Even if people grow older, there is always a new generation waiting for beautiful music!
I am 65. I like reading comments on youtube about REAL music, that transformed peoples mentality to a better personality for a better world and I am happy to see that even for a few young people, still gives them a reason to be optimistic about the future!
Yeah, I see your point. I was a little "late to the party" also. I bought my first album in 1975, "Wishbone Four". I instantly got hooked on their songs. In my world then, only Genesis could compete from a musical standpoint. I still love them, and keep on playing their records. 💋

My favorite for 40 years.
Without a doubt, one of the best and most important groups of great and wonderful English rock, from the early 70's to today. Since I first heard the album Argus in 1973 or '74, I fell in love with the beautiful sound of Wishbone Ash. One of the best records in history, Argus has put this group in the stratosphere. To this day, when I hear one of his songs, I get touched as I first heard it in the '70s. Long live for Wishbone Ash, the best among the best!
I discovered Wishbone Ash music when I was 10 years back in 1971. It was by luck that I discovered their music because my grandmother belonged to Reader's Digest record club and for reasons unknown to me the Wishbone Ash Argus LP album arrived at her home that day (I'm sure my grandma, or grandpa, didn't order the record, and still don't know who order it) but anyways I was there that day and so I listened to the whole album and immediately fell in love with the band and their music. A year or two later, I bought this LP and I couldn't stop listening to it and 'Everybody Needs a Friend' was my favorite song on the album. That was over 45 years ago and the song still sound as good and sweet as when I first heard it. It's a timeless song.
Drummer Steve Upton had an unorthodox style. Drums set up for standard r handed player yet striking the hi hat w left stick & snare w the right stick if I remember correctly. Jazz quick but powerful. Melded perfectly with his bandmates. Among the very best English drummers w Ian Paice.

Wishbone Ash was allways a Band for insiders of good music 1973 we had not so much money to buy there albums, but my sisters husband had all the albums, so I know there music and later it was mine, today RockanRoll Widow I hearwith tears in my eyes
"radical departure from Argus" ? no ... except that "Argus" had that 'quasi-medieval" suite of songs on the second side - which, from "FOUR" - songs like 'Sorrel' and 'Ballad of the Beacon' would have neatly fit right in. The first side of "Argus" was basically unrelated rock 'n' roll songs - here, 'Doctor,' 'So Many Things to Say,' and 'Rock 'n Roll Widow' are much of the same. Looking at the band's work today, there's nothing that different with '... Friend' as they done many a softer rock song since. Even parts of "Pilgrimage" had moments like this. "FOUR" was not a concept album, and only half of "Argus" was ... that's the main difference.

Heard this Band(this song) i believe around 1970-73 at the time i worked in small Motel in Luang Prabang Laos, an american tourist who stay in the motel gave us this album, could not remembered his name...love it since thanks to him who had open my eyes
Luang Prabang, in the early seventie's must have been a very exotic place to visit. Interesting story...😁 I went there in 2010 on my bicycle, and it was quite a tough slog through the mountains. It's now completely "touristified", of course, but still a nice place to hang around in. They even had an ATM, which was a rare thing for rural Laos, then. 🌈
Love this band they have a double album called live dates saw them in 1973 at the Rainbow Ballroom in Fresno California one of the greatest concerts that I've been to they weren't too big in the West Coast
how interesting. I just realised from the comments that there are many Wishbone Ash fans from Thailand. I too first heard the band's music when I was living in Thailand in the late 1980s. I heard this song on a compilation and then a live band played a cover of Ballad of the Beacon. Both gems from Wishbone Four, which isn't even their greatest album! Cheers all! - From Malaysia

There is a video on UA-cam of this song which always brings me to tears. It shows people helping others, and welcoming friends and family back. If you have a chance see it. Trust in me, I'll try to do
Everything to help you that I can
Broken wings can heal and mend again
Don't be afraid to cry your tears out loud
Everybody needs to have a friend
It's only love that I can give
And I give to you the only love I have
When I see you're in misery
It makes me want to try and understand
Everybody needs a helping hand
If everything should turn around
And it's me who feels so down and out
You could be the kind of company
To share a load and know how bad it feels
Everybody needs to have a friend

Trust in me, I'll try to do Everything to help you that I can Broken wings can heal and mend again Don't be afraid to cry your tears out loud Everybody needs to have a friend It's only love that I can give I give to you the only love I have When I see you're in misery It makes me wanna try and understand Everybody needs a helping hand It's only love that I can give I give to you the only love I have When I see you so unhappy It makes me wanna try and understand Everybody needs a helping hand If everything should turn around And it's me who feels so down and out You could be the kind of company To share a load and know how bad it feels Everybody needs to have a friend...
I don't understand people with negative feedback/opinion!
Wishbone Ash was allways a Band for insiders of good music 1973 we had not so much money to buy there albums, but my sisters husband had all the albums, so I know there music and later it was mine, today RockanRoll Widow I hearwith tears in my eyes
Its one the best songs ever written. It moves me to tears. Wishbone 4 is an amazing album.
Beautiful work, great guitars and lovely Mellotron in the background.
rzeczywiście,zgadzam się,ponadczasowy.........
There are songs that we would like them to never stop, this one is part of it.
Den Lig ive been listening to this song for 45 years so beautiful
Jestem z roku 60. Ta piękna muzyka będzie mi towarzyszyć do końca mych dni.
Lata 70- niezapomniana Trojka program 3 Polskiego Radia.

Piękna kompozycja wspomnienowy czas zimowy..
Found out about this band in '70 while listening to a local underground prog station. Error Of My Ways and Handy caught my ear.
Nice write up on this song and the album. Thanks +Cozzmick67
Wishbone Four is still one of my favorites from the band. A tremendous talent in this band and this album.
"Sing Out The Song" reminds me of the 'old days so dear.'
"Everybody Needs A Friend" really has a powerful timeless message.
This track along with their album “Argus” are Wishbone Ash’s finest moments.
One of the best bands from the 70s. For those who like this fine tune may I suggest their album ARGUS. It is very good like all of there music btw I've been into wishbone ash since the mid 70s. And still listen to them.
To me..this is an immortal song that I 'd love to hear for always. We all need at least a friend.
This song means more as you get older.
Yes it does
Depending on how many original friends are still around
72 here and still rockin to ASH.Their music will never get old.
Tego potrzebowałem po długim, męczącym dniu. Pozdrowienia z Polski :-)

Heard this Band(this song) i believe around 1970-73 at the time i worked in small Motel in Luang Prabang Laos, an american tourist who stay in the motel gave us this album, could not remembered his name...love it since thanks to him who had open my eyes
Share your story and inspire us!
Luang Prabang, in the early seventie's must have been a very exotic place to visit. Interesting story...😁
I went there in 2010 on my bicycle, and it was quite a tough slog through the mountains.
Cudowne nagranie.
Brilliant group, one of the best from 'back in the day' really.
Whenever I hear this song it always makes me remind me of my young ages and everything I had done in the past. It impressed me greatly.

how interesting.

This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard, it portrays what I wanted to have in my life: friends. And I had very few.
I had very few along the way also because I'm not really naturally outgoing. but I do have the best friend you can have in Jesus Christ.

a tę decyzję musimy podjąć wyłącznie sami, gdyż mamy jedno życie...

This was the song that turned me into an Ash fan. 1973 was a fabulous year for me, found Ash along with other fabulous bands of the time. Also found my wife and still married. There is a video on UA-cam of this song which always brings me to tears. It shows people helping others, and welcoming friends and family back. If you have a chance see it. It is by Peerades Chanwattanakul- fabulous.
