    The reason it mattered why the animal offerings had no defects, is because the verses were written by the priests, and the priests ate the animal offerings. It was free food for the priests, and they wanted to make sure it was edible and not rotten.

    You know what's interesting about the blindness thing? From my perspective, anyway, and I'm 90% blind. It's LITERALLY baked into the language that sight equals wisdom. I don't know about Semitic languages like Hebrew, but on the Indo-European branch, in Sanskrit, the word for "wisdom" is "vidya" (VID-ee-a, like that), and in Latin, the word for "to see" is "video" (vid-AY-oh, like that).The two words are linked to one another linguistically, and of course, that's where English gets the word "vision". I'd never have been allowed into the Temple as a Jew, and I never could have reached Enlightenment in any of the formal Eastern systems, because a lack of LITERAL sight equals a lack of figurative "sight". I won' die on the "I see what you mean" hill, because that's just common parlance, and whatever, but I WILL die on the "I was blind but now I see" hill. F*ck off with that equation. And it's mostly reinforced by religion, eh, which then got baked into society. You can't escape this shit without THINKING about it critically. So thin. I encourage people to think, just like you do, Hemant.

      Jews don't allow blind people into the Temple to this day?? Ancient books are one thing, but today, in the 21st century, not allowing people to worship becausr of a disability? That's... I have no words.

      This reminds me of the Byzantine mutilations. Since the Emperor was seen as God's counterpart on Earth, he was supposed to be physically perfect. This had the consequence that pretenders would mutilate their rivals to make them ineligible for the purple (castration and/or blinding were the most common forms of this). Now I know where this comes from.

      Absolutely. Authoritarian leaders have used the same repetitive tactic to brainwash people. Without Biblical gaslighting not many would have been manipulated into the abuses of Christianity. Christianity sows seeds of doubt making people question everything in their lives, even their sanity. The world’s most despicable and deadly leaders have used the same types of gaslighting used by Christians.
      Christianity has rationalized almost every evil. Large numbers of Christians have moralized and spiritualized xenophobia, sexism, abuse, racism, bigotry, hatred, violence, corruption, and dishonesty to the point christians believe these depravities are good and holy things. Christian gaslighting is so insidious because it disguises itself as faith.
      When I ask christians why don’t they feel compassion or empathy for all the people their god killed in the Bible they respond by saying “they all deserved it!” And these same people say their god is a ‘god of love’. Christians also say they’re ‘prolife’ but they are okay with their god murdering children, toddlers, babies and pregnant women (which also terminates pregnancies). There’s no such thing as a prolife Christian.
      I’ve known several people who have been severely damaged by Christianity. A dear friend was so harmed by Christianity she attempted suicide by slashing her wrists. Her name is Marsha and you may have read the story I wrote about her. Christianity almost killed her. I saved her life. I often wonder how many people are so psychologically damaged by Christianity they succeed at ending their lives.

      This is why the Hebrews were desperate for a Monarch. They hoped that a King would be less controlling and greedy than the Levite Priests with their 600 plus laws, most payable by a sin offering of some livestock, which got eaten by the fat, greasy bearded priest and his family of arseholes.

It's called threatening your children to prevent them from acting against them, while also making everyone else think "oh things are really hard for the priests" when in reality nothing will happen if they break these rules, they will just use them as excuses for being as demanding as they are. After all if people think their lives are so hard, they won't notice that all of the sacrifices are going directly to the priests, while they see no return at all.
      Of course, I know you're a troll, but just pointing out how stupid you are.

    Despite the many rules and threats of death, it looks like the priests had it pretty good. They didn't do heavy labor. They had people bringing them the best of their animals and crops, of which they were able to eat a portion. Free Uber eats.

    Yeah, that's why a schism in the church happened to oppose the translation of the bible from Latin into the native language of each country. a little known schism known as the protestant reformation. It is only because of this, and the printing press that the public would ever know what was in the bible in the first place.

    I had forgotten just how much ink is wasted in the Bible. With almost every paragraph signed off with; "So sayeth the Lord", "Thy Lord god has spoken", "I am the Lord Thy god", "I am the Lord Thy god and I command this", "Hello it's me, god. Am I there?", "This is god signing off from the Nostromo...", "Frankly my god, I don't give a damn", "Auntie Em, Auntie Em. There's no place like Heaven...".

And as for the priestly and rabbinic authors of this smut, they surely highlight their staggering insecurities that their "yahweh god" ruse will not be believed by their controlled fearful masses. That the man behind the curtain will be suspected or exposed as being just that, a man.     I found this series recently and binged everything from Genesis up to now. I have also been highlighting bible verses as we go along as well as taking notes. It makes sense why I never learned most of this growing up!

    I found this series one week ago and I’m loving it. I’m almost caught up which is upsetting. I’m really looking forward to you reading Deuteronomy and Numbers which are the worst books in the bible. I can’t wait to hear your comments about all the insane chapters in there. I absolutely love this and hope you keep it up until Revelations. I will be with you here for however many years that will take you to finish the bible.

