They should really make a fuel injected version of this engine! I'm afraid if you lived in colder parts of the country it wouldn't start in the winter.

my first time riding one it was me friends i didn’t even mean to pop it up but i got it to come up to 12 o’clock wheely then into a 12 -10 o’clock stoppie all i did was came up around 5-7rpms then dump the clutch

I have a 2022 drz400sm, i switched to 16 / 39 and man did that make a difference! I stay pinned damn near the whole time on the freeway doing anywhere from 90-98 and its still less vibration and noise than stock spocket at like 75mph

Yeah, I'd keep it around 65 if I were going to ride for more than a few miles even though it will do 75. Kinda hard on knobby tires anyway. The DR650 would be the bike for 50/50 trail/road adventures but the DRZ will definitely do it at 65, give or take a few mph with short bursts over 70. Great all around bike.

I just rode a total of 550 kilometers (342 miles) highway riding with my DR400sm on a single day yesterday. Its stock bike with just Hotcams stage 2 camshaft and JD jetting upgrades. Average speed I dared to go was 90-100 kmh (56-62 mph) due to frequent high winds. Many sport bikes and cars casually flying past me by. Can it handle highway? Yes it can. But this bike is never meant to go long or frequent touring due it is not resistant to winds, the supermoto's narrow seat design (my ass and upper back thighs sore like mad even with Seat Concept installed) or going at speed 120 kmh constant or above (75 mph)

Fatter tires make a huge difference in stability but you end up losing 5mph but still worth it

Good reasoning for dealer service. Nice guys at San Antonio Motorworks and I'll hover and get as much info as I can about how to do the oil change etc... for next time. I like to try doing my own maintenance as I've got 4 bikes and dealers are too pricey for basic crappola. Thanks again and ride safe

Had my 2006 with 15/44 stock gearing and Dunlop 606's to 97 inidcated many years ago. It has had the air box opened up, rejetted, and the exhaust baffle "modified" a bit,but that's it. It is my understanding the stock speedo is off by 8-10%. Rudimentary testing indicates 8% on mine. I'm running Dunlop 605's now, and I just changed to a 41 rear sprocket which I am going to stay with as that is good for 75 on I-5 ...until I pass a truck, and then it's hold on and hope for the best. Now if I can find a loooong flat two mile run with no wind, I'm going for 115??

At least in MO 40mph is technically the lowest speed you can go on the highway

I don't go on the highway, 80 kmh Max, tint wheels, my bad back can't handle that. In the car cruise control via satnav in Australia 110 kmh. I welded up a rack for mine for a Ventura box 32L or Ventura rack with twin bags that zip together. Very strong braced by 2 rods going to the bar behind the foot pegs. Over $2.00 per Litre of fuel in Australia Ecconomy 7.5L tank 184.8 km 5.21L of fuel used I can't buy an air filter, do you have a part number, Thank you

I just picked up an old S model as a project with the typical Yoshi, airbox and jetting done and dont understand how this thing is quicker/faster than my stock CRF450L. Well it was at 15/47 gearing. After putting the 44 back on, now it feels like a DRZ. But, its an easy swap to 14 to 15t at the front now for road trip or trail riding, both work just the lower gearing pulls so much harder. Im going to sell the expensive 450L, the DRZ does everything I need.

If you want a faster bike 🏍 buy a bigger bike. It's a good city bike. It's not a freeway bike. Hard enough to see a full size Harley on Freeway, much less a half size mini bike in the blind spot. 😀 It needs a 150cc engine kit. Electric motor bikes easily do 70mph.

For a stock grom mine hits 70 fully tucked

Great video! I love my 400sm, but riding it in the wind is miserable. I've never been beaten up so bad on a bike. It's like flying a kite. Super bummed too, because I was all ready to sell my Vmax and have just one bike for everything, but the Dr.Z is just too light for highway use. Will a windscreen help, or just make it a bigger sail?

Funny I felt more on top of the z125 and into the Grom. But really love the styling of the Z125 but bought the Grom just felt it was a more comfortable riding position

Just drove a 2001 drz400 from San Diego to Arlington WA, with stock gearing and aggressive tires was able to stay around 60+-5 the whole time. You definitely fight the high wind areas though

Same here. These engines have a grindy tick I’m guessing I was worried because I’ve got on her really hard a few times on some hours long highway trips

Highways in Ct don’t allow this bike it’s too small and slow and you’ll probably get killed anyway on 84 or 95

It's better to take this bike on local roads and ride it more like you would a motor scooter. It is still capable of going over 55 on a two-lane.
