What I find amazing in the 81 comments here is that nobody has mentioned the great Steve Upton.!
Without question, one of the best drummers of his generation. Thanyou Mr Upton, along with Martin Turner they were the driving force of this wonderful band.
totally agree - he's indeed a great great drummer ! ! !
Do you remember he always used to get up from his stool behind the drum kit, come to the front and say hello to the audience at some point during their heyday.
@@beawsbiz Your dead right. I remember shaking his hand, Manchester 1972. He even had the courtesy to say thankyou. . Great memories from 51 years ago.
Agreed 👍👍👍
one of the best Bands off all time
Ted Turner was an incredible guitarist .Love it this first lineup
Ted Turner's Strat-playing was poignant beauty !!!###
Bought "Argus" in 1972 and have been a fan ever since. Nice to see this video has the original members in the band.
Still have my Argus album from 72.
Live Dates was my first introduction to this fantastic group. I have been a big fan ever since.
I'm 72 yrs old now. Saw them in '73, in my top 10 of all time. Blew me away. Was my 2nd. concert. Great musicians great vocals 👍👍👍
Other 9 in your top? ❤️
I also saw them in 73 in Cincinnati and 50 years later in 2023. Needless to say the 73 concert was better but I enjoyed both.
I wish I had seen these shows at that time 1974, I was 18 then. So in the last 15 years I have seen them often, but the original setup is unbeaten. Well, I am happy that videos exist from that time long ago.
Unbelievable how Ted and Andy played together. This setup is the alltime best.
What a band! What a find!
Thank you for this wonderful upload 👍🇮🇪
I saw them in 1975 in Melbourne, excellent concert.
WoW ! One of my All Time Fave bands ! 😄
Freaking great stuff here! One of the bands that defines 70’s rock!
Saw them in 72 and 74 i think brighton dome still fav band
correct!!..I saw Martin Turner's band in Chihuahua, Mexico..and he present Ted Turner as a special guest !!..incredible!!! . especially that they played from the LP "Pilgrimage !!..
Wow vaya sorpresón... Debe ser lo máximo!!
Some of the best concert nights of my life were spent watching the band in the 70s, especially in the period just before this
concert. All members were just so damn good, nobody ever mentions the excellent Steve Upton on drums. I read somewhere
he now runs a guest house in France, I wonder if he ever thinks back to those days.
I definitely noticed Steve Uptons drumming..loved his playing!❤
@@williewilycat9675 Steve Upton was one of the best drummers of all time IMO.
Anybody who wrote Leaf and Stream will do for me... Steve Upton,. right up there with the best of 'em..
Holy Crap! This is just before Ted quits. So glad I found this.
Even though it says the date of the show is 5. 1. 74. That doesn't mean May first, this is the English way of showing dates, which in this case this "broadcast" was shown on TV, January fifth, 74. Or was this the concert date too ? Can't trace down exactly when this was filmed. Ted Turner (right hand side) played his last show on February 23, 74. He did rejoin in May, 89. I saw them, first time at the old Auditorium Theatre, in Chicago in Sept. 73, ("Flash", were the warm up band), then again, the day after Thanksgiving 73, Nov. 23. At a High School gymnasium in Wheeling, Illinois. They were so fantastic, blew everyone away.
The presenter in introduction says that this concert took place last December, 15th (so in 1973). But this date isn't mentioned on the different archived tour dates which are on the dedicated websites (for instance Martin's one or in the book written by Andy)
Saludos 🖐️
Beautiful document 😊 First time I saw them in Düsseldorf's Philipshalle in the mid 70ies when AC/DC opened for them. Laurie Wisefield was in the band. The energy of the original lineup has never been surpassed.
Was Cliff in AC/DC at that point? The 2 ex-Home members on the same tour
@@konstantinov I am not sure, but I don't think so. The show was before 1977.
The absolute masters. Anyone that says they have seen Wishbone Ash recently is misguided. This is the REAL DEAL. Nothing else comes close.
49 years ago today, awesome
What a remarkable find! Heavily edited but still a wonderful reminder of the line up with Ted Turner.
My all time favorite band and Argus is my all time favorite album
Agreed. Took me a while but i really grabbed hold of the genius they went for on that album after living with it a few years.
First time i hear it i was hooked ,was 17 now 70 still hooked amazing LP ARGOS @@konstantinov
One of my favorite album covers
Obrigado...do Brasil.
Just awesome!
Amazing! Loved these guys back then
Everyone can see that Martin Turner is Wishbone Ash
Just saw Wishbone Ash a month ago in Sellersville, PA. They did almost the entire Argus Album. It felt like 1972 all over again. Love these guys. Mucho Grazie!!!!
I saw them in 1972, The Bob Seger System opened for them and Blue Oyster Cult was the lead off band. I think concert was $2.50, Miami Jai-Alai Fronton

