- I often get asked if the Kawasaki Z125 is a good bike for beginners and specifically if the bike that can be ridden on the highway. In this video I answer that question by hopping on the highway and showing you.

@0:03 I'm watching because im thinking of buying one lol
I took mine on the freeway one early Sunday morning when traffic was light. It was not fun. Just a little wind and misty rain made me feel like I was gonna die. Its a blast in urban areas and on side roads though!
I drive like an old man at or below the speed limit all the time. I really want one of these over the Grom as the Z125's tend to go for cheaper out where I'm at.
I bought one a month or so ago and even in cold temps I’ve been out riding it. The thing is a blast and handles like a dream. Most of my writing is curvy roads in the north Georgia mountains. It’s a good 50 mile an hour Bike but that’s about it
Z125 always cheaper new. Get heated hand grips & it's a dream even in shitty rainy weather 👍
@@arcris1bro get oxford heated grips. Trust me you won't regret it. When my hands were toasty I never felt cold regardless of how bad conditions were (winter & 2-4am riding with wet fog)
Every time I pass a cop on my bike they laugh at me 😂
That's good! Better to be laughed at rather than stopped....
Lol yeah cause they ride real bikes
Z125?
Me too
@tyleradams58 i bet you're a happy person
in california anything less than 150cc is not allowed on freeway
great video mate😂I was with the grom on the autobahn 🛣 (Bad idea) it was a strange experience with some big fast trucks behind the tail light 😂 after all the grom and the z125 are really funny machines
Enjoy the bike life
As long as there’s no head wind I can comfortably maintain 90 kph (55 mph) on the highway. However, most of my riding is done on rural gravel roads where I rarely exceed 70 kmh (about 45 mph). I would not recommend the Z125 Pro to anyone who needs to do a lot of highway riding.
I’ve had mine topped out at 68 on the highway. Hills is what kills it or high winds.
Stock gearing. I wonder if the overdrive front sprocket upgrade helps or cones out exactly the same, and the same but with exhaust intake piggyback.
In Michigan the speed limit is 70 but the minimum is 55 so you’re in no danger of a ticket unless you’re lower than you’re states motorcycle cc limit
This is good to know. I have a Toyota Corolla SE, and it can get me into a lot of trouble with a state trooper if I'm not careful!
Yeah, but you can't really go faster than 55 on that, so if you need to get out of the way for whatever emergency, you cant. I wouldn't use that on the highway.
75-80 MPH if it’s 65 MPH
I've got a Grom here in Southeast Michigan and take it on I-75 for a short hop once in a great while. Not a big deal, but it's actually the SLOW IDIOTS around the exits that make it dicey. I take I-94 late at night sometimes too and prefer that to driving 2 lane 55mph roads at night. I top out at 63- stock still. State police in the median don't care. 125cc is the minimum for highway use here.
These bikes are so much fun tho lol
If you look it up it says 100mph for z125 pro. Glad I saw this video. Thanks
Mpg 😄
i felt kist like you. 2 ton vehicles flying by 400lbs at best. not best choice but last minute trips are possible in the slow lane
Not a chance in Texas lol. My freeway speed limit is 75mph. When I get towards more populated areas I can dip on and off the freeway and frontage roads to avoid streetlights
This is the best sh1t I’ve ever watched 😂😂😂😂
Legally speaking, with a 65mph speed limit that means max speed. You wont get pulled over for doing below the speed limit. Once you get as slow as 45 then you are supposed to run flashers, still not illegal
In KC MO going under the speed limit is considered impeding traffic.... and yeah, they will pull ya over if your doing 10 under.
@@matthewharvey8755 there are exceptions to impeding traffic, 1st you must be blocking the normal flow of traffic, 2nd its acceptable if its necessary for safe operation, due to grade or compliance of law. Him on his bike doing 62 in a 65 will NOT get him pulled over.
If someone wants to do 55 in a 65 in the left lane...THAT is a good way to get pulled over for impeding traffic
@@MrSirjud01 I agree that he was in no danger of getting pulled over, however I have been pulled over for doing 70 in the right lane on a 65mph zone in kcmo because I didn't want to run 85/90 like everyone else(my 1996 plymouth breeze could barely go 70). The cop gave me a written warning for impeding traffic and asked me to take an alternate route.
@@matthewharvey8755 that is messed up. Also sounds like the exception not the rule
I don't go on the highway, 80 kmh Max, tint wheels, my bad back can't handle that.
In the car cruise control via satnav in Australia 110 kmh.
I welded up a rack for mine for a Ventura box 32L or Ventura rack with twin bags that zip together.
Very strong braced by 2 rods going to the bar behind the foot pegs.
Over $2.00 per Litre of fuel in Australia

I can't buy an air filter, do you have a part number,
Thank you
What speed limit
Lol. You sounded like you were about to die. Thanks for your sacrifice for making this clip 😂
Great video, thanks ... ha .
