  • How I replace the timing belts on the Testastretta engines.
    Shot using a GoPro Hero 7 Black set on 2.7k / 60 / Linear.
    Edited with Microsoft Movie Maker and saved using "UA-cam" setting.
    I'm still learning about this stuff and what works best, so feel free to comment if you have suggestions with regard to the recording and editing side of things.

    Exactly how I like to be taught how to do something...anything for that matter. You are a good instructor and thank you for taking the time to put this on UA-cam.

    Thanks for posting this up. I remember when these first came out and people were worried that it would be extremely complicated to change the belts. With a methodical approach and your explanation, it doesn't seem to be quite so daunting. Thanks again! 👍👍.

    Great video! Short and to the point without overcomplicating the job. No magic, just common sense. Thanks for sharing and best wishes from upstate New York.

    Great video! This helped me change the timing belts so easily for the first time. Short and to the point. If I could add any information at all, I would say that it's a challenge to remove the vertical timing cover until I realized I needed to twist it around the back side of the engine and pull up.
    Well done!

    this is awesome, have a 749 been sitting in garage for over 10yrs so just started organsing parts to have a crack at servicing it and getting it running great video clear and very informative can't wait to see you produce more video's on the 749/999/998 ducati's

    you make it so simple!!! i watched other videos , people counting teeth ,counting spaces, making all sorts of marks, and i'm asking myself is all that necessary? why not just line up the gears to where they need to be and put the belts on? why do people mark the belts and count teeth?
    thank you

      because they're afraid of screwing it up and they see others doing it that way saying you have to.

    Really well shown, I guess the point you measure the frequency is important i.e. between the drive gear and the concentric adjuster?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  3 роки тому +2

      the ducati spec is between the drive pulley and adjuster bearing on the horizontal and between drive pulley and idler bearing on the vertical.

  • @imandenhaan5742
    @imandenhaan5742 3 роки тому

    Thanks, great video! Have you modified the ring spanner to move the adjuster bearing? Mine kept slipping off so I ended up using an adjustable wrench which wasn’t great.

      yes, just a few minutes on the bench grinder.

    Great video, I’m looking to attempt this on my 2007 1098s. Is it the same as you’ve demonstrated, and which direction and gear did you have the bike in?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  4 роки тому +1

      pretty much the same yes. i spin them in second gear usually, normal direction of wheel travel. if you go backwards you drive the starter through the drive system, it adds a lot of effort. can take some effort. use an engine turning tool if you want to make it easier.

    For Ducati 999, would valve clearance measurements be different with timing belts on vs timing belts off?
    Do you have to measure with belts off or on? Thank you,

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  3 роки тому +1

      i only check valve clearances with the belts off.

    Do you ever set a variance in setting rear cylinder belt tension to account for that cylinder running a slightly higher temperature?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  6 місяців тому

      no. it's a liquid cooled engine so there really shouldn't be any variation due to airflow.

    Great video Brad, thank you so much. You took all the confusion of tooth counting out🤣 I've noticed a small leak of grease from the horizontal pulley bearing, so I ordering new bearings too. Do you have any advice on replacing these? Much appreciated

    Is the comment you make about the 848/1098/1198 the only difference to what is shown? Is that an App on your phone to measure Hz??

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  4 роки тому

      Yes, the vertical cam end slot orientation is the only difference. The app used is Gates Carbon Drive, which I think is a push bike drive belt app primarily. I also use n-track tuner as well, which is a guitar tuning app that gives a heap of frequency peaks on a log graph.

    Cool. This seems a lot simpler than other videos I've seen. So no need to mark the belts to guarantee alignment?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  3 роки тому +1

      really, it's up to you to do whatever you need to do for it to make sense to you. i never have, but some people like to do it.

    Hi, my 999 exhaust smells very bad, like acidic, is that fuel mixture problem? What do you suggest? My friend followed me in his car and said exhaust smells very bad also. Like the bike is not burning right.

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  2 роки тому +1

      the big ring spanner is a 26mm (i think, must be), and the small spanner is 12mm.

    I noticed the oil feel line beside the oil pressure sensor is routed differently than other Testastrettas Ive seen (including my 998). Do you know why that might have been changed on this bike?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  2 роки тому

      looks like a 2005> model, maybe they changed the hose. different part # listed 04 vs 06. i don't recall now. as for the history of this specific bike - no idea.

    I’m sure I read somewhere that CCW belts are set at 100hz new, is that right? Great video. 👍

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  4 роки тому

      i use 110hz on all models, except on the later (2005>) 2v ds engines when i use 100 as they can get noisy when hot over 100, and the mts1200 dvt where the spec is 90hz. there's a guy on the ducati ms forum who preaches a whole lot, but doesn't actually work on the bikes who claims you have to use 99 or something like that with the exactfit belts.

    Thanks for the excellent video Brad. Question for you - as there are now several brands of belt available these days, is there a brand you recommend? Or more importantly, one you would recommend definitely NOT to use? Ta.

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  4 роки тому +1

      i'm the australian distributor for california cycleworks products, so i use the exactfit belts or genuine if a customer specifies that. otherwise, i haven't tried any others.
