This is so helpful and has reminded me I need to start my maternity leave budget to work out what I will get paid each month of mat leave! I go off in April so need to get ahead of the game! I’m also a civil servant so super lucky we get so much paid time off 🥳 just so you are aware you will only get SMP for 13 weeks when your full pay ends. The last bit will be unpaid (although I’ll be using AL to extend my time off without having too much unpaid!) - just so you don’t get caught out 😊 x

Useful video. I can only recommend to ger familiar with your maternity, paternity and shared parental leave entitlements even before getting pregnant - my husband and I did this and it allows us both to be on parental leave for 6 months each. He will be on statutory pay / no pay at the end of it, but by looking into this in advance we were able to work out how much we need to save to still cover all expenses. Pro tip: if you get paternity leave pay from your employer, that doesn't count towards the shared parental leave, so it's a bonus :)
