I started using Differin after watching Dr Dray. The first week or two my skin felt a bit dry and red, not that many breakouts though. I had been scared of "the purge" but I didn't get more acne than usual. Now, my skin is basically always clear, really changed my life. Thanks Dr Dray!
I love how you you always pick affordable products! I’ve noticed most dermatologists or pharmacists usually do but the “gurus” or wanna be experts hardly ever do unless their specifically talking drugstore options. Thanks for being honest, informative, and realistic! Your awesome Dr. Dray!
Look it's not like we could possibly make a statement like that. There are Dr's who suck, who don't suck, and just haven't heard the correct question. Please get more opinions from different Dr's and don't assume their all these evil people.
My BFF went to a dermatologist and the dermatologist just assumed she has a skincare routine and uses sunscreen... she doesn't and she has eczema... her skin is just flaking now..
@@ucchi9829 no offense to actually good doctors but some really don’t care. I went to my derm regarding getting red of blackheads and she literally told me to scrub my face with a walnut scrub once or twice a week...like what I’ve learned wayyy from dr dray and dr V than any irl doc I’ve ever visited..and I’m finally repairing all the damage I experienced due to bad advice of my irl derms
Just started using Differin last night and completely did EVERYTHING wrong!! Thank goodness it was only one night. So glad you explained the entire routine and thank you for the products to assist with it all…you are amazing. Your explanations of all the products were perfect. Thank you so much for helping us all!!
Same!! I used my salicylic cleanser and then applied the differin, THEN moisturized 😭 Thank God I had some sense to watch this and have saved myself future pain and irritation
Thank you very much Dr. I started my Diferin Journey and now on my third day. God is great, I definitely see a difference already. May God bless you all abundantly!
I'm annoyed, my dermatologist recommended this and Cerave moisturizer, and didn't give me any directions about how to use it, even though i told her i have dehydrated, dry skin. I've had such a rough 2 weeks, and someone responded this video to me. Thank you so much, i will try this
Girl! Same!, Mine told me to use it during the day everyday. I asked her to give me a rutine for blackheads only. I developed the worst acne breakout, cystic, huge, painful and all over
I used the moisturizer Cerave after applying my adapalene ...maybe on the 3rd day.. hence I needed something heavier. However it burned the crap out of my skin. I do have super sensitive skin though.

