For those that need the short answer. It seems to be generally recommended to use Benzoyl Peroxide in the morning and Differin Adapalene gel at night. But Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel can be used together. Differin Adapalene gel is a form of topical vitamin A that actually remains stable in the presence of Benzoyl Peroxide. It is literally what prescription medication Epiduo(a combination of Benzoyl Peroxide and Adapalene) is. You can find a few studies on the subject in the National Library of Medicine. However, combining both products together could cause skin irritation and dryness for individuals that have more sensitive skin. Also some additional studies show that the lower percent Benzoyl Peroxide products work with pretty much the same efficiency as the products with higher percent for acne. So if you want to use Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel together at night it may be beneficial to go for a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser with lower percent because it can be less irritating and just as effective for treating acne as higher percents. But as always you need to try these things out for yourself, monitor progress over the course of 4 to 6 weeks, and adjust as needed to see what works best for you and your skin. If you require a more personal assessment then it would probably be best to see a Dermatologist.

Dr. Dray, about two months ago I switched from using a 5% BP gel to a 10% gel and I found that my acne has improved a lot. Probably 50% reduction. Really great video! I am really happy to hear about the neutrogena 2.5% BP gel. Nice to have a low dose option--I would never leave on a high percentage BP all over my face, but definitely would for the low dose. And yes the bleaching stinks, but it 100% beats having severe cystic acne and the scarring that comes with it. Adapalene + benzoyl peroxide completely prevents my cystic acne. I still get some acne but it's very minimal and not a big deal. Nice to hear this is safe long-term!

Omg!!!! This is the information that I have been asking myself for months! I used to have epiduo and used it as a spot treatment. I got Differin and Benzoyl Peroxide separately this time and i have been doing as you’ve said. Thanks for the confirmation. I have 0.5 Retinol as well. Am I still able to integrate this at some point in my routine? Weekly?
Differin has helped my skin so much but I still get a few cysts or tiny pimples here and there, I’m totally gonna re-introduce benzoyl peroxide into my night routine!
Good to know my youngest is having the hardest time. He is 15 and is currently using SLMD for a few weeks now with no change. Before that we tried curology and it didn't work either. We will try this asap.
I hope Dr Dray's recommendations today help your son's skin. It's very difficult having problem skin when you are a teenager. You are a great mom to be helping him. Check out Dr Dray's videos about the connection of dairy food and acne. In my experience dairy food contributed to my teen & adult acne. My suspicions were confirmed after hearing Dr Dray's thoughts. For example I use almond or soy milk on breakfast cereal and only eat hard cheeses, so I have parmesan cheese rather than mozzarella on pizza. I very rarely get a pimple now. I also use azelaic acid (to clear out pores and reduce redness) Dr Dray has videos on that too. Good luck! 👱♀️❤
Whoa, literally just got a prescription for this two days ago! What excellent timing! Now I’m a little disappointed that I was prescribed the duo of adapalene-benzoyl peroxide... I have extremely oily skin so I hope it won’t be too drying long term but I wish I would’ve asked for just differin
If you have already filled your prescription for Epiduo, perhaps just apply it to the t-zone of your face (and body if you have acne there); and then (if you can buy it over the counter in your country), use the adapalene (only) for the rest of your face & neck (where you really don't want your skin to be dried out).
Start really slow if you don’t want dry skin. I started with applying it every third day for a couple weeks then I did every other day. My skin is more on the dry side naturally so it’s hard for me to do it every day but I still do some times, just not for longer then 3 days since I have eczema and my face will get mad if i do that for too long. It’s still effective when applied every third or every other day, it’ll just take a little longer to see result but you’ll have less of the bad side effects like peeling and dry skin
I would like your opinion about this: If I can tolerate it, can I use Tranexamic Acid or Kojic Acid in the same routine with Epiduo 0.1% or should I avoid it? Thanks ❤️
This was SO helpful! I actually tried using Differin gel a a couple years ago and totally used it wrong and major irritation occurred so I stopped the product. I just recently went to see an actual dermatologist and was prescribed Duac, Adapalene, and doxycyline. I've been using these products along with Cerave with my AM and PM moisturizer for almost 90 days and have seen improvement! I cant wait to go back and mention this product and see what my dermatologist suggests! She might prescribe me something else but maybe now I can use it the right way LOL. Loved the video and info!
