    😂man I mess my Clay work all up on tight fitting capes so yesterday I put one together and was dry fitting it…then I got to thinkin (dangerous I know) but I left the cape on and scrunched it all to the middle of the form, then I put antlers and eyes on with the Clay work…glued then brought the face of the hide back up the neck. Worked out better than any I’ve done. Made the eyes a little better having all my Clay there.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  8 місяців тому +1

      I have done that before if the cape was extremely tight after I smeared clay all over the form 😂

    Hey Mr. Williams. I appreciate you sharing your work with us. I have 2 capes in the freezer that I dont have the confidence to take to the next step, fleshing, pickling, and tanning. I am so afraid i am going to mess them up at this point. They have sat there for 2 years.😢. Did you have these concerns when you took the first plunge with a cape? I dont want to lose these capes because of a stupid mistake... any help pushing me over the hump would be appreciated. 😅

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  8 місяців тому

      Tanning a cape is no different than following a recipe. Just a list of instructions and as long as they are followed, everything will be fine. It needs to be done sooner than later also, because a 2 year old frozen cape is going to begin to show signs of freezer burn if it hasn’t already and the dry hide becomes increasingly difficult to flesh and turn. I’m going to post 2 video links that should get the capes through tanning safely

    Hello, I Have a Question. What Are Your Opinions On Straight Facing Mounts? A Shot a Nice Buck This Year and I Decided On a Full Upright Straight Mount. A Lot of People Don't Like Straight Mounts, But He Has a Double Throat Patch and I Thought That Might Look Good Too With Straight. Any Comments Welcome lol

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  7 місяців тому

      If that’s what you want, get it. I do a lot of them. In my opinion, the best looking one is Matt Thompson’s straight upright from McKenzie taxidermy supply

    How long does it take for the glue to dry?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  5 місяців тому

      It depends on the temperature and humidity. If the room is climate controlled with low humidity, about a week. With too much humidity it can take much longer and will cause mold to grow. I allow an extra week or so before epoxy work so that the hide has time to fully dry to prevent pulling away from any finish work.

    Do you ever use pins around the eyes, tear ducts, mouth, or brisket? I saw one of your videos awhile back I thought you said you rely on the clay to hold the skin. More so curious about the brisket area? Also I noticed when you stapled it you weren't pulling the hide tight, is there a reason for that and also would there be a time that you would pull it tight then staple?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  6 місяців тому

      I just bought a brad pusher I’m going to experiment with. If you pull the hide too tightly it will drum as it dries rather than stay glued to the details in the form

    • @dereksunday3883
      @dereksunday3883 6 місяців тому

      @@thecedarridgechronicles that's what i was figuring. have you had any issues without using any pins anywhere?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  6 місяців тому

      @dereksunday3883 no but it does require daily attention until the glue sets. I’m going to try and do away with some of that

    • @dereksunday3883
      @dereksunday3883 6 місяців тому

      @@thecedarridgechronicles Different subject but I was watching a Matuska video, and Tom said that after you tan a hide it isn't as safe as it was before in the pickel and you have limited working time again. Do you happen to know why or what he's talking about? To me it seems it'd either dry on it's own or on a form being mounted.

I had some really unfortunate circumstances that happened at my job a couple days ago and I’m just trying to make the leap and try my own taxidermy shop.