@@Sunshine-jf5ms Yeah! I took accutane before I went to the dermatologist who killed my face for a year. I had to take accutane for six month but I took it for three because the side effects got so bad, five years after that I tried adapalene and it's been seven years now, I had kinda clear skin, still have blackheads on my nose, I accepted they will be there forever. I tried oil cleansing method three months ago and it gave me an acne breakout similar to adapalene, I'm recovering now. Honestly I'm done screwing with my face hahahaha
Damn, my dermatologist told me to put differin before the moisturizer and she didn’t even mention that I should apply my moisturizer on wet skin. I never knew that honestly, and I have been in many different dermatologists. Glad you made a channel, you’re saving so many people’s skin. Thank you!
I’ve been following this routine to a T, using all the same products mentioned in the video. The first week or two was rough, but now after a few weeks my skin looks incredible. Thanks, Dr. Dray!
kk448 This video is old and it’s wild to see her use some of these products actually. She has more updated ways and better products to use. I highly recommend you watch more of her videos BUT it’s amazing you’re starting somewhere. I too have started to change my routine because of this woman she is literally saving my face ! :) Hope your skin improves and you’re feeling more confident with your skin! Good luck!
Same here! Ive suffered with moderate acne for 10 years and I’ve done this routine for about 2 months now and my skin has NEVER looked this good it’s ridiculous. I actually incorporated benzoyl peroxide from the beginning everyday with it as well (even though dr dray said not to lol) and I’m actually glad I did it because I feel like it helped in not suffering from the purging stage. It was just uphill from the the first day
Dr. Dray you literally gave me in 17 minutes more of a detailed and in-depth way of how to use my newly prescribed adapalene gel than my dermatologist did whom I saw today for a follow up. Keyword: follow up as in she didn’t explain to me the do’s and don’t’s of this product at the initial appointment or the follow up. So many things you explained in this video were things I was doing or weren’t doing and now I fully understand why I was experiencing so much irritation, dryness and peeling. I just went out and bought the Cerave healing ointment and I will be buying the Cerave sunscreen to apply in the mornings after using the oil free face wash (I have the exact same one you used). I appreciate this so much! Now, maybe I will start seeing some better results with my skin. This is truly a lifesaver for me. Thank you so so much! And if I can remember I will come back to this video in a couple of weeks and update you on how my skin is doing. Thank you so much!
Juliana It honestly has worked very well for me! My skin looks and FEELS so much better. The breakouts have really slowed down a lot and my skin is not peeling or stinging anymore like it was before. The tips Dr. Dray gave were amazing.
Dynamite Dynamite Yes I moisturize my face with oil free moisturizer in the evening before applying the adapelene. I’m not sure if it works for hyperpigmentation though.
Living in the humid south & having oily skin creates bad skin. Saw your 1st video on Differin and started using it. What a difference. Bought some for my teen age grand daughter and we both are enjoying better skin. Thank you, thank you so much. This video is the most comprehensive and easy to follow on any subject on youtube. Ever thought of teaching? You have a natural gift. Again, thank you.
Yvonne Phillips so happy this helped! I do teach residents and medical students as part of my job. Hope you are having a great night and staying cool 👍🏼
I’ve been using this routine for almost seven months now and it’s had great results! My acne has almost entirely cleared up (I still get small breakouts once in awhile). Although I still have a bit of acne scars it has helped a lot
Do you still use differin? I want to try it, and I’d say I have more mild acne, that is mostly small black/whiteheads. But I do not want to stay on a pharmaceutical forever yk? Is there even a point to start it if I’m not going to stay on it forever? Bought a bottle already tho so 😅
Bringing all of this info together in a single video along with a demonstration is a great idea. There is still a lot of confusion out there on the proper use of adapalene. Thanks for all that you do to spread correct information and for entertaining us in the process. Have a great day!
Thanks! I hope that it might help others and serve as a nice concise video, rather than people having to watch all of my January vlogs each time they have a question about it, lol. Hope you are having a great day!
this routine cleared my skin. The purging wasn't terrible, but it did last for a month with spots here and there. Some days were better than others. two months later and my skin is cleared than it's been in a long time. I've used differin before and it didn't work because of inconsistency and i was using it incorrectly!! Consistent use, application after a moisturizer, and using a gentle face wash is definitely the most effective way. Thankyou sm for this vid!
Mine either. I was peeling like crazy and my skin felt like card board (too dry) he never told me about the moisturizer or to start every 3 day etc. They should give written instructions on how to use it.
I started using Differin in January and it's ironically how I found your channel. Originally I was applying it to dry skin after washing as per many instructions. And while that worked once I switched to doing it your way (moisturizer first & Differin after) I found it worked so much better and with much less irritation & dryness.
I was also told to apply to dry skin, at least ten minutes after cleansing, and before moisturizing. Though I was told if I found it to be too irritating I could use after moisturizing. Will have to try this! Thanks :)
So this is brilliant! I am starting differen tomorrow Because my skin is currently at an ‘all-hope-is-lost’ stage. This video has so much knowledge and I kinda wish I lived wherever you are because you’d be an awesome doctor 👩⚕️
@@jasminee8107 oof. My skin was sore, pimples poppin all over the place. Peeling, itching, burning. Turns out I didn't even need that gel. My skin only breaks out during my cycle. Other than that, I just need the most mild of cleanser (soap free), mild lotion, and viola!
@@sams517 I don't use any of the leave on spot treatments. They were all messing my skin up. Now I just use a basic salicylic acne wash (by neutrogena) and ceramide night time creams. I only get a bad pimple during my time of the month. Other than that, my skin is clear. I just messed it up when I was using a ton of those creams lol
Dr. Dray, I want to thank you so much for taking the time and SHOWING us how to wash and apply products. Often, we're too shy to ask a dermatologist how to do the simplest things such as properly washing our face and even best ways to apply moisturizer. Since watching your channel, I've been applying moisturizer while my face is wet and its made a HUGE difference, I love it. I'm about to start differin and I love the proper directions that you gave us. You're the best!
i’ve been using differin for a bit over a year now (as recommended by my dermatologist) and i can’t believe i haven’t found this video earlier. thank you!
Tried Differin in my 16 year old daughter and her skin already looks better after one week. Thank you so much Dr. Dray for your informative videos. You're great!
Angie Randazzo how long u notice ur acne gettin better? I had prescribed the adapalene cream from my derm, n using only in 3 days my skin becomes so dry, red, peeling n scaly skin.. So sad so now i stopped it. Are u using moisturizer before or right after apply the cream?
Me too!! Have you gone through the purging phase? i’m so scared haha! Do u mind if i ask what products u used with it? i’m using the cerave foaming cleanser, cerave moisturizing cream and vaseline, only cause the healing ointment was sold out:(
I AM SO GRATEFUL! I’ve not been following these steps AT ALL. I had no idea that you can moisturise before applying differing!!! No wonder my skin has been so irritated. You definitely gave me hope in differin again. I was so close to giving up with it😭
I just started using this product a week ago and it is already making my skin irritated and dry. I will definitely try this routine instead. Thank you so much for this video :)
Thank you Thank you Thank you! This is my second time using Differin. The first time I used it my skin peeled like crazy and my skin was so dry! I found your video last week and what a difference! My face is no longer dehydrated and my skin is beginning to clear.
I recently started using adapalene. For the past several days, every time I apply moisturizer, my skin feels like it's burning. I realized that I may be using adapalene incorrectly. This video was so helpful and informative, I'm going to try this step by step routine. Thank you Dr. Dray!
The kind of dermatologist I would appreciate . My dermatologist didn’t seem to care, the whole visit was done within 12minutes, I kid you not. She kept pushing for me to get on high blood pressure medicine for hormonal acne!!! I said no and sticking to it
If it’s spironolactone, this is actually a very common acne prescription! However, it doesn’t hurt to start with non-medication methods. Obviously results and comfortability are also definitely person dependent, but being a blood pressure medication shouldn’t deter people as there has been a lot of research behind the effectiveness and safety of prolonged usage despite its primary use. My friend is on spiro and it has changed her life, skin looks flawless! Again, definitely depends on what people are comfortable with but providing another point of view that the med can work.
candyloveXo that’s great for her but I’m a true believer that medication like that will fix 1 thing but mess up others so I refuse any hormonal medication. That’s my opinion though. 😊
It’s been a few days since using differin. Very little purge/irritation. Great results so far and I’m already seeing some results. Make sure to keep HYDRATED. Honestly sunscreen is no joke, we MUST use it. NO EXCUSES. I’m so happy so far. Ever slight peeling in small areas that stopped after like two days. I can’t wait to see it further work it’s miracle in the weeks to come!
I’ve used tretinoin in the past and now I have been using adapalene from the past one month and I must say adapalene works for me .My trexture is gone and my face has got a healthy glow.thnx dr dray
thank you so much for the tip to protect your skin around the mouth and eyes!!! i wish i would have seen this sooner, i wrecked the skin around my mouth and im still trying to come back from it
Thank you, Dr. Dray! In my area it takes 6-8 months to get an appointment to see a Dermatologist so having your videos has been a real Godsend. I especially appreciate the use of generic ingredients and affordable- but just as effective- product lines minus any hype!
not sure since this is old and i havent watched alll of your videos, i think the most important part of this video has been how you moisturized (putting it on wet skin )and that you do so before the differin! if you did a short video about this it might really help people get into it and learn more from there. i just put off these videos for a while because they are longer, but that tip definitely opened me up and encouraged me to listen even more!
I just applied Differin to my skin for the first time while watching this video...no irritation yet! It seems amazing...thanks so much for such an informative video 😊
@@theboi3861 I've been using it for almost 3 months with a benzyol peroxide wash for the next morning and i'm on antibiotics too for my acne and I do feel like the Differin really does work! You just have to be consistent with it. Follow Dr, Dray's steps. That's what I've been doing. So far I've noticed my dark spots (hyperpigmentation) get lighter and I don't really break out as much as I used to anymore.
I stopped using Differin as it gave me severe skin peeling even though I was only using it 1 time per week. Now I use The Ordinary retinol and it is amazing.
I added today to my routine the benzoyl peroxide 2.5% because the differin gel can't handle all my skin issues and in 2 months I will edit this comment and write if my skin got better, I honestly trust in the routine I'm about to follow, I hope it works💕💕 Updates are done!!
My dermatologist, who charges a ridiculous amount for a barely 10 minute consultation, gave me a bunch of products including Differin to use and just told me to bear with the dryness if I can 🙄 I started using it and ended up with intense dryness all over my face, especially around the edges of my mouth which hurt!! Along with a breakout of pimples all over my chin and the sides of the mouth. THANK YOU DR DRAY, I WISH I SAW THIS EARLIER!!!! What a lifesaver ❤
Dr. Dray, I just wanted you to know that I have been using Differin for nearly a month now. I eased into it like you and now take weekends off. I use a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide in the AM -- and am even using Eucerin on my body. The difference in my skin is incredible. The purge stage came and went quickly. I can't remember the last time I broke out, nor am I experiencing hormonal acne. I feel confident wearing no make up. Thank you so much for your tips xx
This video genuinely saved me, was dealing with constant breakouts for months and my skin was getting worse and worse, finally the differin has completely stopped my breakouts and im now working on just clearing my scars, will keep using differin for life tho
It’s Day 1 of a long run working from home due to the COVID-19 crisis. As horrific as the news is, what better time to begin a Differin regimen? Thank you, Dr. Dray. The upside of the "purge" with adapalene is that, at least for me, my new pimples heal soooooo much faster than they would on their own. It's very obvious how differin accelerates the skin turnover process! Crazy.
I found the same was true for me! Most of mine would go away within 2-3 days, when it used to take a week or more. Still hoping the "purging" process ends for me sooner than later :')