      @@halebopp4747 Because the book is full of nonsense and contradictions all over the place. If people could have read it themselves most would have saw it for the bullshit that it really is! Nowadays, most times a christian sits down and actually reads more of the book than the few specific passages they like or are familiar with, they become atheists, or begin to have serious doubts about their beliefs. Even priests and preachers only read certain passages. If they started to actually read the book cover to cover in churches, before long you would likely see people walking out the door.

    Way back ye-haw, though, the priestly class, or, in India's case, caste, was the highest in society. It's one of the reasons why the Jains and Buddhists split off from the main body of Hinduism: they rejected the cate system to say that everyone had an equal shot at Moksha...so long as they were an able-bodied male. Sigh.

    This chapter tells me that sinners were getting clever and sneaky, and sinning the number of times that they had defective livestock on hand that they didn't mind giving up. So the authors needed a workaround for the clever sinners' workaround.

    Leviticus 22:10; David actually breaks this commandment and then Jesus said it was okay. The Holy son of God contradicts his daddy

      Andrew, a LOT of times. And yet, he said every jot and tittle of the law must be obeyed until his return! Of course, he thought that would be in 25 to 30 years. It was Paul would changed everything, to lure non jews into his new cult, I mean religion. Except, of course, slavery and all that. As for women not teaching and worse, even christian scholars accept that was not from Paul, as he spoke of Theckla and Junia and other women as great preacher, disciples. So, our modern Bible added more bad, lol. In around 4th, 5th century. I think George Carlin had it right, sanctity of life, and death penalty? We made it all up, aren't we versatile? 🥰✌

    These commandments were for the Dispensation of Torah, we are now in the Dispensation of Grace. However, Torah still remains valuable for us today. It is our blueprint for living. The closer we follow Torah the better our lives will go. The more we disobey Torah, the worse our lives will go. Neither Torah (the first five Books of Moses), nor the TaNaKh (the rest of the Old Testament) have anything to do with salvation. Salvation has always been by faith. It continues to be, our blueprint for living.

      ~~Numbers 31:17 (Moses) “Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.” In other words: women that might be pregnant, which clearly is abortion for the fetus.
      ~~Hosea 13:16 God promises to dash to pieces the infants of Samaria and the “their women with child shall be ripped up”. Once again this god kills the unborn, including their pregnant mothers.
      ~~2 Kings 15:16 God allows the pregnant women of Tappuah (aka Tiphsah) to be “ripped open”. And the Christians have the audacity to say god is pro-life. How and the hell is it that Christians can read passages where God allows pregnant women to be murdered, yet still claim abortion is wrong? INFANTCIDE: ~~1 Samuel 15:3 God commands the death of helpless “suckling” infants. This literally means that the children god killed were still nursing. ~~Psalms 135:8 & 136:10 Here God is praised for slaughtering little babies. ~~Psalms 137:9 Here god commands that infants should be “dashed upon the rocks''. ~~Ezekiel 20:26 God is declaring " I defiled them through their gifts-the sacrifice of every firstborn-that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the Lord".

      ~~Exodus 20:9-10 God commands death for cursing out one's parents Joshua 8 God commanded the deaths of 12,000 men, women, and children of Ai. They were all slain in the ambush that was planned by god.
      ~~2 Kings 2:23-24 The prophet Elisha, was being picked on by some young boys from the city because of his bald head. The prophet turned around and cursed them in the Lord's name. Then, two female bears came out of the woods and killed forty-two of them. You would think that God could understand that sometimes the youthful make childish jokes. Calling someone “bald head” is far from being worthy of death. ~~Leviticus 26:30 “And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.”
      ~~1 Samuel 15:11-18 God repents of having made Saul king since Saul refused to carry out God’s commandments (i.e., Saul refused to murder all the innocent women and children.) At least god realizes what an immoral, murderous pig he is on this one. ~~I Kings 16:34 Laying the foundation for a city using your firstborn child and using your youngest son to set up the gates.
      ~~Isaiah 13:15-18 If God can find you, he will “thrust you through,” smash your children “to pieces” before your eyes, and rape your wife.
      ~~Jeremiah 11:22-23 God will kill the young men in war and starve their children to death.
      ~~Jeremiah 19:7-9 God will make parents eat their own children, and friends eat each other.
      ~~Ezekeil 20: 24-26 Because they had not obeyed my laws but had rejected my decrees and desecrated my Sabbaths, and their eyes lusted after their parents’ idols. 25 So I gave them other statutes that were not good and laws through which they could not live; 26 I defiled them through their gifts-the sacrifice of every firstborn-that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the Lord.’
      ~~Lamentations 2:20-22 God gets angry and mercilessly torments and kills everyone, young and old. He even causes women to eat their children.

      That's the conclusion I came to when I read most of the OT. Equally the Sabbath probably came about because the elites realised that you can't get blood out of a stone forever, that you need to give the low paid workers a day off once a week so that they could go to church, temple, whatever, and re-charge their batteries.