In every video talking about Differin and BP, you mention using them together at the same time (the Epiduo Dup). But can you use Differin in the morning and BP at night, instead? Thanks for all the great content!
I've been using differin gel for more than 3 years. But I still get acne and every time I use benzoyl peroxide partially. However, this also did not have much effect, and repeated use of benzoyl peroxide in certain areas caused irritation. So I thought of benzoyl peroxide cleanser and found this video. Thank you so much for explaining exactly what I thought.
Hello Dr. Dray! Thank you so much for this video! I've been on Epiduo forte for 2 years now and I've had some break outs due to maskne and trying out high percentage niacinamide ooof! I'm interested in using azaleic acid for hyperpigmentation from those breakouts. Would you recommend using azaleic acid along with Epiduo forte? Like can I use them one after the other? Or better if applied separately in AM/PM?
I have acne prone skin and when I used to have acne breakouts I stop using mu retinol n apply benzyl peroxide at night , but now thanks to dr dray I know I don't need to do that n i can use both of them together , thanks Dr dary ,😊
Just bought adapalene gel and was wondering is it possible to incorporate it into my skincare routine while being heavily relying on benzoyl peroxide to keep my acnes in control. Thank you so much Dr.Dray for providing such informational videos! ❤️
I never got into Adapalene. I tried it for a month or so then decided, “this doesn’t work!” And gave up on it. I now realize I probably didn’t give it enough time. However, I have been using CeraVe 4% BP wash with CeraVe retinol serum at night for almost a year and my acne has totally cleared! I had horrible cystic acne all over my cheeks, temples, chin, jaw 😭
i needed this video!! i was using only differen gel and then i got my old cystic acne back and was so discouraged. i bought benzoyl peroxide to help but wasn’t sure how to use it with my differen gel. thank you so much for your knowledgeable advice!
Hello Dr Dray. Thanks for your videos, they are excellent. But I have been using adapalene at night, even after applying cream, and my eyelids are flaking. I even get small cuts. What cream can I use before applying adapalene? the cerave burns me. I also bought Avene Cicalfate the first time my skin peeled. Is there any Korean cream option compatible with adapalene? I read in the comments that Lipikar am+ and Cleanance by Avene are some options. thanks for your reply!
I love your videos and thankfully I found this one. This is a great tip because my son is on Epiduo, but it's over $200 for a 45g bottle. It's a relief to know that we can mix the two on our own, which is a MUCH less expensive option and to know that we don't always have to incorporate BP to the adapalene (Differin). Thank you for this helpful video!
Hi Dr. Dray. I have over-done it with acne treatments and my skin is tight, red and flakey. Can I ask what you recommend for healing this quickly? Thank you!
I know you said you could use salicylic acid in the morning when using differin at night, but can I still use salicylic acid in the morning if I’m using benzoyl peroxide at night as well?
Try and see if it's not too much for your skin. Sometimes less is better because you're not messing with the skin barrier. However, it might work for your skin. Definitely use a good light face oil like marula. Best to give some days off, when you only rinse with water in the mornings and do full wash before bed.
I am binge watching your videos! I have a question...my teenage daughter is suffering from acne pretty moderately. She is using differin cream and the differen face wash. Is it too much to also put a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment too? Or just use the two she is currently using? Thank you! Oh, also what do u recommend for a moisturizer for acne sensitive skin?
I’ve been using Differin and Neutrogena 2.5% BP cream for about 3 months and it actually works. At the moment I have some red spots and can’t distinguish if it’s irritation or acne. Could this be from me using BP cream both morning and night? -I’m a big fan love your educational content ❤️
I was just searching videos about incorporating benzoyl peroxide spot treatment (benzac) & differin gel on skin care routine the other day. Luckily I am Dr. Dray's subscriber so I saw her new video. Thanks 😊
I noticed that there is an off-brand option in HEB for adapalene gel, it's pretty cheap. I would love to watch a video on HEB skincare finds in general!
I was told that benzoyl peroxide breaks down retinoids such as adapalene so they should be spaced (one in the morning and one in the evening). Do you find that it doesn't matter much?
Hi Dr Dray! Is there a difference between differin Cream vs. gel in terms of effects? I see some mixed reviews regarding the cream vs. gel. I got the cream and I've followed your tips on how to use it. So far I've only had minor purging, just some whiteheads coming up to the surface and I'm on my 2nd week. Is it any different with the gel? Thank you!
