Recreating a Blues with Silver Alcohol Ink Swirl Tumbler

  • About a year ago, I made an alcohol ink swirl tumbler with the white alcohol ink mixed into the resin that's underneath all the other colors dropped onto the cup. This was an idea first pitched by ‪@ThePurpleStitch‬ in a live she did (that I can no longer find), and I love the look of these swirl tumblers! Here's the one I made a year ago: • Alcohol Ink Swirl Tumb... How do you think I did in recreating it for a customer? I REALLY need to hold back on the silver!!!

    I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
    Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

    I don't know if this would help with the breaking up of the silver however it works for me when I se it - adding the pearl alcohol ink from piñata. Try that on a small project to see if that works for you. otherwise, this cup turned to amazing!!

    Your editing and your cuts on the talking are great, the end outcome of the tumbler is beautiful as well! If I could suggest one thing, it would be to either do a voice over of what you are doing during the time-lapse...or...add some music overlay...or...a mix of both👍 Oh, and I subbed because again that toombler turned out amazing and I love the idea of the white in the initial epooxy layer because doing the white drips on top of the epoxy tend to react differently or dry quicker than the other colors.

      Thanks!! I’m experimenting with music on my other channel, but since I usually hit mute when music comes on other folks’ videos, I really wanted to avoid using it myself… just personal preference. Having said that, I broke my own rule in this coming Sunday’s video. 🤣 🎶🎼🎵
      And I’m awful, *seriously* awful at voice overs (so far). Anyway, thank you - I appreciate the suggestions!!

    So lovely, again! I like watching your video's, it made me buy a cupturner aswell ^^
    I wonder, if you don't mind me asking, how long do the colours stay bright? Cause I see you are working with alcohol inkt and in my experience they fade/ lose colour quite fast. Do you add something extra to prevent that ( uv blokker or abything else?)
    And do you use low viscosity or medium/high viscosity resin?
    Thx in advance👋🏻!

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you!! Great question! I’ve heard other folks say that about alcohol inks fading. I haven’t noticed it, but at the same time, I haven’t necessarily taken cups I made a year ago and remade them to see if there’s a noticeable difference. 🤔 Hmmmm, maybe I should do that!!
      Ever since KS Resin came out with the Ultra UV version of all their different resins, I have been using that because it holds up really well against yellowing and fading in other peoples’ tests. I would say KS Resin in general (both the Art and the Liquid Stone) is a medium viscosity resin.

    Do I have spray paint cup or can leave it silvere the stainless steel cup

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 роки тому

      You don’t have to spray paint - it’s not a requirement. A lot of people do just to add a base layer of some color or because they don’t like the stainless showing at all. So if you definitely don’t want the stainless showing through anywhere, then spray paint would be a good idea.

  • @carolhanson3893
    @carolhanson3893 2 роки тому +1

    I love it! I have an idea, may work, may not. I will be trying it though,lol. What if you added the silver to a small amount of resin and added it by drops randomly rather than the huge drops that come out of the bottle? You could add more drops of silver for the smaller swirls all over. Has me thinking....

    I am starting to make tumblers and everytime I do the epoxy I get a huge like bubble at the rim of cup y is that?

    • @gailgorenflo3501
      @gailgorenflo3501 2 роки тому +1

      It sounds like your cup is not level on your turner and the epoxy is settling at the rim. Your cup/tumbler needs to be level on the turner (and the surface the turner is on also needs to be level) or this will happen.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 роки тому

      I agree with what Gail said. Make sure your work table is level, then once you have the cup on the turner, put a level-measuring tool (like this one amzn.to/32PtpYd) against the end of the tumbler, and that makes sure your tumbler is also level on the turner, so the resin will stay even over the whole thing.

      Hi, I honestly don’t know. I’m not at all familiar with Brite Tone or any of the Crystalac products. One former resin tumbler maker sold me her alcohol inks because she said she couldn’t use them anymore since she was switching from resin to Crystalac, but that’s just one person. Your best bet is to join a Crystalac Facebook group and find out from the folks there who use the products a lot. I’m sorry I can’t be more help!

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Honestly, I haven't bothered doing much cleaning with this turner yet. I would think pretty much anything would come off with acetone, but it could also remove the pink finish, so I'd do a small test area first. If what has dropped onto the turner isn't affecting its performance, I would probably not worry about it and cover the bottom of the turner with a silicone mat or some freezer paper going forward to prevent any further stuff from getting on it.
