    I have never mounted anything. I’m watching your videos as I’m currently trying taxidermy for the first time. I feel like I’ve been doing it for years because your a really good teacher. Very easy to understand the what,why, how. Thank you for the confidence.

    Your videos are the most informative out of any videos I have watched. I am currently getting into taxidermy myself and your videos have been super helpful. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing. We need more of this in todays world.

    Steve S. Great videos. I’ve seen a lot of other card and staple the ears till they dry to prevent drumming, is that necessary? What do you do to prevent drumming?

      I use Pro 1 hide paste and don't card the ears at all. I will bag them along with the head for several days until the glue sets and check them daily to make sure they have good adhesion. I wouldn't recommend this with any other hide paste. Ears done with other thinner glues definitely will need to be clamped.

    Do you send the cape out to be tanned or do it yourself?

    So Daniel once your done with the building up of the ears with clay does the clay on the ear butts get hard and stick to the form from the hide paste? I was asking because some of the other taxidermy videos I’ve seen they use ear liners and butts that attach to each other and they put a screw into the butt to the form.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  6 місяців тому

      Yes and once the hide dries you would have to saw the ear off to get it to move

    Can you give an instruction on how to measure for the ear liner size and what they are talking about at McKenzie because there are about 3 different sizes just for whitetail!! Or does it really not matter much?!?!

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому

      The best thing to do is buy and keep all 3 sizes on hand and dry fit them. Most of the time, a medium will work.

    Have you ever cut the muzzle and added foam or clay to make the muzzle longer?
    i have a 243 lb dressed out deer and my measurement was 8”+ eye to nose.
    thanks for any advice.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому

      Not yet, but it would probably be easiest to do back behind the mouth and cut carving foam to make an extension. Then ad dowels and hide paste to reinforce it till it dries. Afterwards I would use epoxy to smooth the edges and help bond it all together

    hello! I just acquired a mule deer mount that I want to hang up but his ears are kind of splitting at the tips. I'd like to try to repair it but I don't want to ruin it either. So I was wondering what you'd recommend I do. Would super glue be okay?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  7 місяців тому

      Yes it will be fine to try. I’m not sure it will hold depending on the size of the split but I would try gorilla glue gel and then clamp it for 24 hours and let it cure.

    can you use pottery clay or is it the same as moldering clay

  • @RTF1978

    Gotcha
    And then the remaining ear butts that are cartilage just dries up and gets hard
    Thanks

    Do you have any good recommendation for freezer burnt deer ears

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Рік тому +1

      They are horrible to deal with for sure. The only thing I have found that helps is to soak them but not the entire cape in a small bowl of salt water until they rehydrate. This helps a lot but you still have to be slow about turning them because they do get brittle

    With all due respect sir, out of curiosity what enjoyment do people get out of hunting deer? Killing an animal for the fun of it is kinda sick man. 😔

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  10 місяців тому +4

      It is way more rewarding harvesting an animal myself for food than relying on someone else to kill it for me. I don't know that many hunters get joy from taking a life, but the experience in the outdoors frees your soul and mind. To eat an animal, it has to give it's life, and if you can only rely on others to take that life, try not to be too judgemental on what that experience feels like. I do appreciate you not being hateful and just asking. I have gotten way worse from the anti hunting community 👍