I have been using differin gel for the past 4 weeks , and the acne wouldn't stop , on my shin , and a bit on the cheek area , 22year old male , moderate acne
Thank you so much. I feel like this is about to change my life tbh. I have had some results with each reduction but neither alone has been enough. I do need a very hydrating moisturizer though because my skin gets dry.
So you should wash your face. Moistruise. Apply differin . After it dries completely well, apply Benzoyl Peroxide either as spot treatment if small pimples or area if you have bad areas. If used in a face wash it needs to be left for 3-5 minutes on and then rinsed with water.
For body acne and hyperpigmentation which one of your routines is more effective? This differin/benzoyl peroxide combo or cera ve moisturising cleanser and sa smoothing cream?
Do you still recommend applying moisturizer with a wet face before the differin? I just started it and I’m not sure if it’s penetrating. Thanks Dr. Dray!
hi dr dray! i'm not sure if you've made this video before, but could you talk about how to treat dark corners of the lips? I think i have sebacious filaments around my mouth, and the area is dark! i've tried using retinol around those areas (w/o any irriration) and glycolic acid (both using on different days) and i haven't seen results. what do you recommend? love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you so much for talking about the benzoyl peroxide. I was using the Differin gel with it randomly because my acne is so fierce. This has helped me so much. I also have a peelling nose and had an allergic reaction to prescribed doxycycline and was so upset because it worked at first. Is there something I could use over the counter for peeling nose? Thank you so much again.

What do you do for the scaring ? Can you please share
Please!!!! An updated face shaving routine while on retinoid/acids. Do’s and don’ts. Xoxo
I was just prescribed tretinoin and a clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide gel and I am SO excited to see the results!
How did your doctor tell you to use them? I also use clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide gel and am considering adding an OTC retinol to my routine!
Back when I was using that combo that’s when my skin was the clearest. Good luck!
started using panoxyl because of you. i had issues but i guess im on the skin purging face. its looking a bit better tbh! now im going to try this panoxyl + adapalene gel combo
I also appreciate the details and vast knowledge presented in your videos. You are a great doctor.
Omg! Thanks for responding, Dr Dray!! I appreciate it sooo much
Thank you for this, my doctor prescribed these two together because my acne started to get worse and i wasnt sure on exactly how to use them together
Wash ur face
Moisturize ur face
Apply adapalene gel on entire face
After it dries apply 2.5%BP as spot treatment
but what do we do in the morning? Just wash and Moisturizer?
Omg!!!! This is the information that I have been asking myself for months! I used to have epiduo and used it as a spot treatment. I got Differin and Benzoyl
Peroxide separately this time and i have been doing as you’ve said.
Good luck!

What was the formula with Curology?
Curology is the worst. My friend was using it for months and it made her skin even worse never got better.
@@jordanscott2259 just like proactive.
Differin is over the counter, you don’t need a prescription for it :)
You can buy both at the drugstore, you don’t need a prescription
Did it work better with the cleanser for you?
Do I still have to use a moisturizer if I use this combo treatment on my back acne? If so, what moisturizer you can recommend?
Heyy!! What is the difference between adapalene and adapalene microsphere??? And which is more effective?
Thanks Dr Dray and hope all you derm fans here are doing ok 🥰🥰🥰🇬🇧
U look so good today! Is it because of the natural light or what? The wavy hair looks so pretty!
Hello Dr.
Hi doc, what moisturizers I can use with adapalane and benzoyl peroxide? Thank you
I'm loving that blue on you. Yay for color! 💙
I literally just bought the differin gel & was wondering how I could use with Panoxyl!
Hey that’s the ones I have
saammmee
I have acne prone skin and when I used to have acne breakouts I stop using mu retinol n apply benzyl peroxide at night , but now thanks to dr dray I know I don't need to do that n i can use both of them together , thanks Dr dary ,😊
Thank you for all your contents ❤️ Dr Dray, can we use adapalene and sulfur together?
Thank you for saving us money! My face is at my best!
Hi Dr. Dray, I have a question: Can we use the Panoxyl and then adapalene in one routine, specifically in the night routine. Thanks in advance
Thank you for this information! May I ask if we can combine salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide for body acne?
Can I also add an exfoliant, like mandelic acid, to my routine with adapalene and benzoyl peroxide or is it too much?
What if I’m using for say a Benzoyl Peroxide face wash, do I apply differin gel directly after cleansing?
