all around
2:16 Cersei looking at Jeoffrey like: "Oh no you didn't"
Otto Hightower: Idiot! My grandson is a fool! He’s worse than a fool!
Tywin Lannister: The king is tired. See him to his chambers.
Two very different approaches to speaking to your grandson, the king.
And yet both have the same sentiment, "I'm surrounded by morons"
When the illusion of power meets the actual power. When Joffrey said 'I am not tired' I heard the continuation: I am just stupid
"Any man who insists he is not tired, is indeed tired" 😎
Honestly Joffrey’s finest moment. He had a great point.
LMAO 2:27 Cersei and Tyrion are like “oh you’re screwed”
😂 Joffrey realised too when everyone went silent
Cersei and Tyrion think the same sentence, but with different emotions- Cersei's is more of disgust, disappointment and anger. Tyrion's is more of amusement
“Oh, I’m a monster? Perhaps you should speak to me more softly then, monsters are dangerous. And just now kings are dying like flies.” 1:18 - 1:41
This scene is very well adapted from the book, the put emphasis on something that happened a lot throughout the book series. At councils of any kind Tywin always listened before he spoke and still was feared and respected
"You're not a clown. You're entire circus" Literally everyone in the room after Jofrey scream at Tywin