My differin skin update: I am completing week 9 of using differin. Week 6 and 7 was when my skin was at its worst state, i kept getting new acne which would heal and then new ones would appear on the same area. They appear in clusters on my chin, forehead, jawline and the sides of my nose. I would assume it is a case of differin purge or my monthly hormonal acne. My skin felt rough and bumpy. I used Differin as directed by Dr Dray (moisturizer first, then apply differin) so i did not experience any dryness or flaking. Only once in a while, when i did not apply enough moisturizer, i get a bit of cracked skin around my nostril, but this goes away quickly. My skin right now (at week 9) has improved a lot, much better than when it was at week 6/7. I still have acne but not as much, and appearance of new breakouts seem to have slowed down. My left cheek is the clearest part of my face, very smooth and not much redness. With the recent pandemic, i have to wear a mask everyday when i go to work. This has resulted in some acne around that area. Not sure if it is good or bad that the mask helps to hide the acne but also subsequently cause more acne 😭
Thank you so much for posting this, I can't afford to go to the dermatologist and your videos are beyond helpful for me and others in the same position!!
Been using her technique almost to a T for 2 weeks now (differin gel used every other night) and i've seen significant improvement in my skin. I still get pimples but when I do they usually go away within a day. At first I was just using the same hydrating cleanser she used at night in the morning too but I finally just got the oil free acne wash so I have now started using that in the morning instead. I want to work my way up to using the differing gel every night but I think I will wait for the month mark to start doing so since it has been working so well thus far with every other night. I'm kicking myself that I didn't try this sooner and this channel has taught me so much about skincare and acne! I feel so stupid for using harsh exfoliating face washes for years that probably worsened my acne :( But glad I am now on the right track.
Thank you sm! Super pissed dermatologists never tell us these things when prescribing.
Note: I have oily skin, so no dryness for me. Before adapalene, I struggle with a lot of closed comedones and a few pimples. It's the only active I use at the moment. I also use the sandwich method. 🌝Week1-2 (use once a week): nothing happened 🌝Week3-4 (use twice a week): My face has become more oily for some reason and I sense break out coming! 🌚Week5-6 ( use three times a week): a few more pimple than before. 🌚Week7-8: same amount of pimples as week5-6, but it has double its size and very inflame. I think this was the worst so far. 🌚Week9-11: old pimple gone, new ones appears. There are days I feel like it's going to get better and the next morning I have opposite thought. I saw some scaring from here. 🌚Week12 (use five times week): The scar is here. Not just pie or pih, but true scar on the side of my forehead. I did not see any improvement except closed comedones. 🙃I'm going to continue for another month.

