Currently I have 6,800 miles when I hit 7,500 I will record a valve video for sure. Desmoquattro sells his service manual at www.desmotimes.com/maintenance2.htm
Hey, Brotheus! My bike has low mileage, about 2k, but belts are still from the factory. It was mostly sitting in the garage. Do I need valves adjustment aswell, or belt replacement will suffice? I mean, 2 years passed long ago, but the valves' adjustment mileage is still a long way from coming..
Since your bike was sitting the valves shouldn't need adjustment as there is no wear and tear. The belts are different story it depends on the environment I would replace belts every 3 years if you haven't hit the mileage.
Does service manual recommend to turn engine over than to re check belt tension again? To take out any slack in belt. That is the way i always do csr timing belts
I was told if you set your belt tension and turn the engine over you will get a different reading. When you install your belts initially tighten belts by hand and then turn your engine a couple times to remove any binding, and then set belt tension. This isn't rocket science set your belts and ride!
Thanks for sharing this explanatory video Nathan. Did you replace the cam belt tensioner (flange locking) nuts or you used the old ones ?? I think they are supposed to be replaced every 2nd belt change.
Hi mate ! Is it an engine whine or is it a bearing whine ? (i think they're called bearing - french person right here) You see, the pulleys and tensioner pulleys are mounted on bearings and these need to be replaced sometimes. They're held by circlips in the back, just get the pulleys off their mounting stud. You'll just need circlip plyers, a hammer and a couple sockets to get the bearings out. If the whine doesn't come from the bearings, then i have no clue
Hey man great video! I really want to get a 1098 for my next bike but really can’t deal with the 800$ service bill. Do i need any special tools to be able to do this?
Thought you might know how to help me since you look like you’ve got some knowledge! I have a 2008 1098s and while riding today after about an hour, it started cutting out really bad and finally died. It’ll start back up but doesn’t last long. I’d love some thoughts on it if you don’t mind. Let me know how you want to communicate and I can make that happen. Thank you in advance.
Make sure you can hear your full pump prime when you turn the key on. Also make sure you have a full tank of gas. If its intermediately running it sounds like a fuel issue.
@@brotheus6310 It seems like it only starts cutting out when it gets warmed up. I'll listen for those things and get back with you though. I have a whole list of items I'm going to start troubleshooting. Thank you sir! Great videos!
You can use any frequency measuring app on your smartphone to achieve the same result. This guy did it on his 1198S: ua-cam.com/video/VAAoot2L7Dg/v-deo.html
I know and your right, I would not be able to do what you did in the vid... Respect. I have had my 848 for over 9 years and just think the 2 year rule for the belts is mad and overkill. people with the bike in the garage who have done zero miles end up changing the belts. Surely it must depend on humidity climate environment ect, belt tension or reliability would not change or the change would be negligible. the two year rule is a money-making exercise. the mileage rule makes sense
Thanks for the recording. We all appreciate how you simplified it for us.
Thank you. Seriously. If I owned a Ducati dealership you would be a leader. I owe you.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I work the basic maintenance task on my own 1198 but I think this is too much. Kudos to you!
Im thinking about doing mine.
You make it look so easy.
Thank you so much for posting.
Really no Rocket Science.
Great Video 👍
Thanks for posting this video!
do you have the specs to put the belt tensioner tester to like Mass Span and Width? thanks
Awesome vid. Any plans on making another for the valves anytime soon?
Also, where did you get a factory service manual from?
Currently I have 6,800 miles when I hit 7,500 I will record a valve video for sure.

I like your videos... I have 1198s 2009.
Hye from France
Hey Brotheus,
Did you put the vertical cylinder in its top dead center position before measuring the tension of the vertical belt ? If yes, why so ?
Hey, Brotheus! My bike has low mileage, about 2k, but belts are still from the factory. It was mostly sitting in the garage. Do I need valves adjustment aswell, or belt replacement will suffice? I mean, 2 years passed long ago, but the valves' adjustment mileage is still a long way from coming..

@@brotheus6310 yeah, belts are already ordered. Thanks for reply, you are da man. These tutorials is a blessing.
Thank you for your video ,but I have one question ,if I dont use CRANKSHAFT TURNING TOOL is ok??
Kawai So you can put the bike in 1st gear and turn the rear tire and that will spin your engine. It's much easier with the tool it's cheap to purchase

No I didn't replace them this was this bikes first time belt replacement you are correct they should be replaced at least on the second usage.
Nice job...👏👏👏👏
Hey brotheus! Was wondering if you had an issue with an engine whine yet on your 1098?
ooopepper not yet. I haven't heard of engine whine issues with these bikes...

when is the valve adjustment and timing belt service is usually required?
Every 2 years

You sure do. Watch the full video I mention all special tools...
Don’t mess with Ducati’s they are piece of crap . Go Japanese or Germany bmw 1000rr

I should measure the belt tension for data before I take it off?
No you check tension when your installing it again. There is already a defined spec for tension.
Ok
@@brotheus6310 Hertz is it the same for 848 evo?
Is it the same for 848?
does anyone have any tips for getting the belts on? Im finding it really difficult to do so
Has anyone experienced a tapping noise after changing their belts or am I hearing things? Sounds pretty new.
Super
Can i do it without tension tester?
Could you tell me where you get your tension meter?
Found one on eBay for a reasonable price.
Hey man do you stay in Dallas Texas cuz I'm going to buy a Ducati and I need advice
961camaro I'm in Arizona. I can give you advise just comment
Dude check your personal timing belt, you FARTED on the minute 4:07 LOL...WTF hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha
Hahaha sometimes you gotta let it rip good ear
Nice video man. Very instructive.
Yes I heard him too ....and he doesn't give a f??? Just continued tutorial like a boss
It sounded like the 848 when u rev it
Hey mate I think I could smell that fart wtf
Hi how cost the belt tension meter?
I got really lucky and got one used for $120. I saw them new going for +$500.

im not very mechanical minded wish i could do what you could i woukldve still had my 999s lol thinking of getn a 1098 2007 very inspiring
Do it! These bikes aren't that difficult to work on.
Yoooo so we just gonna ignore 4:05?? 🤣😂😂😭😭👌💀
That must have been a frog near by or something 😁
Bit of a faff about, I’d sooner have a chain cam driven motor. Nice bike all the same.
R u a mechanic?
Nope, just a guy with a passion.
Changing belts every two years is a waste of time, I haven’t changed mine in four years and they’re perfect granted I have not exceeded 15,000 miles
Just reiterating what Ducati specifies in the service manual...
