These 'new' choppers in the doc you've watched are now obsolete (how fast time goes by) and have the role of being emergency standby aircraft in case the new ones are refueling or being upgraded or repaired. It's very scary how time flys by.

I have flown on these helicopters with a Air Ambulance outfit instead of the police outfit. These can haul s good deal of people. A Medic, RN and a pilot with a times if weight is safe can handle 2 patients. The crews from pilots to the crew loved them. At times a Medic or nurse looking into getting the added designation education to be qualified to be a flight ambulance crew member. Lovely handling and extremely powerful!
I live close too a major A road and a motorway so the helicopter is seem and heard occasionally, often late at night.They have a distinctive sound .Never bothers me as I know it's been called for a reason. They could be searching for a missing child or someone with dementia,as well as people up to no good. Which ever way you look at it ,the police are doing their best to keep us safe.
So glad the police brass have given a voice to field officers on what kind of new police helicopter to build. Let he end users have a direct say in what they are to work with. You get more out of your officers and other workers if they can work with equipment that multiplies their skills and work efficiency.

We do, but police only perform it if it's safe to do so. They try not to injure the criminals and care for their safety unlike violent police in countries like USA.
This is frustrating to watch. Why can't the police helicopters actively take action to halt the chase? Why can't they drop a net over the car that would entangle the wheels and stopped it? There must be at least 20 different viable active tactics that police helicopters could take to halt a life threatening police chase. How many cars were damaged; how many people will have to file insurance claims; how many lives were in danger? Police helicopters could do a lot more than simply track.

possible loss of concentration for a second or two, realised over corrected the steering then tried to counter the over steer, that caused the vehicle to swerve to opposite direction, possibly tried to correct the swerving, then each time the swerving gets bigger, the tyres then begin to heat up, the inertia of the car weaving about plus the weight of the car puts more strain on the tyres until eventually they lose traction, then the vehicle is out of control, it lurches over the carriageway, i should think the driver is panicking now and is applying the brakes heavily, this makes the situation worse and the car spins and strikes the central reservation barriers. tyres only have limited contact with the ground, too much is being asked of the tyres in most incidents like this, 1: the vehicle accelerating, this relies on traction and grip from the tyre. 2: the vehicle swerving also requires traction and grip from the tyre 3: Braking, that also requires the above functions of the tyre. so in essence the driver was asking for 3 jobs for the vehicle to perform, all of which in all 3 instances relied heavily on the tyres. Its no wonder the car crashed!! That's why racing drivers are trained to get all their braking done before cornering, less for the tyres to do and able to maintain control easier, then power out of the final part of the corner, all the time giving less for the tyre to do!