Look it's not like we could possibly make a statement like that. There are Dr's who suck, who don't suck, and just haven't heard the correct question. Please get more opinions from different Dr's and don't assume their all these evil people.
They want your moneyyyyyy
My BFF went to a dermatologist and the dermatologist just assumed she has a skincare routine and uses sunscreen... she doesn't and she has eczema... her skin is just flaking now..
@@ucchi9829 no offense to actually good doctors but some really don’t care. I went to my derm regarding getting red of blackheads and she literally told me to scrub my face with a walnut scrub once or twice a week...like what
I’ve learned wayyy from dr dray and dr V than any irl doc I’ve ever visited..and I’m finally repairing all the damage I experienced due to bad advice of my irl derms
@@agustinatomas2433 oh girl sound like me in high school...20 or so yrs ago though. I had to end up getting on the oral medication...I cannot think of the name it's not an antibiotic or trenton... It might be an option for you if literally nothing else has worked. I also found a routine that helps so much w blackheads that's all I've had in years after the treatment. I'm so sorry if your interested in the name I will come back and comment. I'm just having a brain fart r smthn cant think of it. Good luck to yall both take care of your skin young!
@@agustinatomas2433 Accutane is the name of the oral medication I took. Downside it has lots of side effects.
Thank you!
I mean u don’t have to moisturise before differin but it helps with reduces irritation.
Direction on the package actually suggest to put it after washing and before any other product
everytime she goes "okay?" i answer "okay."
I say: yes doctor!
revelink strawberry i luv that she’s very firm haha