There's a speed limit?
If you feel suicidal get on the freeway.they are barely fast enough for the main streets.
Your allowed to drive below the speed limit you know.... it's called the speed LIMIT... not the speed minimum.
Yeah only two things he should of worried about getting above 45 mph and displacement as 150cc is the minimum on interstate Highways.
Obviously 125 cc does not meet that but he can go 45 mph so no officer is going to bother with it unless he goes below 45 mph and causes a back up.
Many highways do not allow anything under 250cc on them because you are a traffic hazard so check laws first before becoming a speed bump. This was never intended for highway use ever. Common sense, use it
American highways might be an issue but here in Australia thats quite acceptable even at 50mph
I'm about to buy this bike and all of the youtube videos covering this bike are Americans so I didn't know if it was the same for Aus 😂
My feelings on the matter is mixed. I don't have a problem getting on the highway if I can stay withing 5 to 10mph of the speed limit and if it's done wisely and there isn't a reasonable alternative. The speed "Limit" is supposed to be the top speed you can go legally. If cops aren't going to pull people over for doing 5 to 10mph over, then they shouldn't both with someone doing five under in the slow lane of a multi line highway. I would proudly take the ticket to court for no reason other then to make this point to the Judge with the officer standing in front of him. Most cops wouldn't now if my Kymco Spade is a 150 or 250 unless they pulled me over for some other reason anyways. Groms and Z125 are a little more known by the police community though and I can't imagine why, LOL.
In the Portland (Oregon) metro area I usually take main roads, even in my car, because the freeways get so backed up and my brain doesn't do well with stopped traffic on a road with no stop signs or signals. If there's 20 miles of highway between a town I need to be and the one I'm in and the only alternative is an 85 mile loop around a mountain I won't feel bad about taking the 20 miles of highway. I'd take the loop if it was for enjoyment though. This is in references to places like the Columbia River Gorge or mountain range to the beach. If it's one lane each way, I pull over when more then 2 or 3 cars get behind me our I get a safe chance sooner. People get frustrated when they can't do 10 to 15mph OVER the speed limit, but I've found are more tolerate when they see you're on a smaller motorcycle in a rural area and not just someone driving in a car that can go faster. Maybe that's because they think you're insane and don't want to mess with you (guilty).
As for safety, it's all relative to the individual. I mean we all ride motorcycles, which are not exactly known for their safety. Most people that would hate on me for my point of view here probably have done close to, if not above triple digits on public roads (I can't say I haven't in my younger years) and that isn't exactly legal or safe.
I used to drive a chip truck through portland twice a day. Not fun.
@@Billy28376lol where I am you get pulled over & fined 3kmh over (2 in your numbers so it depends on whether you live in a police state or not lol)
I have fun with it and it depends upon what neighborhood I'm riding in to be honest freeway 5 or 10 over the speed limit sometimes certain roads 5 or 10 even 15 because that's the speed of traffic on that well known place where I'm from so it all kind of depends I don't believe it you're discretion I would want it to go 70 65 but if it that's small that will be my dream
I’m 14 and am stuck between the grom or Z125 any suggestions? I live in texas so the speeds are a lot higher😬
And the drivers are 10X as likely to murder you out of sheer negligence. The good Christian folk of Texas make sure the love of Jesus has no place on their freeways.
bro you should wait till 18 and get a license...
@@tracyh4553Tracy are you Viet? Also you still need a license to ride one of these in the street.
@@Localjadedealer I got that a lot hahaha, but I’m actually Taiwanese
@@tracyh4553 Oh shit that’s wassup. A lot of my homies are Taiwanese, in the 626 area of LA we have a lot of Taiwanese peeps.
It's better to take this bike on local roads and ride it more like you would a motor scooter. It is still capable of going over 55 on a two-lane.
A cop isn’t going to pull you over unless you’re going less than 45. Its called the speed limit, not what they want you to go lol
This made me laugh
It's not highway/interstate legal in NY. It's not the vehicle's top speed that dictates this, it's the vehicle's engine size. 200 cc is the minimum.
Fatter tires make a huge difference in stability but you end up losing 5mph but still worth it
LoL I take the Grom on 50 all the time going to DC. It does well. For whatever reason I pass carslol. Now the beltway is something else.
That's the benefit of changing your sprockets. Though it only really helps you go slightly above the speed limit lol
@@R2Rmoto Yeah they're both really slow little bikes best used for stunting and the such ;)
At least in MO 40mph is technically the lowest speed you can go on the highway
I actually just bought a z125 pro and had to ride it home with a good chunk of highway inolved lmao
How was it?
@@Erik-jr9me requires balls of steel. Also its illegal in my state to ride anything under 150cc on major highways
@@coreykimbler5188I know I'm late to the party but I couldn't agree with that 150cc law more. Reality is anything under that is dangerous being allowed on any 62-70+ freeway (100-110kmh+). That's why I sold my 22 grom month later (110kmh zones where I live)
THE FIRST 5 SECONDS MADE ME LAUGH
Too funny. I'll never do this again 😅
Makes me sad, I was thinking I hit the jack pot with this little guy.... Guess I'll look at a 250cc
Smart decision.