First saw Wishbone ' live' in 71 Did alot of first album and Pilgrimage and a few new songs from an Lp no one had heard of yet ....Argus ...the rest is history .I also joined the fanclub in 71
Fantastic band, absolutely brilliant. Takes me way back to my teens. Thank you.
😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦
They deserve a lot more credit than they have been given - maybe because it's so hard to put them in a specific bag! I saw them at the Oval Cricket grounds at the Melody Maker Pole Winner's Concert in 1973. A legendary band!
Brilliant !
A few nights ago, I watched the Hipnosis documentary, Circling the Square, about their process and the wild days at that album cover studio. Jimmy Page was interviewed extensively since Zep had many album covers designed by Hipnosis, and he commented about how much he liked the singular image of Wishbone Ash's Argus album cover.
I bought back in the day the live Dates album purely for it's artistery design from Hipgnosis..... the yellow desert struck an inner string of my soul...... after I listened to the concert footage of this unknown band it struck another string of my soul....... amazing songs from an amazing Live band!
Been a fan from the Ash eversince thanks to Hipgnosis.......
Love that Firebird.
ahem...Thunderbird.

Indeed my friend, indeed.
Andy Powell's version of Ash is a far cry from the original band, he basically stole the brand and name from Martin Turner, Turner Ex-Wishbone Ash band is much more true to the original band
Agree completely this the real wishbone ash not the current a cartoon of ash ( one of my favorite bands ), the same happened to my favorite Jethro Tull band , currently a shame band .
Can only state my truth Andy told me he asked Mart to reform don’t know if it was true. So he waited for Mart but no reaction so he created his own Wishbone lineup.
As I say I don’t know if this is true
@@Saffy-yr8vo that figures coming from him, then explain why he took legal steps to steal the name, his actions contradict his statement, to be fair why not reach out to Martin and get his story, thanks for reply
Martin left the band. Andy stuck with it and kept the brand alive. 15 years later, Martin decides he can cash in on Andy's hard work and sues him in court. Not cool IMHO.
Pity, coz Martin's voice is an integral part of those early classics
Essa Balada, embala meus sonhos sonoros, à décadas ! MARAVILHA
Love WA, saw them warm up for the Who in 73, almost took the show away. But this video crushed the introduction. How can anyone do that? Unforgivable. That was the best piece of music here. Can anyone find the orig tape? But . .. thanks so much for posting!
Strange how it morphed into the end of Phoenix too. Looked a great concert. Thanks for posting
The tapes are probably in the faults of the Swiss television......... I hope it will see the light of day soon for us to enjoy the full live version of Phoenix.......... the last minute sounded promising........ fingers crossed
Absolutely golden post a dream to see this footage of Ash in their peak!
still love it!!
awesome!!!!
☮ Ah, os longínquos anos 70........ - tudo de bom. Saudades.
One of the best Bands ever. ( The camera Director or the Cameramen themselves had no fuc#ing clue of who was playing what ! LOL )
thanks for posting--unfortunately no The Pilgrim.
They were innovative at that time.
Bel gruppo
This is the original line up. Saw them twice. Musically the best band ever, just lacked a serious front man.
starzy wymiatacze

that looks to be a mid 50s strat that ted is playing
Your right but slightly later, well spotted though. He was some player though was Ted..
56 or 57 would be my guess i had read somthing written by andy that on early us tours they would go to pawn shops in the south to find these highly prized fenders@@mozartsmate6358
Excellent band
yes ,to all the comments below
Very good rare footage of the great Wishbone Ash. Spoilt a little bit by some poor camera work; the dual lead guitars certainly confused the production crew.
I found Lch Andy Rch Ted
such I understand. this video!
@0:00 looks like Dr. Minestrone.
pure gold!!!!!!!!
The Original Ash is the Best!!
Not the greatest guitarists in the world, but they wrote great songs!
Me thinks you're on a wind up, lumber.?
No one tops andy powell.
No such thing as best, great guitarists yes and they up there with the best of them.
