I live near a frequently hit bridge. Frustrating that signs alone are clearly inadequate but nothing more is done very often.
Should have a bar at the same height 20m before, a height sensor or something. Going to the extreme you could have a projected stop sign on water sprinklers like some tunnels in Europe….

The other truck was already stopped otherwise they’d have had a smaller closing speed meaning less damage to the truck. They do follow to close but this seems to be distraction or perhaps a medical thing perhaps.

Drivers not slowing down at an accident scene drives me nuts!! I live in Alberta, Canada, and I used to be a volunteer fire fighter. We had the same problem. I think one of the many reasons, other than stupidity, is that when you are driving, it often feels like you are going really slow when you're not. People need to experience standing on a road and having cars drive past them. It's totally different, and I think a few more people might respect those having to stand outside after experiencing it themselves. Enjoying the show. 🇨🇦

      Same here!
How hard is it to just pay attention to the road and not someone's worst day?
I'm also in Alberta, Canada and the people here are absolute idiots when it comes to things like that.
I remember a couple years ago, a hay plant just off the highway went up in flames, which wasn't even the first time but so many people were rubber necking and even pulling over, that the RCMP started giving out tickets.
I was driving home, talking to my son through Bluetooth, and I heard tires squealing, a car in the next lane was paying more attention to the fire than the road, and almost slammed into the car in front of them because traffic was crawling at that point.
It's 100kms on that highway, and we were barely moving, so I'm amazed there wasn't an accident.
It was absolutely pathetic! There were so many cars pulled over on the shoulders, and so many more being driven at a snails pace, just because of a fire.
I'm glad the RCMP stepped in.
What was even better, was that early the next morning, I saw smoke so I got in my car to go see where it was coming from because I didn't hear sirens, and I was worried that someone's house was on fire and they didn't know it.
I found where it was coming from, which was a county truck in a locked compound, so I called 911.
By the time they put the fire out, 4 trucks were destroyed, and I was asked to stay to give a statement. I parked a safe distance away, but it struck me at the irony. Hundreds of people were fascinated by a fire in a building, yet no one was there when trucks were on fire, with explosions going off.
One truck with a couple people showed up but after being yelled at by a firefighter for repeatedly running over their hose to get a better viewpoint, they left.
So other than the emergency crews, I was the only one who witnessed it, and it was much more interesting than burning hay.

In Canada there are hundreds of thousands of miles of what would be equivalent to British A and M roads with no lighting. It is normal. In Ontario there is one major dual carriageway that runs from the border with the Province of Quebec at Cornwall 500 miles to the border with the US in Windsor. At a minimum there are 2 traffic lanes each way. Through the city of Toronto that can stretch to 16 live lanes in 4 carriageways. Except at interchanges and through some of the cities, the road is completely without illumination. Not even the overhead signs are lit. We manage just fine.

My house constantly had around 30 youths outside it firing air rifles at my windows, threatening to torch my house, smashing my car up. They were surprised that it was only for that weeks harassment they were thinking it was for over 6 months complaint. One week I had 22 pages, police crime numbers etc and that was 3 days worth. It got a lot worse after I bought my council home.I needed to last 3 years then was going to sell so I could buy another house in a nicer area. Sadly I only lasted a year then sold it but the useless council demanded I paid back several years worth of council discount and that was after they did nothing to help me and they did come and see me it was to have a go at my garden which had a sofa in waiting to be collected by them to go to the tip. But in an Artic you actually should be able to change the displayed height and it should be within view of the driver. This due to some trailers being taller than others or loads on flatbeds being variable heights.
Trailers usually have a height based on a set fifth wheel height printed on their headboard so the driver can check whilst coupling, but it's not hard to carry a tape measure to actually measure it once it's all coupled up. Hell, put one in the cab and leave it there so it's never forgotten.

Why dont the police have emergency flares in every car to place on the road at a crash site. To be standing on a pitch black road despite reflectors on jacket and torch is not enough. Government in the UK need to start looking hard at this issue

I suppose that, at least, the first knife was a Flick knife (also called "switchblades"), which are prohibited in the UK. Considering that he also has a criminal record, the knives may very well come to use to harm another human being and the place where he put them is kind of sketchy in itself

    • @lovelyjanuary

@@notkatja3113switchblades are also (surprisingly lol!) illegal in the US and I definitely agree that it was probably a little more indicative of possible malicious use of a knife under those circumstances with that particular driver because of his past record and current offenses. I just didn’t like it that the police officer wasn’t apparently worried that the driver might use the knife to go on the offensive and attack or threaten people with it, but rather “use it *to protect himself* “ 😐🙄

I remember during Trump's first term as president he commented about the level of knife crime in the UK. Simple answer Donald - we're not allowed guns here and knives - while illegal - are far easier to obtain or even make.

Instead of waiting for 1 helicopter who's got thermal. Why doesn't every car have a portable thermal imaging camera that's got a SIM & SD cards so it'll be live. So that way everyone can watch it on their phone's, car's, chopper's, HQ, etc. But if there's a bad signal, it's all backed up on the cameras SD card and when the signal comes back. It'll automatically upload to their servers so everyone can watch it live AND look back on the video to have a closer slowed down look to pick bit's out.
The militarys got them, so why don't the police put their feelers out to see who can actually make them and at what price? Too get the price down, NEVER say it's the police or anything along those lines because these companies will take the ₽!$$.
Obviously, it needs to be better and more robust than what the general public uses but also needs to be less hardcore than what the militarys uses because it's never going into a war zone.
I recon it'd cost around a £1500 and that's including the government over spending on pretty much ducking EVERYTHING! 😡 (Thank duck they've stop wasted OUR tax payers money on that STUPID HS2 🤷🏻‍♂️😪🤦🏻‍♂️
If the manufacturer is taking the piss n saying "it's going to be in the 1000 once it's finished and shipped out the door" then they can job on! 🤨

The helicopter's main advantage is being in the air so it keeps the target in sight if lost by the police car. Thermal imaging in the car (in lieu of the helicopter) would make very little difference. On the other hand, portable thermal imaging/night vision equipment for the police would help catch a fleeing suspect in the dark.

35 is a fail then you would be taken to the station as 35 is borderline, which makes no sense as by the time it was done at the station it would be under 35 so a pass, stupid waste of time but thats the way it is.

@@Diamondmine212 I don't believe you can realistically be that dogmatic about a zero limit, many medicines and product like mouth wash contain small amounts of ethanol, different forms (beer, spirits, etc) of alcohol metabolize at different rates and individual metabolic rates vary widely. Not totally sure, it was several years ago, but I recall reading that alcohol can also be a byproduct of human metabolism and think this was associated with either a disease or some genetic conditions so it's possible some people will never quite blow zero. Whether 35 is the right number as a measure of impairment is a totally different question.

    • @raysutton2310
      @raysutton2310 Рік тому

@@johndilloway9762 You have to draw the line somewhere and to make roadside equipment of evidentiary quality would be too expensive. There is also the, admittedly small, possibility that they would blow higher at the station, they could be passing 35 on their way to 70 depending on what they drank, how much, when, and their individual metabolism. The road side unit could also be under-reading. In some ways a functional test (like the US field sobriety tests) would be a better measure in that it is neutral to the cause of impairment but the US model is far to subjective and open to abuse for my liking.