I love my Z125, but the first set of keys I grab if I have to travel more than 5 miles is for my 900
I took the Grom on B/W Pkwy with Knobbies on about a month ago. It was terrifying lol
How did you like the feel of knobbies on the grom? And how did it affect your wheelies? I've been giving thought to getting some for the Z but idk what I'd gain from it around this area.
I had them on my old Grom for off-road which they work great. For wheelies, it’s like hit or miss if they hook the ground when you clutch up. Didn’t try lowering the PSI for them though
For a stock grom mine hits 70 fully tucked
How does it do on 50mph roads for 10-15 minutes?
I have a 2017 Z. I’m 5’9 160lbs. If I tuck, I can easily hit 65 on the Speedo.
It’s a small bike. It doesn’t feel small until you are around the oversized 4x4’s being driven by plant workers and teenagers.
My answer to your question would be no, get a bigger bike.
@@marvinschumacher2885 Thanks for reply, I was asking because even the back roads here SE of Denver metro are basically 55mph and you can’t avoid them. It sounds like thats a fun city bike. I ended up buying a small dual sport… Yamaha xt250
"Rush hour traffic" El Oh El...that's rush hour?
Honda and kawasaki needs to make 250cc of this bike and they can take over US market
Nice video, so now I know why it’s cheap and it claims to go 100 mph which is not
They are fun, and can’t go 100. Maybe mod’d out they can, but it would still have 12 inch tires. I wouldn’t do it.
The police won't pull you over for going a few miles under the speed limit.
5 over always. Even with cops behind me
No shot theyd pull you over for impeding traffic doing 5 under. Youre good
I think you went into this all wrong? Instead of tucking in trying to gain speed, i think sacrificing a few mph , sit up gain control . Knowing what is coming up behind you is more important ! If a vehicle is coming up very fast on you in the tuck position you are very vulnerable and even less visible, so even if you have a extra 5mph you have no idea what is going on . At least if you cover the mirrors you know what is going on , and you will see cars moving out of your lane in time ,so no need to panic. Or if the worst comes to the worst you can veer to the side . In a tuck and no idea what is coming up on you or how fast , you are trusting to luck . No wonder this was not a pleasant experience.
@idrissmorocco23 not sure 16 years experience has much relevance? I got my first bike in 1978 , so does my experience trump yours ?
Tuck might gain a few mph , but being fully aware in a normal sitting position with mirror checks in a split second ready to take avoidable action is priority number one! That's my 43 years experience!
I think it’s best to learn on a smaller bike to get adjusted to a bigger bike 🌝 I hear these bikes only need 4 dollars to fill up the tank 🤷🏻♀️
The last time I got gas I think I paid less than $2 and filled the tank.
I use premium in mine and yup 4$ to full
The lowest priced 87 in Phoenix is 2.99 a gallon, how can a fill up from empty be 4 dollars? With it on reserve flashing with 87, it's 6 and change

Where do you live that you'd get pulled over for going 5 under the limit?????
😂😂 I got a Benelli 135tnt , I must say you a very brave. Are you in NC
23,000km I got on my 21 135 (sold recently still running for over half over new costs). I also had the 22 grom and I sold that 1500km later due to the Benelli being safer here (110knh zones where I live and have to use).
Also don't trust dealership for service. Mine got caught out & admitted to not checking valves and said they normally are ok so we don't check (I only took it expecting the valve check as it's part of the first service & I get longer warranty. Benelli warranty is as good as getting wet used toilet paper lol). I'd say that's a major problem with Benelli vs Honda/Kawasaki & other sellers including Chinese (my Honda dealership goes out of their way to help me where Benelli essentially said 🖕at every point) Benelli bike done it's job & was fun but would never purchase same brand again regardless of massive discounts vs others more expensive (I'll call it a life lesson 😂). Google is often wrong. You won’t even do 100mph on a CB300R, let alone a z125 or Grom.
Why are you clicking on this video 😂😂😂
Speed limit is max speed, not the speed minimum.
You're pretty brave. I took a Yamaha TW200 on the highway once, which will hit 70 without too much trouble, and I felt pretty uncomfortable.
If it can do that I might be better off with the TW vs another Grom or Benelli (I'd prefer the crf300l but paying $1000 more than last time pissed me off & refused to be ripped off)
I would buy one of these if it had a 300 cc
I put a 250cc in mine I had to make a custom frame and everything 😂
It's a fun mini pit bike it has its place I love mine

If you’re going under the “minimum speed limit” which is 40 on the interstate then yes lol
Highways in Ct don’t allow this bike it’s too small and slow and you’ll probably get killed anyway on 84 or 95