I used to dilute a whole tube of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel with water to make it milder and it was very effective :)
Just bought adapalene gel and was wondering is it possible to incorporate it into my skincare routine while being heavily relying on benzoyl peroxide to keep my acnes in control. Thank you so much Dr.Dray for providing such informational videos! ❤️
Hi Dr. Dray! Can I use this combo during the summer months? SPF of course thank you
I never got into Adapalene.
Omg I need to try ceraves acne wash.. your comment is my deciding factor in getting it 😂 hopefully it works! I love cerave
i needed this video!! i was using only differen gel and then i got my old cystic acne back and was so discouraged. i bought benzoyl peroxide to help but wasn’t sure how to use it with my differen gel.
thank you so much for your knowledgeable advice!
Here " well hey guys" intro always brightens up my mood lol
If using the benzoyl peroxide face wash when is the best time to moisturize? Would it be after the face wash, before the adaptaline gel?
I love your videos and thankfully I found this one. This is a great tip because my son is on Epiduo, but it's over $200 for a 45g bottle. It's a relief to know that we can mix the two on our own, which is a MUCH less expensive option and to know that we don't always have to incorporate BP to the adapalene (Differin). Thank you for this helpful video!
Hi Dr. Dray. I have over-done it with acne treatments and my skin is tight, red and flakey. Can I ask what you recommend for healing this quickly? Thank you!
Thank for you very thoughtful and truthful explanation
I’ve been waiting for this video for years thank you
I know you said you could use salicylic acid in the morning when using differin at night, but can I still use salicylic acid in the morning if I’m using benzoyl peroxide at night as well?
Vanicream is nice for acne-prone skin. It's formulated for sensitive skin.
@@ummesalmatahir6745That's the moisturizer my dermatologist gave me. I have super sensitive skin.
Thank you. The Differin one is wonderful. And even that is drying 😄
Dear Dr. Dray, Can I use Differin together with the ordinary niacinamide 10%? If so, how would I do that?
Thank you! Could you advise us on a routine on how to incorporate these two with sa for extreme teenage acne?
Does Benzyl peroxide have bleeching effect on skin too? Does it lighten dark spots thus?
I’ve been using Differin and Neutrogena 2.5% BP cream for about 3 months and it actually works. At the moment I have some red spots and can’t distinguish if it’s irritation or acne. Could this be from me using BP cream both morning and night?
-I’m a big fan love your educational content ❤️
Happy St Patrick's day everyone☘️
Back at you!☘️
Happy St. Paddy’s Day from Belfast, Ireland!
I use dollar general 8 dollar fragrance free dupe it’s great.
Is it available in Canada
I was told that benzoyl peroxide breaks down retinoids such as adapalene so they should be spaced (one in the morning and one in the evening). Do you find that it doesn't matter much?
After I use the benzoyl peroxide face wash, do I let my face dry or do I apply the differen gel it to a wet/damp face?
I used benzoyl peroxide for the first time last week as a 10 percent spot treatment and my skin literally peeled off leaving a bright red dry scar
You need to start off low % and work your way up
Which is more effective? This combination or Cerave resurfacing Retinol?
Thank you!
cream is for dry skin, gel is for oily skin
I have been using differin gel for the past 4 weeks , and the acne wouldn't stop , on my shin , and a bit on the cheek area , 22year old male , moderate acne
As always straight to the point !!
Dr dray I have been using 4% benzoyl peroxide face wash and clean it within 10seconds .should I leave it for more than 1minute to see results??
Good info, being responsible and cautios is always good.
I used adapalene two nights ago with tamanu oil. Needless to say, my skin has been dry for two days. Always use moisturizer with adapalene or suffer
Thank you so much. I feel like this is about to change my life tbh. I have had some results with each reduction but neither alone has been enough. I do need a very hydrating moisturizer though because my skin gets dry.
Hey, how is things going? Did your skin completely clear up?
Can you show us your night time skin care routine? Would love to see what you use
Thanks Dr. Dray!
So how long does it stay effective at killing the acne bacteria after use?
hi dr dray! i'm not sure if you've made this video before, but could you talk about how to treat dark corners of the lips? I think i have sebacious filaments around my mouth, and the area is dark! i've tried using retinol around those areas (w/o any irriration) and glycolic acid (both using on different days) and i haven't seen results. what do you recommend? love to hear your thoughts!
You are a saviour. Thanks Dr. Dray❤❤❤
