    Having done taxidermy as a hobby on and off for years, I can surely appreciate the care given and the time spent. Can also feel the frustration at times as well... excellent work sir

    How much do you charge for repairs like that. I charged $50 per hour, but that was years ago.

      Honestly nothing, but I definitely would if UA-cam wasn't a source of income. The repairs make great videos so I'm already getting paid for them really from now on

    hey bud i'm a taxidermist also and i have a friend taxidermist that fleshes facing the machine kinda backwards form everyone else since you have never used one so this might be a way to get around that motor problem

  • @johnholt5870
    @johnholt5870 Рік тому

    Just make sure with the fleshing machine you let the hides drain good I take them out and let drain at least 4 hours then flesh and only have the guard set about 1/16 of an inch to start and adjust because you can jack a cape up quick if that thing gets into it

  • @johnholt5870
    @johnholt5870 Рік тому

    Also fleshing raw capes before salting or pickling with that machine you never seen a cape so clean and so much easier than with a knife and beam

  • @dalechristain1136
    @dalechristain1136 Рік тому

    I built a fleshing machine when I first started years ago I used it from the front not the way you see everyone doing it now but it worked just fine might want to try it like that being the way it’s made

    I was at work struggling during the superbowl. I hate it. I'm a dishwasher at pizzahut, and you get slammed on the superbowl. I don't like football or sports really, so I don't watch it, but I mainly hate it because of how overwelming it gets at work.

      I know the pain. I ran a meat department at piggly wiggly for 20 years. We got destroyed every weekend, holiday, football game, etc. Basically when everyone was celebrating we were suffering lol

    So I'm getting into taxidermy, and I was wondering if i should get a hand held fleshing tool or just use a scalpel like you did. Love the content, keep up the great work.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  9 місяців тому

      Hand held fleshers definitely are convenient, but I would also get a scalpel to turn the eyes, ears, lips, and nostrils

    That's like finding a rusted out old car and doing all the body work to get it to look like an awesome car again. Like you said it, " if it doesn't look right, you can do it over again". Love your channel and videos. Take care and be safe.

    Thankyou Daniel for sharing the challenging project, we as taxidermists can get some crazy tough stuff to works with, nice to watch someone else tackle a mess. Have you ever changed a ear on a deer? I have 2 capes that I can piece together and make 1 good one, just need to change an ear? thoughts??

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому

      I haven't, but I would cut it off along the "y" incision and use that existing cut as part of the repair

    How long does it take your mounts to dry and how long do you bag your mounts ? Thanks

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому

      They take between 1-2 weeks to dry usually. I'll bag them for about 3 days on average or until the glue begins to hold the cape down to the face

    Watch most of your videos I enjoy watching you work. Lol. Thanks for taking the time to make them . Does a thicker skin make the mount look less professional? Good luck with fleshing machine looking forward to seeing that. Things I have seen with them is its easy to go to thin. But can't wait to watch you use it.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому

      It makes a huge difference in the quality and detail the thinner it is. I used it today and filmed myself. Video will be up in a few days if everything goes ok.
