I wanted to share with you my tips about how to buy a house in the uk. I was so scared about buying a house at 20 year old but once i understood the house buying process it became a lot easier! I really hope that anyone that is saving to buy a house in the uk will find this video really useful! myself and my partner are first time buyers and there are a couple of things i wonder if you would be able to explain:
how long does a mortgage in principle last?
do you need to get life insurance to cover the cost of the mortgage before you start looking if you know roughly how much your mortgage will be? or do you sort it out once you have found somewhere?
sooo many questions
Also what are you main essentials items to have before you move in , like a kettle for example :)
Can you do a house tour ?
Slight correction: Survey is carried out by the lender, not solicitors before the mortgage offer is made.

How much does a solicitor normally cost?
Our solicitor is £1,200 but I’ve heard it range from £1,000-£2,000 depending on area

Couple of points:
2.5% interest isn't very good at the moment, it's average to poor. I can get 1.7%.
First offer should be cheeky, as you say. But only 5% below the asking price isn't cheeky! That's why they accepted it! Should have gone 10% below the asking price.
NEVER, EVER use the solicitor or mortgage advisor from the estate agent! They dont give a sh*t about you! You're paying them but they're working for the estate agents benefit!
She did say she didn’t have a credit rating as she hadn’t borrowed before, probably why she got that rate. I think this was a great video, much more insightful then a lot of the others on UA-cam for the UK market so thank you 😊
@@jodiecolbeck7568 I agree and disagree. I find it refreshing that she was so open, but to give advice which includes be cheeky with a 5% discount offer will cost thousands, and to say use the estate agent's solicitor could cost you tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds! It really is that bad!
clarkeysam that’s fair enough, it sounds like you’re probably more experienced than her when buying a home so you know that you should make a lower offer than she did, I suppose she’s just sharing her experience, i think it’s still a very detailed video of the process on a whole compared to others on UA-cam, but I didn’t know about not using the estate agents solicitor, so that’s good to know 😊
@@jodiecolbeck7568 far from it. I've never owned a property. I nearly bought one in 2015 but the industry I worked in hit a major depression. I then moved cities and studied for my MSc, and then moved city again and joined a new industry. I'm now ready to buy but with the virus I'm holding off for now. I just know a decent amount as I've researched it because I know it can go really wrong and I'm not willing for that time happen to me.
