I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.

So other than my poor choice of adhesive vinyl (or my lack of adding an offset), I’m pretty happy with how this turned out! 🌈🤩 Thank goodness alcohol ink cleans up easily!

Thank you! Oh, absolutely!! You can also use mica powder mixed in alcohol to airbrush - looks very cool, especially with color-shifting micas airbrushed on black.

Here's an idea for you - I just built a turner that has the arm mounted vertically, with a 15X speed motor on it. I use it for spray painting and sealing tumblers. It would be perfect for a job like this one. I like that cordless airbrush. So I just bought one on AliExpress for $30 with free shipping.
I'm going to assume that you've always been an artist, probably in multiple media, before you got into tumblers. You seem to genuinely enjoy it, and you're impressively good at it. You remind me a lot of my aunt. She's a Sagittarius.
What's really funny to me is these snowflakes who complain about wasting one penny's worth of ink, but don't even think of the plastic resin (in some resin arts, it can be a few hundred milliliters) that will inevitably end up in landfills or left on a beach or roadside. I don't acknowledge the keyboard warriors.

Oh goodness! That turned out amazing! LOL, I had no idea an airbrush gun would be so easy to use until I saw your video and now have it in my cart LOL. This would be so helpful on days when I can't be outside to spray paint a cup because of the weather. I've never had much luck with printable vinyl :( My Cameo cuts either way outside the offset or too much of the graphic; just wasted $10 pack of printable vinyl trying to get designs to cut :(

Thank you!! Not a stupid question at all! No I didn’t sand because I didn’t want any scuffing to show through, but I did wipe it down thoroughly with 91% isopropyl alcohol first to remove any dirt and oils.

Thank you!! Yes, I did use full strength in this video, although I have since experimented with diluting the alcohol inks (especially very pigmented ones like Woodies Goodies) with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and it looks the same on the tumbler and makes the inks last longer.

Actually, I did not seal them at all. I let the whole cup dry overnight, so the alcohol ink had plenty of time to set up. But I figured that even if there was a bit of blending between the ink colors when I was applying the resin, it would actually help the whole rainbow effect. So I decided to just go to resin without spraying on a sealer first. Very unusual for me!

Thank you!! I didn’t use any sealer on the alcohol ink at all (pretty shocking for me!). The only sealing I did was UV resin over the vinyl before applying the final layer of epoxy resin.

Surprisingly, I didn't! It's surprising because I tend to seal everything just to be on the safe side, but I let the cup sit almost 24 hours from when I airbrushed on the alcohol inks to when I applied the epoxy resin, so I figured the inks had probably set and wouldn't bleed.

Did you have to dilute the inks with alcohol? My airbrush says to dilute medium until thin (acrylic paint:water 1:2) but alcohol ink is thin. Also, do you just deep clean at the end with 91% alcohol? (I know in video you said you did between colors) just wanting the prettiest outcomes and keep my tools in best shape
Great questions! I do not dilute alcohol ink, although you could if you wanted to make them go farther. But as you say, they’re not at all thick. I blow clear alcohol through after each color, but then after I’m finished, I disassemble the airbrush and soak everything in clear alcohol until there’s no more hint of color. Then let dry and reassemble. Hope that helps!

Are those puppy pads?
Yes! I find lots of uses for them in crafting with alcohol inks and paints, plus I already had the pads around the house for puppies. 😊

Can I use glitters in my airbrush ??
Great question! It might be possible if you use a super-ultra-fine glitter in solution and have a larger size airbrush needle that is less likely to clog from any sort of particle, like a 0.5mm instead of the more common 0.3mm. The tumbler in this video was airbrushed just with alcohol inks then the glitter added later. I've never actually tried to add glitter into the ink before airbrushing. But there are different sizes of needles to allow for different airbrushing solutions that might work. Obviously you'd need to do some testing.