Grease the orifices has become a mantra for me when applying any sensitizing products to the face.
Good luck!
Do you use it everyday?
@@SMarie5541 What top three videos do you recommend? 🙂
Shiloh Ryan which ones should i watch? I need new products for an entire routine asap for acne/redness.
Hi do you have to moisturise your skin before applying Differin in the evening and can Differin treat deep hyperpigmentation too ? Thanks
Lizann Butler has it helped?
Juliana It honestly has worked very well for me! My skin looks and FEELS so much better. The breakouts have really slowed down a lot and my skin is not peeling or stinging anymore like it was before. The tips Dr. Dray gave were amazing.
Dynamite Dynamite Yes I moisturize my face with oil free moisturizer in the evening before applying the adapelene. I’m not sure if it works for hyperpigmentation though.
LaDurius Hare Yes! It has helped my skin a lot!
When do you start to see changes? I'm already doing this routine for two months.
Frinett Guillermo For me personally, the results progressed little by little but I started noticing at maybe four months or so.
@@katheryna.3002 thanks for sharing.
Hey was this a good routine for pigmented acne scars ??
Do you still use differin? I want to try it, and I’d say I have more mild acne, that is mostly small black/whiteheads. But I do not want to stay on a pharmaceutical forever yk? Is there even a point to start it if I’m not going to stay on it forever? Bought a bottle already tho so 😅
I love how Dr Dray uses all of these AFFORDABLE products!! Makes me think of all the money I’ve thrown away on expensive products 😭😭😭
Same
Bringing all of this info together in a single video along with a demonstration is a great idea.
Thanks and glad it was helpful :)
How is your skin almost one year from now? Are u still using the same steps?
Britcakesandrainbows how was your experience applying differin to dry skin vs moisturized skin?
How were you using it incorrectly
Is the galderma brand alright?
My own dermatologist never told me to apply a moisturizer prior to a retinoid. Thank you. 💕
I was told to combine trentinon with a serum and use it avoiding eye and mouth area, at night and stay out of sun, use sunscreen. That’s it.
So glad the tip helped and thanks for sharing your experience in the comments! Hope you are having a great day!
I was also told to apply to dry skin, at least ten minutes after cleansing, and before moisturizing. Though I was told if I found it to be too irritating I could use after moisturizing.
Will have to try this!
Thanks :)
Same here I have been applying to dry skin and then moisturizing ten minutes later! Definitely going to try it your way tonight!
Shannon Graham me too. Instruction didnt say to use moisturizer before hand so now I have to put on.

Dr. Dray, I want to thank you so much for taking the time and SHOWING us how to wash and apply products. Often, we're too shy to ask a dermatologist how to do the simplest things such as properly washing our face and even best ways to apply moisturizer.
you just saved me because i was using that exact face wash with salicylic acid. i’m so glad i found this out in the first week of use!

The upside of the "purge" with adapalene is that, at least for me, my new pimples heal soooooo much faster than they would on their own. It's very obvious how differin accelerates the skin turnover process! Crazy.

Update
My differin skin update:
I am completing week 9 of using differin.

As a teenager cursed with stubborn blemishes and ALWAYS being prescribed retinoids which have always caused intense irritation and failure, these video really helped me preserve my sensitive skin and allow the retinoid to do its job. Super pissed dermatologists never tell us these things when prescribing.
Hello!❤ I don't know who is reading this, but i'm starting adapalence today. I will update my results here to keep me motivated.
Update?
Note: I have oily skin, so no dryness for me. Before adapalene, I struggle with a lot of closed comedones and a few pimples. It's the only active I use at the moment. I also use the sandwich method.
🌝Week1-2 (use once a week): nothing happened
🌝Week3-4 (use twice a week): My face has become more oily for some reason and I sense break out coming!
@@Catalyticconverter1999Hi. I updated mine here if you're still interested 😊
@@heangkun7061 Hello, it's normal that you have acne breakouts, it removes the pimples under the skin, it's part of the treatment, give me news more often to see how you're doing :)
@@heangkun7061How is it going, did you continue using the gel?

Two inches away from the camera: "Can you appreciate that guys?"
Me: Yes, my queen
Yes my queen 😭😭😭
love the epiduo dupe tip. It has been a game changer for my skin
Wish I watched this before I started using it! Went through the purging stage and was so afraid. Your video really relieved my skin and made it feel so nice and hydrated! Thank you!
Dermatologists who do this for free are angels from heaven 😢❤❤❤
